 This presentation on project delivery life cycle gives a practical approach to
problem solving applied to all aspects of a project.
 The project management life cycle describes high-level processes for delivering
a successful project.
 A project life cycle typically has 4 major phases.
- Initiation phase
- Planning phase
- Implementation/Execution Phase
- Closure phase
Note: Some methodologies also include a fifth phase—controlling or
monitoring—but for our purposes, this phase is covered under the execution
and closure phases.

Initiation Phase
The first phase explores the project concept. The project need
is identified in this initiation phase. It signals the start of a
project.
Steps for the project initiation phase include the following:
 Identifying scope
 Identifying deliverables
 Project charter is developed for approval.
 Identifying project stakeholders
 Undertaking a feasibility study and create a Functional
Requirement Specification (SRS)
 Developing a business case
 Developing a statement of work

Planning Phase
This phase is where the project solution is further explored
and the steps necessary to achieve their goals are as
below.
 Creating a project plan
 Creating workflow diagrams
 Estimating budget and creating a financial plan
 Gathering resources
 Build your functional team from internal and external
resource pool
 Anticipating risks and potential quality roadblocks
 Holding a project kick-off meeting

Implementation Phase
The execution phase turns your plan into action. Steps for the
project execution phase may include the following:
 Creating tasks and organizing workflows
 Briefing team members on tasks and organizing process-
related training if necessary
 Provide updates to project stakeholders at all levels
 Monitoring quality of work
 Managing budget
 Constant and close monitoring of the work should be
done to ensure efficiency of the project execution

Closure Phase
This phase is the final closing of all project processes and
handling over deliverables to the customer.
Steps for the project closure phase may include the following:
 Analysing project performance
 Analysing team performance
 Documenting project closure
 Conducting post-implementation reviews

Final Thoughts
 While the PMBOK and PMI gives an outline of a typical
project, no two projects are the same.
 Practicality and pragmatism is the best approach to any
project.
 By remaining on task even though the project’s work is
completed, you will be prepared to take everything you have
learned and implement it for your next project.
