By allowing users to work with the tools they use today, we can address the "ECM Avoidance" issue. The presentation will review:

Increasing ECM User Adoption
Sharepoint, Office, & Outlook for Alfresco
2. What Keeps You Up at Night?
ECM AVOIDANCE COST & COMPLEXITY
ECM SHELFWARE
• Slow
• Where is My Content?
• Shared Drives
• Email
• Cloud Sites
• Failed Implementations
HIGH COST, LOW VALUE
• Maintain
• Upgrade
• SharePoint Bloat
SPRAWL
• Content Silos
• Data Risk
ANYTHING BUT…
3. What Does The Business & Users Really Want?
• Make it Easy, people can manage it and want to use it
• Content is exploding, our solutions scale and can be built upon
for future growth
• Adoption, Adoption, Adoption are the three most important
things in an ECM system
• ECM should save time and money
5. Sadly, It’s Not That Simple
REAL USE CASE
60K… 6000
2 YRS LATER 25,000+
6. RISKY & COSTLY MOVE TO THE CLOUD GIVE UP & USE SYNC & SHARE
• Better UI, same problems as Shared Drive
• Better to integrate with these services, than
depend on them
• Compliance & Governance Concerns
• Very Easy to Use
NO OPEN STANDARDS
What Are My Options Today?
NO ABILITY TO SCALE
7. Challenges Using SharePoint as Stand Alone ECM
PROVISIONING
COMPLIANCE
ARCHIVING
REPLICATION
• Lack of Advanced Site Creation
• Lack of Configuration
• Lack of Rule-based provisioning
• Lack of Automation (users won’t do it)
• Lack of Governance Controls
• Lack of Security Controls
• Lack of Site Archival
• Lack of Decommissioning Functionality

Sharepoint upgrade doesn't seems to have got any easier with
2013, and in fact things seemed to have got much worse.
Gartner Report "Sharepoint 2013"
Finally, for IT leaders considering migration to 2013, Microsoft
doesn't support upgrades that skip generations, adding to the
burden for users currently still on 2007, who might otherwise
consider a migration to 2013 if they did not have added
challenge of having to migrate through 2010 first. Inplace
migration to SharePoint 2013 is also not possible. Developers
must use the database attach method, which involves creating
a copy of the existing 2010 database and attaching it to a fresh
2013 environment, a more involved (but safer) process than
the in-place method that was available for earlier upgrades
9. But There is a Path Forward!
