How Did Oprah Winfrey Impact Society
My topic is on how Oprah Winfrey has played a key role in modern American life, setting many cultural trends and promoting open–minded causes.
Through her talk shows and books, she has focused on many issues facing women but mainly African–American women. She has been an important
role model woman especially. The American culture is influenced by different views and are constantly evolving from the help of significant figures.
I will show how Oprah not only helps men and woman of America, but focuses on many topics that are usually shied away from in America that will
ultimately help society as a whole. A celebrity is seen as someone high in stature, wealthy, popular and has power in their voices.Oprah Winfrey is the

By breaking through cultural, geographical and barriers it is let known not to let your current situation but your heart dictate where you go in the
world. Her heart has always been focused on the less privilege people that need help in order to have a better lifestyle. "As Oprah's wealth and
influence have grown, so has her compassion. In 2000, Oprah's Angel Network began presenting a $100,000 "Use Your Life Award" to people who
helped improve the lives of others. According to the Chicago Sun–Times, Oprah has donated more than $50 million to charity, including 50 local
organizations such as the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Children's Memorial Hospital and the Chicago Academy of the Arts. Oprah's influence has
spread far and wide" (Kyra Kirkwood 1). Oprah's influence has spread far and wide. She has used her status and power to do more than just help
someone but change their lives forever. This the type of stuff that makes Oprah different and unique. She doesn't want to have children or be married
for the fact that Oprah see everyone as her child, that's how much this woman cares. She doesn't just talk about what she teaches, Oprah shows it
through her efforts and numerous programs. "The Oprah Winfrey Foundation she started was established to support the inspiration, empowerment,
education and well–being of women, children and families around

Argumentative Essay On White Trash
White Trash Bash
I strive for personal happiness in life. Some people would equate their happiness to money, personal possessions, or even success. While the standard
for being happy will vary based on personal preference, I have noticed that the people that surround my life can make a significant impact on my
overall happiness. For this reason, I have learned to avoid "white trash." Their actions do nothing to increase happiness in others' lives, in fact, in my
experience they have done more harm than good. The term "white trash" does not necessarily refer to a person who lives in a white. The stereotype
for "white trash" is typically Caucasian, dressing provocatively, and having poor hygiene. Furthermore, they are negligent parents, physically violent,
and alcoholics, and they should be avoided. By understanding the key signs through their appearance and actions, people can avoid them and hopefully
keep happiness and joy a part their lives.
White trash people all exhibit three main characteristics in their appearance. The first easily noticeable sign is their ethnicity. white trash almost
exclusively refers to Caucasian Americans. white trash is slang used in America to refer to lower income Caucasian families. This term derives from
"white trash" which came about in the 1830's. African American slaves would show an extensive amount of contempt towards white servants, thus
developing the slang term "white trash". Another easy way to spot white trash is their clothing. Due to the low income their clothes tend to be ill
fitting. Over the years, this has transformed into more revealing clothing for men and women. Men will wear jean shorts, crocs, and alcohol affiliated
baseball hats. In addition, they will wear a soiled a–line tank top, also known as a "wife beater", or no shirt at all. Women often wear tops showing
excessive cleavage, midriff, and lower back. It is easy to see a woman's brightly colored thong peeking out of their skirts, rising along their hips
creating what's called a "whale tail". Another important detail in identifying white trash is their poor physical hygiene. They will normally have greasy
hair, oily skin, terrible body odor, and disastrous teeth. Perhaps they don't see this as an

Talk Shows
TALK SHOWS The television talk show is, on the face of it, a rather strange institution. We pay people to talk for us. Like the soap opera, the talk show
is an invention of twentieth century broadcasting. It takes a very old form of communication, conversation, and transforms it into a low cost but highly
popular form of information and entertainment through the institutions, practices and technologies of television.
The talk show did not originate over night, at one time, or in one place. It developed out of forty years of television practice and antecedent talk
traditions from radio, Chatauqua, vaudeville and popular theater. In defining the talk show it is useful to distinguish between "television talk"

Successful talk show hosts like Mike Wallace, Johnny Carson, and Barbara Walters bridge generations of viewers. The longevity of these "super stars"
increases their impact on the forms and formats of television talk with which they are associated.
Television talk shows originally emerged out of two central traditions: news and entertainment. Over time hybrid forms developed that mixed news,
public affairs, and entertainment. These hybrid forms occupy a middle ground position between news and entertainment, though their hosts (Phil
Donahue, Oprah Winfrey, and Geraldo Rivera, for example) often got their training in journalism. Approximately a third of the major talk show hosts
listed at the end of the essay came out of news. The other two thirds came from entertainment (comedy in particular).
Within the journalistic tradition, the names Edward R. Murrow, Mike Wallace, Ted Koppel and Bill Moyers stand out. News talk hosts like
Murrow, Koppel, and Moyers do not have bands, sidekicks, or a studio audience. Their roles as talk show hosts are extensions of their roles as
reporters and news commentators. Their shows appear in evening when more adult and older aged viewers are watching. The morning host teams that
mix "happy talk" and information also generally come from the news background. This format was pioneered by NBC's Sylvester "Pat" Weaver and
host Dave

Popular Culture Affect Gender and Sexuality
Gender is a sociological factor which is a set of relationships, attributes, roles, beliefs and attitudes of human. On the other hand, sexuality can be
referred into two traits. First is Biological; second is Physiological. Biological trait is about the difference of sex organs, the production of estrogen or
testosterone. Physiological trait is about the difference of facial features, size of bones, shoulders, muscles, fatty issues. According to American
Psychological Association, gender and sexuality impacts and is impacted by cultural, political, legal, and philosophical aspects of life. As popular culture

Personal Narrative Essay : The Summer Night In The Last...
I remember it like it was yesterday, maybe because it was yesterday. No, I'm just kidding. It was more like this summer. Not this coming summer
but the last summer. And not the summer of the year 2016, but the one from this year, 2017. What happened that summer night? A lot. It was any
other typical summer day for me in the ole' Fritz household. I was getting bored doing things with Hallie, the dog, or by myself. I thought of a
brilliant idea, "I'll invite Kennedy over, it's been forever since I've seen her." (It really hadn't been very long since the last time I saw her, we just like to
hang out.) So I called her up and asked, "Hey, are you busy today? Because if not, you should come over to my house and spend the night or
something." She said, "No, I'm not busy. I have to ask if I can come but I'm sure she'll say yes. I probably have to clean my room first though, so it
might be a while." I told her that was fine and to swing by whenever she was done cleaning, and that was the end of it. I only had to wait an hour,
maybe two, before she arrived at my house. We were so excited to see each other because, actually, I have no idea why. I mean yes we're good friends,
but we saw each other a lot, and we talk, and text all the time. I don't know, we're weird like that I guess. We always get excited I guess. We were
almost like when you come home from a vacation and your dog goes crazy because they're happy to see you. Yeah, like that, but a little toned down

A Brief Note On The And Of The First Time Of My Job As A...
Miscellaneous to Microchips
As a child I was a straight A student. I was advanced for my age and was put in special learning groups for "gifted" students. I liked school and
wanted to get good grades. Somewhere along the way, around sixth or seventh grade, I quit caring about school, mostly because I never
understood what the point to it was or how it could help. I always had family members around me telling me to stay in school and do well so you
don't have to work hard laborious jobs your whole life. I obviously never listened and thought they were dumb nor did I want to listen. To me
school was a waste of time and I did not know why I was there. I had an experience a few years later in eleventh grade that changed my whole
outlook on school and life that excited me about the future for the first time in my job shadowing. In my careers class you had to pick three careers
you were somewhat interested in and do research on all three. I picked careers that all had to do with computers and how they worked. Then you had
to pick the one career you were most interested in and do a job shadowing at their work. I picked computer support specialist because my interest in
computers and my interest of tearing things apart and fixing them. I was very fortunate in picking this career because my best friend's dad was in
this same field, I contacted him and asked if there was anyone willing to have me come in to observe and interview him. I ended up job shadowing

The Significance of Australian Youth Culture and Radio
Today the world in which we live in can be seen as a vastly media integrated way of life. Whether it is film, television or advertising, these forms of
media constantly surround us, influencing and changing the way we live. But what about radio? Some say that radio is dying, that its use has
become useless, that it was only an aid of assistance during the early and mid 1900's. But the way I see it, I think that radio is more relevant and
significant today than it ever was, especially for the diverse Australian youth cultures. Their lifestyle, education, political views and social aspects
come under a large role due to what they listen to over the radio. So how do radio stations maintain and attract their listeners? What sort of impacts ...

Australian youths of different ethnicities are searching for more innovative and creative ways of sourcing and utilizing information in order to
exchange their culture and way of life with the wider community so that they are able to gain a sense of belonging. By broadcasting the news and issues
of a local community and the country of their origin – in their own language, it builds and strengthens new communities as well as establishing
confidence and providing the essential atmosphere for the growing Australian youth.
For many people, community radio broadcasting plays a significant role in their lives especially for those who come from country or rural areas. As
highlighted before, community broadcasting develops a sense of Australian identity, character and cultural diversity. Statistics show that the 9.5 million
people that tune in to community radio each month state that they value their local content and diverse local music that their community radio
produces for them. With regards to the Australian youth, community radio is of great importance as youths in rural areas are able to keep up to date
with current news as well as their local news as opposed to more urbanised youths where their news is constantly provided with other forms of media
during their everyday lives. Community radio gives everyone, not just youths, the right set of circumstances needed to keep up to date and involved

Summary Of ' Kill War '

Words Kill War
The picture portrays speaking out. Telling leaders to talk about the problems you have with each other instead of killing the innocent. Wars all over
the world are not being talked about enough. It's sad that we as people have simply became comfortable with people killing others simply because
they are doing something we do not like. We also don't act upon the killing of thousands of women and their children in other countries. An article
states that "talking more equals less fighting. Choose dialogue over death and destruction. That is a sentiment that we can all stand behind. It is not too
late to create a world where words kill wars." Women in Iran are seen as property. They have no rights. A young Iranian feminist stated that her and
many other women are against war and they should scream it loud and they shouldn't be afraid of being heard. Many of those women want children,
and want to know what it's like to be free. They also want to find jobs and be independent. The war and the law is hindering many of those things
from happening. The physical, sexual, and violent environment children are exposed to during war is devastating. It destroys their outlook on the
people that are supposed to be protecting them. Many children die or fall ill from the pollution from the war. Many doctors and nurses have been
killed or left the country. The children and adults who are sick or hurt has no

Short Story: I Have Eight Hours to Live
I had just learned that I had eight hours to live. How could this be?!! I was so upset. The anger that I had felt, eventually turned to sadness. Just the
thought of everything that I was leaving behind was unbearable. I was horribly hurt and afraid.
The remaining eighth hour and complete seventh hour, I spent contacting family members and telling them of my unfortunate news. My immediate
family, my husband D, my mom, dad AC, brother Ambi, and my two sisters, Addi and Theve were the first to hear the news. They immediately
stopped what they were doing and rushed over to the house. The conversation was sad and difficult for me because I did not want to tell them I was
leaving them, but I had to.
By the sixth hour, my mom had already contacted a pastor and he was at the house as well. We all cried together and prayed as a unit. Surprisingly,
my sisters were sad, but they were also strong with me. We all had to sit and talk to the children about what was going on. They could see and hear
everyone in the house, but no one had sat down to talk with them. I had also notified my best friend Nicole, she was so good with words to. I had
asked her to sit with us to explain to the kids. While we were trying to get the kids situated to talk, we saw it was going to be impossible with the
little ones. So we took the big kids only, Theo, Junior, Dajah, AnaRosa, Isaiah, TJ, Mikala, Janecia, and had a long talk.
By the fifth hour, my cousins arrived, Sandy, Gina, Shawnee, Mikey, Lex,

Oprah : The Top Rated Talk Show
In the fall of 1983, Oprah moved again, this time to Chicago, to host WLS–TV 's "A.M. Chicago," a half–hour morning talk show that was suffering
from perennially poor ratings. It was the beginning of big things for Winfrey.
"My first day in Chicago, September 4, 1983. I set foot in this city, and just walking down the street, it was like roots, like the motherland. I knew I
belonged here," she would later say.
Winfrey was an instant success as a talk show host. In a few short months after taking over, her show surpassed then–reigning talk–show king
"Donahue" to become the top–rated talk show in Chicago. Other Chicago luminaries noticed the rising star in their midst, including nationally
renowned film critic Roger Ebert, who helped Winfrey land her first deal to host a nationally syndicated talk show.
With the ink dry on September 's syndication deal, Winfrey's show was broadcast nationwide, expanded to a full hour and renamed "The Oprah Winfrey
Show." At the same time, Winfrey founded Harpo Productions ("Harpo" is "Oprah" spelled backwards), which would later branch out to include
Harpo Radio, Harpo Print and Harpo Films.
Now a national program, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" again trounced "Donahue," bringing in twice the national audience of her talk show rival.
To better capitalize on that success, Harpo Productions assumed complete ownership and total production responsibilities for "The Oprah Winfrey
Show" from Capitol Cities/ABC. With the 1988 deal, Harpo Productions

Why was I the one to get pulled? There were so many people at the party and I was the one to get interrogated? My luck. The officer sat me down at a

said " Hello Mr. Khalifa, I'm officer Marcus Hopson". I sat apprehensively thinking about what to say. "Okay well you already know what you're in
here for, so start talking" Hopson said. All I could do was look down. Once I decided to talk, I said "What are you wanting to hear from me?".

I thought for a second, and then said, "I didn't remember talking to her at all last night". He stood up and looked at me for a second. Staring at me,

friend Haley's. "Austin Sorrells was driving Haley Randolph home last night and they crashed into the median last night. This was reported at
12:45 last night. Austin bled out and Haley was rushed to the hospital in critical condition" Hopson explained. I asked "How do I have anything to
do with this?". "Chanel gave us your name and said that you brought the alcohol to the party" Hopson said as he was pulling another object out of
the envelope. He pulled out an iPhone. "This was Austin's phone, which had photos of the party. We scrolled through the photos and saw that you
were in some of them. Holding bottles of alcohol" He said sitting down, intently. He talked to me about how Chanel came to the station and called
me out. She walked into the station, Sunday morning, and told them about the party. She had convinced them that she was the nextdoor neighbor
and was complaining about a disturbance and underage drinking. The officers didn't question her about why she didn't call them while it was
going on because she dropped my name to pull up and talk to. He released me for the night and when I went to school the next day, I was avoided.
People looked at me like I was their worst enemy. Chanel's lie flowed throughout the school. Fast. I sat down in my first hour and when we were
taking notes, kids were whispering to each other about me. Even Mr. Comer seemed like he didn't want to be in my presence. Every time I raised my
hand, he walked to the other side of the room to help with another student. I just stayed quiet until lunch, which was when I saw Dizzy. I sat down next

Hill-Billy : Appalachia And Minority Discrimination In...
The phrase "Hill–billy"
When hearing someone described as hick, redneck or hilly Billy, it is hard to believe those word are technically ethnic slurs. Ethnic slurs, or phrases of
generalized ethnic indecency, often come up with the thought of minority discrimination. Minorities, are almost always at a disadvantage in society
since systems where been built for the majority, or common population, and it takes time and progressive mindsets to change that. But what happens
when the minority exists amongst the population of the majority. Appalachia is a very small representation of overall white population in America.
However, since it is a white population, the thought of ethnic slurs does not seem like something that would exist to label the group. But since the
term is a persona used to label certain people in the Country, it is derogatory. Even though some people may recognize words like Hill Billy orredneck
as not applying to Appalachia, but to the generalization of "White Trash," the origins are from the personas and ideals decoratively associated with the
people from Appalachia.
Other than being white, there is another major reason generalized personas arise specifically for Appalachia, and that is isolation. Unlike most ethnic
and cultural groups, Appalachians, are from and in Appalachia and only Appalachia. Of course, hillbilly is thrown around not always in direct
description of the group, but the persona associated with term is completely rooted in

Understand The Difference Between Wealthy And Poor...
Typically, us Americans categorize neighborhoods we see into two categories, which are wealthy and poor neighborhoods. After observing
families' income in wealthy neighborhoods compared to poor neighborhoods, they are drastically distinctive. Most families who have great
amounts of money generally live in a large house, while those who are classified as "poor" will be found in some unsafe areas. These homes have
different builds, exteriors may be maintained or may be filled with clutter, and the families inside these homes may express different wants than the
opposite class. Unfortunately, wealthy and poor people both fall under a stereotype. The rich are looked upon as snobby and prude, while the poor
are seen as lacking intelligence or they could abuse drugs and alcohol. However, I observed a "wealthy" and a "poor" neighborhood in the city of...

Livin' in the Trailerhood: Sterotypes of Living in a...
I have lived in the same trailer park my whole life. As a result I have had to deal with people treating me differently after they found out where I
lived. Many people jumped to the conclusion that I was poor. Although at times money has been tight, I would never classify myself as poor. My
family has always been able to provide for me. Other people assumed that my family must be living off of Welfare. I can also say that my family has
never received Welfare. Despite the fact that some people match those stereotypes doesn't mean that everybody should be lumped together with them. I
have met multiple people who also live in trailer parks, and most of them do not fall into the stereotypical categories associated with trailer parks.
People should not be judged based on where they live. The most common stereotype associated with people that live in trailer parks is that everybody
is poor. As I said before I would never classify my family as poor. Sometimes my parents wouldn't be able to afford the extra things we wanted, but
they always provided the necessities. Not being able to afford the brand new toys and games that us kids wanted doesn't mean that we were poor. It
just means that we didn't live above our income. Some people that live near me are older people who have to spend their money sparingly, because
they only get money once a month. Would they like to live in a house on some land? Of course they would. Is it a real possibility on their monthly
income? Not likely.

Personal Reflection
As I reread every piece of literature we have gone over, Connecticut, pine trees in back was the piece that I believed had a tone and genre that I
could replicate into my own words. I felt that piece was the best way for me to connect with my past and truly talk about it with reflection as a
maturing adult. This style of writing allowed me to open up about many of the events in my past and truly speak out in ways that I would never even
think about doing. Having a very accepting environment in class with close to no judgement also helped me know that my expressions and truths will
go as serious matters instead of ways to critique my past. Connecticut, pine trees in back was without a doubt the best piece of literature for me to
openly express my feelings about past impactful events.
As I began the introduction of my piece, I paused to think of a way to talk about my birth without copying Dubois so I simply said, "On a normal
February day" in order to create an original introduction. I also included both my parents having me in order to give credit to all the hard work it
takes to raise a child before and after birth. Like most people, my paragraph containing the very beginning of my is solely based on what I've been

New needs and tensions will arise in each area of life initiating one to seek new ways of adapting to these new found stressors. In return this forces
them to form different kinds of intimate relationships. This maturation helps forms one's personality (Kowalski, & Westen, 2002). "Relationships
formed during each stage of life serve as a prototype for interactions in later stages. For this reason, there exists a continuum of relationships formed
throughout a lifetime that shape and mold specific personality traits. Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget, and Lawrence Kohlberg, describe
development as a series of stages. A stage is a period in development in which people exhibit typical behavior patterns and establish particular
capacities" (Kowalski, & Westen, 2002). "The various stage theories share three assumptions: First people pass through stages in a specific order,
with each stage building on capacities developed in the previous stage, second stages most related to one's age, third development is discontinuous,
with qualitatively different capacities emerging in each stage" (Kowalski, & Westen, 2002). Heredity VS. Environment, otherwise known as the
nature vs. nurture debate. "Nature relates to the relative importance of an individual's innate qualities ("nature" in the sense of nativism or innatism) as

Oprah Winfrey : Successful Careers
Oprah Winfrey has helped many American television hosts have successful careers, as well as her own successful career. "Winfrey has helped these
television hosts launch successful careers (Dr. Phil, Rachel Ray, Dr. Oz)." said Dr. Daniels. Winfrey has been one of the only American women to
change a television show into an actual network. Oprah gained most of her popularity on January 2, 1984 on Phil Donahue low–rated morning talk show
which eventually changed her life. On September 8, 1986 Winfrey's very first episode was watched by the Chicago audience shutting down the
street on Michigan Avenue, as Oprah began to build her fame in February of 1993 "Oprah interviews Michael Jackson at his Neverland Ranch, and
an estimated 90 million people tune in." said Blake. This interview branched Oprah's popularity and has given her the ability to make many changes
in her personal life as well as others. Starting her very own network, book club, and television studio has made Winfrey the woman she is today by
helping other great people have successful careers as well. As Winfrey began to succeed she did not settle down, Winfrey decided to take her show
into something bigger and better creating her very own network. "Oprah Winfrey's media empire is about to get a lot bigger with the announcement of
a deal with discovery communication that will provide her with a cable channel." Said Lieberman. Oprah channel reached 70 million satellite
subscribers in 2009 which then led to 6 million

The 's A Dark Brown Dog, Now It 's Killing The Spider Essay
Speaker 2:First it's a dark brown dog, now it's killing the spider, what are you trying to do here?
[Overlapping talk]
Interviewer:So, what would you have done differently, if you could have done it over?
Jenny:I think maybe I would have typed up my notes and my process without doing a numbered outline. Then, have kids go through and pick, say we
wanted five most important steps, and grouped them in more of the thought process than just writing it down. For simplicity, they saw the model and it
went quickly, so I don't know if that would have been better or not.
Interviewer:Just a thought. What do you think Sara?
Sara:I agree with that, mostly because they were getting really stuck on that we could only have this amount of steps. When I was trying to ask them
to step back and look at the big picture and the whole text, they weren't really getting that either. Particularly in my fifth hour, because we already had
enough steps. Going through, when I think back to the modeling process that I did before with them, I had the role cards, and I used that to guide
which of these strategies am I using.
I almost was to start with commonly used writing strategies and have them identify which ones I am using, as I am working on this outline. I think we
have to go back even further with them to talk about those writing strategies, because we haven't really ever talked about anything besides outlining
before. Like, in terms of a structured lesson, I think.

My Service Learning Hours At Asarese Matters Community Center
This spring semester I had the privilege of completing my service learning hours at Asarese Matters Community Center. I chose to conduct my hours
of service at this site because I felt like I could relate to the kids that are experiencing a life of poverty with limited mobility opportunities. Most my
time spent there I interacted with a majority of the kids through basketball and competitive activities like billiards, ping pong and talking sports. While
observing relationships and interactions between staff and youth that attend the community center I noticed the important role that sport and education
played in the life of the children. Using my sociological imagination, I would like to explore the role of sport and the interactions and behaviors that
takes place during competitive situations, also the role of education and the kids perception on going to college and using sport and education as a
way of succeeding and escaping the concentrated poverty of the Buffalo communities. Using the lived experience that I encountered and knowledge
acquired in the past, I will try to piece together a connection and express how the macro level expectations of a community to prosper influences the
self esteem, behaviors and attitudes among social groups at the micro level here in the city of Buffalo and at Asarese–Matters community center.
Winning and Losing A majority of the kids families that attend Asarese are either part of the working poor or the underclass. Buffalo is

I Didn 't Have Much Friends?
Even though I didn't have much friends in kindergarten because of my bashfulness to make friends, I had a lot of fun with those friends at school.
My friends were only Anna, Jason, and Michael and they were the only friends that I have because they were the only ones that started a
conversation with me. I didn't have much friends because I was too nervous and lacked the courage to introduce myself to others . I enjoyed
hanging out with Anna, Jason, and Michael everyday at school. But one day when my mom came to pick me up from school, I noticed that my mom

was just thinking about how much I was going to miss the teachers and friends there. The year went past, and I tried to have as much as possible
with my friends before I leave the school. I really didn't want to transfer because I would have to struggle with making friends again. On the last day of
school, I waved and said goodbye to them as I was hiding my tears in my heart. As the summer goes by, it was finally the first day of school. My dad
drove me on the first day of school and he walked me inside my building to my classroom. The school was a lot bigger than the one I went to in
kindergarten. We were supposed to look for our class on the papers taped on the wall in the yard, so my dad walked me there. When I saw the yard, I
was really excited because the yard was twice as big as the one in my previous school, and there was a playground area with slide and monkey bars. I

You Just Don 't Understand By Deborah Tannen Essay
In Deborah Tannen's book You Just Don't Understand, she discusses themes such as power, conflict, and linguistic styles from childhood in chapters
seven through ten. Based on her research, one's experiences from early childhood to adulthood can affect their communication style due to the types of
conversations they had during their formative years. For example, Tannen suggests that conversational styles are different due to experiences where
conversations were either constant in the home or conversations were limited and rarely occurred. She writes "It may be that one person grew up in a
home where conversation was constant and all offers of food overlapped ongoing talk, while another grew up in a home where talk was sparse and
good was offered only when there was a lull in the conversation," (p. 192).
Tannen notes that some conversations involve overlap where multiple people talk over each other. Some may consider this to be interrupting, but
others may not. Tannen provides an example with a dinner table conversation that occurred among Alice Greenwood's three children and her son's
friend Mark. When the children told a joke, Mark did not understand nor did he laugh. Tannen writes that the daughters often overlapped in
conversation and were at ease doing it. However, Mark did not like being interrupted. This connects with Tannen's analysis of different communication
styles in same sex and opposite sex relationships. Although Greenwood's children attempted to include Mark

Descriptive Essay About Patila
The Marta train stations have been one of the most entertaining parts of the day. I chose to write about the Marta train ride, and what happens on
the stations because I ride Marta about twice a day, besides weekends, and since I spend a decent amount of time traveling with Marta I have
noticed plenty of things. I noticed things from how people communicate to people not caring about the rules, and other things. The idea of Marta,
in my head, was based off of television shows about other trains and subways. Television shows tend to make subways and trains seem dirty, tight
spaced, and have rude and disgusting passengers. There always seem to be the people who are loud and disrespects other people's personal space. My
idea of Marta was pretty far off from what Marta is really like; however, my ideas were not completely off. I observed Marta by observing people who
were waiting at the station for a train, and by observing people on the train. The train ride observation was from Doraville to Five Point, which is
eleven stations total. Marta is a very interesting place to use for travels, but the ride is different in the mornings compared to the afternoons; however,
Marta during the morning versus Marta in the afternoon are not completely different. For starters, the way people interact with one another are
different depending on the time of day you ride Marta. During the morning time, people who ride Marta always seem to be very quiet and do not

The Importance Of Maintaining And Manufacturing Relationships
Maintaining and manufacturing relationships is one of the most stressful undertakings a human can experience. Humans crave relationships no matter
how introverted; still wanting some form of companionship whether it be face–to–face or through technology. The only way to have a relationship is to
have communication with others that start the stages of developing the relationship. Without communication in some form, we could never truly have
a relationship or bond with another human being; causing that craving for companionship and relationships to never be filled and major physical and
psychological damage to oneself. A common problem in communication or even starting a relationship is that most people report to be shy or have the
fear of speaking to others fear of judgment or just anxiety takes over.
I myself have this problem and find it extremely difficult to make or build a relationship because of my inability to muster up to talk to others.
When I was in high school, every year on the first day of school I would sit in the back of the class so I could avoid the converse of others and
when we had to introduce ourselves to the class I would get really nervous and stumble over my words. When others talk to me in a public place
that I don't know. I typically don't talk and try to leave as fast as I can because I feel if I just stand there and ignore the person the whole time they are
talking to me it will be ruder than just leaving. During parties that I rarely

What Does A Motivational Speech So Emotionally Changing?...
Most everyone has been on a sports team, or has a concept of what happens before a game in higher age athletics. Perhaps you don't have any
concept of either, but just really enjoy listening to others speak to help you feel motivated to do something. That was my exact genre, motivational
speeches, specifically in athletics. These two are different in their own ways, but their message is always the same. What exactly makes a
motivational speech so emotionally changing? Is there any kind of rhyme or reason to how they are words are spoken or is it just a natural talent of
the speaker to be truly motivational?
Reading Wardle's piece on "Writing in New Workplaces" made me think of common workplaces like coffee shops and big businesses, however,
depending on who you talk to, playing sports is a workplace, and we all have to be able to communicate. In this specific case I'm talking about
motivation, but there are plenty of other types of communication that occur when playing sports. If a sports team is a new atmosphere for you, you
probably won't be the one standing up in front of the whole team trying to get them to all come together for a common cause. You'd most likely just
leave that to the guys that have been here longer or to

Summary Of Disco Rice And Other Trash Talk
In the article "Disco Rice, and Other Trash Talk" written by Ian Urbina, the sanitation workers developed their own slang. Many people who work
as garbage men cannot understand one persons language, or way of speaking. Using slang as a language is easier for all of the workers to
communicate as a group. In addition to making it easier to communicate there are also several other reasons why New York workers use slang
terms. First of all, the garbage men are working in the hot summer. In paragraph four it says "It makes disgusting items not so disgusting." Using
other words like mongo and Disco rice is looking at the trash in a different way. They would no longer have to picture loads of debris. using different

The Similarities of Writting Style in Walt Whitman’s “Song...
Throughout time there have been many writers and poets. And with these many writers and poets their work has been different in what they write
about. And their work has made an impact on society and on others. And yet in this time some writers have influenced the work of others. Walt
Whitman and Allen Ginsberg who are separated by a time gap have a kind of connection. Both of these amazing writers wrote pieces of work that are
considered a catalyst for the Beat Generation. These two courageous writers went against the norm and wrote about something different. Although they
are different they both explored new topics. Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself" and Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" have similarities right from the first page.
The first thing that they both have in common is the structure of their work. Both "Howl" and "Song of Myself" have long lines and they keep like
that. Having these long lines makes the story flow. Doing this in these two works made it have some kind of steady rhythm so it was easy to read.
Also another similarity Whitman had on Ginsberg was at the beginning of each sentence. In "Howl" the beginning would always start with "who". In
"Song of Myself" the first word of the line is "Nor." This would be happening quite often. Ginsberg and Whitman both wrote about topics against what
other writers would talk about. Whitman would write about sexuality/the human body and it scared off some of his readers. For example in "Song of
Myself" on page 28–29:

Trash–talking is part of many sports where the team indulges in verbal sparring or verbal jousting with their opponents to gain a psychological

This is taken very seriously. Press conference, interviews and anything involving printed media or internet which connects globally is considered public

Trash–talk is limited to playing ground and it is better that way for various reasons. It will take the focus away from a great game like baseball and
nobody wants that.
Team reprimanded the player who tweeted disparaging comments on twitter about opponent is totally justified. It was done outside the playing area
and in the public domain like twitter. Twitter is not a battle field or sparing arena. Players have the responsibility to conduct themselves with dignity

Oprah Winfrey : A Big Impact On Today 's Society Essay
In today's day and age one of the most influential women and people is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah has had a big impact on today's society and played a
huge role in advancing it. Oprah Winfrey is a talk show host, producer, actress and philanthropist who are widely respected around the world. By
becoming one of the biggest names in talk show history Oprah has paved the way for others and became one of the more popular women in talk
show history. Her willingness to help others and to be sure others are guided in positive light shows how much passion she has to see the greater good
in others. Oprah's biggest role comes from helping to pursue the advancement of young women and girls. Oprah has taken the time to see to it that
young women are out of poverty and opening up a brand new school for underprivileged females to see to it that they have the same opportunity that
children in America and other parts of the world have. Being that African– Americans, let alone women were not seen as marketable, Oprah helped to
change this dynamic early in her career by using her platform in communication to open doors for other people. Winfrey's work over a number of
years is the single most evident reason why she has been able to be successful in the field of mass communication. Oprah is one of the most influential
women of our time because of how well she is able to contribute to the human rights of women and advancing them in today's society.

Each phase creates a new generation of stigmas and slurs, and there are many. Isenberg does a great job of going through the different phases and the
idea of "white trash" especially as it pertains to the name and variations of the name. For example, the term "white trash" is a concept invented by the
landed class in the South, to refer to their "inferiors". Southerners who fancied themselves to be in a privileged class. Some of the other names they
have been given across centuries are waste people, lubbers,

How Did Oprah Winfrey Impact Society

  • 1. How Did Oprah Winfrey Impact Society My topic is on how Oprah Winfrey has played a key role in modern American life, setting many cultural trends and promoting open–minded causes. Through her talk shows and books, she has focused on many issues facing women but mainly African–American women. She has been an important role model woman especially. The American culture is influenced by different views and are constantly evolving from the help of significant figures. I will show how Oprah not only helps men and woman of America, but focuses on many topics that are usually shied away from in America that will ultimately help society as a whole. A celebrity is seen as someone high in stature, wealthy, popular and has power in their voices.Oprah Winfrey is the true definition of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By breaking through cultural, geographical and barriers it is let known not to let your current situation but your heart dictate where you go in the world. Her heart has always been focused on the less privilege people that need help in order to have a better lifestyle. "As Oprah's wealth and influence have grown, so has her compassion. In 2000, Oprah's Angel Network began presenting a $100,000 "Use Your Life Award" to people who helped improve the lives of others. According to the Chicago Sun–Times, Oprah has donated more than $50 million to charity, including 50 local organizations such as the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Children's Memorial Hospital and the Chicago Academy of the Arts. Oprah's influence has spread far and wide" (Kyra Kirkwood 1). Oprah's influence has spread far and wide. She has used her status and power to do more than just help someone but change their lives forever. This the type of stuff that makes Oprah different and unique. She doesn't want to have children or be married for the fact that Oprah see everyone as her child, that's how much this woman cares. She doesn't just talk about what she teaches, Oprah shows it through her efforts and numerous programs. "The Oprah Winfrey Foundation she started was established to support the inspiration, empowerment, education and well–being of women, children and families around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Argumentative Essay On White Trash White Trash Bash I strive for personal happiness in life. Some people would equate their happiness to money, personal possessions, or even success. While the standard for being happy will vary based on personal preference, I have noticed that the people that surround my life can make a significant impact on my overall happiness. For this reason, I have learned to avoid "white trash." Their actions do nothing to increase happiness in others' lives, in fact, in my experience they have done more harm than good. The term "white trash" does not necessarily refer to a person who lives in a white. The stereotype for "white trash" is typically Caucasian, dressing provocatively, and having poor hygiene. Furthermore, they are negligent parents, physically violent, and alcoholics, and they should be avoided. By understanding the key signs through their appearance and actions, people can avoid them and hopefully keep happiness and joy a part their lives. White trash people all exhibit three main characteristics in their appearance. The first easily noticeable sign is their ethnicity. white trash almost exclusively refers to Caucasian Americans. white trash is slang used in America to refer to lower income Caucasian families. This term derives from "white trash" which came about in the 1830's. African American slaves would show an extensive amount of contempt towards white servants, thus developing the slang term "white trash". Another easy way to spot white trash is their clothing. Due to the low income their clothes tend to be ill fitting. Over the years, this has transformed into more revealing clothing for men and women. Men will wear jean shorts, crocs, and alcohol affiliated baseball hats. In addition, they will wear a soiled a–line tank top, also known as a "wife beater", or no shirt at all. Women often wear tops showing excessive cleavage, midriff, and lower back. It is easy to see a woman's brightly colored thong peeking out of their skirts, rising along their hips creating what's called a "whale tail". Another important detail in identifying white trash is their poor physical hygiene. They will normally have greasy hair, oily skin, terrible body odor, and disastrous teeth. Perhaps they don't see this as an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Talk Shows TALK SHOWS The television talk show is, on the face of it, a rather strange institution. We pay people to talk for us. Like the soap opera, the talk show is an invention of twentieth century broadcasting. It takes a very old form of communication, conversation, and transforms it into a low cost but highly popular form of information and entertainment through the institutions, practices and technologies of television. The talk show did not originate over night, at one time, or in one place. It developed out of forty years of television practice and antecedent talk traditions from radio, Chatauqua, vaudeville and popular theater. In defining the talk show it is useful to distinguish between "television talk" (unscripted presentational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Successful talk show hosts like Mike Wallace, Johnny Carson, and Barbara Walters bridge generations of viewers. The longevity of these "super stars" increases their impact on the forms and formats of television talk with which they are associated. Television talk shows originally emerged out of two central traditions: news and entertainment. Over time hybrid forms developed that mixed news, public affairs, and entertainment. These hybrid forms occupy a middle ground position between news and entertainment, though their hosts (Phil Donahue, Oprah Winfrey, and Geraldo Rivera, for example) often got their training in journalism. Approximately a third of the major talk show hosts listed at the end of the essay came out of news. The other two thirds came from entertainment (comedy in particular). Within the journalistic tradition, the names Edward R. Murrow, Mike Wallace, Ted Koppel and Bill Moyers stand out. News talk hosts like Murrow, Koppel, and Moyers do not have bands, sidekicks, or a studio audience. Their roles as talk show hosts are extensions of their roles as reporters and news commentators. Their shows appear in evening when more adult and older aged viewers are watching. The morning host teams that mix "happy talk" and information also generally come from the news background. This format was pioneered by NBC's Sylvester "Pat" Weaver and host Dave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Personal Narrative Essay : The Summer Night In The Last... I remember it like it was yesterday, maybe because it was yesterday. No, I'm just kidding. It was more like this summer. Not this coming summer but the last summer. And not the summer of the year 2016, but the one from this year, 2017. What happened that summer night? A lot. It was any other typical summer day for me in the ole' Fritz household. I was getting bored doing things with Hallie, the dog, or by myself. I thought of a brilliant idea, "I'll invite Kennedy over, it's been forever since I've seen her." (It really hadn't been very long since the last time I saw her, we just like to hang out.) So I called her up and asked, "Hey, are you busy today? Because if not, you should come over to my house and spend the night or something." She said, "No, I'm not busy. I have to ask if I can come but I'm sure she'll say yes. I probably have to clean my room first though, so it might be a while." I told her that was fine and to swing by whenever she was done cleaning, and that was the end of it. I only had to wait an hour, maybe two, before she arrived at my house. We were so excited to see each other because, actually, I have no idea why. I mean yes we're good friends, but we saw each other a lot, and we talk, and text all the time. I don't know, we're weird like that I guess. We always get excited I guess. We were almost like when you come home from a vacation and your dog goes crazy because they're happy to see you. I was advanced for my age and was put in special learning groups for "gifted" students. I liked school and wanted to get good grades. Somewhere along the way, around sixth or seventh grade, I quit caring about school, mostly because I never understood what the point to it was or how it could help. I always had family members around me telling me to stay in school and do well so you don't have to work hard laborious jobs your whole life. I obviously never listened and thought they were dumb nor did I want to listen. To me school was a waste of time and I did not know why I was there. I had an experience a few years later in eleventh grade that changed my whole outlook on school and life that excited me about the future for the first time in my job shadowing. In my careers class you had to pick three careers you were somewhat interested in and do research on all three. I picked careers that all had to do with computers and how they worked. Then you had to pick the one career you were most interested in and do a job shadowing at their work. I picked computer support specialist because my interest in computers and my interest of tearing things apart and fixing them. • 9. The Significance of Australian Youth Culture and Radio Today the world in which we live in can be seen as a vastly media integrated way of life. Whether it is film, television or advertising, these forms of media constantly surround us, influencing and changing the way we live. But what about radio? Some say that radio is dying, that its use has become useless, that it was only an aid of assistance during the early and mid 1900's. But the way I see it, I think that radio is more relevant and significant today than it ever was, especially for the diverse Australian youth cultures. Their lifestyle, education, political views and social aspects come under a large role due to what they listen to over the radio. So how do radio stations maintain and attract their listeners? What sort of impacts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Australian youths of different ethnicities are searching for more innovative and creative ways of sourcing and utilizing information in order to exchange their culture and way of life with the wider community so that they are able to gain a sense of belonging. By broadcasting the news and issues of a local community and the country of their origin – in their own language, it builds and strengthens new communities as well as establishing confidence and providing the essential atmosphere for the growing Australian youth. For many people, community radio broadcasting plays a significant role in their lives especially for those who come from country or rural areas. As highlighted before, community broadcasting develops a sense of Australian identity, character and cultural diversity. Statistics show that the 9.5 million people that tune in to community radio each month state that they value their local content and diverse local music that their community radio produces for them. With regards to the Australian youth, community radio is of great importance as youths in rural areas are able to keep up to date with current news as well as their local news as opposed to more urbanised youths where their news is constantly provided with other forms of media during their everyday lives. Community radio gives everyone, not just youths, the right set of circumstances needed to keep up to date and involved with the rest of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Summary Of ' Kill War ' Ayana Jakes English 1010 Essay 2 Draft 2 Sabrina Blaum Sept. 22, 2016 Words Kill War The picture portrays speaking out. Telling leaders to talk about the problems you have with each other instead of killing the innocent. Wars all over the world are not being talked about enough. It's sad that we as people have simply became comfortable with people killing others simply because they are doing something we do not like. We also don't act upon the killing of thousands of women and their children in other countries. An article states that "talking more equals less fighting. Choose dialogue over death and destruction. That is a sentiment that we can all stand behind. It is not too late to create a world where words kill wars." Women in Iran are seen as property. They have no rights. A young Iranian feminist stated that her and many other women are against war and they should scream it loud and they shouldn't be afraid of being heard. Many of those women want children, and want to know what it's like to be free. They also want to find jobs and be independent. The war and the law is hindering many of those things from happening. The physical, sexual, and violent environment children are exposed to during war is devastating. It destroys their outlook on the people that are supposed to be protecting them. • 11. Short Story: I Have Eight Hours to Live I had just learned that I had eight hours to live. How could this be?!! I was so upset. The anger that I had felt, eventually turned to sadness. Just the thought of everything that I was leaving behind was unbearable. I was horribly hurt and afraid. The remaining eighth hour and complete seventh hour, I spent contacting family members and telling them of my unfortunate news. My immediate family, my husband D, my mom, dad AC, brother Ambi, and my two sisters, Addi and Theve were the first to hear the news. They immediately stopped what they were doing and rushed over to the house. The conversation was sad and difficult for me because I did not want to tell them I was leaving them, but I had to. By the sixth hour, my mom had already contacted a pastor and he was at the house as well. We all cried together and prayed as a unit. Surprisingly, my sisters were sad, but they were also strong with me. We all had to sit and talk to the children about what was going on. They could see and hear everyone in the house, but no one had sat down to talk with them. I had also notified my best friend Nicole, she was so good with words to. I had asked her to sit with us to explain to the kids. While we were trying to get the kids situated to talk, we saw it was going to be impossible with the little ones. So we took the big kids only, Theo, Junior, Dajah, AnaRosa, Isaiah, TJ, Mikala, Janecia, and had a long talk. By the fifth hour, my cousins arrived, Sandy, Gina, Shawnee, Mikey, Lex, ... • 12. Oprah : The Top Rated Talk Show In the fall of 1983, Oprah moved again, this time to Chicago, to host WLS–TV 's "A.M. Chicago," a half–hour morning talk show that was suffering from perennially poor ratings. It was the beginning of big things for Winfrey. "My first day in Chicago, September 4, 1983. I set foot in this city, and just walking down the street, it was like roots, like the motherland. I knew I belonged here," she would later say. Winfrey was an instant success as a talk show host. In a few short months after taking over, her show surpassed then–reigning talk–show king "Donahue" to become the top–rated talk show in Chicago. Other Chicago luminaries noticed the rising star in their midst, including nationally renowned film critic Roger Ebert, who helped Winfrey land her first deal to host a nationally syndicated talk show. With the ink dry on September 's syndication deal, Winfrey's show was broadcast nationwide, expanded to a full hour and renamed "The Oprah Winfrey Show." At the same time, Winfrey founded Harpo Productions ("Harpo" is "Oprah" spelled backwards), which would later branch out to include Harpo Radio, Harpo Print and Harpo Films. Now a national program, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" again trounced "Donahue," bringing in twice the national audience of her talk show rival. To better capitalize on that success, Harpo Productions assumed complete ownership and total production responsibilities for "The Oprah Winfrey Show" from Capitol Cities/ABC. "Austin Sorrells was driving Haley Randolph home last night and they crashed into the median last night. This was reported at 12:45 last night. Austin bled out and Haley was rushed to the hospital in critical condition" Hopson explained. I asked "How do I have anything to do with this?". "Chanel gave us your name and said that you brought the alcohol to the party" Hopson said as he was pulling another object out of the envelope. He pulled out an iPhone. "This was Austin's phone, which had photos of the party. We scrolled through the photos and saw that you were in some of them. Holding bottles of alcohol" He said sitting down, intently. He talked to me about how Chanel came to the station and called me out. She walked into the station, Sunday morning, and told them about the party. She had convinced them that she was the nextdoor neighbor and was complaining about a disturbance and underage drinking. The officers didn't question her about why she didn't call them while it was going on because she dropped my name to pull up and talk to. The phrase "Hill–billy" When hearing someone described as hick, redneck or hilly Billy, it is hard to believe those word are technically ethnic slurs. Ethnic slurs, or phrases of generalized ethnic indecency, often come up with the thought of minority discrimination. Minorities, are almost always at a disadvantage in society since systems where been built for the majority, or common population, and it takes time and progressive mindsets to change that. But what happens when the minority exists amongst the population of the majority. Appalachia is a very small representation of overall white population in America. However, since it is a white population, the thought of ethnic slurs does not seem like something that would exist to label the group. But since the term is a persona used to label certain people in the Country, it is derogatory. Even though some people may recognize words like Hill Billy orredneck as not applying to Appalachia, but to the generalization of "White Trash," the origins are from the personas and ideals decoratively associated with the people from Appalachia. Other than being white, there is another major reason generalized personas arise specifically for Appalachia, and that is isolation. • 17. Understand The Difference Between Wealthy And Poor... Typically, us Americans categorize neighborhoods we see into two categories, which are wealthy and poor neighborhoods. After observing families' income in wealthy neighborhoods compared to poor neighborhoods, they are drastically distinctive. Most families who have great amounts of money generally live in a large house, while those who are classified as "poor" will be found in some unsafe areas. These homes have different builds, exteriors may be maintained or may be filled with clutter, and the families inside these homes may express different wants than the opposite class. Unfortunately, wealthy and poor people both fall under a stereotype. The rich are looked upon as snobby and prude, while the poor are seen as lacking intelligence or they could abuse drugs and alcohol. • 18. Livin' in the Trailerhood: Sterotypes of Living in a... I have lived in the same trailer park my whole life. As a result I have had to deal with people treating me differently after they found out where I lived. Many people jumped to the conclusion that I was poor. Although at times money has been tight, I would never classify myself as poor. My family has always been able to provide for me. Other people assumed that my family must be living off of Welfare. I can also say that my family has never received Welfare. Despite the fact that some people match those stereotypes doesn't mean that everybody should be lumped together with them. I have met multiple people who also live in trailer parks, and most of them do not fall into the stereotypical categories associated with trailer parks. People should not be judged based on where they live. The most common stereotype associated with people that live in trailer parks is that everybody is poor. As I said before I would never classify my family as poor. Sometimes my parents wouldn't be able to afford the extra things we wanted, but they always provided the necessities. Not being able to afford the brand new toys and games that us kids wanted doesn't mean that we were poor. It just means that we didn't live above our income. Some people that live near me are older people who have to spend their money sparingly, because they only get money once a month. Would they like to live in a house on some land? Of course they would. Is it a real possibility on their monthly income? Not likely. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This style of writing allowed me to open up about many of the events in my past and truly speak out in ways that I would never even think about doing. Having a very accepting environment in class with close to no judgement also helped me know that my expressions and truths will go as serious matters instead of ways to critique my past. • 27. You Just Don 't Understand By Deborah Tannen Essay In Deborah Tannen's book You Just Don't Understand, she discusses themes such as power, conflict, and linguistic styles from childhood in chapters seven through ten. Based on her research, one's experiences from early childhood to adulthood can affect their communication style due to the types of conversations they had during their formative years. For example, Tannen suggests that conversational styles are different due to experiences where conversations were either constant in the home or conversations were limited and rarely occurred. She writes "It may be that one person grew up in a home where conversation was constant and all offers of food overlapped ongoing talk, while another grew up in a home where talk was sparse and good was offered only when there was a lull in the conversation," (p. 192). Tannen notes that some conversations involve overlap where multiple people talk over each other. Some may consider this to be interrupting, but others may not. Tannen provides an example with a dinner table conversation that occurred among Alice Greenwood's three children and her son's friend Mark. When the children told a joke, Mark did not understand nor did he laugh. Tannen writes that the daughters often overlapped in conversation and were at ease doing it. However, Mark did not like being interrupted. This connects with Tannen's analysis of different communication styles in same sex and opposite sex relationships. • 30. Descriptive Essay About Patila The Marta train stations have been one of the most entertaining parts of the day. I chose to write about the Marta train ride, and what happens on the stations because I ride Marta about twice a day, besides weekends, and since I spend a decent amount of time traveling with Marta I have noticed plenty of things. I noticed things from how people communicate to people not caring about the rules, and other things. The idea of Marta, in my head, was based off of television shows about other trains and subways. Television shows tend to make subways and trains seem dirty, tight spaced, and have rude and disgusting passengers. There always seem to be the people who are loud and disrespects other people's personal space. My idea of Marta was pretty far off from what Marta is really like; however, my ideas were not completely off. I observed Marta by observing people who were waiting at the station for a train, and by observing people on the train. The train ride observation was from Doraville to Five Point, which is eleven stations total. Marta is a very interesting place to use for travels, but the ride is different in the mornings compared to the afternoons; however, Marta during the morning versus Marta in the afternoon are not completely different. For starters, the way people interact with one another are different depending on the time of day you ride Marta. During the morning time, people who ride Marta always seem to be very quiet and do not really talk to one another at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Importance Of Maintaining And Manufacturing Relationships Maintaining and manufacturing relationships is one of the most stressful undertakings a human can experience. Humans crave relationships no matter how introverted; still wanting some form of companionship whether it be face–to–face or through technology. The only way to have a relationship is to have communication with others that start the stages of developing the relationship. Without communication in some form, we could never truly have a relationship or bond with another human being; causing that craving for companionship and relationships to never be filled and major physical and psychological damage to oneself. A common problem in communication or even starting a relationship is that most people report to be shy or have the fear of speaking to others fear of judgment or just anxiety takes over. I myself have this problem and find it extremely difficult to make or build a relationship because of my inability to muster up to talk to others. When I was in high school, every year on the first day of school I would sit in the back of the class so I could avoid the converse of others and when we had to introduce ourselves to the class I would get really nervous and stumble over my words. When others talk to me in a public place that I don't know. I typically don't talk and try to leave as fast as I can because I feel if I just stand there and ignore the person the whole time they are talking to me it will be ruder than just leaving. During parties that I rarely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. What Does A Motivational Speech So Emotionally Changing?... Most everyone has been on a sports team, or has a concept of what happens before a game in higher age athletics. Perhaps you don't have any concept of either, but just really enjoy listening to others speak to help you feel motivated to do something. That was my exact genre, motivational speeches, specifically in athletics. These two are different in their own ways, but their message is always the same. What exactly makes a motivational speech so emotionally changing? Is there any kind of rhyme or reason to how they are words are spoken or is it just a natural talent of the speaker to be truly motivational? Reading Wardle's piece on "Writing in New Workplaces" made me think of common workplaces like coffee shops and big businesses, however, depending on who you talk to, playing sports is a workplace, and we all have to be able to communicate. In this specific case I'm talking about motivation, but there are plenty of other types of communication that occur when playing sports. If a sports team is a new atmosphere for you, you probably won't be the one standing up in front of the whole team trying to get them to all come together for a common cause. You'd most likely just leave that to the guys that have been here longer or to Strenkert 2 the coaches. Coaches don't quite get the same luxury unfortunately. If you're a coach coming to a new work place you have to be ready to inspire your team to go out and put forth their best effort. Chances are though that coaches will ... • 33. Summary Of Disco Rice And Other Trash Talk In the article "Disco Rice, and Other Trash Talk" written by Ian Urbina, the sanitation workers developed their own slang. Many people who work as garbage men cannot understand one persons language, or way of speaking. Using slang as a language is easier for all of the workers to communicate as a group. In addition to making it easier to communicate there are also several other reasons why New York workers use slang terms. First of all, the garbage men are working in the hot summer. In paragraph four it says "It makes disgusting items not so disgusting." Using other words like mongo and Disco rice is looking at the trash in a different way. They would no longer have to picture loads of debris. using different words can also be a distraction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No one ever sits with me, no one eve talks to me, except for four people. The school bullies, and I am their main target. "Hey Kyle, how's that apple", as he takes a bite of it and throws it on the ground. "Well Ryan if you wouldn't throw it on the ground maybe I could tell", I told him. "Hey don't get smart with me!", as he threw the rest of my lunch on the ground and picked me up by my shirt. "Ryan put Kyle down or you get to spend the rest of the week in detention!", principal Sugi snapped. "You got lucky nerd, I will see you after school today," he whispered to me after he put me down. The rest of the day was not much different until I saw two kids like me getting beat up by Ryan and his buds. At first I did not want to do anything and just walk by like a loser. But then I thought again and maybe I could actually get some friends. So I walked over to them. "Ryan I think you have the wrong guy", I said. He turned around and said, "So you want the beating." He then walked over to me and threw a right hook hitting me square in the temple. The they pulled me up and just started hitting me in every spot possible. By the time I think they had left from a teacher or a cop I felt like I was half dead. The two other guys that we getting picked on where still there when I woke up. It seemed like I was in a room. And with these many writers and poets their work has been different in what they write about. And their work has made an impact on society and on others. And yet in this time some writers have influenced the work of others. Walt Whitman and Allen Ginsberg who are separated by a time gap have a kind of connection. Both of these amazing writers wrote pieces of work that are considered a catalyst for the Beat Generation. These two courageous writers went against the norm and wrote about something different. Although they are different they both explored new topics. Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself" and Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" have similarities right from the first page. The first thing that they both have in common is the structure of their work. Both "Howl" and "Song of Myself" have long lines and they keep like that. Having these long lines makes the story flow. Doing this in these two works made it have some kind of steady rhythm so it was easy to read. Also another similarity Whitman had on Ginsberg was at the beginning of each sentence. In "Howl" the beginning would always start with "who". In "Song of Myself" the first word of the line is "Nor." This would be happening quite often. Ginsberg and Whitman both wrote about topics against what other writers would talk about. Whitman would write about sexuality/the human body and it scared off some of his readers. Isenberg, introduces the poor white class as unfortunate victims of circumstance, having been born in the lowest ranks of British society. The British colonial system imposed a class hierarchy based on wealth, pedigree, and land ownership and these were the vagrant people Britain wanted to get rid of. Isenberg starts off from the 16th Century with the exploration of the New World, where the British wanted to dump their "waste" people which consisted of the poor, indigent, and criminals who would be shipped off and be the labor force for the new colonies. She takes us through the various generations of the poor whites leading up to the 21st–century present–day cultivation of trailer trash in the reality shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Each phase creates a new generation of stigmas and slurs, and there are many. Isenberg does a great job of going through the different phases and the idea of "white trash" especially as it pertains to the name and variations of the name. For example, the term "white trash" is a concept invented by the landed class in the South, to refer to their "inferiors". Southerners who fancied themselves to be in a privileged class.
