3 What Is Coaching
Defining coaching is not a straightforward exercise. For the purposes of this review we have
identified the main definitions to offer an overview of coaching theory, models and practice most
pertinent to the manufacturing industry. The term coaching comes from an old Anglo–Saxon word
meaning carriage, in other words, something that takes you from where you are now to where you
want to be. Kennedy (Kennedy, 2009) lists the following definitions
The art of facilitating the performance, learning and development of another
Unlocking a person's potential to maximize their own performance
Closing the gap between thinking about doing and doing
Coaching is about performing at your best through the individual and private assistance of someone
who will challenge, stimulate and guide you to keep growing.
Coaching is about getting results and helping clients understand their way of generating problems.
Coaching assists a client in defining what they want, removing obstacles, setting goals, and striving
for balance and fulfilment.
Coaching is recognised as an effective organisational development tool which has solid foundations
in psychology, philosophy and education and derives many of its principles and practices

Teaching And Coaching As A Philosophy
A philosophy can be defined as 'a set of values and behaviours that serve to guide the actions of a
coach' (Wilcox and Trudel, 1998, p.41). By drawing from all facets of a person's life, each is specific
to the learner and distinguishes teachers and coaches from one another. It can be consciously
developed as the professional, teacher/coach and student within education is exposed to a practice as
well as other life experiences. It is believed that 'clearly articulating one's philosophy is a
prerequisite to good practice' (Cassidy et al, 2008, p.55) throughout this essay I hope to reflect on
my increasing knowledge foundation in teaching and coaching and how it has successfully
developed and been applied to my philosophy as a coach.

However, I disagree, as a coach I believe you must have specific sport knowledge to the sport in
context but knowledge from a wider base to fully engage in successful practice of techniques which
accompany a successful end result as well as being able to develop the athlete on a wider basis. This
is supported by 'the fact coaches work with fewer people and at a higher skill level does not negate
the fact that they are engaged in teaching...skills, techniques and strategies'( Drewe, 2000, p.81) this
coupled with the fact coaches tend to spend more time with athletes which means they too, also
develop the fundamental domains of the athlete. For this reason I believe both roles are intertwined
and provide basis for both to thrive from. In order to for me to be an affective coach I must take both
concepts and make sure that I develop the child's ability as well as other factors.
A way I have developed as a coach is by exploring philosophies of coaching and in particular three
core philosophical concepts, values (axiology), morality (ethics), and meaning (ontology). Values
(axiology) can be split into two sources, which include value in both sport and coaching and more
distinctly subjective and objective values. This is determined by whether a person is intrinsically or
extrinsically motivated. Subjective values

Christian Life Coaching Analysis
I like how Dr. Gary Collins, in his book "Christian Coaching: Helping Others Turn Potential into
Reality" (Collins, 2002), calls attention to the 1500's description of the word coach as a horse–drawn
vehicle that was used to get you to where you wanted to go. You can use that definition as one way
to define the word coach in the coaching terms. In the presentation "Coaching: The new helping
relationship", Dr. Catherine Hart Weber defines coaching as an ongoing intimate transparent
relationship for those making important changes in life. The big difference between coaching and all
the of the others, is that as a coach you aren't solving there problems or helping them heal from the
past, you are the motivation to think further into next steps of what they want to accomplish. This
can by in many different aspects of the clients life. I would say that counseling, mentoring, and
discipleship are all about relationship, but coaching, even though there is a relationship, it is results

The biblical worldview that a Christian coach should have would change the way they would
approach a situation. It is no longer just about results or being the best you, a Christian coach should
add in the biblical promises that scripture offers about those who believe in Jesus. I love that in the
presentation "Christian Coaching: Scriptural and Spiritual Foundations," the say that all coaching
should be be rooted in scripture. That way no matter what happens years from then the client can
come back to the promise found in scripture and relive the moment. Christian Coaching is based on
the fact that us as Christians have a purpose and a giftedness that God has blessed us with. As we
coach it should be our goal to make sure our clients understand this and begin their journey to really
figuring out what their kingdom impact is going to

ADHD – Life Coaching For Parents And Teens
https://www.pexels.com/photo/adult–anger–art–black–background–356147/
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition where an
individual shows extreme impulsivity, has difficulty sustaining attention and is overly active, to an
extent that he/she might find it difficult to sit at one place for more than a minute. It is a disorder
with a recognized and persistent behavioral pattern that normally shows up during childhood.
ADHD is stressful both for the sufferer and his/her parents, who often struggle with the restless
behavior of kids. They might misjudge the child to be naughty or stubborn and rely on medications
for help. However, medications and other treatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The techniques are mostly individualized and may not be the same for all. Some of the commonly
used ADHD coaching methods are –
Behavioral Orientation – Which involves training to correctly monitor behavior and bring the
desirable changes in behavior. Several techniques like positive reinforcement, or time–out can be
used by coaches. Parents and child need to work together and build up certain ways and strategies
that help the child learn the suitable and acceptable behavioral patterns.
Life Skills Improvement – ADHD children are helped out to open up their feelings and share their
difficulties freely. The coach trains them to develop daily self–help habits that can aid in improving
focus and attention. This also helps them in learning how to take correct decisions in life and
working through disruptive behaviors.
Attention Games – To increase focus and improve attention span of the ADHD children, different
attention exercises are used by life coaches. For example, simple games like "freeze time" or
"statue" can help a lot when dealing with kids as they are fun and engaging. Another very common
technique is the "clap" method where the child has to clap at the same time as the coach

Life Coaching History Essay
The History of Life Coaching and Why You Should Care
Life coaching does not have a precise date marking its beginnings since humans developed the
innate ability to gain knowledge and enlightenment back at the beginning of civilization. However,
the theoretical origins of life coaching can be traced to a number of disciplines including business
management, sports psychology and targeted individual development techniques such as primal
therapy and sensitivity training. The idea took off as recent as the 90's with the entrenchment of
social imagination as one of the core values defining the science and art of coaching. This
development is attributed to the advances made in the 70's and 80's, when this form of coaching
took the self help and business dimension.
The term life coaching is currently unregulated; this means people can use the term at their
discretion. However, there have been attempts by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council
and the International Coach Federation to come up with an operative code of conduct. The standards
are designed to set principles that players in the industry will need to abide by as life coaches.
Coaching in the new age is about providing a framework that ... Show more content on

The transmitter generation took over by popularizing and broadening the ideas sought from the
originator generation. The third generation shaped the idea into a distinct profession. To appreciate
all this, it is important to understand that humans are incredibly complex creatures with ability to
experience different desires, temptations, insecurities, fears and impulses. With all these varied
emotions, what matters is learning how to control raw emotions and reactions. In most cases, swings
are controlled and evoked in equal measure by what we learn from others and the basic moral

Some of the research findings are listed below: Adults will commit to learning when they believe
that the objectives are realistic and important for their personal and professional needs. Adults desire
to be the origin of their own learning and should have some control over the what, who, how, why,
when, and where of their learning. Coaching and other kinds of follow up support are needed
because adult learners do not automatically transfer learning into daily practice. Adults need
feedback on the results of their efforts. Adults need direct, concrete experiences for applying what
they have learned to their work. Adult learners come to the learning process with self direction and a
wide range of previous experiences. Employment for the purpose of coaching on a one to one basis
responds to each of these characteristics of adult learners whether they lead schools or private
businesses. The authors further discuss what coaching isn't. In order to understand the concept of
coaching it is necessary to know what coaching is not, and to review some of the practices that are
infrequently confused with it. Coaching is not training. Coaching is centered on context and design
to respond to the needs of the individual learner. Coaching is not mentoring although effective
mentors use coaching skills and strategies.

Executive Coaching And Consultant: Case Study
Executive Coaching and Consultant
According to Sperry (2013), "leadership assessment is a necessary ingredient in effective executive
coaching and consulting" (Sperry, 2013). A good leader makes the difference in coaching or
consulting because a good leader recognizes their actions can greatly affect the life of another
whether one person or many. For example, if you are a coach your client is more likely to be an
individual and you coach them on a one–on–one basis. Coaching uses many of the skills trained
therapist already possess, this can be of value in coaching clients (Smith, 2007). In contrast, a
consultant can easily deal with a group, team, or a department within an organization. However,
therapists are held to a higher standard and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both agencies can be of tremendous value to a consultant because the consultant is problem–focused
while the coach builds on client's strengths (Smith, 2007). In addition, consultants gather data and
sometimes conduct research to report on what needs to be done, but a coach will facilitate growth to
obtain desire results. Ethics and Laws are equally important in any profession, but the idea is if the
ethics code is applicable to a situation and deem to be the higher standard versus the law then use
the ethical standard. If not, and the law is the higher standard in an ethical dilemma then obey the
law, you can't go wrong. However, if the Ethics Code standard appears to conflict with the
requirements of law, then psychologists should have a written record of their ethical stance, but not
break the law and move forward to resolve the conflict to the best of their ability. The ICF states,
"individuals or organizations retain consultants for their expertise. While consulting approaches vary
widely, the assumption is the consultant will diagnose problems and prescribe and, sometimes,
implement solutions. With coaching, the assumption is that individuals or teams can generate their
own solutions, with the coach supplying supportive, discovery–based approaches and frameworks"

Although I am often referred to as a life coach, I believe perspective coach better describes what I
offer my clients.
I like the word perspective because it means a particular attitude toward something; a point of view.
A life coach is traditionally characterized as someone who counsels and encourages clients on
matters having to do with career or personal challenges; counseling often defined as a form of
advice.
Although timely advice can be useful, many of us already have a number of well–meaning people
lined up in our lives who are more than eager to dispense their vault of wisdom about the right way
for us to live a happy and successful life.
But if it were really as simple as just getting the right advice, then why would we struggle ... Show

So why do we struggle to change?

Each of has a very unique perspective of the world we see. Some of us see the macro while others
focus more on the micro. Some see good and others just the bad.
Our point of view is neither right nor wrong, it just is, but what we see is what is ultimately going to
dictate what we get.
Our attitudes are not based on what we think about a situation, but how we feel about it, and those
feelings arise from our beliefs.
What we believe about the world, and our place in it, it what will ultimately determine our results. It

Leadership Coaching: Convergence
Spiritual Life Coaching
When we look at the role of coaching and how it speaks to a person's spiritual life we first must
understand the definition of coaching. Whitmore (2001) quoted Gallwey's definition of coaching as
"Coaching is unlocking a person's potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them
to learn rather than teaching them" (p. 8). There are several definitions of coaching that attempts to
pinpoint or identify the various types of coaching. Harkavy (2007) shared what the purpose of a
coach is, "Your purpose as a coaching leader is to add the most value to the people you lead and to
help them improve" (p. 4). This definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those with the right attitude will embrace their role as a positive reinforce and they will strive to
help others see themselves as God sees them. The coach will build up, strengthen and encourage the
client with the love of Christ as they provide professional coaching. Crane & Patrick (2005),
suggested "Coaching requires the very best from all aspects of our humanity. It is not a path for the
weak–hearted or for people who are afraid to grow. It is a path for the courageous and for people
who are committed to making a difference in the lives of those they touch through coaching" (p.
217). The spiritual aspect of coaching as it relates to this previous quote is that we must be willing to
be like the eagle as shared in Isaiah 40:3, "But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their
strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall
walk and not faint." The effective coach must be willing to stay in for the long haul, when things are
not moving as quickly as you would like.
O'Neill shared that there may be times when what you are coaching and what the direction of the
company may lose its clarity or maybe the coachee has lost focus. O'Neill (2000), stated, "May
leaders try to suppress ambiguity, rather than acknowledge it, even to themselves" (p.26). The best
way to handle a situation like this is to deal with it head

If a group of students were asked who the biggest influence in their life was, many would say some

but coaching has a much broader spectrum. The major difference between a coach and other leaders
is commitment. Coaches help build plans for success for their followers and then follow their
progress until the goal is completed. In my life, I use coaching often with my younger siblings and

What Makes Life Coaching?
Desires can become your destiny.
To make any changes in your life you must first acknowledge that something needs to change. This
realisation might come about after experiencing difficulties in one, or commonly, more areas of your
life. These might include:–
Self esteem and confidence
Relationships
Career
Work/life balance
Health
Parenting
Stress
Bad habits (smoking, excessive drinking)
Exercise and nutrition
Debt and finances
Weight loss
Anxiety, depression and panic attacks
It is however important to acknowledge that although many of these factors impact on our life
situation, truly they are just symptoms. It is our core beliefs that shape our life experience; those
things that we believe and think about ourselves, others and the world at large.
Exploring your core beliefs begins to raise self awareness and acts as the catalyst for change.
What is life coaching?
Life coaching is a very positive and effective practice which helps people make significant and
meaningful (i.e. ones which will last) changes in their lives.
Although it is important to accept and acknowledge your past, indeed it has brought you to the point
you are at now, life coaching deals with the present moment and shaping your future, rather than
focusing on your past.
The role of a life coach is to help you to assess your life situation, as it is now, look at what you
want to achieve in your life and then help you decide how you can best achieve that.

Dunbar (2010) provided some helpful insight and information regarding finding a niche (p. 153–

Therefore, I feel Dunbar could have provided more detailed information regarding the legality of
different coaching niches or where that information can be found. I want to make sure that I have the

From what I have experienced within my current organization, coaching was only extended to senior

There is ongoing debate over the definition of coaching and mentoring. Not only does coaching
differs from mentoring it also varies differently from managerial approaches.
Several organizations have adopted the process of coaching and mentoring as development tools to
develop those employees who are seeking future advancement. Also, they are setting the foundation
for future leaders. The adaption of these developmental tools within an organization is providing
employees with the necessary feedback and support to establish and plan their career. Coaching and
mentoring provides an employee with the necessary leadership and management skills they would
need to endeavor in order to climb the career ladder within an organization. These processes are
both helping activities, employed either as distinct interventions or together as part of a package of
personal development. Coaching and mentoring are deemed a highly effective way to help
employees through talking, sense of direction and guidance, self–esteem, efficacy and
accomplishment.

Jennifer Popevec in "Management Matters" emphasized that mentoring has changed from another
word for training to building long=term relationships to help young people excel both personally
and professionally. Mentoring is for someone who really wants to help someone develop to the next
level, and you can't separate the personal from the professional. Mentoring usually ends up as a
form of training or coaching because it is easier than investing part of you in another person's
successes and failures.
Jennifer Popovec explains that there are four generations and each generation needs different things
from mentoring. The silent generation is stepping out of leadership roles but often remain in the
workplace. The new leaders are coming from the baby–boom generation and the older Gen Xers.
The baby–boomer and older Gen Xers are looking form long–term, relationship–driven mentoring.
The young Gen Xers and Millennial have some very obvious weaknesses that can be addressed by
mentoring. Gen Xers tend to be tech savvy but overall are more vulgar and less courteous than other
generations. Millennial tend to have few problems with courtesy, but have been overprotected by
their parents and now need extra coddling to adjust to work life.
From advice on what to wear to establishing a strong work ethic to suggestions on where to take a

Empowerment Coaching SOC 123 is quite the educational journey, I did not realize existed and
thoroughly enjoyed taking. Reading Leadership Coaching by Tony Stoltzfus and Coaching Based
Ministry by Tim Crosby and Mike McGervey taught me about coaching and what it means to really
listen to others. There are many aspects involved in the coaching process. As I studied, both these
books, I was learning foundational principles I would apply to my life now and carry throughout my
life as building blocks to develop my coaching skills. In this paper, I will discuss my six
foundational principles I would integrate into my own coaching practice.

How important is goal setting in Life Coaching? I believe setting goals is the most important part to
life coaching. Without goals there is nothing specific to accomplish. Goal setting in life coaching is
important because they help the client know exactly where they want to be and what they want to
attain to be successful. According to Collins (2009) "coaching will not be successful until she can
set specific goals that will enable her to make the career change she so strongly desires" (p.206).
These goals must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and within an acceptable time frame.
Describe how a life coach work with a person to implementing a plan to achieve goals. Before a life
coach can help a client implement a plan to achieve goals he or she must establish a relationship of
trust to help the client with awareness, visions, and a strategy to execute goals. A life coach doesn't
write the goals for the client, but help clarify what the ending results would look like for he or she
(Collins, 2009). After writing the goals on paper the coach helps the client together think through
and clarify the goals by break down and brainstorm ways to cut the goals in sections, which are
intern goals (p. 207). According to Collins (2009) "Intern goals are SMART goals ... Show more

be external barriers and internal barriers which get in the way of coaching effectiveness. The client

Pat Summitt Biography Essay
In the world of sports, men have traditionally tended to be the leaders on the court or on the field.
This statement is particularly true in terms of coaches. However, at one college in East Tennessee,
the coach's name that is synonymous with greatness is that of a female. Pat Summitt, arguably one
of the nation's most renowned and prestigious coaches in all of NCAA women's basketball, lived an
interesting life that was cut short by the devastating illness of Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract
The coach–client relationship is the heart of all life coaching processes. Whether it involves
executive coaching, leadership, marriage or financial coaching without a client to serve, a coach
cannot fulfill his or her purpose. Hence, knowing how to effectively build relationships with people
is fundamental to being a successful life coach. This research paper will explore the dynamics of the

Boyce et al (2010) states, "the similarity–attraction hypothesis maintains that similarity is a major
source of attraction between individuals and that a variety of physical, social, and status traits can be
used as the basis for inferring similarity in attitudes and beliefs" (p. 916). "Compatibility refers to
the appropriate combination of client and coach behavior preferences or the characteristics the client
and coach possess that influence their cognitions and behaviors in various situations" (Boyce et al,
2010, p. 916). It is believed that coaches who are matched with clients based on their styles of
behavior and similar personalities are more likely to have a healthier relationship (Boyce et al,
2010). Then again, if a mismatched coaching relationship continues to exist the coach may be able
to challenge the client's perspectives, which can result in higher performance outcomes (Boyce et al,
2010).
Credibility is another important factor when matching coaches and clients. Boyce, Jackson and Neal
(2010) state that, "credibility refers to a coach possessing the necessary credentials to meet client
needs and include coaching competence and experience" (p. 917). Not only does credibility involve
the coach's competence and experience, but their ability to hold true to their word. Clients' expect
coaches' to follow through on their word. With time, this ultimately forms the client's

Life Coaching And What It Can Do Essay
I just wanted to spread the word about Life Coaching and what it can do to help just about anyone.
No, not every coach is suited for every client but the right coach/client combination is such powerful
tool.
I hear different variations of the following questions and statements a lot: "What can a coach do for
me?", "I can 't afford to pay a coach!", "What does SHE know that I don 't know?", "I don 't need a
stinking ' Coach!" OK, well I tossed the word "stinking '" in there (smile) but I do know there are
many people who could benefit from the power of coaching but feel they don 't need it.
Let me ask you a question? Who is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time? Tiger Woods
right? Well guess what, the greatest golfer of all time has a coach! In fact Tiger has had several
coaches including Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, Sean Foley and most recently Chris Como. You see
even if you are the greatest at what you do, you can always improve on that greatness. Coaching
doesn 't always mean that there is something wrong with you, coaching can help you improve on
what you are already doing to make you even better.
Hopefully the following can open some eyes to the magic of this wonderful tool called life
coaching!

first of its kind; Life Coaching + Restorative Yoga. That being said, the bond, the connection that
was created during the six months was significant. In order for us to better serve others, to help
others heal, we had to heal ourselves. You can't give away what you don't have... As we gathered
around for dinner that last evening, we all had a giggle about how little we knew about each other's
"minutia". Our souls are forever bonded and that, in and of itself, is powerful and enough. But the
mind started to ask "What does your husband do for a living?" "Where did you go to college?" "Do
you own anything other than yoga pants?"... (TeeHee!) And then we continued to laugh about how
all of that doesn't matter. That what we know is plenty and full and lovely. That Soulful Connection
is so powerful. More powerful than minutia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Life Coaching Process Analysis
The goal setting phase of a Life Coaching session is crucial as it determines how one acquires the
change and sought out success from the coach. After establishing that change is necessary and
doable, the next step is the formation of a realistic plan with attainable goals. Author Gary R. Collins
(2009) delineates, "Attainable goals are specific rather than vague. They persist longer if there can
be consistent and accurate feedback on one's progress" (p. 63). The Life Coach ascertains from the
client problem areas, challenges, and obstacles that the client and Life Coach perceive and cognize
as hindrances to augmentation and rectification. Moreover, one incorporation to the course of action
to consider in the goal settings is "baby steps". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, encouraging and explaining to the client that change comes in increments and is a
tedious process full of rewards and benefits, but be kind to oneself if there are setbacks. Reviewing
and determining the triggers and circumstances surrounding the setbacks are opportunities to further
the achievement. Obstacles depend on the individual and their goals, three possible barriers are fear,
negative mindset and impatience. To overcome the hindrance of fear and negative mindset the same
principle applies. Collins (2009) asserts, "Pray read Philippians 4:6–7, talk openly to a friend,
challenge defeating self–talk, build a positive attitude, take small steps and notice what happens, and
stop imaging the worst–case possibilities" (p. 226). Moreover, with impatience Collins suggest,
"demonstrate patience and show small evidences of progress" (p. 227). The Life Coach recognizes
there is a war that exist in everyone's mind at some point in life. However, God is in victorious battle
and calms any storm and defeated the enemy on our behalf, the Life Coach knows this is a fixed
fight. As a Christian Coach, we are to explain that we are all victorious in Christ and encourage our
clients, brothers and sisters, not to give into a habit, defeat, and negative thinking. Furthermore, they
are more than conquerors. The fight of victory and faith is not easily resolved, but through prayer

Short Ethics Reference Guide For Life Coaching
Short Ethics Reference Guide In the growing area of life coaching, there are many boundaries and
considerations a psychologist would have to consider. Life coaching can grow in areas of inter–
based connections or one–on–one sessions in an office. The safety considerations would be has to be
diligently placed in the policies of the life coach to abide by and possibly initialing the references of
the policies in the informed consent. The American Psychology Association advises on some aspects
of what could happen in a life coaching services for psychologists. The International Coach
Federation (ICF) is another avenue of referencing. ICF does not cater to the psychologists, although
they have people who have had prior experience of coaching and education that provide professional
areas of coaching Code of Ethics (Anderson, Williams, and Kramer, 2012). Using some references
provided by the ICF or the APA could lead to some better solutions for ethical issues that may arise.
In a life coaching service ethical issues could result from the patient not understanding the
differences of the life coaching psychology and life–coaches in general. The difference between
psychology and coaching are the goals of each. Coaching is more general based and help healthy
people become more efficient in situations (Anderson, Williams, & Kramer, 2012). Coaching

Human Resource Development ( Hrd )
INTRODUCTION
Coaching is a purposeful connection with another human that supports immediate change and
stimulates long term sustainable results (Mann, S., & Smith, S., 2015, p.36) Many organizations are
turning to coaching and mentoring programs to develop talent. These programs connect the value of
internal employee resources to develop others, which saves time, cost, and increases overall
employee satisfaction and productivity. However, it can really help engage individuals and develop
their agility as well as ability to learn: a key indicator of leadership performance and potentials.
Human Resource Development (HRD) has become the main framework for assisting employees in
developing their personal and organizational skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Coaching is important to HRD because its main focus is developing a superior workforce in order
for the organization and its employees to be able to accomplish their goals through the employees.
Companies and organizations who actively try to ensure that their employees are stimulated and
properly developed have a low turnover rate.
REASONS FOR COACHING I chose coaching because every individual has the potential to grow
and develop in the right environment and coaching can be used as a tool to support this
development. In addition, Coaching is a professional partnership between a qualified coach and an
individual or team that supports the achievement of extraordinary results, based on goals set by the
individual or team.

Life Coaching Misconceptions Essay
Common Misconceptions Of Life Coaching
By Christina Cordle
Oct 20, 2012
Life coaching has become the popular method of improving the lives of workers and ordinary
individuals. For years, it is used by numerous individuals to correct their problems, to achieve their
goals and to boost success.
It becomes a popular byword not only in communities, but companies as well because they believed
of the power of coaching to change lives and to obtain the desired goals they want. At present,
supervisors and managers no longer criticize their subordinates, but they coach them to motivate
them.
What is life coaching?
It is a method wherein professional coaches work with clients to address specific personal problems,
personal projects, transitions, business successes, conditions in life and relationships. It is different
from mentoring, therapy, consulting and therapy because it focuses on the root cause of the problem.

What are these misconceptions?
Below are the common misconceptions about life coaching:
1. Life coaching is a therapy where individuals can rely on it for counseling and psychotherapy. – In
reality, coaching is not therapy, but a method to help individuals achieve their goals.
2. It can fix problems of individuals. – It is a misconception because coaching is just a tool and a
catalyst to help individuals find solutions to their own problems. It is not life coaching itself that
solved these problems, but it is the person involved who has the responsibility to address their
actions.
3. It is comparable to mentoring that gives individuals advice. – It is not similar to mentoring
because it does not give advice, but raises the awareness of individuals on their capability and

Coaching is one of the strategies that will assist the company to attract and retain talent of those staff who play critical roles in the organisation and who possess skills sets vital to organisational operations and performance. 3 What Is Coaching Defining coaching is not a straightforward exercise. For the purposes of this review we have identified the main definitions to offer an overview of coaching theory, models and practice most pertinent to the manufacturing industry. The term coaching comes from an old Anglo–Saxon word meaning carriage, in other words, something that takes you from where you are now to where you want to be. Kennedy (Kennedy, 2009) lists the following definitions The art of facilitating the performance, learning and development of another Unlocking a person's potential to maximize their own performance Closing the gap between thinking about doing and doing Coaching is about performing at your best through the individual and private assistance of someone who will challenge, stimulate and guide you to keep growing. Coaching is about getting results and helping clients understand their way of generating problems. Coaching assists a client in defining what they want, removing obstacles, setting goals, and striving for balance and fulfilment. Coaching is recognised as an effective organisational development tool which has solid foundations in psychology, philosophy and education and derives many of its principles and practices ... • 3. Teaching And Coaching As A Philosophy A philosophy can be defined as 'a set of values and behaviours that serve to guide the actions of a coach' (Wilcox and Trudel, 1998, p.41). By drawing from all facets of a person's life, each is specific to the learner and distinguishes teachers and coaches from one another. It can be consciously developed as the professional, teacher/coach and student within education is exposed to a practice as well as other life experiences. It is believed that 'clearly articulating one's philosophy is a prerequisite to good practice' (Cassidy et al, 2008, p.55) throughout this essay I hope to reflect on my increasing knowledge foundation in teaching and coaching and how it has successfully developed and been applied to my philosophy as a coach. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I disagree, as a coach I believe you must have specific sport knowledge to the sport in context but knowledge from a wider base to fully engage in successful practice of techniques which accompany a successful end result as well as being able to develop the athlete on a wider basis. This is supported by 'the fact coaches work with fewer people and at a higher skill level does not negate the fact that they are engaged in teaching...skills, techniques and strategies'( Drewe, 2000, p.81) this coupled with the fact coaches tend to spend more time with athletes which means they too, also develop the fundamental domains of the athlete. For this reason I believe both roles are intertwined and provide basis for both to thrive from. In order to for me to be an affective coach I must take both concepts and make sure that I develop the child's ability as well as other factors. A way I have developed as a coach is by exploring philosophies of coaching and in particular three core philosophical concepts, values (axiology), morality (ethics), and meaning (ontology). Values (axiology) can be split into two sources, which include value in both sport and coaching and more distinctly subjective and objective values. This is determined by whether a person is intrinsically or extrinsically motivated. Subjective values ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In recent years, life coaching has emerged as a new psychological concept to provide individuals overall successful personal and professional life. Introduction The life coaching is the way of helping people to achieve their highest level of desired goals or happiness and fulfillment. There has been very little heard or discuss about the concept of life coaching because it is a very recent phenomenon almost emerged during last two decades. However, the concept of coaching is not very new it has always been there in every field, be it sports, education, companies and many more. • 7. Christian Life Coaching Analysis I like how Dr. Gary Collins, in his book "Christian Coaching: Helping Others Turn Potential into Reality" (Collins, 2002), calls attention to the 1500's description of the word coach as a horse–drawn vehicle that was used to get you to where you wanted to go. You can use that definition as one way to define the word coach in the coaching terms. In the presentation "Coaching: The new helping relationship", Dr. Catherine Hart Weber defines coaching as an ongoing intimate transparent relationship for those making important changes in life. The big difference between coaching and all the of the others, is that as a coach you aren't solving there problems or helping them heal from the past, you are the motivation to think further into next steps of what they want to accomplish. This can by in many different aspects of the clients life. I would say that counseling, mentoring, and discipleship are all about relationship, but coaching, even though there is a relationship, it is results driven. Coaching is focused on the thing that the coachee wants to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The biblical worldview that a Christian coach should have would change the way they would approach a situation. It is no longer just about results or being the best you, a Christian coach should add in the biblical promises that scripture offers about those who believe in Jesus. I love that in the presentation "Christian Coaching: Scriptural and Spiritual Foundations," the say that all coaching should be be rooted in scripture. That way no matter what happens years from then the client can come back to the promise found in scripture and relive the moment. Christian Coaching is based on the fact that us as Christians have a purpose and a giftedness that God has blessed us with. As we coach it should be our goal to make sure our clients understand this and begin their journey to really figuring out what their kingdom impact is going to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a disorder with a recognized and persistent behavioral pattern that normally shows up during childhood. ADHD is stressful both for the sufferer and his/her parents, who often struggle with the restless behavior of kids. They might misjudge the child to be naughty or stubborn and rely on medications for help. However, medications and other treatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The techniques are mostly individualized and may not be the same for all. Some of the commonly used ADHD coaching methods are – Behavioral Orientation – Which involves training to correctly monitor behavior and bring the desirable changes in behavior. Several techniques like positive reinforcement, or time–out can be used by coaches. Parents and child need to work together and build up certain ways and strategies that help the child learn the suitable and acceptable behavioral patterns. Life Skills Improvement – ADHD children are helped out to open up their feelings and share their difficulties freely. The coach trains them to develop daily self–help habits that can aid in improving focus and attention. This also helps them in learning how to take correct decisions in life and working through disruptive behaviors. Attention Games – To increase focus and improve attention span of the ADHD children, different attention exercises are used by life coaches. For example, simple games like "freeze time" or "statue" can help a lot when dealing with kids as they are fun and engaging. • 11. Life Coaching History Essay The History of Life Coaching and Why You Should Care Life coaching does not have a precise date marking its beginnings since humans developed the innate ability to gain knowledge and enlightenment back at the beginning of civilization. However, the theoretical origins of life coaching can be traced to a number of disciplines including business management, sports psychology and targeted individual development techniques such as primal therapy and sensitivity training. The idea took off as recent as the 90's with the entrenchment of social imagination as one of the core values defining the science and art of coaching. This development is attributed to the advances made in the 70's and 80's, when this form of coaching took the self help and business dimension. The term life coaching is currently unregulated; this means people can use the term at their discretion. However, there have been attempts by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and the International Coach Federation to come up with an operative code of conduct. The standards are designed to set principles that players in the industry will need to abide by as life coaches. Coaching in the new age is about providing a framework that ... The third generation shaped the idea into a distinct profession. To appreciate all this, it is important to understand that humans are incredibly complex creatures with ability to experience different desires, temptations, insecurities, fears and impulses. With all these varied emotions, what matters is learning how to control raw emotions and reactions. Some of the research findings are listed below: Adults will commit to learning when they believe that the objectives are realistic and important for their personal and professional needs. Adults desire to be the origin of their own learning and should have some control over the what, who, how, why, when, and where of their learning. Coaching and other kinds of follow up support are needed because adult learners do not automatically transfer learning into daily practice. Adults need feedback on the results of their efforts. Adults need direct, concrete experiences for applying what they have learned to their work. Adult learners come to the learning process with self direction and a wide range of previous experiences. Employment for the purpose of coaching on a one to one basis responds to each of these characteristics of adult learners whether they lead schools or private businesses. The authors further discuss what coaching isn't. In order to understand the concept of coaching it is necessary to know what coaching is not, and to review some of the practices that are infrequently confused with it. Coaching is not training. Coaching is centered on context and design to respond to the needs of the individual learner. Coaching is not mentoring although effective mentors use coaching skills and strategies. ... • 17. Executive Coaching And Consultant: Case Study Executive Coaching and Consultant According to Sperry (2013), "leadership assessment is a necessary ingredient in effective executive coaching and consulting" (Sperry, 2013). A good leader makes the difference in coaching or consulting because a good leader recognizes their actions can greatly affect the life of another whether one person or many. For example, if you are a coach your client is more likely to be an individual and you coach them on a one–on–one basis. Coaching uses many of the skills trained therapist already possess, this can be of value in coaching clients (Smith, 2007). In contrast, a consultant can easily deal with a group, team, or a department within an organization. However, therapists are held to a higher standard and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both agencies can be of tremendous value to a consultant because the consultant is problem–focused while the coach builds on client's strengths (Smith, 2007). In addition, consultants gather data and sometimes conduct research to report on what needs to be done, but a coach will facilitate growth to obtain desire results. Ethics and Laws are equally important in any profession, but the idea is if the ethics code is applicable to a situation and deem to be the higher standard versus the law then use the ethical standard. If not, and the law is the higher standard in an ethical dilemma then obey the law, you can't go wrong. However, if the Ethics Code standard appears to conflict with the requirements of law, then psychologists should have a written record of their ethical stance, but not break the law and move forward to resolve the conflict to the best of their ability. The ICF states, "individuals or organizations retain consultants for their expertise. While consulting approaches vary widely, the assumption is the consultant will diagnose problems and prescribe and, sometimes, implement solutions. With coaching, the assumption is that individuals or teams can generate their own solutions, with the coach supplying supportive, discovery–based approaches and frameworks" (ICF, ... • 19. Life Coaching Essay Although I am often referred to as a life coach, I believe perspective coach better describes what I offer my clients. I like the word perspective because it means a particular attitude toward something; a point of view. A life coach is traditionally characterized as someone who counsels and encourages clients on matters having to do with career or personal challenges; counseling often defined as a form of advice. Although timely advice can be useful, many of us already have a number of well–meaning people lined up in our lives who are more than eager to dispense their vault of wisdom about the right way for us to live a happy and successful life. But if it were really as simple as just getting the right advice, then why would we struggle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We hear common idioms such as: The best things in life are free BUT you get what you pay for. Nothing ventured, nothing gained BUT better safe than sorry. So why do we struggle to change? "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." ~Anais Anin~ Each of has a very unique perspective of the world we see. Some of us see the macro while others focus more on the micro. Some see good and others just the bad. Our point of view is neither right nor wrong, it just is, but what we see is what is ultimately going to dictate what we get. Our attitudes are not based on what we think about a situation, but how we feel about it, and those feelings arise from our beliefs.

Coaching Diane Stevenson Regent University LDRC 502 Leadership Coaching: Convergence Spiritual Life Coaching When we look at the role of coaching and how it speaks to a person's spiritual life we first must understand the definition of coaching. Whitmore (2001) quoted Gallwey's definition of coaching as "Coaching is unlocking a person's potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them" (p. 8). There are several definitions of coaching that attempts to pinpoint or identify the various types of coaching. It is a path for the courageous and for people who are committed to making a difference in the lives of those they touch through coaching" (p. 217). The spiritual aspect of coaching as it relates to this previous quote is that we must be willing to be like the eagle as shared in Isaiah 40:3, "But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." The effective coach must be willing to stay in for the long haul, when things are not moving as quickly as you would like. O'Neill shared that there may be times when what you are coaching and what the direction of the company may lose its clarity or maybe the coachee has lost focus. • 26. What Makes Life Coaching? Desires can become your destiny. To make any changes in your life you must first acknowledge that something needs to change. This realisation might come about after experiencing difficulties in one, or commonly, more areas of your life. These might include:– Self esteem and confidence Relationships Career Work/life balance Health Parenting Stress Bad habits (smoking, excessive drinking) Exercise and nutrition Debt and finances Weight loss Anxiety, depression and panic attacks It is however important to acknowledge that although many of these factors impact on our life situation, truly they are just symptoms. It is our core beliefs that shape our life experience; those things that we believe and think about ourselves, others and the world at large. Exploring your core beliefs begins to raise self awareness and acts as the catalyst for change. What is life coaching? Life coaching is a very positive and effective practice which helps people make significant and meaningful (i.e. ones which will last) changes in their lives. Although it is important to accept and acknowledge your past, indeed it has brought you to the point you are at now, life coaching deals with the present moment and shaping your future, rather than focusing on your past. The role of a life coach is to help you to assess your life situation, as it is now, look at what you want to achieve in your life and then help you decide how you can best achieve that.

Without goals there is nothing specific to accomplish. Goal setting in life coaching is important because they help the client know exactly where they want to be and what they want to attain to be successful. According to Collins (2009) "coaching will not be successful until she can set specific goals that will enable her to make the career change she so strongly desires" (p.206). LIFC 202 Research Paper Relationship Building in Life Coaching Tacondra Brown LIFC 202 August 12, 2013 Liberty University Abstract The coach–client relationship is the heart of all life coaching processes. Whether it involves executive coaching, leadership, marriage or financial coaching without a client to serve, a coach cannot fulfill his or her purpose. Hence, knowing how to effectively build relationships with people is fundamental to being a successful life coach. This research paper will explore the dynamics of the coaching relationship as it relates to factors, such as commonalities and compatibilities, which influence the development and maintenance of effective relationships, as well as components that are critical to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boyce et al (2010) states, "the similarity–attraction hypothesis maintains that similarity is a major source of attraction between individuals and that a variety of physical, social, and status traits can be used as the basis for inferring similarity in attitudes and beliefs" (p. 916). "Compatibility refers to the appropriate combination of client and coach behavior preferences or the characteristics the client and coach possess that influence their cognitions and behaviors in various situations" (Boyce et al, 2010, p. 916). It is believed that coaches who are matched with clients based on their styles of behavior and similar personalities are more likely to have a healthier relationship (Boyce et al, 2010). Then again, if a mismatched coaching relationship continues to exist the coach may be able to challenge the client's perspectives, which can result in higher performance outcomes (Boyce et al, 2010). Credibility is another important factor when matching coaches and clients. Boyce, Jackson and Neal (2010) state that, "credibility refers to a coach possessing the necessary credentials to meet client needs and include coaching competence and experience" (p. 917). Not only does credibility involve the coach's competence and experience, but their ability to hold true to their word. Clients' expect coaches' to follow through on their word. • 61. Life Coaching And What It Can Do Essay I just wanted to spread the word about Life Coaching and what it can do to help just about anyone. I hear different variations of the following questions and statements a lot: "What can a coach do for me?", "I can 't afford to pay a coach!", "What does SHE know that I don 't know?", "I don 't need a stinking ' Coach!" OK, well I tossed the word "stinking '" in there (smile) but I do know there are many people who could benefit from the power of coaching but feel they don 't need it. Let me ask you a question? Who is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time? Tiger Woods right? Well guess what, the greatest golfer of all time has a coach! In fact Tiger has had several coaches including Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, Sean Foley and most recently Chris Como. You see even if you are the greatest at what you do, you can always improve on that greatness. Coaching doesn 't always mean that there is something wrong with you, coaching can help you improve on what you are already doing to make you even better. Hopefully the following can open some eyes to the magic of this wonderful tool called life coaching! • 63. Summary: Life Coaching + Restorative Yoga I recently finished my 200RYT. I spent 6 months with 21 amazing people. This certification is the first of its kind; Life Coaching + Restorative Yoga. That being said, the bond, the connection that was created during the six months was significant. In order for us to better serve others, to help others heal, we had to heal ourselves. You can't give away what you don't have... As we gathered around for dinner that last evening, we all had a giggle about how little we knew about each other's "minutia". Our souls are forever bonded and that, in and of itself, is powerful and enough. But the mind started to ask "What does your husband do for a living?" "Where did you go to college?" "Do you own anything other than yoga pants?"... (TeeHee!) And then we continued to laugh about how all of that doesn't matter. That what we know is plenty and full and lovely. That Soulful Connection is so powerful. More powerful than minutia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You meet someone and immediately feel connected, without "KNOWING" them. We have connections with things that don't serve us, that actually create disconnection; food, booze, shopping, social media, being "busy". • 67. Life Coaching Process Analysis The goal setting phase of a Life Coaching session is crucial as it determines how one acquires the change and sought out success from the coach. After establishing that change is necessary and doable, the next step is the formation of a realistic plan with attainable goals. Author Gary R. Collins (2009) delineates, "Attainable goals are specific rather than vague. They persist longer if there can be consistent and accurate feedback on one's progress" (p. 63). The Life Coach ascertains from the client problem areas, challenges, and obstacles that the client and Life Coach perceive and cognize as hindrances to augmentation and rectification. Moreover, one incorporation to the course of action to consider in the goal settings is "baby steps". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, encouraging and explaining to the client that change comes in increments and is a tedious process full of rewards and benefits, but be kind to oneself if there are setbacks. Reviewing and determining the triggers and circumstances surrounding the setbacks are opportunities to further the achievement. Obstacles depend on the individual and their goals, three possible barriers are fear, negative mindset and impatience. To overcome the hindrance of fear and negative mindset the same principle applies. Collins (2009) asserts, "Pray read Philippians 4:6–7, talk openly to a friend, challenge defeating self–talk, build a positive attitude, take small steps and notice what happens, and stop imaging the worst–case possibilities" (p. 226). Moreover, with impatience Collins suggest, "demonstrate patience and show small evidences of progress" (p. 227). The Life Coach recognizes there is a war that exist in everyone's mind at some point in life. However, God is in victorious battle and calms any storm and defeated the enemy on our behalf, the Life Coach knows this is a fixed fight. As a Christian Coach, we are to explain that we are all victorious in Christ and encourage our clients, brothers and sisters, not to give into a habit, defeat, and negative thinking. Furthermore, they are more than conquerors. The fight of victory and faith is not easily resolved, but through prayer and life changes the walk gets easier with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Human Resource Development ( Hrd ) INTRODUCTION Coaching is a purposeful connection with another human that supports immediate change and stimulates long term sustainable results (Mann, S., & Smith, S., 2015, p.36) Many organizations are turning to coaching and mentoring programs to develop talent. These programs connect the value of internal employee resources to develop others, which saves time, cost, and increases overall employee satisfaction and productivity. Coaching is important to HRD because its main focus is developing a superior workforce in order for the organization and its employees to be able to accomplish their goals through the employees. Companies and organizations who actively try to ensure that their employees are stimulated and properly developed have a low turnover rate. REASONS FOR COACHING I chose coaching because every individual has the potential to grow and develop in the right environment and coaching can be used as a tool to support this development. In addition, Coaching is a professional partnership between a qualified coach and an individual or team that supports the achievement of extraordinary results, based on goals set by the individual or team. ...
