3. Urbanization-How cities grow?
Urbanization refers to
the proportion of
people living in cities
Urbanization also refers
to the process in which
rural populations move
move to urban areas
Urban system of cities
refers to the network
of individual cities
within a region or
country
4. Urbanization is
happening faster
Urban design is concerned with the
design of the building, places,
spaces and networks that make up
our towns and cities, and the ways
people use them.
It ranges in scale from a
metropolitan region, city or town
down to a street, public space or
even a single building.
5. Urban and rural
population
With rapid urbanization rural
population is declining and it is
estimated that by 2050, 75 percent
world population will be in urban
areas. Associated with factors like-
1. -population increase
2. -immigration from other
countries.
3. -Reclassification of urban
boundaries to encompass former
urban areas
7. Cities : why cities are where they
are, and how the geography of
cities affects the way urbanites live.

8. Evolution of cities

theory-of-cities
In the "science of cities,"
we may be approaching a
moment where mere
classification—a long
tradition in the urban-
planning world—and
untested hypotheses are
moving toward a unified
model.
17. Theories of Urban Planning- Cities
Evolution
Theoretical and practical efforts to
create better cities have a long
history. Before Walter
Christaller’s “central place
theory” and Charles Lindblom’s
exploration of the “science of
muddling through”, there was
Ebenezer Howard’s
utopian “garden city movement”,
the enduring “concentric zone
model” of Ernest Burgess, and the
“multiple nuclei model” of Chauncy
Harris and Edward Ullman.
