2. Likes & dislikes about crime documentaries

• As a group we have decided to take the approach that Channel 4 take
when producing, airing and deciding on the type of documentary they
show.
• We believe that Channel 4, go down a more specific route then The
BBC do, and their documentaries are more of a ‘one off’, instead of a
series such as BBC 1’s Crime Watch.
• Furthermore, Channel 4 focus more on the harsh reality of crime and
the ways in which they affect peoples life, psychological problems
there after and whether the justice system is executed properly and
fairly.
3. …
• We want our documentary to involve enactment’s and replays of the
crime itself, which will be an attack, followed by a car robbery.
• We will show this through the use of CCTV, and attempt to edit
infrared cameras into our documentary for more affect.
• We will also include an advice section, and a help line so the
documentary becomes more interactive which viewers who have
been affected by similar problems and crimes shown in the
documentary.
• We will also include a narrative, where discuss how best to attempt to
prevent these things from happening again in the future, and how to
best keep people safe.
4. Dislikes
• In terms of crime documentaries shown by The BBC, we believe them
to be more generalised and focused on softer crimes.
• We think this is because they are shown before the watershed and
shown every single week, so they are a series.
• These programmes are used in chronological orders, showing the
crime and then outcome, rather then showing what happened and
how the crime was dealt with and then what they did.
• Furthermore, we believe The BBC show the emergency services in a
positive light, which we think is staged to an extent. Whereas Channel
4, show the harsh reality of crime, and when and why the justice
system at times fails.
