2. For our 3+ minute long crime documentary we decided to
cast 6 characters. To do this we held auditions for the roles
of the main characters. We decided that we were going to
have 3 news presenters (Mollie, Jamie and Eve) a mixture of
male and female (1 male and 2 females). We then also cast
a stereotypical male undercover police officer (Louis), and
again a stereotypical female victim (Emiliese), who was
attacked and robbed by a male ‘stalker’ (Luke). To back up
our recreation of the attack and to validate it we had a
female eyewitness (Halena) who was work friends with the
victim.
We have chosen to go with these stereotypes of the male
police officer and female victim, so the public could relate
to the documentary and understand it, as these are the
most common stereotypes reinforced into their heads
through films, TV programmes and so on.
3. MOLLIE OWEN (PRESENTER)
We chose Mollie for role of the
presenter because she looked
professional and intellectual. She
was well dressed, well spoken and
smart, so she was a perfect
stereotypical fit for the role.
Mollie came across as an
experienced, charismatic and
determined individual. She is calm
and acted very relaxed and natural
whilst on set. Ample amounts of eye
contact with the camera were being
made during trial runs. Hence giving
her the qualities of a good news
reporter, and picking her to be part
of our documentary.
4. EVE KERRIGAN (PRESENTER)
Eve is also extremely well
dressed and well spoken. She
comes across very intelligent
and likeable to everyone.
Eve has a very interactive and
magnetic personality, she makes
people want to continue
watching and listening to her
because her voice and charisma
and so engaging.
Her voice is clear and she
remained calm and collected
whilst on set practicing, she
didn’t come across as nervous
at all.
5. JAMIE EGAN (PRESENTER)
Jamie was cast for the role as a
presenter because of how
natural he looked on set in
auditions. He was calm, and
looked like a natural.
His body language enticed
people in, and his bubbliness
and confidence makes people
automatically attracted to him.
Furthermore, Jamie’s
pronunciation of words and his
dialogue are spot on. He uses
no slang words and has a very
clear and textured voice.
6. EMILIESE BRANION (VICTIM- MAISY
ROBERTS)
Emiliese was chosen to play the part
of Maisy Roberts the victim is our
crime documentary because she
fitted the damsel in distress
stereotype.
Emiliese fitted the representation
that we wanted to portray, which
was a young girl in her 20’s being
robbed and attacked.
She fitted our case study perfectly
and she is a attractive young girl
which reinforces the stereotypes
even more.
7. LOUIS TAYLOR (PC JONES)
Louis was chose to play the role
of the police officer because he
looks like a very smart
individual. He is an undercover
police officer/detective hence
the smart suit wear.
He has a team/work force
working underneath him and his
commands but he represents
them and is the chosen speaker
to relay what is happening, and
updates on the charges, trials,
conviction and well being of
Maisy.
8. SEAN CAVIGAN (ATTACKER-TOBY
WESTGATE)
Sean has been chosen to play the role
of the attacker Toby Westgate.
He has been picked for this role
because he is the stereotypical tall,
strong and muscly man, who evidently
overpowers Maisy, hence the damage
he causes.
Although his part isn’t scripted and
he doesn’t talk as he is part of the re-
enactment of the documentary his
body language and stage presence of
that of a criminal is spot on.
He comes across very aggressively
and he makes it clear that he knows
what he wants.
9. HALENA SCAIFE-TOVEY
(ANONYMOUS WITNESS)
Halena has been chosen to
play the role of our witness
because she is around the
same age as Emiliese our
victim.
They are friends already so
Halena will really be able to
divulge her true emotions
towards any harm coming to
Emiliese.
Halena also has a very clear
voice, so although she wont be
visible on screen she will be
understood and listened to by
the viewers.
