Costume and makeup research
While filming ‘dead end’, we have stuck to the regular conventions of
the thriller/action adventure within costume and makeup.
Joe, the protagonist who acts as the victim in the film will wear a
navy suit and tie and carry a smart holdall. Suits give the character a
sense of authority and show that they have a place in society. Just
through wearing a suit they are instantly represented as having
authority. Joe will wear a suit in order to allow the audience to easily
identify him as the protagonist.
The antagonist’s (Josh, Sam and Mitch) however will wear jogging
bottoms and hoodies, this represents them as chavs who are very
streetwise. The hoodies will be worn in order to show that the gang
are used to spending time on the street and spend lots of time on
the street. The attire worn by the protagonist and antagonists will
allow the audience to draw a clear line between the two types of
character.
Due to our film genre being the same as the Bond films, we have
taken inspiration when it comes to costumes from the James Bond
films. We liked the idea that Bond as the protagonist wears a suit as
we felt it gives him an intellectual look and creates a sense of wealth,
this leads to the protagonist gaining trust of the audience.
