Campus to Communities members at the children’s day programme held in June.
 The red cross motherless babies home
consists of an administrative block, a
home for the children and a school.
 The home houses about 30 children
 The school’s attendance is not restricted
to the home, hence children from the
neighborhood attend the school.
 Our contact is Matron(mama)
 Volunteers are to conduct after school
lessons and help the children with their
homework.
 To assist the caretakers in carrying out basic
tasks. Eg feeding, changing diapers etc
 Specific challenges of the home which we
intend to assist in solving are:
 phasing the of-age children from primary
school into nearby secondary schools
 Assisting with adoption processes
 Organising celebrations to mark holidays
 To assist the children academically
 Fostering of mentoring relationships
which will provide the children with role
models
 Assisting the over-worked staff by taking
over simple tasks such as feeding the
children, playing with them etc
 Well developed children (psychologically,
emotionally, physically) who are fully
equipped to succeed in today’s world.
 A mentoring relationship between the
volunteers and the children which will
provide the children with role models
 Sorting out challenges of the home as
afore-mentioned such as adoption and
phasing children out of the primary school
into the secondary school.
Strengths:
• Interested students willing to
volunteer their time
• Financial aid from sponsors can
be used to provide teaching aids
•Youthful vigour in our approach to
teaching children and preteens.
Weaknesses:
•Holidays ( volunteers living in
distant areas)
•Our youthful appearance may not
command respect from the
children.
•Unserious attitude towards
commitment in many youths.
Opportunities:
•Interaction with the children can
have positive influence on the
volunteers.
•A heightened maturity, an effect
from being responsible for persons
other than yourself
•Rewards at the C2C Gala Nite for
dedication to the project.
Threats:
•Likelihood of strike
•Poor reception due to a lack of
professional training in teaching
children.
•Means and cost of transportation
to the venue.
 20 volunteers are required for this project, with a set
of 4 going each day of the week.
 There are about 30 children in the home so there is a
ratio of 1volunteer to 7-8 children daily.(1:7.5)
 Volunteers put in two hours a week in this project.
 There is an application form to be filled before
volunteers can be selected.
 Volunteers are to arrive before 4pm on their
designated days and immediately check in with the
holder of the register at the home.
 Volunteers are also to tick the register with the project
coordinator after putting in their volunteer hours.
 Volunteers who are absent thrice in a row will be
removed out of the project.
 The children are available for after
school lessons between 4pm and 6pm
from mondays to fridays.
 Here is a sample of the scheduling
system:
Time monday tuesday wednes
day
thursday Friday
4-6pm Insert
name
 The application form is to be filled by
prospective volunteers.
 One passport photograph is to be submitted
along with the filled application form.
 The passport photograph will be used in the
creation of C2C identification cards, which will
be displayed to security or authorized
personnel before carrying out volunteer-duties..
 Not all applicants may be selected but there
will be a back up list from which undedicated
volunteers will be replaced.
 There will be recognition for consistency,
creativity in handling the children and all
other notable attributes of the volunteers
 Exceptional children in behavior and
academics will be recognised.
 Recognitions shall take place at
programs organised by the C2C.
 Orphaned and abandoned children.
 Overworked staff will receive assistance.
 Volunteers who have dedicated their
time to the project.
 All interested volunteers should familiarize
themselves with children learning aids
such as queen premier, coloring books,
storybooks, textbooks etc.
 Teaching aids such as packets of chalk,
pencils, paper and even sweets that will
serve as rewards for the kids are
required.
