- Systems include biological organisms (e.g., the human body), factories, political entities, communities, industries, parishes, orchestras, families, teams – and all organisations. You and your work are probably elements of dozens of different systems.”
- Social and political institutions are the context within which individuals and groups live. Context within which we mostly live and work. Social and political institutions are meant to provide the resources people need to survive. People's lives and activities are in large part shaped by the institutions and structures in which they find themselves. Social justice is, in part, a matter of ensuring that these social structures do in fact satisfy basic human needs. In many places, social institutions and structures exploit, exclude and allow for unequal access to resources. Then structural forces create a system of winners and losers in which people get trapped in particular social situations.
- What systems might be at work here?
- Indiviuals Organisations Systems Church context often confused with ‘judgement’ and ‘unconditional’ Does need change of mentality and emphasis in some cases. Creating dependency Handout cultures Benefit systems/welfare systems.
- Local to Madagascar What systems might be at work here? How were they tackled? Ask the jigsaw questions – who do you walk with? What do you see? What are you called to do? What is the challenge?

Mission - motivation and direction - Love for Christ in the person of the poor Person - focusing on the poor and the individual - Respect for the dignity of all Task – how – Organisation - Vincent and organisation Partnership for impact Respect for all who work for the alleviation of poverty Vincent and justice Vincent and political action Vincent as a leader of change Commonly held that this is all that SC means – and it is important but is only part. Also widely held that advocacy is separate from practice – causes issues – my experience.
