Teacher DevelopmentWe will intensify teacher development to prepare educators for the implementation of the Curriculumand Assessment Policy Statement and pay special attention to the training of principals, particularlythose in underperforming schools.
The Department commits itself to the delivery of the targets set out in the Action Plan and tostrengthening reporting on the state of basic education. This will be done through the publication offrequent reports flowing from the monitoring and research work of the Department, and in particular,the publication of an annual report on the state of the basic education sector. These reports will trackthe progress of the sector in terms of Outcome 1 of the Delivery Agreement and the four outputs, aswell as the interconnected goals also set out in the Action Plan.
The innovation level focuses on the transformational use of ICT to redefine the role of theteacher and classroom environments. At this level, entirely new learning environments thatuse ICT as a flexible tool for whole-school development and for collaborative and interactivelearning are developed. The innovation level is a specialisation level and is suited for study atadvanced postgraduate levels. At least 10% of practising teachers should register for part time studies.
