Thomas Sydenham, was an English
physician. He was the author of
Observationes Medicae which became a
standard textbook of medicine for two
centuries.

Thomas Sydenham was born in Dorset,
which is country is south-west England.
At the age of eighteen Sydenham was entered at
Oxford; and he served for a time as an officer in the
army during the Civil War, he was probably
seriously injured during the war, which may have
prompted his interest in medicine.
He completed his Oxford course in 1648, graduating
as bachelor of medicine, It was not until nearly
thirty years later that he graduated as MD, not at
Oxford, Cambridge.

His first book,(The Method of Curing Fevers), was
published in 1666.
He describe the clinical characteristics of measles.
stressed the importance of bedside practice and
observation.
create and have his own nosological method .
Among his many achievements was the discovery of
a disease, Sydenham's Chorea.

Sydenham's personal history in
London.
He died at his house on 29 December
1689, aged 65.
