Essay My Personal Culture
Culture defines people's values, beliefs, and personal interests. Culture is important because it
allows people to maintain a unique identity society. Many cultures have common interests, while
others may have customs that differ greatly from that of another. Technology has had a huge impact
on present day cultures. Many culture have been altered including my own, and some have been
created due to the rise of technology. Cultures differ so greatly that someone belonging to one
culture may not agree with the values of another, which then causes social and ethical issues. My
culture shares many similarities with others around the world; most of which have connected more
people in recent years than ever before. Cultural gaps, and lack of ... Show more content on

In the past, things were primarily about skin color, and issues regarding people of a particular skin
color were handled by such, and not ethnicity. Black people were black people, whites were whites,
and so on. The point is that by distinguishing myself from a general role, I am able to have my own
identity, and I can make choices for my best interest, and not for the majority.
In spite of their differences, both African and African–American culture have been able to connect
in certain ways in recent years, as well as other cultures. Technology, specifically social media has
allowed my generation to connect with one another even with our cultural differences. There is a
chemistry that exists within my generation that my parent's generation never could have imagined
was possible. The International Association of Business Communicators says "At its core, social
media are about sharing information across boundaries. We can now find out what we want from
whomever we want. Social media is breaking down hierarchical, regional, age and cultural
boundaries" (IABC). Things have changed socially, through digital means, and it's a big part of what
makes me and my generation unique. Today, people in the United States can interact and
communicate with people from anywhere around the world. I listened to some weird electronic
music from France one night and it is amazing that I can do that. The internet has

How To Write A Personal Essay About My American Culture
As an American who has Russian parents and was born in Israel, I have always been engaged in
multiple cultures. My parents have put emphasis on preserving our Russian heritage while
encouraging me to immerse myself in American culture. As I stand at the threshold of entering
college, I am thrilled by the prospect of becoming acquainted with yet another cultural sphere.
Being fluent in both Russian and English has been transformative. Over the course of my life, I have
read Pushkin and Hughes, Dostoyevsky and Dickens, Pasternak and Hemingway. Through
literature, I have been able to gain insight into the defining themes of two fundamentally different
cultures. I have understood the tumults of post–revolutionary Russia and the dejection of ... Show

After leaving the Soviet Union and gaining freedom of religion, my parents became devout Russian
Orthodox Christians. Nearly every Sunday of my life has been spent in church. My parents have
encouraged me to become an active member of my parish: I used my knowledge of Russian to learn
the Slavonic alphabet in order to read epistles, psalms, and prayers during each service. Reading
these texts over and over again has woven the tenets of my faith into my being. The principle that
has resonated with me most is my "golden rule"–that one should not judge others. This mandate to
keep an open mind is an integral part of my identity. I strive to accept people and their ideas at face
value without any animosity. The "golden rule" makes it possible for me to consider new
perspectives without compromising my own beliefs. When I meet someone who holds a viewpoint
that differs from mine, I consider these ideas based on their merit, rather than simply putting up a
blustering defense of my own views. Listening with an open mind enables me to find the inherent
goodness in every person I meet and blend my traditional views with contemporary ideas into a

During her four months spent in Italy, Gilbert explored the impacts of food on one's health and
overall happiness. Pasta, the staple meal and often the symbol of Italy, is a so–called "comfort food"
– foods that provide consolation or a feeling of well–being, often high in sugar and carbohydrates.
The American depression rate is approximately 9.6%, a significantly greater amount than Italy's
3.8%. Important to note is Italy's Mediterranean diet, high in fish and shellfish, which are both high
in a fatty acid called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an essential building block for the brain
structure. According to a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), there is a link
between DHA deficiency and an increase in the prevalence of depression in the United States. One's
diet has a huge influence on their happiness and well–being; perhaps if Americans had a more
balanced diets, our nation's depression rate would show a decrease.
After leaving Italy, Elizabeth Gilbert traveled to India, researching the effects of prayer and religion.
Through practicing yoga and meditating in an ashram, to common activities that are a big part of the
Indian culture, she reached spiritual enlightenment and created a better relationship with God.
According to Stephanie Papps' "8 Ways Religion Impacts Your Life," religious people tend to be
happier than non–believers. In 2010, the Journal of Clinical

Personal Culture And My Family Culture Essay
While looking upon my personal culture and my family's culture in an attempt to find appropriate
dishes for this assignment, it became apparent to me that I have no definite culture. Whereas I have
lived in Canada my whole life, my family's background has engaged me in varying cultures, though
I have never felt truly attuned to one culture. On the other hand, my father is a first generation
Canadian, his parents both from Scotland. Though aware of my Scottish origins and my
grandparents' migration to Canada, Scottish culture has never been explicitly celebrated amongst
those in my family. Furthermore, my family previously migrated from Ireland during the Irish
famine, resulting in Irish culture to also represented in my family's culture. Variously, my mother's
side of the family has lived in Canada for many generations, but I do not consider myself as being
authentically Canadian. Accordingly, throughout my childhood, I was never encouraged to celebrate
an explicit culture. Furthermore, religion was never prominent in my life either, as my parents
decided against baptizing any of my siblings and me, as per the family tradition, because they
wished for us to have religious freedom. However, because of the rest of my family's religion, as
well as my background, my family has always celebrated Christian holidays, though I have never
been to church for a reason other than a wedding. I find that without any cultural ties from my
family's history and practices, that the culture I

My Personal Experience Of My Arabic Culture
Arabic Culture Culture is a very significant attribute of human experience determining to a large
extend the way people relate with others within their environment. According to Mahfouz (2011),
culture is also important not just for managing the way understand and relate with each other but
also as a form of identification giving people a sense of belonging and identity. The human race is
highly cultured with many different people preferring to lead their lives based on traditions defined
within their cultures and in order to understand human behavior and relationship, it is important to
ensure that this issue is well understood and appreciated. This brief paper discusses the effect that
culture has on how people relate with each other and how different cultures provide different
avenues of expression that make life easier or harder for those that relate with them. I will use my
personal experience of my Arabic culture to provide insights about the issues that culture influences
in human relations. I am of Arabic descent. The Arabic culture is one that is rich in history as it is in
complexity. It refers to the culture of people that speak the Arabic language mainly within the
Western Asia, North Africa, and the Arabian Sea as the main areas of Arabic culture dominance
(Mahfouz, 2011). The Arabic culture has three main parts that define its central key concepts and
these are: the urban culture which is called Al–Mudum, the Nomad Culture which is

Personal Narrative: The White Co-Culture
There are different cultures around the world, and I have yet to see them, but I belong to the culture
of America while retaining most of the same values and beliefs as one. There are many co–cultures
to which I could possibly belong to. Throughout the years it could have changed and morphed
throughout my life–span, the short lived one so far. The culture changes throughout the world as the
language, values beliefs, traditions, or customs change as you roam across it. Although I know of
perhaps a little of it, just an eighteenth of what I could possibly can possible, there are many cultures

loved about it. I just found myself to loathe the social end of it, as I had went through troubles with
that. I had eventually had to seclude myself from most people. But as I came to college, expecting
the worse in result getting the best. It has been an experience so far and can clearly see a difference,
my attitude towards everything has changed. Before it had felt like I had no friends, but now I feel
like I definitely do. High school felt like it was very close–knit, everyone was in everyone's
business; it was a little community of its own within a small or medium sized building. At a college
community there is just too much going on and it's not all about what Sally did or what George did,
or what they did together. There may be things said and all among somewhere in there, but it
honestly does not even matter. Perhaps I am not quite hitting it on the nose of what's the difference
but the feeling is a whole new one and it's the best kind of change I can find. Although there are still
some that stir up the drama that is high school and trivial that could be avoided. Everyone wants to

Personal Narrative: Living Across Other Cultures
I was born in Chicago, IL a city known for its diversity. Growing up here has given me the
opportunity to meet people from various cultures. As a result of that, I concluded that by definition
Hispanics are U.S citizens whose family background traces back to a Spanish–speaking country. My
definition, however, is a vague representation of how my heart truly interprets being Hispanic.
I was born and raised the first nine years of my life in Little Village, a town in Chicago that is
known for its Hispanic herritage. I, then, lived for 8 years in Archer Heights, a more culturally
combined area. I still spent a lot of time in Little Village with family members and playing sports.
Living in Archer Heights allowed me to recognize how different it is to live amongst other cultures,
rather than just Hispanics. I currently live in Little Village again and I love it because it gives me a
home feeling, something that I do not feel anywhere else. In Archer Heights, I felt out of place and

When it is time to stand up against something, Hispanics come together as one. They also come
together to celebrate all kinds of occasions such as birthday's, Independence Day, and more. The
community is very united. The people around me are very rich in their principles and character. For
the most part, everyone is familiar with one another and never fail to give each other out a helping
hand. Generally, everyone supports, or at least respects, each other's hard work. That is admirable.
Being Hispanic is about having support and respect for one another.
Over all, I can say that being Hispanic is a beauty. To be Hispanic means to value your roots enough
to practice, teach, and act upon them. It also means that various races become one. Being Hispanic
means to have a compassionate and joyous heart amongst others. It is feeling uncomfortable when
these virtues are not evident. Being Hispanic is my pride and

Nwoye: Culture And Personal Identity
In a culture, there are often several different morals or beliefs that shape the culture. For one to only
know a single culture their entire life, and suddenly receive exposure to a new one can stir new
ideas and many questions. However, in many cultures expectations and certain beliefs as well as
customs, can get in the way of experiencing a new culture. The way that a character responds to new
cultural ideas or collisions can cause them to change the overall message of the story, along with
their personal identity. As new ideas are slowly finding their way into the culture that Nwoye has
always known, he begins to open his mind to them. These new ideas challenge and push the
boundaries of what Nwoye has always known. There are different

Personal Narrative: My Peruvian Culture
Culture As human beings, people have their own form of identity and often have the need of
belonging to be part or member of a group. Culture is the shared characteristics of a group of people
which include beliefs, language, values, traditions, rules and laws. Culture can be passed down from
generation to generation for instance from parents to children, and since culture is the product of
society thus it can grow and be learnt through social interaction. Moreover, the significance of
culture is so profound because it plays a big role in helping individuals shape their own identity, the
beliefs, values and morals shared from our culture that we have practiced for all our life, can
determine who we are as a person and our choices in life. Once culture is a part of your everyday
life, you take it with you wherever you go and in some cases you might implement some of the new
culture onto your old one. For instance, the U.S is home to many individuals whom are part of
several different cultures, and each of them practice them in their own way. My Peruvian culture

balance between dichotomies. My layered heritage draws me to lace meaning into their work, such

A Personal Experience With Mexican American Culture
A Personal Experience With Mexican American Culture
This is a narrative of one Mexican American woman's experiences and her views on the importance
of passing down the cultural beliefs of her ancestors. In the section of the country in which I live
there is a large population within the community of Mexican American culture. Although I have
frequent contact with people of Mexican American heritage either through employment or
interaction out in the community, I have a limited understanding of their culture. For this reason, I
chose to learn more about the population of people I have frequent contact with and as a
professional work with as clients in the field of mental health counseling. The quest of finding
someone knowledgeable to discuss the population, their cultural background and some of their
necessities, as well as some past experiences, led me towards contacting a church. This took calling
two different churches before the person at the second church informed me that I needed to speak
with, Mrs. Socorro Garcia head of their Hispanic Ministries. Unfortunately, Mrs. Garcia was on
vacation when I called, but I was able to speak with her over the phone the following week, setting
up an interview in person at her office a couple days later. This was a relief because I was becoming
concerned about locating someone for a personal interview.

Collectivist
The sibling culture I experience weighs more on the collectivist culture. This is because my
relationship with my siblings is primarily grouped based. We value group cooperation and harmony
rather than a competitive spirit or individual desire. Evidence of this is depicted as we work together
to complete the task of finishing our chores. We constantly split chores and alternate. We also work
together to help each other out, both academically and emotionally. As a middle child, I have
experienced helping out my younger brother and receiving help from my two older sisters.

High/Low Uncertainty Avoidance:
Low Uncertainty Avoidance
Within the sibling culture, I experience the low uncertainty avoidance culture rather than high
uncertainty avoidance culture. As siblings, we value ambiguity, uncertainty, and risk. Our
acceptance of the unpredictability is natural and we are open to new approaches constantly. One
characteristic of our risk taking behavior is evident in our entrepreneurship. For instance, a couple
of years back, we decided to start a lemonade stand and bake goods outside of our parents' shop.
Although we had a plan and carried it out, we knew that reality would get in the way and
unpredictable things would happen, but we didn't let that stop us. We continued on with our idea and
was willing to accept the challenge we had enforced upon ourselves. We are also always open to
unknown situations. An example of our risk–taking behavior is when we decided to create a club at
school. We decided to create a club in where we invested time in organizing events to help the
homeless. We started the club with no knowledge of how it would turn out. We had no idea our
parents and other students would get involved. This example depicts how willing me and my
siblings are in finding different ways of doing things rather than following rules too precisely.

Culture: Culture And Reflect And Analyze My Personal Culture
1.0 Introduction
Nowadays, cultures can be considered as a very important part in our living life because every
country or every people must have their own culture and it can be act as a sign for people.
According to both Namenwirth and Weber (1987), national culture could be defined as a set of
norms, beliefs, customs and behaviors which will always exist within the population of sovereign
nation. Nevertheless, Hosftede (1983) also stated that cultural dimensions are only a framework that
creates to explain about the differences between cultures. Besides that, those cultural dimensions
can also act as a guideline of decision making for those business holders who wants to globalize
their business to the other country. Overall, as a Malaysian manager who is going to China soon for

six types of culture dimensions to help me in making decisions before proceed with any intention.

My Identity : Family, Culture, And Personal Identity
Defining personal identity is to define a personal quality that makes me unique in comparison to my
peers. My personal identity has been shaped by many external factors. Some aspects that have
influenced what my personal identity is today are family, friends, culture, environment, personal
fascination, and consciousness.
To truly understand my identity, I have to start at the very beginning. The date was September
seventh, 1999. It was a Tuesday, under the sign of Virgo. Bill Clinton was president, Mambo No. 5
was in the top 5 hits in the UK, Jackie Chan directed the most popular movie of the year, Rainbow
Six by Tom Clancy was one of the best–selling books, and most importantly I was born. I was born
to Shilpa and Ajay Paul in Rockville, Maryland where we lived for three years. When I was three
years old my sister was born and my family moved to India. Living in India gave me a lot of what
now makes up my cultural identity and taught me a lot about my family and our roots. Despite the
great opportunity I was being given, I did not understand the experience of living in India would
help me become more in touch with my family and myself. When we moved back to the United
States, I did not think I was going to be ostracized for my skin color, my religion, or the way I
spoke. We moved to Texas, Portland, to be exact, which is a fairly small town outside of Corpus
Christi. There were only two families in Portland who were not white Christians, my family and my

Personal Narrative: A Sense Of American Culture
There are seven billion people in this world. Those of us who come from second generation families
often find it difficult to have a sense of cultural identity because they don't quite fit in as Americans
whose families have lived in the U.S for generations. First generation families, like my siblings and
I, also struggle to fit in. To illustrate, we come from a very diverse background involving Swedish,
Arabic, English, and Somali culture. This upbringing has shaped my beliefs, view of the world, and
morals to make me the person I am today.
Undoubtedly, the time during my childhood was the craziest time of my life. Often during family
gatherings, multiple people would yell across the room in a series of multiple languages. Once my
Aunt shouted,"Gå få den mat!." As my Aunt started speaking Swedish, I stood there and totally

function – it was resisting the oddly unfamiliar words. Halfway across the room, I heard someone
call my name awakening me from my kindling thoughts. I turned around, looking precisely at my
cousin I saw that she wasn't surrounded by her large groups of siblings. My cousin, named Zeinab,

The type of food a specific culture makes and passes onto their future generation is called cultural

Growing up and having all of these family gathering made me stronger on finding out who I identify

our forthcomings about the type of food and beliefs of what we think is right and wrong. At the end

Personal Items that Defined My Culture Essay
While our parents offer themselves to help us grow as civilized human beings, one of the most
important things they do is present to us our culture. As a small child, my parents introduced me to
the world, and what a wonderful place it can or can't be. Different traditions were taught to me
throughout my years and these developed into the fundamental ideas for my lifestyle and culture.
The idea of culture that we all share is extremely complex, so it is hard to define any parts of it
without the use of symbolism. In order to define my culture, I selected three objects to represent me
and my culture in a broad spectrum. However odd these objects may seem, I chose an aluminum
ring, a computer and a Christmas stocking. These particular items ... Show more content on

In the modern day, we use technology to every benefit we can and I am not ashamed of that; my
opinion on the use of technology (specifically computers) is that in quantities of moderation,
technology can exponentially expand the growth of our civilization. For my second cultural object, I
chose my home computer because I can spend upwards of hours upon it each day, primarily doing
work or visiting recreational, social websites and games. The renowned scientist Carl Sagan once
said, "We've arranged a civilization in which most crucial elements profoundly depend on science
and technology." This quotation blatantly applies to modern day society, where it is nearly
impossible to communicate with people without an email or cell phone. The laptop is also an
immense part of my culture regarding schoolwork, where I need the laptop to access the websites
teachers use. With so many hours per day enveloped the laptop, it has grown to be a large part of my
daily routine and culture overall.
The final object I chose to describe my culture is my Christmas stocking. To me this stocking
represents my traditions and faith in an elegant little display. Within the first few months of my
birth, my parents had me Baptized as a Roman Catholic and that has been my faith ever since. We as
a family celebrate the story of Christmas every year with prayer and festivities to go along with our

Want to know what shaped your behavior and personal values? Then through the Lewis cultural
category survey, you can understand how the culture you grow up in shaped the person who you are
today. The survey results will let you know what culture category you follow into either linear–
active, multi–active, or reactive.
Behaviors and Personal Values
Growing up fourth–generation Southern Californian my nuclear family help shape my values and
behavior. My parents taught me there were consequences in life for my actions, rather it was right or
wrong. For example, I came home drunk from a party on a Friday night while I was in high school.
So, my father didn't punish me that night. However, Saturday morning he woke me up and made
sure I attended the three–hour basketball practice at school. I learned my lesson not to get drunk.
Also, my parents assigned chores around the house to teach me the value of good work ethics.
Furthermore, they instilled in me freedom of choice to pursue sports, play a musical instrument, or
anything else that interested me. Also, allowed me to have input into family discussions teaching me
how to have an opinion and defend it. Then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The military needs to recognize the underlying cultural dynamics and language in the countries
where the warfighter is fighting. By understanding the cultural dynamics, the warfighter can build
one–to–one relationships with the local culture. Also, warfighters need to be aware of what hand

to be sensitive to the local population's beliefs and religion. Therefore, the warfighter has to stay
away from transferring American values and religious beliefs onto the local culture. So, by
understanding the opposition's culture can create a positive change operationally, tactically, and

How Does Culture Influence Personal Identity?
Culture is one of the major influences on our lives and social interactions; culture is associated with
our characteristics of religion, societal norms of behavior; moreover, culture is always changing and
the influence increases. With every religion there are traditions and cultures that are a form of art as
it involves many characteristics' of individuals and their beliefs, values, and perspective, for this
reason, there are various dynamics in terms of how culture is involved and the influence of our
actions, such as media, peers, family, and socializations. Culture is a factor of social environment
and what is modeled to us in our early years of development.
This essay will outline how in today's society, culture influences our personal identity, our actions,
and media. Culture is a primary factor in our lives but it is also how we respond to the culture and
identity we are exposed too. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In today's society, an individual who is a member of the dominant privileged societal assembly is
not always discussed because the personal identity is taken as a guarantee due to the dominant
culture. Nevertheless, culture affects the members of society because of the association with the
dominant culture we become a different category consequently which leads to being treated and
viewed differently (Tatum, 2000.) "Culture creates a person" (Vognar, 2012). In my opinion, culture
influences how we represent ourselves; starting with how we communicate, behave, body gestures
and postures. This can affect us psychologically. "Culture shapes us, but many events mold culture
and we shape these just as much". By virtue of unconsciously of us behaving in a way that we feel is
culturally appropriate according to how we were raised from our early childhood years to our

Personal Experience : Cultural, Culture, And Socioeconomic...
Introduction A person usually lives trying to find a compromise between his own cultural, religious,
ethnic, socioeconomic beliefs and those of others. I observed this predominantly when I started my
study abroad where my culture has experienced different assessments with only one result: to be
included or to go back home. This suffering can be on a small scale affecting one aspect of culture
when we agree or disagree with a friend or any affiliate. However, the big cultural challenge is when
we face other ethnicities whose culture, religion, social norms, and moralities are different or in
most cases are contradicting. Then, our individual intelligences and wisdom appear to be our
guidance. The more educated a person is, the faster they interact with others.
Culture
According to Smith (2004), understanding that we are not the same is significant in bridging cultural
barriers and avoiding too many cultural shocks. For example, in Saudi Arabia, a person tries their
best to pay the bill in a café or restaurant on behalf of others in a social group. The first day I came
to America, I went out with some of my neighbors to a nearby bakery. Each one ordered what they
like. When the waiter came with the bill, I snatched it to pay. My group did not fight back to pay the
bill and just said, "Thank you!" I was not amazed at all; and it was a very normal thing I did.
However, the cultural shock appeared again. After one week, we hanged out again in a different
café; and the same

Personal Narrative: My Personal Culture
Whether in general or personal, culture is based on the values, core beliefs or customs that hold a
people group together (Solomon, Marshall, & Stuart, 2012, p. 147). Though not always foreign,
some cultures even involve rituals adhered to for many centuries. For instance, the Jewish males
celebrate becoming a man through a bar mitzvah. A personal culture is more intimate to an
individual. My personal culture is centered around or influenced by my faith, my family and my
occupation. Growing up in a conservatively Christian home centered on love with service and
worship. Those values developed further into integrity and humility. Subsequently, I did not stray
too far from the narrow path and those ideals are continuing in my own home. Much like other
occupations, law enforcement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mining plays a key role in the economy of China and has a type of sub–culture all to itself (XIA
LING, DUAN HONG, & WANG, 2016). Chinese miners are very proud of their occupation which
passes from one generation to the next. While individualistic in nature with the nation's economy,
the culture began to shift to a more collective, humanistic one as the effects of pollution set in. The
study stated, "Chinese mining enterprises are not only the producer of wealth but also the destroyer
of the natural resources." Management began to see these affects and began intrinsically changing
the mining sub–culture. References Solomon, M., Marshall, G., & Stuart, E. (2012). Brand you:

Personal Narrative: I Am The Product Of American Culture
In Middle Eastern culture, the process is often more important than accomplishing the goal. Manner
and style are extremely important, along with showing respect to co–workers and even opposing
individuals when negotiations are involved. It is my family tradition to consider each human being
to have infinite worth and so to be treated with ultimate respect, dignity and concern for the
preservation of one's self image. Yet being born in America and reared in Pennsylvania and
California, I am the product of American culture. In America, time and money are often considered
more important than the feelings of people. This can be metaphorically detailed when comparing
American football to bullfighting in Spain. In football, when the end is running out for a pass like a
beautiful gazelle, the ball is thrown, and he is cut in half by the defensive player, thus he does not
score and the crowd rooting for the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have found that loyalty and honor are quite intangible elements and yet can be of the highest
motivational value. In the name of honor people give vast sums of money to charitable causes so
that their names are recognized and in the name of honor people sacrifice their lives in armed
conflicts around the world and have done so since the dawn of history. Yet, I try not to be quite so
philosophical in my approach and explain that each person owes it to him/her self to be the best, to
live up to potential, and to be thankful for the talents that they were given. Indeed, my leadership
style revolves around the concept of gratitude and I believe that my sense of gratitude is clearly
reflected upon those I encounter and has led our track team to a phenomenal

Benjamin Franklin Once said "You can do anything you set your mind to." Only now have I realized

that they had all these things that they couldn't do, when in reality I was being naive . Deaf people
can do anything they want to, except hear. I was also naive for not thinking about how Deaf people
have their own culture. And now that I think about it, it's obvious that they have their own culture.
All languages have their own culture. Part of their culture is that many of them, if they had the
choice, would choose to stay deaf than be able to hear. And to me this is just weird, but that's just
part of my culture. It's scary for me to imagine a life

Personal Statement: My Classroom Culture
If I was a teacher in the Harrah Hotel College, the type of culture that I would like to create within
my class would be mainly based on respect and the importance of teamwork. In my classroom
culture my students will be expected (will learn) to respect different things. The class culture will
teach my students to respect the time that the class starts, and the opinions' from their fellow
students. Also my class culture will create a sense of "brotherhood" between students and will
promote the importance of working as a team and hopefully will teach my students to work as a part
of a team.
The first way in which I will try to share my cultural vision to my students will be when reading the
course Syllabus. When I am reading and explaining the class rules, I will tell my students that
attending class is not mandatory, but is encourage to attend class if they want to pass the course. I
will also explain to my students that I they want to attend class they need to be on time because once

ritual that will be created for my class. In order to increase the sense of brotherhood in the class
,every time that a student wants to talk to the class they will have to say their name (for the first

Personal Culture : The Importance Of Communication In...
Communication in Hispanic Culture When focusing in on communication within Hispanic culture,
there are many things that easily go undetected. While explaining differences in communication
with Hispanic families, Geri–Ann Galanti (2008) emphasizes the importance of familismo, which
many people have never heard of. Familismo is the importance of immediate and extended families
in all areas of life, especially communication. In the medical field, this means showing respect and
including all family members in relevant conversations. One example Galanti (2008) uses is the
gesture of a health care worker introducing herself to not only the prominent family member, but
also the extended family members and children that are also present. This not only increased the
level of comfort and trust between the health care worker and the family, but also opened up
opportunities for further communication. Communication in the hospital is one of the most
important steps, it is vital to be aware of the family and the extra effort that may be required in order
to help everyone feel respected.
Space in Hispanic Culture When it comes to the Hispanic culture, personal space is usually not too
important. Physical touch is held with a lot of value and in turn, most people do not have a lot of
personal space. Same goes with the family, it is not uncommon for a few families to live in the same
house and to share the same spaces. Because of this, there is a natural sense of

Culture : A Personal Interview With A Person Whose Culture...
Culture is too much of a broad topic to be explained in one phrase. Rather it's not only defined as
shared beliefs, values, religions and attitudes, but it's also categorized as, in scientific terms, as
maintaining a group of tissues and cells that are in conditions suitable for growth. In other words,
just as scientific terminology defines culture to be the conditions suitable for tissue growth, the
definition of social culture is conditions suitable for growth in communication and relations. The
objective of this essay is to address differences in culture which is demonstrated from a personal
interview with a person whose culture is different than mine. More specifically, I will define how
culture branches out into subcategories like power distribution, orientation, avoidance, context,
proximities, and intercultural competence (Verderber & Verderber, 2012). Power distribution is
expectations and acceptance of how power is shared unevenly. In correlation to this, there is high
power–distance and low power–distance. High power–distance is natural, it's the recognition of
higher and lower power. In other words, people within the group understand and respect who has
high power and who does not. Places where high power–distance is practiced is the Middle East,
Malaysia, Guatemala, Venezuela and Singapore. Low power–distance is the opposite, rather
everyone within the group expects power to be given and respected evenly. No one stands higher
than anyone else. Low

Personal Essay On Vietnamese Culture
I grew up in Vietnam and came to the United States (U.S.) when I was eleven years old. I have lived
in the U.S. for more than thirty years and have integrated new ideas and contrasting perspectives to
the cultural lessons that I have learned growing up in Vietnam and from my parents. I feel that I
would be most accurate identifying myself as being bicultural. However, I am certain that the first
eleven years of my life have a strong influence on my character, my values, and the person that I am
today. Vietnamese culture is influenced by Confucian philosophical beliefs, where the emphasis is
placed on giving respect to people that are older and a responsible person to our family and society.
It is a patriarchal system where women's roles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I still remember vividly the road leading to my village was lined with bamboos and at the end of the
road was a straw hut with palm thatched roof was where I once called home. Everyone in Vinh Long
during that time endured the same impoverish fate as my family. Our main worries were starvation
and healthcare, but mainly healthcare because rice fields and the Mekong Delta provided an
adequate resource for food. Having witnessed first hand the anguish that people endured from losing
their loved ones made me realized that the best gift to give someone is their health. I knew that I
wanted to pursue a career in healthcare since I was still in Vietnam and continued to nurse this idea
until I have the opportunity to go back to school after I raised my children. When my family came to
the U.S. we lived and continue to live in cities that are considered high–poverty neighborhoods.
Having resided in different underserved areas and utilizing community health centers for my
medical needs have given me insight into the causes of inefficiencies in providing health care
services for those with limited access to such services. This has helped me identify solutions that I
will bring to my work as a health care provider in the underserved

Personal Culture And National Culture
Part B In this paper I will begin by defining personal culture and national culture. After, I will then
elaborate my own personal and national culture. I will continue to talk about the subject with the
person that I have chosen for my cultural group, my mother, and I will identify her personal and
national culture. Lastly, I will talk about my own personality and how it has a connection with my
own natural culture; knowing this is important, it lets us know who we are, and how we act with
people who are from different cultures. Personal culture, is a share combination of an individual's
traits, skills, and personality. It is formed within the context of their ethnic, racial, familial, and
educational environments. Everyone's personal culture is unique to them (Mensah, 2015, CH3 PPT,
Slide 3). I agree with the statement that everyone's personal culture is unique to them because
everyone comes from a different culture, and they are always bound to do something unique that is
different to others. Ever since I can remember, my family and I have always celebrated the common
holidays that occur throughout the year such as; New Year's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial
Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. My family and I
have a strong bond, and when holidays come up we always get together and spend time to celebrate
the holiday. This is how I grew up, and we never done anything different, and being raised with that

Personal Culture And World View
It is a big undertaking to attempt to explain one's culture and world view in a few words. My culture
and world view began within the house I was raised. I come from a white, middle class family, with
a household of 5. My mom and dad both worked very hard to maintain a "middle–class" living
status for their family, and made many sacrifice. Values that were stressed in my household were
loyalty, work ethic, family bonds, and character. Religion did not play a big part in my household
growing up, and lack of religion, or "self–reliance" was stressed more. Both of my parents worked,
however gender roles were pretty obvious in my house. My mother not only worked, but also took
care of many of the household chores, while my father handled lawn work, mechanical tasks, etc.
The biggest world view that sticks out for me that I learned growing up is that if you work hard
enough, you can achieve anything. However, you have to work for it – there are no hand–outs. In
writing this, I can think back to many times where racial, or racist, statements were made in my
house. It can be hard to talk about, and I cannot provide justification for many of the comments. Our
home was about 10 blocks from public housing. I can recall driving past, and many times, my dad
pointing out the fact that "those people" didn't have to work for anything. He would often say, "look,
we are paying for their houses with our tax money, and they drive better cars and wear better clothes
then we do." This had a

Discovering the Impact of Culture on Happiness

  • 1. Essay My Personal Culture Culture defines people's values, beliefs, and personal interests. Culture is important because it allows people to maintain a unique identity society. Many cultures have common interests, while others may have customs that differ greatly from that of another. Technology has had a huge impact on present day cultures. Many culture have been altered including my own, and some have been created due to the rise of technology. Cultures differ so greatly that someone belonging to one culture may not agree with the values of another, which then causes social and ethical issues. My culture shares many similarities with others around the world; most of which have connected more people in recent years than ever before. Cultural gaps, and lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the past, things were primarily about skin color, and issues regarding people of a particular skin color were handled by such, and not ethnicity. Black people were black people, whites were whites, and so on. The point is that by distinguishing myself from a general role, I am able to have my own identity, and I can make choices for my best interest, and not for the majority. In spite of their differences, both African and African–American culture have been able to connect in certain ways in recent years, as well as other cultures. Technology, specifically social media has allowed my generation to connect with one another even with our cultural differences. There is a chemistry that exists within my generation that my parent's generation never could have imagined was possible. The International Association of Business Communicators says "At its core, social media are about sharing information across boundaries. We can now find out what we want from whomever we want. Social media is breaking down hierarchical, regional, age and cultural boundaries" (IABC). Things have changed socially, through digital means, and it's a big part of what makes me and my generation unique. Today, people in the United States can interact and communicate with people from anywhere around the world. • 2. How To Write A Personal Essay About My American Culture As an American who has Russian parents and was born in Israel, I have always been engaged in multiple cultures. My parents have put emphasis on preserving our Russian heritage while encouraging me to immerse myself in American culture. As I stand at the threshold of entering college, I am thrilled by the prospect of becoming acquainted with yet another cultural sphere. Being fluent in both Russian and English has been transformative. Over the course of my life, I have read Pushkin and Hughes, Dostoyevsky and Dickens, Pasternak and Hemingway. Through literature, I have been able to gain insight into the defining themes of two fundamentally different cultures. I have understood the tumults of post–revolutionary Russia and the dejection of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After leaving the Soviet Union and gaining freedom of religion, my parents became devout Russian Orthodox Christians. Nearly every Sunday of my life has been spent in church. My parents have encouraged me to become an active member of my parish: I used my knowledge of Russian to learn the Slavonic alphabet in order to read epistles, psalms, and prayers during each service. Reading these texts over and over again has woven the tenets of my faith into my being. The principle that has resonated with me most is my "golden rule"–that one should not judge others. This mandate to keep an open mind is an integral part of my identity. I strive to accept people and their ideas at face value without any animosity. The "golden rule" makes it possible for me to consider new perspectives without compromising my own beliefs. When I meet someone who holds a viewpoint that differs from mine, I consider these ideas based on their merit, rather than simply putting up a blustering defense of my own views. Listening with an open mind enables me to find the inherent goodness in every person I meet and blend my traditional views with contemporary ideas into a centrist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pasta, the staple meal and often the symbol of Italy, is a so–called "comfort food" – foods that provide consolation or a feeling of well–being, often high in sugar and carbohydrates. The American depression rate is approximately 9.6%, a significantly greater amount than Italy's 3.8%. Important to note is Italy's Mediterranean diet, high in fish and shellfish, which are both high in a fatty acid called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an essential building block for the brain structure. According to a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), there is a link between DHA deficiency and an increase in the prevalence of depression in the United States. One's diet has a huge influence on their happiness and well–being; perhaps if Americans had a more balanced diets, our nation's depression rate would show a decrease. After leaving Italy, Elizabeth Gilbert traveled to India, researching the effects of prayer and religion. Through practicing yoga and meditating in an ashram, to common activities that are a big part of the Indian culture, she reached spiritual enlightenment and created a better relationship with God. Personal Culture And My Family Culture Essay While looking upon my personal culture and my family's culture in an attempt to find appropriate dishes for this assignment, it became apparent to me that I have no definite culture. Whereas I have lived in Canada my whole life, my family's background has engaged me in varying cultures, though I have never felt truly attuned to one culture. On the other hand, my father is a first generation Canadian, his parents both from Scotland. Though aware of my Scottish origins and my grandparents' migration to Canada, Scottish culture has never been explicitly celebrated amongst those in my family. Furthermore, my family previously migrated from Ireland during the Irish famine, resulting in Irish culture to also represented in my family's culture. Variously, my mother's side of the family has lived in Canada for many generations, but I do not consider myself as being authentically Canadian. Accordingly, throughout my childhood, I was never encouraged to celebrate an explicit culture. Furthermore, religion was never prominent in my life either, as my parents decided against baptizing any of my siblings and me, as per the family tradition, because they wished for us to have religious freedom. However, because of the rest of my family's religion, as well as my background, my family has always celebrated Christian holidays, though I have never been to church for a reason other than a wedding. I find that without any cultural ties from my family's history and practices, that the culture I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will use my personal experience of my Arabic culture to provide insights about the issues that culture influences in human relations. I am of Arabic descent. The Arabic culture is one that is rich in history as it is in complexity. It refers to the culture of people that speak the Arabic language mainly within the Western Asia, North Africa, and the Arabian Sea as the main areas of Arabic culture dominance (Mahfouz, 2011). As a result of that, I concluded that by definition Hispanics are U.S citizens whose family background traces back to a Spanish–speaking country. My definition, however, is a vague representation of how my heart truly interprets being Hispanic. I was born and raised the first nine years of my life in Little Village, a town in Chicago that is known for its Hispanic herritage. I, then, lived for 8 years in Archer Heights, a more culturally combined area. I still spent a lot of time in Little Village with family members and playing sports. Culture is the shared characteristics of a group of people which include beliefs, language, values, traditions, rules and laws. Culture can be passed down from generation to generation for instance from parents to children, and since culture is the product of society thus it can grow and be learnt through social interaction. Moreover, the significance of culture is so profound because it plays a big role in helping individuals shape their own identity, the beliefs, values and morals shared from our culture that we have practiced for all our life, can determine who we are as a person and our choices in life. Once culture is a part of your everyday life, you take it with you wherever you go and in some cases you might implement some of the new culture onto your old one. Although I have frequent contact with people of Mexican American heritage either through employment or interaction out in the community, I have a limited understanding of their culture. One characteristic of our risk taking behavior is evident in our entrepreneurship. For instance, a couple of years back, we decided to start a lemonade stand and bake goods outside of our parents' shop. Although we had a plan and carried it out, we knew that reality would get in the way and unpredictable things would happen, but we didn't let that stop us. We continued on with our idea and was willing to accept the challenge we had enforced upon ourselves. We are also always open to unknown situations. An example of our risk–taking behavior is when we decided to create a club at school. We decided to create a club in where we invested time in organizing events to help the homeless. My parents taught me the value of education, as in American culture education is one of the most highly valuable attributed. • 22. My Identity : Family, Culture, And Personal Identity Defining personal identity is to define a personal quality that makes me unique in comparison to my peers. My personal identity has been shaped by many external factors. Some aspects that have influenced what my personal identity is today are family, friends, culture, environment, personal fascination, and consciousness. To truly understand my identity, I have to start at the very beginning. The date was September seventh, 1999. It was a Tuesday, under the sign of Virgo. Bill Clinton was president, Mambo No. 5 was in the top 5 hits in the UK, Jackie Chan directed the most popular movie of the year, Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy was one of the best–selling books, and most importantly I was born. I was born to Shilpa and Ajay Paul in Rockville, Maryland where we lived for three years. When I was three years old my sister was born and my family moved to India. Living in India gave me a lot of what now makes up my cultural identity and taught me a lot about my family and our roots. Despite the great opportunity I was being given, I did not understand the experience of living in India would help me become more in touch with my family and myself. When we moved back to the United States, I did not think I was going to be ostracized for my skin color, my religion, or the way I spoke. We moved to Texas, Portland, to be exact, which is a fairly small town outside of Corpus Christi. There were only two families in Portland who were not white Christians, my family and my cousins, ... I am sure she struggled with this but in all the years growing up I never heard her complain once and she has now become an interpreter for the Deaf as a profession. I am certain that she didn't interpret everything to her parents because uneducated people can be cruel and I am sure she still carries some of that with her. • 24. Personal Narrative: A Sense Of American Culture There are seven billion people in this world. Those of us who come from second generation families often find it difficult to have a sense of cultural identity because they don't quite fit in as Americans whose families have lived in the U.S for generations. First generation families, like my siblings and I, also struggle to fit in. To illustrate, we come from a very diverse background involving Swedish, Arabic, English, and Somali culture. This upbringing has shaped my beliefs, view of the world, and morals to make me the person I am today. Undoubtedly, the time during my childhood was the craziest time of my life. Often during family gatherings, multiple people would yell across the room in a series of multiple languages. Once my Aunt shouted,"Gå få den mat!." As my Aunt started speaking Swedish, I stood there and totally zoned out for the moment. I was trying to comprehend what she was saying, but my brain wouldn't function – it was resisting the oddly unfamiliar words. Halfway across the room, I heard someone call my name awakening me from my kindling thoughts. I turned around, looking precisely at my cousin I saw that she wasn't surrounded by her large groups of siblings. My cousin, named Zeinab, has 8 siblings. At a ... Personal Items that Defined My Culture Essay While our parents offer themselves to help us grow as civilized human beings, one of the most important things they do is present to us our culture. As a small child, my parents introduced me to the world, and what a wonderful place it can or can't be. Different traditions were taught to me throughout my years and these developed into the fundamental ideas for my lifestyle and culture. The idea of culture that we all share is extremely complex, so it is hard to define any parts of it without the use of symbolism. In order to define my culture, I selected three objects to represent me and my culture in a broad spectrum. However odd these objects may seem, I chose an aluminum ring, a computer and a Christmas stocking. These particular items ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the modern day, we use technology to every benefit we can and I am not ashamed of that; my opinion on the use of technology (specifically computers) is that in quantities of moderation, technology can exponentially expand the growth of our civilization. For my second cultural object, I chose my home computer because I can spend upwards of hours upon it each day, primarily doing work or visiting recreational, social websites and games. The renowned scientist Carl Sagan once said, "We've arranged a civilization in which most crucial elements profoundly depend on science and technology." This quotation blatantly applies to modern day society, where it is nearly impossible to communicate with people without an email or cell phone. The laptop is also an immense part of my culture regarding schoolwork, where I need the laptop to access the websites teachers use. With so many hours per day enveloped the laptop, it has grown to be a large part of my daily routine and culture overall. The final object I chose to describe my culture is my Christmas stocking. To me this stocking represents my traditions and faith in an elegant little display. Within the first few months of my birth, my parents had me Baptized as a Roman Catholic and that has been my faith ever since. • 28. Personal Experience : Cultural, Culture, And Socioeconomic... Introduction A person usually lives trying to find a compromise between his own cultural, religious, ethnic, socioeconomic beliefs and those of others. I observed this predominantly when I started my study abroad where my culture has experienced different assessments with only one result: to be included or to go back home. This suffering can be on a small scale affecting one aspect of culture when we agree or disagree with a friend or any affiliate. However, the big cultural challenge is when we face other ethnicities whose culture, religion, social norms, and moralities are different or in most cases are contradicting. Then, our individual intelligences and wisdom appear to be our guidance. The more educated a person is, the faster they interact with others. Culture According to Smith (2004), understanding that we are not the same is significant in bridging cultural barriers and avoiding too many cultural shocks. For example, in Saudi Arabia, a person tries their best to pay the bill in a café or restaurant on behalf of others in a social group. The first day I came to America, I went out with some of my neighbors to a nearby bakery. Each one ordered what they like. When the waiter came with the bill, I snatched it to pay. My group did not fight back to pay the bill and just said, "Thank you!" I was not amazed at all; and it was a very normal thing I did. However, the cultural shock appeared again. After one week, we hanged out again in a different café; and the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Personal Culture : The Importance Of Communication In... Communication in Hispanic Culture When focusing in on communication within Hispanic culture, there are many things that easily go undetected. While explaining differences in communication with Hispanic families, Geri–Ann Galanti (2008) emphasizes the importance of familismo, which many people have never heard of. Familismo is the importance of immediate and extended families in all areas of life, especially communication. In the medical field, this means showing respect and including all family members in relevant conversations. One example Galanti (2008) uses is the gesture of a health care worker introducing herself to not only the prominent family member, but also the extended family members and children that are also present. This not only increased the level of comfort and trust between the health care worker and the family, but also opened up opportunities for further communication. Communication in the hospital is one of the most important steps, it is vital to be aware of the family and the extra effort that may be required in order to help everyone feel respected. Space in Hispanic Culture When it comes to the Hispanic culture, personal space is usually not too important. Physical touch is held with a lot of value and in turn, most people do not have a lot of personal space. Same goes with the family, it is not uncommon for a few families to live in the same house and to share the same spaces. Because of this, there is a natural sense of ... • 34. Culture : A Personal Interview With A Person Whose Culture... Culture is too much of a broad topic to be explained in one phrase. Rather it's not only defined as shared beliefs, values, religions and attitudes, but it's also categorized as, in scientific terms, as maintaining a group of tissues and cells that are in conditions suitable for growth. In other words, just as scientific terminology defines culture to be the conditions suitable for tissue growth, the definition of social culture is conditions suitable for growth in communication and relations. The objective of this essay is to address differences in culture which is demonstrated from a personal interview with a person whose culture is different than mine. More specifically, I will define how culture branches out into subcategories like power distribution, orientation, avoidance, context, proximities, and intercultural competence (Verderber & Verderber, 2012). Power distribution is expectations and acceptance of how power is shared unevenly. In correlation to this, there is high power–distance and low power–distance. High power–distance is natural, it's the recognition of higher and lower power. In other words, people within the group understand and respect who has high power and who does not. Places where high power–distance is practiced is the Middle East, Malaysia, Guatemala, Venezuela and Singapore. Low power–distance is the opposite, rather everyone within the group expects power to be given and respected evenly. No one stands higher than anyone else. Low ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Personal Culture And World View It is a big undertaking to attempt to explain one's culture and world view in a few words. My culture and world view began within the house I was raised. I come from a white, middle class family, with a household of 5. My mom and dad both worked very hard to maintain a "middle–class" living status for their family, and made many sacrifice. Values that were stressed in my household were loyalty, work ethic, family bonds, and character. Religion did not play a big part in my household growing up, and lack of religion, or "self–reliance" was stressed more. Both of my parents worked, however gender roles were pretty obvious in my house. My mother not only worked, but also took care of many of the household chores, while my father handled lawn work, mechanical tasks, etc. The biggest world view that sticks out for me that I learned growing up is that if you work hard enough, you can achieve anything. However, you have to work for it – there are no hand–outs. In writing this, I can think back to many times where racial, or racist, statements were made in my house. It can be hard to talk about, and I cannot provide justification for many of the comments. Our home was about 10 blocks from public housing. I can recall driving past, and many times, my dad pointing out the fact that "those people" didn't have to work for anything.
