1. Wrapping Up Blended Learning
-Melissa Winfield-Corbett
1. How can you create a blended learning environment in your classroom?
Blended learning can be created in a multitude of different ways in a classroom
learning environment. Since blended learning comprises a combination of
different learning environments it can readily be applied to a variety of different
grade levels and educational settings. Blended learning can effectively be created
when there is a balance between technology and teachings. These two elements
should inform each other. It is also essential that students alternate regularly
between engaging with teachers and peers and focusing on online content tailored
to their learning pace and progress. Integrating online content and offline
instruction helps students helps maximize instructional outcomes and consequently
also helps to prepare students for an ever changing modernized society.Blended
learning effectively optimizes student-teacher interactions and hence make student
learning experiences more meaningful.
2. How can this environment help you meet the Common Core State Standards?
Since the Common Core State Standards focus on shifts in students being able to
critically think and construct deeper meaning of different types of text blended
learning is essential. Blended learning can open up a realm of different learning
experiences that can be both collaborative and independent in nature. Using
technology to enhance and broaden classroom experiences is essentially and
extension of how our modern operates. The Common Core State Standards have
been implemented to exemplify this modernization.
3. What new challenges and goals do you have for yourself and your students?
This year I hope to practice and perfect at least 2-3 new forms of technology that
will enhance the needs of my students and their parents. I find that parental support
2. is a big issue in my school district. I would like to extend the technology to meet
the needs of this sector as well. Since technology is such an important aspect of
society, I think it is important to enable parents to utilize this to enhance their role
in the education of their students.
4. How have your explorations of technology and blended learning make you a
better educator?
I think it has made me a better educator because as an educator I believe it is
essential to continuously stay abreast of the new forms of technology that can have
an impact on classroom experiences. Technology is an integral part of our society.
Technology is no longer a luxury. It has become mainstreamed. It is essential in
today’s workforce to be technologically literate. Thus, we as teachers must be
equipped to prepare our students for the modern workforce they will be entering as
they venture into their adult lives.
