Evaluation question 4
1. EVALUATION QUESTION 4: HOW DIDYOU
USE MEDIATECHNOLOGIES INTHE
CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?
ByTyrone Karic
2. Laptops + PC’s
I used a laptop or a PC to do all my work on.This included my planning,
research, production and my evaluation.
3. Tripod
In my music video I used a tripod to help stabilise my camera while filming. This was
effective for me because in my final edit none of my footage was shaky and
therefore looks more professional.
However one disadvantage of this was the size of the tripod, as the tripod could not
fit in my bag, so I had to carry it around with me which made me get more tired
quicker, as I would be out of breath carrying the tripod.
4. SD Card
In making my music video I had to use an SD card to place all of my film storage on. I
could manually insert this into my camera and also the SD card I used had 16 GB of
storage space.
However a disadvantage of using an SD card was that I often lost my SD card, as it
was so little and without an SD card you cannot film. Also I realised that 16 GB was
not enough storage for recording my music video and so I had to buy another 16 GB
SD card throughout recording.
5. Cannon EOS 1200D
The camera I used for my music video was a Canon EOS 1200D.This camera was
very effective in making the footage look professional and it was also easy for me to
use for transport, as it was not too heavy or too big. I also used this camera to take
photos for my ancillary text, as I felt because of the crisp and professional quality of
this camera my ancillary text would look better than using any phone camera.
I did experience some difficulties with this camera from my first shooting date. As I
did not know how to focus the camera and so all my footage was out of focus.
However by my second shooting date I learnt how to focus the camera and so this
was not a problem for me again. Also this camera I used was college equipment, so
often when I tried to book a camera it would be fully booked and so I had to push my
filming to a further date.
6. The Internet – Google
The internet was extremely useful throughout my research. This was because it
helped me analyse existing music videos, as it helped me find out what I will and not
include in my music video. I used google for this, as this proved to be a reliable
browser, as this browser assisted me throughout my planning, research and
evaluation. Google is also extremely easy to use, as I have been using Google, as my
main browser for many years.
7. YouTube
YouTube was also a huge help for me, as I usedYouTube throughout my planning
stages through their huge range of existing music videos which I could research and
plan on.This helped me gain ideas for my own music video.YouTube is also where I
uploaded all my videos on, asYouTube was a very easy/reliable place to receive
feedback on.
8. MicrosoftWord
I also use Microsoft Word to write my essays for my textual analysis. This was
becauseWord has spell check and so after I finish writing I could copy and paste this
onto Blogger.
A disadvantage in usingWord however is that the software is very bland and boring,
so using this constantly would bore my audience.
9. Prezi
Another way I have presented my work has been on Prezi. I used Prezi often
throughout this year and this is seen in posts such as my codes and conventions of
chosen form post. I used Prezi because it looked more professional than Word, as
there are much more styles to choose from and so my audience would not get as
bored than they would have in reading fromWord. You can also embedYouTube
videos on Prezi, so when presenting your work you can have theYouTube file on the
Prezi.
A disadvantage to Prezi, however is that you can only use this application online, so
this means if you have faulty internet you will have to wait until it goes back up to
use Prezi.
10. Print screen
I often used print screen, as this helped explain my analysis in the music videos, as I
could pause the video and then press print screen and then I can present the image
to explain my analysis .
11. Survey Monkey
I used Survey Monkey to help me get a deeper understanding of what would attract
my specific audience in my music video. There responses were analysed and applied
into my main product.Without Survey Monkey I would have had a difficult time
making my music video, as I would have not known what would have attracted my
target audience to my music video.
A disadvantage of using Survey Monkey is that they is not a wide spread of people
who use it. As only the people you have shared the link with will be able to answer
the questions. I believe that Survey Monkey should allow more people to view it, so I
could have more data on how to define my genre.
12. Social Media
Social media was also a massive help for me, as I received lots of feedback on my
product with social media, as this was definitely the easiest way to receive
feedback, as mostly everyone has social media and so they would be able to view
the video and comment on it.
One disadvantage in using social media is that it required internet and so this meant
I had to use my data off my phone and if I ran out of data I would have been charged
extra.
13. Adobe Premiere Elements
For my editing I used Adobe Premiere Elements. I found this editing software
extremely good, as it had a range of features on it. It was also very easy to use, as it
had clear instructions on it. I produced all my videos from this editing software; this
included my animatic, drafts of my music videos and my final draft. Another
advantage using Adobe Premiere Elements was that I had this editing software at
home, so I could work on my music video a lot longer, as I could go on it when I got
home instead of just using an editing software at college.
14. Photoshop
For my ancillary text I used Photoshop because it allows for good quality editing
within my image. Also Photoshop gives you so much creative freedom and so it was
a big help for me with my ancillary text. I also used Photoshop regularly for my AS
media coursework and so I was confident in using Photoshop.
15. USB Stick
One of the most important media technology tools I used throughout my whole A2
course was a USB stick, as this is where I stored all my files such as my Photoshop
files that had my ancillary text on it and also my research work on it.When I was
finished with these files I would post it on my blog. I put all my work on a USB stick,
because I would be able to do my work on any computer. I never faced a shortage of
storage space on my USB stick, as this is because my USB stick contained 32 GB of
storage space.
A disadvantage in using a USB stick is that you could faced the risk of losing the USB
stick. Also your USB stick could get corrupted or faulty. This is why I had back up on
my work on my computer at home.
16. Blogger
I presented all my work on Blogger, as I stored all of my A2 coursework on this site. I
did this because Blogger has proven to be very reliable, as I used this site last year
with my AS course as it was easy to access and use. Also on Blogger you can add
images and videos and was therefore very reliable for me to use, as I could post my
work onto the blog.
