Here is a slideshow of how my preliminary task of creating a college magazine has helped me and allowed me to gain skills for when I create my music magazine.

2. I wanted to create a magazine which would be suitable for the audience,
which is college students. This meant that I had to use images of students
from the college in order to make the magazine appealing to other students
as they would be interested to read about their fellow students. I only used
one image on my front cover as I wanted that one image to have all of the
attention and I didn’t want my page to look cluttered as this would distract
the students and perhaps put them off reading my magazine.
My contents page only contains one image, this is also to prevent the page
from becoming cluttered as it has quite a lot of text on the page, informing
the reader what page the articles are on.
I have kept the same house style throughout the magazine as this makes it
look more professional and interesting.

3. My magazine is aimed at both male and female who both are between
the age of 16-18. They had to be this age as my magazine is for college
students and this is the main age of people who attend college. My
magazine has been designed to be suitable for this audience as I have
used images of students who attend the college; making other students
want to read the magazine as people they may know are in the images. I
have also used a simple but interesting layout and I haven’t used too
much formal language as that wouldn’t have been suitable for my young
target audience.

4. For each step of creating my magazine I have uploaded examples to my
blog. As this has been my first task in Media Studies, uploading these step
by step tasks to my blog has helped me to understand how to use it and
how to upload different things such as both images and text. This is going
to make creating my music magazine and other coursework a lot easier as
I now know how to use my blog due to this preliminary task.

5. I took my own images for my college magazine and I edited them on
Photoshop. I edited my images to make them look more suitable for a
magazine; removing all spots and arks I didn’t want on the images and re-colouring
them. As I used photo shop to edit my images, I now feel like I am
more experienced in the program and I know that when it comes to making
my music magazine, I will be able to use Photoshop a lot better than I could
have before in order to create more professional looking images.

6. Whilst doing the preliminary task, I have figured out how to use my blog. I have
learnt how to upload things and how to create different layouts on my blog. I have
also gained some Photoshop skills which will come in useful when creating my
music magazine and doing other pieces of coursework. I can now edit photos by
changing colours, removing unwanted marks and making images brighter or darker.
Also, I am now more aware of what needs to be in a magazine and how they look;
this will help me with creating my music magazine as I can apply all of the things I
have learnt whilst doing my preliminary task.
