Lithuania
■ In the 1230s, Lithuania was united by Mindaugas, founding
the Kingdom of Lithuania. In 1569, Lithuania and Poland
formed a voluntary two-state personal union, the Polish–
LithuanianCommonwealth. in the 18th century, the
Russian Empire annexed most of Lithuania's territory.
Lithuania'sAct of Independence was signed on 16
February 1918, founding the modern Republic of
Lithuania. InWorldWar II, Lithuania lost it’s freedom again
to soviets and later to germans.Towards the end of the
war in 1944, the Soviet Union reoccupied Lithuania.On 11
March 1990, Lithuania passed theAct of the Re-
Establishment of the State of Lithuania, becoming the first
Soviet republic to proclaim its independence.
