To meet specific requirements
in finshed coats,special
finishing materials like
PLASTER OF PARIS
is used in building
constuction.
The Following Are The Main Uses Of
Plaster Of Paris In Building Construction.
• Internaldecoration
• Cornices
• Centerpieces
• Otherceilingornaments
• Consolebrackets
cannot be used for exterior work
• Owning to its solubility and rapid destruction when exposed to the
weather.
• Filling up holes in walls
and ceilings or other
defects and sometimes in
pattern making for
PLASTERONLATH
Counter consists in nailing short pieces of
laths at 12 in intervals across a beam or similar
surface which comes in the way , so that
lathing and plastering may be continued
across it in the contrary direction without
interrupting the key. The lathing should be best
Baltic Fir.
Special Plastering Materials for
Different Purposes Used in
Building Construction
• Asbestos marble plaster
• Acoustic plaster
• Granite silicon plaster
• Gypsum plaster
• Martin’s cement plaster
• Barium cement plaster
• Kenee’s plaster
• Scagliola plaster
• Snow Crete and colourcrete cement plaster
• Sirapite plaster
• Parian cement plaster
• Thistle hard wall plaster
KIND OF MATERIAL IN PLASTER
• 10. Sirapite Plaster
• Plaster of Paris is slaked with petroleum to get sirapite plaster. It
provides white surface finish after hardening. It also sets quickly
and has good resistance against fire.
• 11. Parian Cement Plaster
• When Borax is calcined with plaster of Paris Parian cement plaster is
obtained. It is similar to Kenee’s cement plaster but it is cheaper
than that.
• 12. Thistle Hardwall Plaster
• Thistle is nothing but high-grade gypsum. It is quick setting and
sound proof. It provides good finishing to the surface and generally
preferred for interior works.
There are 3 qualities of POP IN
MARKET
1. SUPER FINE
2. AND FINE , SOLD IN CASKS OF 2 CWT
3.COARSE SOLD IN SACKS OR BAGS FROM 7
LB UPWARDS.
WEIGHT PER STRIKED BUSHEL=64 LB
(1 pound=0.453592 kg )
OR
WEIGHT PER CUBIC FOOT= 50 LB
Advantages of Plaster of
Paris
• It is light in weight and more durable.
• It has low thermal conductivity.
• It is very good fire resistant and hence a very good heat
insulating material.
• It does not shrink while setting. Therefore, it does not
develop cracks on heating or setting.
• It has good adhesion on fibrous materials.
• It gives a firm surface on which the colours can settle.
• Plaster of Paris gives a decorative interior finish. Its
gypsum content provides it a lot of shine and
smoothness.
• It can easily be moulded into any shape.
Disadvantages of
Plaster of Paris
• It is more expensive than cement or
cement lime plaster.
• It cannot be used in moist situations.
• Skilled labour is required for precise
application and thus labour cost for
applying plaster of Paris is high.
