Film Opening Title Sequence Proposal
Film Genre (type of film and
your reasons for choosing this
genre?)
I have selected the horror film genre as my type of film. The
reasons I have chosen this is because I enjoy watching the horror
genre and know that you can get so many different genre
conventions in the opening title sequence to show my target
audience straight away what type of film this will be.
Synopsis of Idea (visual content
– style, use of colour, settings,
props, costumes, lighting etc)
The main setting of my film will take place in the woods; because
of this my opening title sequence will be the main location so that
the audience understand this. It will be low key lighting as it is
based at night time in most of the shots. I will use colours such as
red and black- using colour symbolism for death, blood and
danger. There will be typical genre props and costumes such as
masks, fake blood and a knife. In the opening sequence I aim to let
the audience know what genre it will be and what it will be about
before the film begins.
Target Audience?
(demographic NOT age range)
My target audience will aimed at teens (15+) but may appeal to
the older generation such as their parents or guardians. With
them mainly being students they will be on a low income and still
be living at home. With this being an English film their ethnicity
will be white/British.
How will your project meet the
needs of your target audience?
By research I will be able to find out what types of horrors people
like best Slasher, Thriller/Action, Psychological horror/Suspense,
Paranormal horror, Torture horror, Monster. With finding this out
I can then work out what types of characters, props and settings
will work out best to make my opening title sequence successful.
What will you film opening
title credits look like? (How will
they appear on screen? Where
will they be positioned? How
will they animate? What style
of font/typography?)
The text of characters, producers etc will be faded on the screen as
the opening sequence goes on, fading in and out in white plain
writing so it doesn’t stand out to much to take the effect off the
title sequence. They will be posted either left, centre or right on
the screen, explaining the persons full name and what they have
done e.g. Nicole Melia Director.
It will be a plain font such as Calibri (Body) Italic or Times New
Roman. So that the font is clear for everyone to read and
understand but doesn’t stand out to much.
