Technology in the Math Curriculum
IXL is a great resource for students because it
contains a plethora of practice activities that
students can use for independent practice or that
teachers can use projected on the Smartboard. The
practice problems are also directly aligned to the
Common Core Learning Standards. Teachers can
direct student to select a specific standard and
practice that specific skill. Students can also
practice at home. This would also be a great site to
use for final exam review.
Khan Academy is another great resource for
classroom use. This site contains hundreds of
educational tutorials in various content areas. The
math tutorials also cover a broad range from
kindergarten through post-secondary. In addition
to having video tutorials, this site has also added
practice problems that include hints and links to
videos that demonstrate how to solve the problem.
Khan academy is great for students who need
additional clarification or reinforcement. It is a
great resource for homework help. It is also a great
resource for parents who may struggle with math
and need assistance in being able to help their
children at home, especially with the
implementation of the new Common Core State
Standards.
Smart Exchange is another great online resource. It
is a convenient way for teachers to be able to share
Smartboard lessons and games with each other.
These files can be downloaded and modified so that
teachers can create their own unique lessons to
meet the needs of their students. Lesson notes can
also be added for the teacher. Smartboard activities
are great for students with disabilities because it
enables them to be able to directly interact with the
content in a meaningful and constructive form.
Math Goodies is another great online resource for
learners. Math Goodies is the equivalent of an
online notebook for students. This site also has built
in interactive practice problems for students. This
site would be a great alternative for students who
have difficulty copying from the board or drawing.
This site contains many colorful visuals and easy to
follow examples. This would be a great resource for
use during study hall or a center activity.
