Beloved Family! It has been a joy partaking together for this 21 Days of Consecration. My heart rejoices over the personal testimonies received from
many of you resulting from this 21 Days of Consecration. WOW! You may ask, what now? What's next? Remember consecration is not just a few
days of being set apart, then going back to the same things that served as a distraction for deeper intimacy with God but rather consecration is a
lifestyle. We are God's consecrated people cleansed by the blood ofJesus! You are at a new place now, a new level and let NOTHING bring you down!
Live to the Glory of God! Hold dear and near everything that Holy Spirit has spoken and revealed to you during this time. Godly habits that were

John Steinbeck's Cannery Row
Cannery Row: Living Heaven on Earth
Cannery Row (1945), a novel written by John Steinbeck, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, is a book without much of a plot. Instead, it's a novel
where setting, atmosphere and most importantly character, take precedence. Steinbeck creates a colorful array of characters struggling to understand
their own unique places in the world.
The story is set in the early 20th century, immediately following the Depression and World War II. The characters live in Monterey, California amid the
jumble of the sardine fisheries, the "Palace Flophouses", Lee Chong's grocery, Dora's whorehouse, and Doc's Biological Lab. Throughout the book,
Steinbeck has the uncanny ability to combine his characters' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Steinbeck frequently interrupts the flow of what could be considered the main story line, by throwing short segments into the writing thus introducing
a new character (usually not directly connected to the primary story) or referencing some sort of cruel occurrence of real life. For example, in chapter
twelve Steinbeck writes about the death of Josh Billings, an author who had come to Monterey. After Billings' death, the doctor dumps his remains into
a gulch, where a little boy and his dog later find them. The little boy, not knowing any better, takes the author's remains to use them for fishing. Upon
hearing this, the town quickly collects all his insides and puts them in a leaden box, which was placed in Josh Billings' coffin.
The purpose of inserting this anecdote was to show the camaraderie and respect of the people in Cannery Row. At one point in the story, Steinbeck
writes, "Josh Billings was a great man, a great writer. He had honored Monterey by dying there and he had been degraded" (64–65). Steinbeck
demonstrates that by creating an atmosphere of noble intentions and good feelings for one another, everyone is able to live in a world of peace even
when there are bad times.
Steinbeck spends the greater part of the book writing about a party that Mac and the boys plan to throw for Doc. The boys believe that since Doc has
always been such a nice guy that

Holy And Beloved Research Paper
Holy & Beloved:
There are more blessings in praise and worship than just praying all day for our needs.
The hours that we spent in prayer asking from God, if such is spent in praise and worshipping chances are we will stand a better chance of receiving
from our Heavenly Father.
Praise and worship can be defined as giving God the gratitude for what He has done, what He is currently doing, and what He will do in our lives.
In the atmosphere of praise and worship, the Holy Spirit abounds. Chains and shackles are broken, and blessings move around.
1 Tim. 4:–4 "For every creature of God is good and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving."
Remember Paul and Silas were singing praises unto The Lord when the Heaven moved for their

THE MAJOR FIGURES IN THE BEGINNING OF THE PENTECOSTAL MOVEMENT IN AMERICA We now come to the section devoted to the
major pioneers in the beginning of Pentecostalism in America. The first person we want to discuss is Charles Fox Parham. "He is the man generally
recognized as the formulation of Pentecostal doctrine and the theological founder of the movement." Parham held to the theological argument that
tongues are always the initial evidence of a person receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He also taught the necessity of being baptized with the
Holy Spirit as the only way to escape the great tribulation. In October 1900 Parham opened a bible school in Topeka, Kansas and in December he led
his students through a study of the tenets of the Holiness movement. The students came to study the book of Acts and during the study Parham asked
them to find scriptural evidence of the baptism with the Holy Spirit. It was out of this study that led Parham to the conclusion this was the biblical
way a person received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Parham moved to Houston Texas and started a church and bible school. It was at this school
where a student name William Joseph Seymour, a black man attended the training sessions that Parham taught. Because of the laws of segregation at
the time Seymour was forced to sit in the hallway and listen to the teachings of Parham. Seymour desired

Examples Of Mercy And Compassion
There are so many ways on how to practice mercy and compassion. There are three simple steps given to us by Pope Francis during his apostolic
visit here in the Philippines on how to become ministers of mercy and compassion. First is to rest with God. Second is to renew one's self. Third is
to love others. Pope Francis tells us that "To be an ambassador for Christ means to invite everyone to a renewed personal encounter with Christ."
(Evangelii Gaudium). A renewed personal encounter with Christ is witnessed when we rest with God. Rest is very crucial to everyone's life. But some
people seldom have time to rest due to hectic schedules and for some students are overflowing homeworks. Rest is very important that even God rested
during the 7th... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And also there are people that we love so much but doesn't return our love back. Real love is about loving God, and letting Him love us back.
Another way of practicing mercy and compassion is to love others. Loving others unlike the renewal of one's self focuses on giving love to other
people. Loving others is bringing Jesus to others. Loving others is not just about giving them what they need, it's about teaching them how to provide
for themselves. Let us practice mercy and compassion by resting with God, renewing ourselves, and loving others. During the season of lent we reflect
on the passion, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lent is a source of mercy and compassion in a way that we practice fasting and
abstinence and as much as possible drink water. Water has a chemical formula of H2O which means, H for Honesty, H for Humility, for being humble
enough to admit your mistakes, and O for Obedience, for obeying the people in authority like our parents. These 3 are the sources of mercy and
compassion. That's why we should be honest, humble and obedient. Always drink H20 on the season of Lent. The author spent hisholy week in the
Philippines.

World Religions Report: The Pentecostal Faith (ROUGH DRAFT)
The purpose of this paper is to give a summary of the Pentecostal Faith in the words of a woman who is both relatively newly sober and newly
spiritual. Angela Harper is a fellow Alcoholics Anonymous member that I have known for almost three years now. I chose this denomination because
I have never known very much about the Pentecostal faith, aside from the more obvious characteristics, as manifested by the women of that faith in
their dress and decorum. I was very pleased to have taken part in a magical conversation about the power of God's Grace and the way it ... Show more

She did point out, however, that when Jesus Christ came, in was no longer necessary to follow the Letter of the Law in order to experience God's
Grace. Not only that, she says, but that her congregation understands and accepts that God sees and loves us in all of our ugliness, so there is
really no reason to try and dress up for church jus for the benefit of other people. She pointed out that there are some female members who do still
hold to the old way of dress, but that is most likely because that is the way they were raised and that is all they know. By the same token, it is
important to remember that she is representing Jesus and her Church in everything she says and does, so while it may not be necessary to dress in
long skirts and dresses and completely forego cosmetics, it is important that she always dress appropriately.
Angela says her favorite aspect of church is the music and worship. She says every Sunday, there is a time of worship just prior to the sermon and
that sometimes, the preacher will dedicate the entire service to the playing of music and worship. However, Wednesdays are always dedicated to
Bible Study and the opportunity to learn more about God's Word and how to apply it in her everyday life.
Although the devotions that she uses in her religious life aren't specific to the Pentecostal Church, she did say that she has begun a discipleship, in
which she reads certain devotional books that are suggested to her

The Religious Event I Chose Essay
The religious event I chose was the Walk to Emmaus. This is a seventy–two hour course on Christianity. It takes place at Settle United Methodist
Church started at 7:00 pm on Thursday and ended on Sunday at 6:00 pm. Once I arrive a lady meets me at the door and says "what road are you
on, on your faith journey." I stop for a minute to think and reply "I really don't know at this point. I have been dealing with a lot these past few
months. I have questioned my faith, and at times even felt abandoned." She grabs my hand and says, "So let us get you registered then."
Following registration there is an introduction to explain what will take place the next few days along with an orientation. "Welcome everyone"
the lady begins. She continues to explain that in the next three days, that Emmaus will teach us to inspire, challenge, and equip us for Christian
action in our homes, community, and work. There will be no cell phones, television, or internet. Finally that night we are told there will be an
evening prayer and then silence to reflect until morning. Once I am settled in an elderly lady comes and sits beside me. I did not see this lady earlier
in the group. She says to me "all your questions will be answered." I look at her and say "All of them, really? How does He have all the time for me,
with everyone else's prayers needing answered also?" She smiles and walks away. I lay down to try to sleep, but I can't I am too worried about

Essay On The Tabernacle
Chapter 7
"The Tabernacle of the Old Testament" The words tabernacle and temple can be confusing; let me in a simple way explain the difference. Firstly the
tabernacle is the English translation of the Hebrew word ЧћЦґЧ©ЧЃЦ°Ч›ЦјЦёЧџ "mishkan", which simply means residence or dwelling place.
According to the Hebrew Bible this was a portable dwelling place for the presence of God, from the time of the Exodus to the conquering of the
Promise Land (Canaan). In contrast the temple is the English translation of the Hebrew word Ч”ЦµЧ™Ч›ЦёЧњ "heykal", meaning a large public
building. Unlike the tabernacle, the temple was stationary and also called the "palace of Jehovah". It was an elaborately ordained holy place where the
people congregated to worship God.
I will focus this chapter on the original tabernacle, which was God's idea, initiative, design and plan constructed by Moses. ... Show more content on

In the building of the tabernacle the people came together in obedience to the Word of God given through Moses. I will not go into the specific
measurements of the tabernacle, but I will say its total square area was 7,500sq.ft. I will explore the three compartments of the tabernacle, the contents
that are within them, and also the connection between the tabernacle and its relevance to worship in Moses' time and how it is symbolic of today's
worship.
There are three compartments within the tabernacle: the Outer Court where the brazen altar and the washbasin are, then walking through a veiled
curtain was the Holy Place (also known as the inner court) where the menorah, the table of showbread and the altar of incense was placed, and finally
the Holy of Holies where the ark of the covenant was found.

The Holiday's of Suriname
Suriname is a small country located on the northern coast of South America. The people of Suriname take their holidays and other celebrations very
seriously. Suriname celebrates many of the same holidays as the rest of the world, but also celebrates many of their own holidays. Phagwah Day is a
very popular Hindu holiday, celebrated in Suriname. This holiday is celebrated on the last full moon of the lunar month, known as Phalguna.
Phalguna is the twelfth month on the Hindu calendar, the same calendar that governs the Hindu religious life. Phagwah Day is celebrated all over the
country at festivals and parties. Phagwah Day marks the beginning of spring in Suriname, and is known in Suriname as the festival of color. The
people, who go the Phagwah festivals, wear the color white to show that they are ready to celebrate and get dirty. Today, Hinduism is one of the main
religions in Suriname, and at one point was the most common religion. This may be a key factor in why Phagwah Day is so popular in Suriname.
Although Phagwah Day is a very popular holiday, the people of Suriname celebrate even larger holidays. Boxing Day is the holiday that is
celebrated the day after Christmas by the adults in Suriname. Boxing Day is a holiday in which the employees of a company are given the day off
and receive a gift from their boss. Boxing Day is celebrated in many of the commonwealth countries around the world. Boxing Day is said to be a
European holiday that dated back to the Middle Ages.

Satire : Humor And Satire
Humour and satire are two concepts that are both wide ranging and diverse, from dark, to light hearted, with each producing a different effect. Humour
in the main, is something that is used to please the audience, its function is to invoke laughter amongst its audience. Satire is used to create a comical
critical view of the subject at hand, this can range from a light hearted comical way, to a judgemental way, with each style giving the text a different
meaning, however this does not mean that satire cannot be humorous, which can evident in the use of parody and irony within texts. Within literature
both concepts play an important role to how the text is viewed, humour can include word play, grammatical jokes, to even inside jokes with the author
and reader, and with satire, including that of irony and parody, with each style and type delivering humour in its own unique way. These differing
styles of humour can be found in a variety of forms including Jasper Forde's The Eyre Affair (2001), with its silly atmosphere, word play and
grammar jokes, and the use of light hearted satire and parody to brighten up the text, and Julian Barnes A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters
(1989), where there is a more serious atmosphere, with a more critical, satirical eye on history and characters, as well as using irony to achieve its
comical effect, and the position of the world. Each text is humorous and satirical in its own right, and with each author using different techniques to

How Does Jasper Fforde 's The Eyre Affair Testify?
How does Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair testify to the importance of reading in the formation of one's self–identity? Many aspects contribute to the
formation of a person's self–identity. Whether it be their surroundings, their culture, their language, or even other's personal identities, they all shape
one's perception of the world, the self–imposed rules surrounding them, and where they believe they belong within it. This world is encompassed with
stories, and they contribute to the fabrication of everything ever known. It is these stories and histories that surround all things that play a
comprehensive role in the formation of one's identity. Jasper Fforde, in his novel The Eyre Affair, demonstrates and testifies to this through both ...

The effect and influence that BrontГ«'s Jane Eyre has on its audience is profound, and this is emulated in Thursday. It is evident early in the text that
Thursday's childhood experiences and exposure with the characters and universe of Jane Eyre has caused her to, somewhat subconsciously, embody the
character of Jane that she discovered within the pages of the novel. Thursday's self–identity is molded and formed so much by the novel that the
character of Thursday herself, can be almost directly transposed with Jane. Through the author's use of intertextuality, Fforde is able to depict what
would be perceived as a modern day, contemporary Jane Eyre, through the character of Thursday Next. Within the first exposure that Thursday directly
has to the story of Jane Eyre, the effect of BrontГ«'s protagonist on the nine–year–old Thursday is unmistakable. Immediately, Thursday sees herself in
the character and her beliefs surrounding her own self–image are visible, saying she "had realised not long ago that [she]. . . was no beauty. . . and had
seen how the more attractive children gained favour more easily." (Fforde 66), however, she finds somewhat of a role model within Jane Eyre,
expressing that "in that young woman I could see how those principles could be inverted. I felt myself stand more upright and clench my jaw in
subconscious mimicry of her pose." (Fforde 66). This mimicry of Jane Eyre, even through the subtlety of the apery of her pose,

Compare And Contrast Buddhism And Christianity
Buddhism and Christianity are both prominent religions in our world today. There are over billions of individuals across the globe who take part in
the everyday rituals and practices of these two ethical practices. However, what's so intriguing about these religions is how incompatible they genuinely
are. In Buddhism, its religious beliefs are centered around the teachings of Siddhartha Buddha. Through the works of Buddha, he was able to discover a
way to put an end to the painful cycle of rebirth, death , and reincarnation. He learned that through extreme meditation and resentment from pleasures,
you will be able to end your cycle of suffering by attaining Nirvana(enlightenment) But, in Christianity, it revolves around the teachings and miracles of
Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the anointed son of God who came down from heaven to redeem us of our sins. It was through his miraculous works that
allowed us to be saved and have salvation in heaven with our heavenly father. In order to get to this spiritual kingdom, Christians believe that by
following in the footsteps of Jesus, we will one day be righteously granted with the gift to live out the rest of our lives in eternal paradise with God
himself. Nevertheless, although there is a considerable amount of difference between these religions, there are still numerous similarities. With the
assistance of Smart's Seven Dimensions of Religion, these similarities and difference can be vividly explained. Through the works

Personal Narrative: Doing Nothing And Being Still
I though it would be interesting to Google Be Still and see the results from the worlds perspective. One of the first results was a video clip from the

nor am I recommending it. I am sure it is filled with eastern and new age mysticism, however the short sentence spoken in this clip was fascinating.
The scene depicts a teacher giving instruction to his student and says, "Doing nothing and Being Still are two very different things." That really struck

There is a 100% sure fire guaranteed way to have intimacy with the Father, and Jesus gave us the secret. "Your Father who is in the secret place"
he is already there... we just have to join him. The moment we get to the secret place (quiet time) whatever you call it, we are immediately in the
present of God. These verses are also implying that we need to remove distraction, be intentional, be consistent, and set aside this time as holy.
Several years ago, Peter Lord came to SCC and he explained how he stopped people from interrupting his quiet time at home. People calling would
not take it seriously if Peter's wife told them he was praying and having his quiet time. They wanted her to still interrupt that time. After many issues
with this, Peter, who lives on the East Coast of Florida, named his office Miami. From that point forward, when people called, his wife could say, "He's

Anointing of the Sick gives grace for the state into which people enter through sickness. Through the sacrament a gift of the Holy Spirit is given, that

Several sick persons may be anointed within the rite, especially if the celebration takes place in a church or hospital. The celebration may also take
place during a Catholic Mass.
[edit]Relationship with the "Last Rites"
Anointing of the Sick is closely associated with, and often administered during the rituals known as the Last Rites. However, the term "Last Rites" is
not equivalent to "Anointing of the Sick", since it refers also to two other distinct rites: Sacrament of Penance and Eucharist, the last of which is known
as "Viaticum" (Latin:"provision for the journey") when administered to the dying. The normal order of administration of the rites is: first Penance (if
the dying person is physically unable to confess, absolution is given conditionally on the existence of contrition), then Anointing, then Viaticum.
Of the Last Rites, only a priest or bishop can administer the Sacraments of Penance and Anointing of the Sick. In the absence of a priest these
sacraments cannot be administered, but a lay person may give a dying person Holy Communion, which in this case is "Viaticum, the Last Sacrament of
the Christian".[8][14]

My First Memory Of A Young Girl
My earliest memory of anything connected to Jesus was at the age of 8, my mum bought me a series of books called Alice in Bibleland, which tell the

and a rich source of comfort.
Around this time, I would stay with my grandparents on the weekends. Sometimes my grandmother (whom I simply call Nanny) would take me and

She would regularly invite me to church and I would normally offer up a very vague excuse. Catching on to my lack of interest, she warned that the
devil could be trying to hinder me from coming to the truth. I found her boldness offensive and cut all contact.
At the age of 17 my dad became a Christian. I specifically remember changing the 'religious views' section on my Facebook account to: "I respect all
religions", subtly saying to my dad, that unlike him I believed there were many ways to God, if God did indeed exist.
A few months after this, I began the process of applying to university. Since I was getting older I thought I might attempt to 'do things properly'. It
was 'proper' to be a Christian and it was proper to endure church, even if it was boring. Now this is clear evidence that I was darkened in
understanding, without and without Christ, but God was being exceedingly patient with my folly.
At the age of 18 I received an offer to attend Bath Spa University to study Drama Studies and Creative Writing. I signed up to the Christian Union at

again, my response was, 'What's that?' All in all I didn't enjoy the evening and planned to never return.

A Better Understanding Of Free Will
Jesus with two complete and separate natures, fully man in every way except for original sin, and Jesus Divine one with God the father and the Holy
Spirit. We are created with a desire in our hearts to be drawn to the father and to do his will. We have the stain of original sin on our hearts since the fall.
Jesus has free will, his free will is not quite the same as ours, we are weak due to sin and Christ free from sin is not tempered by sin. The purpose of
this paper is to have a better understanding of free will and to help us to have a deeper and closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

been like this, and always will be. The significance of "sun" and "rain" in the fourth verse could be that they both are not under man's control; they
humble us. Blake could be saying that if the world were not under man's control, and if the poor people were free from oppression, poverty would not
exist. Poverty is the result of man's own selfishness.
In "The Chimney Sweeper" and "Holy Thursday" there are many recurring symbols and themes including the callous attitude of parents to children. In
"The Chimney Sweeper" the children are referred to as "little black things". "Little" emphasises the isolation and vulnerability of the child. The child
is described as a "black thing among the snow". The "snow" could represent innocence and purity. The second line has an alliterative "w" sound with

The Sacred Space And Sacred Spaces Forged By The Divine
Since their creation, humans have sought to find meaning from the mundane existence of mortality. This quest for answers has motivated many
to seek out the divine and sacred spaces forged by the divine. Biblical scholar and historian Mircea Eliade argues that, "man becomes aware of the
sacred because it manifests itself [and] to designate the act of manifestations of the sacred [is the] proposed term hierophany" (Eliade 1959: 11).
In other words, a hierophany exists when the divine chooses to reveal himself, by defining a space or object as sacred through the divine's
presence. After a hierophany occurs, the chosen object or space is deemed an axis mundi. Eliade defines axis mundi as, "a universal pillar which at
once connects and supports heaven and earth and whose base is fixed in the world below" (Eliade 1959: 36). Using a comparative analysis of biblical
texts and scholarly articles, this paper will discuss how a sacred space, specifically Jerusalem, manifests itself through God's choosing. Therefore
Jerusalem is the holy dwelling place of the divine, because God chose it through his application of multiple hierophanies and his establishment of
axes mundi within the city's walls. Jerusalem as a sacred dwelling place is reflected though its similarities to the Garden of Eden, where God created
the first human beings on earth. In Genesis 2, "God had planted a garden in the east, [and] a river watering the garden flowed from Eden, there it was

12 Minor Prophets Of The Old Testament
One of the 12 minor prophets of the Old Testament, Haggai, played an essential role in the rebuilding of the temple of the Lord. Although we are
not given the specific details about when it is written or who wrote the book of Haggai, it is often assumed that Haggai himself wrote it. Scholars
also presume that it was written around 520 B.C. due to the specifics of the time period given in the book itself. It is a rather short book, only
consisting of two chapters, and exact dates are given as to when the Lord spoke to Haggai regarding the rebuilding of the temple. For example,
Haggai opens up by saying that the Lord first spoke to Haggai on the first day of the sixth month of the rule of Darius. The messages from the Lord
to Haggai were directed to the governor, Zerubbabel, the high priest, Joshua,a and sometimes to all the people of Judah. These messages usually focus
on the apathy of the people to rebuild the temple of the Lord.
The people of God during The Book of Haggai are avoiding rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. The first temple was built by Solomon, the son of David
. David initially wanted to build the temple, but God gave the task to Solomon. The Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar marched into Jerusalem and
destroyed this first temple of God. The temple was to be rebuilt, but it was being avoided largely during the time of Haggai. Consequently, God spoke
to Haggai and had him relay messages to his people. God started by asking the people how they live in their

Language. A big part of everyone's life since birth, and for me one of the biggest adjustments I had to face at the age of six. Until the age of six I
lived in the Dominican Republic, my homeland. I cherished this country like the holy grail and I could never Imagine leaving it behind. Until then,
the only language I would speak was Spanish, the language I was raised on. I was very shy as a young kid, I didn't talk as much as I would now, I
didn't really interact with a lot of people besides my close friends, which I did everything with at the time. It was great that I could easily communicate
with them through Spanish, this would all change when I had to move to the United States. I had to learn English in order to be a successful as a young
kid here. Some kids would take years to learn English, some kids weren't even interested at all, but I knew that I needed to learn it as efficiently as I
could, I was not all that excited to learn a new language. I was already used to my first language and was afraid of failure when it came to learning
english. However, just one teacher changed the way I viewed learning English and helped me enjoy the learning curves of a new language. When I
was six, I moved from the Dominican Republic to the United States. What a life changing move that was. I had been studying English just a bit when I
lived back in my motherland, but I honestly never took it seriously. It was just one of those things I did on Thursdays, nothing less nothing

Gender Roles In Monty Python And The Holy Grail
Monty Python and the Holy Grail, directed by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, tells the story of King Arthur and he and his knight's quest for the
Holy Grail. The writing and directing of the movie shows the problems of society. Monty Python and the Holy Grail uses satirical techniques to
expose gender roles and greed at the expense of others. "The Black knight" exposes how often now and in history gender roles affect society. While it
can be displayed in multiple places in the movie, it is most evident here. The scene shows King Arthur encounter a knight keen on fighting. But when
king arthur begins chopping off the knights limbs, he is not hurt at all it seems. He responds simply " 'Tis but a flesh wound". When Arthur chops off
all of the knights limbs of the knight and he is left just a head... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dirty outfits as well as rolling around in the mud. In addition to exaggeration, parody of a trash truck is utilized in this scene. Before the sick man gets

Saint Anthony : The Life Of St. Anthony
St. Anthony was born in Lisbon in 1195 and was baptized "Ferdinand." His parents were of nobility. Some writers of the fifteenth century posited
that his father was Martin Bouillon, a descendant of the famous Godfrey de Bouillon, commander of the First Crusade; and his mother, Theresa
Tavejra, was a descendant of Froila I, fourth king of Asturia. However, this genealogy is unproven. Nevertheless, his parents were faithful and
sought to hand their faith onto their son. He also was privileged to receive his early education at the cathedral school of Lisbon. At the age of 15,
Ferdinand joined the Canons Regular of St. Augustine in Lisbon. Two years later, he transferred to the monastery in Coimbra to avoid the
distractions from frequent visits of relatives and friends. During this time, he studied diligently and, being gifted with an excellent memory, he
attained an excellent knowledge of theology, sacred Scripture and the Church fathers. In 1220, the five bodies of the first Franciscan Martyrs, who
were martyred in Morocco at the hands of the Moslems, were returned to Portugal. They were brought to the Church of Santa Croce in Coimbra for
burial where Ferdinand was stationed. Moved by their witness of faith in suffering martyrdom, Ferdinand also desired to preach the gospel to the
Moslems and even give his own life for our Lord. To pursue this desire, he left the Augustinians and joined the Order of Friars Minor, the Franciscans,
and took the name "Anthony." St. Anthony

The music was indeed freeing, revitalizing, and refreshing. It evoked powerful emotions which is hard to express. There is no language I may write
that will effectively communicate how liberating the music made me feel. But, if I had to try, I must say I was mostly impressed how the music
became the conduit where I could experience God's peace and presence. My body, mind and soul connection to the music encoded a deep anointing on
my spirit. The music involved a combined shift of body–jerking pulses with rise and fall intensity. Which created an emotional roller coaster for me.
One minute my body was twisting and jerking to earsplitting rock & roll and the next minute I was immersed in a near trance–inducing atmosphere in
which the music toned down to a more mystical sensation that moved me to tears.
The Weakness of this Contemporary Worship I believe my biggest critique with this style of worship is that I question if music is enough. Does music
make true transformation in the way worship shapes our affections, values, perceptions and beliefs? Sure, good music add to the experience of
worship and it may enhance someone's spiritual walk. But, does it build a true sustaining relationship with God or with the people of God? Thus, it is
my belief that music only functions as background, mostly on the surface and not real

The Cathedral of Saint Francis de Sales
From St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City to the Cathedral of Notre–Dame in France, architects have designed some of the most beautiful Churches in

tourists of these Churches seem to fail to go "behind the scenes" and appreciate all the decision making and planning used to create these magnificent

Baptism will make them one of the men that Catholicism has caught, or rather, has taught. The confessionals, also known as reconciliation rooms,
are areas where one can perform the Sacrament of Penance, also known as confession. These are located in the back of the Cathedral so that the
confessor may confess their sins in a secluded room where they feel private and comfortable. A cry room is located in the back of the Cathedral. It
is for families that have newly born babies. If the parents were to bring their babies to Cathedral they would most likely cry during the Mass, and it
will interrupt the Mass. Therefore, the cry room is for families who still want to go to church but do not want to interrupt the Holy mass. The cry
room has speakers in it that are connected to the priest's microphone so that those inside the room will be able to follow and hear the Mass.
The "Adoration Chapel" is a term that is broadly used to designate the practically uninterrupted adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The Adoration

Christ’s Resurrection Foretold and Witnessed
I suppose, since I became a Christian (born again July 31, 1975), I have heard a lot of different opinions concerning different areas and events of the
Bible. Of all the topics and points of interest, none has intrigued me as much as the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of my Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ. As you read this study there is one main point that all Christians will agree on. It may not be the day of the week or the hour of the day Jesus
died, but we will all agree to the fact that Jesus did arise from the dead and is currently at the right hand of God the Father. You might be a religious
person, yet not believe Jesus arose from the dead. That belief would not negate you from being religious, but it would negate a profession ... Show more

It shall be a Sabbath of Rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever."
Just as the tenth day of the seventh month comes on different days of the week, and the tenth day is known as Sabbath, it stands to reason that there
isn't just one Sabbath in every week. Just as the seventh month and tenth day is to be the day of atonement, (a Sabbath of Rest) and it may fall on
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or whatever day of the week, there is still a seventh day of the week (Saturday) Sabbath in that same week.
It was such a Holy day, a Sabbath day, approaching when Jesus was crucified. (John 19:31, KJV). "The Jews therefore, because it was the
preparation, that the bodies shall not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, (for that Sabbath day was a high day), besought Pilate that their legs
might be broken, and that they might be taken away." (KJV). Therefore it stands to reason there were two Sabbath's in the week of crucifixion: 1) the
high day Sabbath, 2) the seventh day of the week, Saturday. With this in mind, it would be very possible for Jesus to have been Crucified prior to the

Good Friday and Lent
All About Lent
Q: What is Lent?
A:Historically, Lent is the forty day period before Easter, excluding Sundays, it began on Ash Wednesday and ended on Holy Saturday (the day before
Easter Sunday). In recent years, this has been modified so that it now ends with evening Mass on Holy Thursday, to prepare the way for Triduum.
Q: Why are Sundays excluded from the reckoning of the forty days?
A: Because Sunday is the day on which Christ arose, making it an inappropriate day to fast and mourn our sins. On Sunday we must celebrate
Christ's resurrection for our salvation. It is Friday on which we commemorate his death for our sins. The Sundays of the year are days of celebration
and the Fridays of the year are days of penance.
Q: Why are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the rest of the year Catholics in this country are permitted to use a different act of penance on Friday in place of abstinence, though all
Fridays are days of penance on which we are required to do something expressing sorrow for our sins, just as Sundays are holy days on which we are
required to worship and celebrate God's great gift of salvation.
Q: Why are acts of repentance appropriate at this time of year?
A: Because it is the time leading up to the commemoration of Our Lord's death for our sins and the commemoration of his resurrection for our
salvation. It is thus especially appropriate to mourn the sins for which he died. Human have an innate psychological need to mourn tragedies, and
our sins are tragedies of the greatest sort. Due to our fallen nature humans also have a need to have set times in which to engage in behavior (which
is why we have Sundays as a set time to rest and worship, since we would otherwise be likely to forget to devote sufficient time to rest and worship),
it is appropriate to have set times of repentance. Lent is one of those set times.
Q: What are appropriate activities for ordinary days during Lent?
A: Giving up something we enjoy for Lent, doing of physical or spiritual acts of mercy for others, prayer, fasting, abstinence, going to confession, and
other acts expressing repentance in general.
Q: Is the custom of giving up something for Lent mandatory?
A: No. However, it is a salutary custom, and

William Blake's The Chimney-Sweeper, Holy Thursday...
Compare and Contrast William Blake's The Chimney–Sweeper, Holy Thursday (Innocence) and London
I am going to compare and contrast three of William Blake poems, where he shows his feelings about the way people treat children: The
Chimney–Sweeper, Holy Thursday (Innocence) and London.
The Chimney–Sweeper is about a child who sweeps chimneys. William
Blake sets this poem in the winter. The children worked in the cold.
Blake says, "A little black thing among the snow," "The little black thing," Is the child who is dirty from cleaning the chimneys who stands out in
the snow. He also looks like a black mask on the landscape. Like a dirty stain. "Crying weep, weep in the notes of woe!" Blake hears them crying a

"They think, they have done me no injury," But they have. The adults have behaved as though nothing was wrong, and continued to go church,
praising god, priest and king. Blake's last line is his comment on roles of the church and government, who he considers have equally badly, by
allowing defenceless children to do their kind of job and made the children's life a misery. "Who have made up a heaven of our misery" (paradox) and
yet these adults seem able to continue their lives and forget the dilemma of the children.
In the poem "London" William Blake makes a political statement about
London.
"I wondered throu' each charter'd street" he is leisurely walks through the streets of London. "Charter'd" is to be on the map. Blake is making an attack
on the establishment, he is blaming the government for the fact that people living in London at this time have been worn down by the system, making
them weak, burnt out and powerless. "Marks of weakness marks of woe"
In verse two.
"In every cry of every man,
In every infant's cry of fear,
In every voice, in every ban,
Mind–forg'd manacles I hear"
There is repetition, shows that they are suffering. Blake is explaining how every body is crying because of their life style, even though there still
working because there are poorly paid and families were big. They are trapped in manacles. People's

The Sacred And The Profane
The city of Jerusalem has been recognized as the holy city throughout the history of three religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. During the time
of Judaism, Biblical writers presented Jerusalem as the most sacred space, the center of the world, and the city of the Lord. A leading interpreter of
religious texts, Mircea Eliade, in his book The Sacred and The Profane, defined several religious experiences with specific terminologies, such as
hierophany, which means the sign of sacredness, and axis mundi, which is the center of the world. These terminologies will help us in interpreting how
the biblical writers promote Jerusalem as the holy city. In the Hebrew Bible Genesis 1–3, 22, 2 Samuel 6–8, 1 King 6–8, the writers reveal Jerusalem ...

A hierophany, according to Eliade, is "an irruption of the sacred that results in detaching a territory from the surrounding cosmic milieu and
making it qualitatively different" (Eliade 1987, 26). In other words, a hierophany is a sign that reveals the sacredness of a place (27). When a
sacred place reveals itself in a hierophany, an opening, either upward to heaven or downward to the underworld, has also been created in the center
of the world. The opening is called as the axis mundi, and it enables the communication between the divine and the people on the earth (36). The
axis mundi is usually expressed by different images, like a pillar, a ladder or a mountain, etc (37). There are more than one axis mundi. A country, a
city, a sanctuary, and an altar are all axis mundi and all represent the center of the world concurrently. This can be understood by thinking that these
sacred places are reproducing the universe on the "microcosmic scale" (43) and they all equally represent an imago mundi, which means a "square
constructed from a central point" (45). Only by living in the center of the world, can a religious man find the satisfaction of communicating with the
divine world. Therefore, "every construction or fabrication has the cosmogony as paradigmatic model" (45), which means that every construction
represent a micro cosmos, an imago mundi. The terms found by Eliade will be very useful when interpreting how Jerusalem is depicted in the

The Role Of Jesus In The Old Covenant
Many people don't appreciate change. They prefer to stay in their normal way of life, and enjoy their routine. Unfortunately, life loves to throw
curveballs and change is inevitable. Many people have trouble accepting a new (way) of things and they cling to the old methods as long as they
can. When Jesus came to earth to die for everyone's sins, many Jewish people had struggles and doubts. They were stuck in their old ways of
worship that revolved around the temple, priests, and sacrifices, and didn't believe Jesus was sufficient for forgiving their sins. Many converted
believers began to wish for the old way of life after Jesus ascended back to heaven and wondered whether or not Jesus was actually the messiah.

In the Old Covenant, people had to constantly sacrifice animals to cleanse their sins. These sacrifices, just like the people, were imperfect and never
completely took away their sin. They were a constant reminder to God that the people were sinners, and he had not yet fulfilled his promise of
sending his son Jesus. (Insert Leviticus verse) Alternatively, Jesus was the fulfilling of God's promise and the end to years of repeated sacrifices
that never ultimately took away sin. Hebrews 9:12 says, "He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the most Holy
Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption." And Hebrews 9: 28 says, "so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the
sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him." The people who clung to the
Old Covenant were dubious about this once time sacrifice that eliminated all sins, because they didn't know whether it would be enough. The author of
Hebrews constantly encourages them to believe that the perfect blood of Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice that would cleanse all sins

Q1) How Did You Come To Faith In Christ?. My Earliest Memory
Q1) how did you come to faith in Christ?
My earliest memory of anything connected to Jesus is at the age of 8. My mum bought me a series of books called 'Alice in Bibleland.' I thought the
books were spectacular, well–drawn and a rich source of comfort, but I didn't have a clear awareness of God or the gospel, these were just stories like
any other.
At age 11 I started secondary school. My best friend was a Christian and would tell me about what he and his family believed. One day, during morning
break, I went to the school library and picked up a copy of the Bible. I tried to read the first few verses of Genesis and immediately got bored.
Strangely, I can remember sitting in History class thinking about Genesis 1:3, I can't remember ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A few months after this, I began the process of applying to university. Since I was getting older I thought I might attempt to 'do things properly'. It
was 'proper' to endure church, even if it was boring, I reasoned. As a teenager I would occasionally feel bad about not going to church, especially
since I normally had a Christian friend or two. But the lives of these Christian friends seemed just like mine, in fact, many of these friends assumed I
was a Christian simply because I didn't drink alcohol or chase after girls.
At age 18 I was admitted to Bath Spa University to study Drama Studies and Creative Writing. I signed up to the Christian Union at the Fresher's
Fair and went along to the Thursday night meeting. I smiled through the songs and greeted the people. Someone asked me if I was born again, my
response was, 'What's that?' All in all I didn't enjoy the evening and planned not go back. In God's providence, I was invited to join the CU Men's
bible study which met on Saturdays. I can't remember what led me to accept the invitation, but I decided to go. This is where everything changed.
When Saturday came around, I went along not knowing what to expect. I took the only bible I owned at the time (the gargantuan study bible that my
dad had given to me) and while the other men commented on the passage from their own wealth of biblical knowledge, I stumbled through the tiny

A Bethlehem Experience : Joseph And Mary

St. Basil Summary
I attended the Greek Orthodox Archbishop Demetrios' lecture on "St. Basil's Nine Homilies on the Creation of the Universe" on Thursday, April 20th.
When I researched the Archbishop, I saw that he has been integral throughout the past couple of decades in scholarly efforts to unify different sects of
Christianity through Scripture. His topic, St. Basil of Caesarea was a Greek bishop whose works and ideas on Biblical doctrine are highly respected
by Catholics, Protestant, and Orthodox Christians alike. The lecture was primarily about these nine homilies that St. Basil gave that are generally
regarded as the first "Hexaemeron" (the genre of theology based in the six days of creation) and their corresponding significance on how we view

As I had never heard an Orthodox Christian speaker before or really knew that much about their beliefs, I now realize why there had to be

surely grateful that St. Basil made a great amount of headway for Christianity at a time (his life spanned 330 to 380 A.D.) when it had the latent
potential to expand but was also coming under fire from critics. Upon further research, I learned that St. Basil firmly believed in trinitarian divinity,
speaking out against both the Arians (who did not believe that Jesus was divine) and modalists (who believe in one God that takes different forms in
order in Jesus and the Holy Spirit). Ultimately, St. Basil's goal in delivering the homilies was to illuminate the word to the grandeur of the creation
and to defend scripture that was going against the heretics of the day, both noble objectives. In this, as we learned in class, St. Basil was an apologist,
attempting to explain his faith to those who were not as learned and hadn't or had previously shunned the word of

Great Job By All Handling The Guests With Younger Children...
Great Job
What a phenominal message last week and even more, what a great job by all handling the guests with younger children. We had a record number of
youth in the youth services and a record number of 1st time families. You made them feel welcome and you let them know in a loving way that the
message was for adults. Sever parents chose to bring their children and young adults in to benefit fromhearing the message and we applaud this. So
again, great job.
Please remeber to stay aware for 1st time guests as the enter and to greet them as the enter the Sanctuary. I know it can be hard to focus on the guest
with the incredilbe praise and worship band playing and it 's especially hard when there is a message that we need to hear. This is why we highly
encourage to worship at one service and serve at the other. This allows you to focus on getting fed and serving without sacrificing either.
You are an amazing team and I am so honored to be serving with you. See you Sunday.
Let this month of service be one of real joy as you serve the One you worship.
It all begins with reflection. There are two parts to this: reflecting ON God and allowing the Spirit of God to work within us so that we become better
reflections OF God.
REFLECT on GOD:
"I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago I will meditate on all Your works and consider all your mighty
deeds."
(Psalm 77:11–12)
"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you,

Beloved Family Research Paper

  • 1. Beloved Family Research Paper Beloved Family! It has been a joy partaking together for this 21 Days of Consecration. My heart rejoices over the personal testimonies received from many of you resulting from this 21 Days of Consecration. WOW! You may ask, what now? What's next? Remember consecration is not just a few days of being set apart, then going back to the same things that served as a distraction for deeper intimacy with God but rather consecration is a lifestyle. We are God's consecrated people cleansed by the blood ofJesus! You are at a new place now, a new level and let NOTHING bring you down! Live to the Glory of God! • 2. John Steinbeck's Cannery Row Cannery Row: Living Heaven on Earth Cannery Row (1945), a novel written by John Steinbeck, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, is a book without much of a plot. Instead, it's a novel where setting, atmosphere and most importantly character, take precedence. Steinbeck creates a colorful array of characters struggling to understand their own unique places in the world. The story is set in the early 20th century, immediately following the Depression and World War II. The characters live in Monterey, California amid the jumble of the sardine fisheries, the "Palace Flophouses", Lee Chong's grocery, Dora's whorehouse, and Doc's Biological Lab. Throughout the book, Steinbeck has the uncanny ability to combine his characters' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steinbeck frequently interrupts the flow of what could be considered the main story line, by throwing short segments into the writing thus introducing a new character (usually not directly connected to the primary story) or referencing some sort of cruel occurrence of real life. For example, in chapter twelve Steinbeck writes about the death of Josh Billings, an author who had come to Monterey. After Billings' death, the doctor dumps his remains into a gulch, where a little boy and his dog later find them. The little boy, not knowing any better, takes the author's remains to use them for fishing. Upon hearing this, the town quickly collects all his insides and puts them in a leaden box, which was placed in Josh Billings' coffin. The purpose of inserting this anecdote was to show the camaraderie and respect of the people in Cannery Row. At one point in the story, Steinbeck writes, "Josh Billings was a great man, a great writer. He had honored Monterey by dying there and he had been degraded" (64–65). Steinbeck demonstrates that by creating an atmosphere of noble intentions and good feelings for one another, everyone is able to live in a world of peace even when there are bad times. Steinbeck spends the greater part of the book writing about a party that Mac and the boys plan to throw for Doc. The boys believe that since Doc has always been such a nice guy that ... The hours that we spent in prayer asking from God, if such is spent in praise and worshipping chances are we will stand a better chance of receiving from our Heavenly Father. Praise and worship can be defined as giving God the gratitude for what He has done, what He is currently doing, and what He will do in our lives. In the atmosphere of praise and worship, the Holy Spirit abounds. Chains and shackles are broken, and blessings move around. 1 Tim. 4:–4 "For every creature of God is good and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving." THE MAJOR FIGURES IN THE BEGINNING OF THE PENTECOSTAL MOVEMENT IN AMERICA We now come to the section devoted to the major pioneers in the beginning of Pentecostalism in America. The first person we want to discuss is Charles Fox Parham. "He is the man generally recognized as the formulation of Pentecostal doctrine and the theological founder of the movement." Parham held to the theological argument that tongues are always the initial evidence of a person receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He also taught the necessity of being baptized with the Holy Spirit as the only way to escape the great tribulation. In October 1900 Parham opened a bible school in Topeka, Kansas and in December he led

The students came to study the book of Acts and during the study Parham asked them to find scriptural evidence of the baptism with the Holy Spirit. It was out of this study that led Parham to the conclusion this was the biblical way a person received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Parham moved to Houston Texas and started a church and bible school. It was at this school where a student name William Joseph Seymour, a black man attended the training sessions that Parham taught. • 8. Examples Of Mercy And Compassion There are so many ways on how to practice mercy and compassion. There are three simple steps given to us by Pope Francis during his apostolic visit here in the Philippines on how to become ministers of mercy and compassion. First is to rest with God. Second is to renew one's self. Third is to love others. Pope Francis tells us that "To be an ambassador for Christ means to invite everyone to a renewed personal encounter with Christ." (Evangelii Gaudium). A renewed personal encounter with Christ is witnessed when we rest with God. Rest is very crucial to everyone's life. But some people seldom have time to rest due to hectic schedules and for some students are overflowing homeworks. Rest is very important that even God rested during the 7th... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And also there are people that we love so much but doesn't return our love back. Real love is about loving God, and letting Him love us back. Another way of practicing mercy and compassion is to love others. Loving others unlike the renewal of one's self focuses on giving love to other people. Loving others is bringing Jesus to others. Loving others is not just about giving them what they need, it's about teaching them how to provide for themselves. Let us practice mercy and compassion by resting with God, renewing ourselves, and loving others. During the season of lent we reflect on the passion, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lent is a source of mercy and compassion in a way that we practice fasting and abstinence and as much as possible drink water. Water has a chemical formula of H2O which means, H for Honesty, H for Humility, for being humble enough to admit your mistakes, and O for Obedience, for obeying the people in authority like our parents. World Religions: the Pentecostal Faith World Religions Report: The Pentecostal Faith Kellye Berry HUM/130 Friday, October 18, 2013 Isabel Morales World Religions Report: The Pentecostal Faith (ROUGH DRAFT) The purpose of this paper is to give a summary of the Pentecostal Faith in the words of a woman who is both relatively newly sober and newly spiritual. Angela Harper is a fellow Alcoholics Anonymous member that I have known for almost three years now. I chose this denomination because I have never known very much about the Pentecostal faith, aside from the more obvious characteristics, as manifested by the women of that faith in their dress and decorum. She did point out, however, that when Jesus Christ came, in was no longer necessary to follow the Letter of the Law in order to experience God's Grace. Not only that, she says, but that her congregation understands and accepts that God sees and loves us in all of our ugliness, so there is really no reason to try and dress up for church jus for the benefit of other people. She pointed out that there are some female members who do still hold to the old way of dress, but that is most likely because that is the way they were raised and that is all they know. By the same token, it is important to remember that she is representing Jesus and her Church in everything she says and does, so while it may not be necessary to dress in long skirts and dresses and completely forego cosmetics, it is important that she always dress appropriately. Angela says her favorite aspect of church is the music and worship. She says every Sunday, there is a time of worship just prior to the sermon and that sometimes, the preacher will dedicate the entire service to the playing of music and worship. However, Wednesdays are always dedicated to Bible Study and the opportunity to learn more about God's Word and how to apply it in her everyday life. Although the devotions that she uses in her religious life aren't specific to the Pentecostal Church, she did say that she has begun a discipleship, in which she reads certain devotional books that are suggested to her ... It takes place at Settle United Methodist Church started at 7:00 pm on Thursday and ended on Sunday at 6:00 pm. Once I arrive a lady meets me at the door and says "what road are you on, on your faith journey." I stop for a minute to think and reply "I really don't know at this point. I have been dealing with a lot these past few months. I have questioned my faith, and at times even felt abandoned." She grabs my hand and says, "So let us get you registered then." Following registration there is an introduction to explain what will take place the next few days along with an orientation. "Welcome everyone" the lady begins. She continues to explain that in the next three days, that Emmaus will teach us to inspire, challenge, and equip us for Christian action in our homes, community, and work. There will be no cell phones, television, or internet. Finally that night we are told there will be an evening prayer and then silence to reflect until morning. Once I am settled in an elderly lady comes and sits beside me. I did not see this lady earlier in the group. She says to me "all your questions will be answered." I look at her and say "All of them, really? How does He have all the time for me, with everyone else's prayers needing answered also?" She smiles and walks away. • 11. Essay On The Tabernacle Chapter 7 "The Tabernacle of the Old Testament" The words tabernacle and temple can be confusing; let me in a simple way explain the difference. Firstly the tabernacle is the English translation of the Hebrew word ЧћЦґЧ©ЧЃЦ°Ч›ЦјЦёЧџ "mishkan", which simply means residence or dwelling place. According to the Hebrew Bible this was a portable dwelling place for the presence of God, from the time of the Exodus to the conquering of the Promise Land (Canaan). In contrast the temple is the English translation of the Hebrew word Ч”ЦµЧ™Ч›ЦёЧњ "heykal", meaning a large public building. Unlike the tabernacle, the temple was stationary and also called the "palace of Jehovah". It was an elaborately ordained holy place where the people congregated to worship God. I will explore the three compartments of the tabernacle, the contents that are within them, and also the connection between the tabernacle and its relevance to worship in Moses' time and how it is symbolic of today's worship. There are three compartments within the tabernacle: the Outer Court where the brazen altar and the washbasin are, then walking through a veiled curtain was the Holy Place (also known as the inner court) where the menorah, the table of showbread and the altar of incense was placed, and finally the Holy of Holies where the ark of the covenant was found. Humour in the main, is something that is used to please the audience, its function is to invoke laughter amongst its audience. Satire is used to create a comical critical view of the subject at hand, this can range from a light hearted comical way, to a judgemental way, with each style giving the text a different meaning, however this does not mean that satire cannot be humorous, which can evident in the use of parody and irony within texts. These differing styles of humour can be found in a variety of forms including Jasper Forde's The Eyre Affair (2001), with its silly atmosphere, word play and grammar jokes, and the use of light hearted satire and parody to brighten up the text, and Julian Barnes A History of the World in 10 1/2 Chapters (1989), where there is a more serious atmosphere, with a more critical, satirical eye on history and characters, as well as using irony to achieve its comical effect, and the position of the world. The effect and influence that BrontГ«'s Jane Eyre has on its audience is profound, and this is emulated in Thursday. It is evident early in the text that Thursday's childhood experiences and exposure with the characters and universe of Jane Eyre has caused her to, somewhat subconsciously, embody the character of Jane that she discovered within the pages of the novel. Thursday's self–identity is molded and formed so much by the novel that the character of Thursday herself, can be almost directly transposed with Jane. Through the author's use of intertextuality, Fforde is able to depict what would be perceived as a modern day, contemporary Jane Eyre, through the character of Thursday Next. Within the first exposure that Thursday directly has to the story of Jane Eyre, the effect of BrontГ«'s protagonist on the nine–year–old Thursday is unmistakable. Immediately, Thursday sees herself in the character and her beliefs surrounding her own self–image are visible, saying she "had realised not long ago that [she]. . . was no beauty. . . and had seen how the more attractive children gained favour more easily." (Fforde 66), however, she finds somewhat of a role model within Jane Eyre, expressing that "in that young woman I could see how those principles could be inverted. There are over billions of individuals across the globe who take part in the everyday rituals and practices of these two ethical practices. However, what's so intriguing about these religions is how incompatible they genuinely are. In Buddhism, its religious beliefs are centered around the teachings of Siddhartha Buddha. Through the works of Buddha, he was able to discover a way to put an end to the painful cycle of rebirth, death , and reincarnation. He learned that through extreme meditation and resentment from pleasures, you will be able to end your cycle of suffering by attaining Nirvana(enlightenment) But, in Christianity, it revolves around the teachings and miracles of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the anointed son of God who came down from heaven to redeem us of our sins. It was through his miraculous works that allowed us to be saved and have salvation in heaven with our heavenly father. In order to get to this spiritual kingdom, Christians believe that by following in the footsteps of Jesus, we will one day be righteously granted with the gift to live out the rest of our lives in eternal paradise with God himself. However, the term "Last Rites" is not equivalent to "Anointing of the Sick", since it refers also to two other distinct rites: Sacrament of Penance and Eucharist, the last of which is known as "Viaticum" (Latin:"provision for the journey") when administered to the dying. The normal order of administration of the rites is: first Penance (if the dying person is physically unable to confess, absolution is given conditionally on the existence of contrition), then Anointing, then Viaticum. • 23. The Sacred Space And Sacred Spaces Forged By The Divine Since their creation, humans have sought to find meaning from the mundane existence of mortality. This quest for answers has motivated many to seek out the divine and sacred spaces forged by the divine. Biblical scholar and historian Mircea Eliade argues that, "man becomes aware of the sacred because it manifests itself [and] to designate the act of manifestations of the sacred [is the] proposed term hierophany" (Eliade 1959: 11). In other words, a hierophany exists when the divine chooses to reveal himself, by defining a space or object as sacred through the divine's presence. After a hierophany occurs, the chosen object or space is deemed an axis mundi. Eliade defines axis mundi as, "a universal pillar which at once connects and supports heaven and earth and whose base is fixed in the world below" (Eliade 1959: 36). Using a comparative analysis of biblical texts and scholarly articles, this paper will discuss how a sacred space, specifically Jerusalem, manifests itself through God's choosing. Therefore Jerusalem is the holy dwelling place of the divine, because God chose it through his application of multiple hierophanies and his establishment of axes mundi within the city's walls. Jerusalem as a sacred dwelling place is reflected though its similarities to the Garden of Eden, where God created the first human beings on earth. Although we are not given the specific details about when it is written or who wrote the book of Haggai, it is often assumed that Haggai himself wrote it. Scholars also presume that it was written around 520 B.C. due to the specifics of the time period given in the book itself. It is a rather short book, only consisting of two chapters, and exact dates are given as to when the Lord spoke to Haggai regarding the rebuilding of the temple. For example, Haggai opens up by saying that the Lord first spoke to Haggai on the first day of the sixth month of the rule of Darius. The messages from the Lord to Haggai were directed to the governor, Zerubbabel, the high priest, Joshua,a and sometimes to all the people of Judah. These messages usually focus on the apathy of the people to rebuild the temple of the Lord. The people of God during The Book of Haggai are avoiding rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. The first temple was built by Solomon, the son of David . David initially wanted to build the temple, but God gave the task to Solomon. The Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar marched into Jerusalem and destroyed this first temple of God. The temple was to be rebuilt, but it was being avoided largely during the time of Haggai. Some writers of the fifteenth century posited that his father was Martin Bouillon, a descendant of the famous Godfrey de Bouillon, commander of the First Crusade; and his mother, Theresa Tavejra, was a descendant of Froila I, fourth king of Asturia. However, this genealogy is unproven. Nevertheless, his parents were faithful and sought to hand their faith onto their son. He also was privileged to receive his early education at the cathedral school of Lisbon. At the age of 15, Ferdinand joined the Canons Regular of St. Augustine in Lisbon. Two years later, he transferred to the monastery in Coimbra to avoid the distractions from frequent visits of relatives and friends. During this time, he studied diligently and, being gifted with an excellent memory, he attained an excellent knowledge of theology, sacred Scripture and the Church fathers. In 1220, the five bodies of the first Franciscan Martyrs, who were martyred in Morocco at the hands of the Moslems, were returned to Portugal. They were brought to the Church of Santa Croce in Coimbra for burial where Ferdinand was stationed. Moved by their witness of faith in suffering martyrdom, Ferdinand also desired to preach the gospel to the Moslems and even give his own life for our Lord. To pursue this desire, he left the Augustinians and joined the Order of Friars Minor, the Franciscans, and took the name "Anthony." St. Anthony ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. IHOP Atlanta Thursday afternoon, April 6th at 12:00, I attended International House of Prayer Atlanta (IHOP) located in Lawrenceville, Ga. There are three key components to the IHOP Atlanta Missions Base: 1) Prayer 2) Mission and 3) Community. IHOP Atlanta has a very contemporary worship space. Hence, the devotional prayer room, which in most churches would be considered their sanctuary, is the centerpiece of all that they do. Per the signage that is placed at the entrance of the prayer room, group prayer at IHOP Atlanta is facilitated by way of their corporate intercession sets which is offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. IHOP Atlanta believes this worship space of prayer ascends from one's hearts to the throne ofGod. As I entered the space, I noticed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The music was indeed freeing, revitalizing, and refreshing. It evoked powerful emotions which is hard to express. There is no language I may write that will effectively communicate how liberating the music made me feel. But, if I had to try, I must say I was mostly impressed how the music became the conduit where I could experience God's peace and presence. My body, mind and soul connection to the music encoded a deep anointing on my spirit. The music involved a combined shift of body–jerking pulses with rise and fall intensity. Which created an emotional roller coaster for me. One minute my body was twisting and jerking to earsplitting rock & roll and the next minute I was immersed in a near trance–inducing atmosphere in which the music toned down to a more mystical sensation that moved me to tears. The Weakness of this Contemporary Worship I believe my biggest critique with this style of worship is that I question if music is enough. Does music make true transformation in the way worship shapes our affections, values, perceptions and beliefs? Sure, good music add to the experience of worship and it may enhance someone's spiritual walk. But, does it build a true sustaining relationship with God or with the people of God? Thus, it is my belief that music only functions as background, mostly on the surface and not real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Cathedral of Saint Francis de Sales From St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City to the Cathedral of Notre–Dame in France, architects have designed some of the most beautiful Churches in the world. Expressing every little detail and nuance, they have relentlessly taken the time to develop these remarkable centers of worship. However, tourists of these Churches seem to fail to go "behind the scenes" and appreciate all the decision making and planning used to create these magnificent wonders. Thus, we the architects have put together this detailed synopsis to allow worshipers to appreciate every aspect and feature of The Cathedral of Saint Francis de Sales. Baptism will make them one of the men that Catholicism has caught, or rather, has taught. The confessionals, also known as reconciliation rooms, are areas where one can perform the Sacrament of Penance, also known as confession. These are located in the back of the Cathedral so that the confessor may confess their sins in a secluded room where they feel private and comfortable. A cry room is located in the back of the Cathedral. It is for families that have newly born babies. If the parents were to bring their babies to Cathedral they would most likely cry during the Mass, and it will interrupt the Mass. Therefore, the cry room is for families who still want to go to church but do not want to interrupt the Holy mass. The cry room has speakers in it that are connected to the priest's microphone so that those inside the room will be able to follow and hear the Mass. The "Adoration Chapel" is a term that is broadly used to designate the practically uninterrupted adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The Adoration Chapel contains the Eucharist, which is in a special holder called the monstrance. Parishioners of the Cathedral may come to pray and worship Jesus continually throughout the day and at night. As mentioned earlier, the Adoration Chapel is one of the annexes in the Cathedral. Christ’s Resurrection Foretold and Witnessed I suppose, since I became a Christian (born again July 31, 1975), I have heard a lot of different opinions concerning different areas and events of the Bible. Of all the topics and points of interest, none has intrigued me as much as the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As you read this study there is one main point that all Christians will agree on. It may not be the day of the week or the hour of the day Jesus died, but we will all agree to the fact that Jesus did arise from the dead and is currently at the right hand of God the Father. You might be a religious person, yet not believe Jesus arose from the dead. That belief would not negate you from being religious, but it would negate a profession ... Just as the tenth day of the seventh month comes on different days of the week, and the tenth day is known as Sabbath, it stands to reason that there isn't just one Sabbath in every week. Just as the seventh month and tenth day is to be the day of atonement, (a Sabbath of Rest) and it may fall on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or whatever day of the week, there is still a seventh day of the week (Saturday) Sabbath in that same week. It was such a Holy day, a Sabbath day, approaching when Jesus was crucified. (John 19:31, KJV). "The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies shall not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, (for that Sabbath day was a high day), besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away." (KJV). Therefore it stands to reason there were two Sabbath's in the week of crucifixion: 1) the high day Sabbath, 2) the seventh day of the week, Saturday. • 33. Good Friday and Lent All About Lent Q: What is Lent? A:Historically, Lent is the forty day period before Easter, excluding Sundays, it began on Ash Wednesday and ended on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter Sunday). On Sunday we must celebrate Christ's resurrection for our salvation. It is Friday on which we commemorate his death for our sins. The Sundays of the year are days of celebration and the Fridays of the year are days of penance. Q: Why are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the rest of the year Catholics in this country are permitted to use a different act of penance on Friday in place of abstinence, though all Fridays are days of penance on which we are required to do something expressing sorrow for our sins, just as Sundays are holy days on which we are required to worship and celebrate God's great gift of salvation. Q: Why are acts of repentance appropriate at this time of year? A: Because it is the time leading up to the commemoration of Our Lord's death for our sins and the commemoration of his resurrection for our salvation. It is thus especially appropriate to mourn the sins for which he died. Human have an innate psychological need to mourn tragedies, and our sins are tragedies of the greatest sort. Due to our fallen nature humans also have a need to have set times in which to engage in behavior (which is why we have Sundays as a set time to rest and worship, since we would otherwise be likely to forget to devote sufficient time to rest and worship), it is appropriate to have set times of repentance. Lent is one of those set times. Q: What are appropriate activities for ordinary days during Lent? A: Giving up something we enjoy for Lent, doing of physical or spiritual acts of mercy for others, prayer, fasting, abstinence, going to confession, and other acts expressing repentance in general. Q: Is the custom of giving up something for Lent mandatory? A: No. However, it is a salutary custom, and

Compare and Contrast William Blake's The Chimney–Sweeper, Holy Thursday (Innocence) and London I am going to compare and contrast three of William Blake poems, where he shows his feelings about the way people treat children: The Chimney–Sweeper, Holy Thursday (Innocence) and London. The Chimney–Sweeper is about a child who sweeps chimneys. William Blake sets this poem in the winter. The children worked in the cold. Blake says, "A little black thing among the snow," "The little black thing," Is the child who is dirty from cleaning the chimneys who stands out in the snow. He also looks like a black mask on the landscape. Like a dirty stain. "Crying weep, weep in the notes of woe!" Blake hears them crying a song. As children do ... • 38. The Sacred And The Profane The city of Jerusalem has been recognized as the holy city throughout the history of three religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. During the time of Judaism, Biblical writers presented Jerusalem as the most sacred space, the center of the world, and the city of the Lord. A leading interpreter of religious texts, Mircea Eliade, in his book The Sacred and The Profane, defined several religious experiences with specific terminologies, such as hierophany, which means the sign of sacredness, and axis mundi, which is the center of the world. These terminologies will help us in interpreting how the biblical writers promote Jerusalem as the holy city. In the Hebrew Bible Genesis 1–3, 22, 2 Samuel 6–8, 1 King 6–8, the writers reveal Jerusalem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A hierophany, according to Eliade, is "an irruption of the sacred that results in detaching a territory from the surrounding cosmic milieu and making it qualitatively different" (Eliade 1987, 26). In other words, a hierophany is a sign that reveals the sacredness of a place (27). When a sacred place reveals itself in a hierophany, an opening, either upward to heaven or downward to the underworld, has also been created in the center of the world. The opening is called as the axis mundi, and it enables the communication between the divine and the people on the earth (36). The axis mundi is usually expressed by different images, like a pillar, a ladder or a mountain, etc (37). There are more than one axis mundi. A country, a city, a sanctuary, and an altar are all axis mundi and all represent the center of the world concurrently. This can be understood by thinking that these sacred places are reproducing the universe on the "microcosmic scale" (43) and they all equally represent an imago mundi, which means a "square constructed from a central point" (45). Only by living in the center of the world, can a religious man find the satisfaction of communicating with the divine world. Therefore, "every construction or fabrication has the cosmogony as paradigmatic model" (45), which means that every construction represent a micro cosmos, an imago mundi. The terms found by Eliade will be very useful when interpreting how Jerusalem is depicted in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Role Of Jesus In The Old Covenant Many people don't appreciate change. They prefer to stay in their normal way of life, and enjoy their routine. Unfortunately, life loves to throw curveballs and change is inevitable. Many people have trouble accepting a new (way) of things and they cling to the old methods as long as they can. When Jesus came to earth to die for everyone's sins, many Jewish people had struggles and doubts. They were stuck in their old ways of worship that revolved around the temple, priests, and sacrifices, and didn't believe Jesus was sufficient for forgiving their sins. Many converted believers began to wish for the old way of life after Jesus ascended back to heaven and wondered whether or not Jesus was actually the messiah. Leviticus goes into detail... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Old Covenant, people had to constantly sacrifice animals to cleanse their sins. These sacrifices, just like the people, were imperfect and never completely took away their sin. They were a constant reminder to God that the people were sinners, and he had not yet fulfilled his promise of sending his son Jesus. (Insert Leviticus verse) Alternatively, Jesus was the fulfilling of God's promise and the end to years of repeated sacrifices that never ultimately took away sin. Hebrews 9:12 says, "He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption." And Hebrews 9: 28 says, "so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him." The people who clung to the Old Covenant were dubious about this once time sacrifice that eliminated all sins, because they didn't know whether it would be enough. • 41. Q1) How Did You Come To Faith In Christ?. My Earliest Memory Q1) how did you come to faith in Christ? My earliest memory of anything connected to Jesus is at the age of 8. My mum bought me a series of books called 'Alice in Bibleland.' I thought the books were spectacular, well–drawn and a rich source of comfort, but I didn't have a clear awareness of God or the gospel, these were just stories like any other. At age 11 I started secondary school. My best friend was a Christian and would tell me about what he and his family believed. One day, during morning break, I went to the school library and picked up a copy of the Bible. I tried to read the first few verses of Genesis and immediately got bored. But the lives of these Christian friends seemed just like mine, in fact, many of these friends assumed I was a Christian simply because I didn't drink alcohol or chase after girls. At age 18 I was admitted to Bath Spa University to study Drama Studies and Creative Writing. I signed up to the Christian Union at the Fresher's Fair and went along to the Thursday night meeting. In God's providence, I was invited to join the CU Men's bible study which met on Saturdays. I can't remember what led me to accept the invitation, but I decided to go. His topic, St. Basil of Caesarea was a Greek bishop whose works and ideas on Biblical doctrine are highly respected by Catholics, Protestant, and Orthodox Christians alike. Upon further research, I learned that St. Basil firmly believed in trinitarian divinity, speaking out against both the Arians (who did not believe that Jesus was divine) and modalists (who believe in one God that takes different forms in order in Jesus and the Holy Spirit). Ultimately, St. Basil's goal in delivering the homilies was to illuminate the word to the grandeur of the creation and to defend scripture that was going against the heretics of the day, both noble objectives.
