My Culture Short Story
My story is that of a young Indian American in San Jose, California, who has a comfortable life and goes to one of the top private schools based in
the bay area. To contrast, my parents were not given such opportunities or such a luxurious life as me; they had to endure a difficult life to get to
where they are. My parents and ancestors come from parts of central India and from quite humble and simple backgrounds. I do not have a
discernible accent and the same applies to my mother and father who were able to break off their Indian accent after nearly 18 years in the United
States since they immigrated from India. I am quite proud to be both American and Indian, and I do not hide any aspect of it. My family and I
celebrate American holidays and historical events yet we stay true to Indian traditions and festivities. My culture has had a profound impact on me
and how I perform my work both inside and outside of school; it has shaped me in terms of my cultural experiences, the roots of my family, and the
values and principles that I have learned from my parents. India is a large and diverse county in Southern Asia with an enormous and fast–growing
population. Each region and state of India has its own identity which is shown in the people, the culture of the region, the religious sphere, and even its
food and delicacies. Many conquerors have carved their way through India like a canvas, including the Macedonians, the Chinese, and the Turks. Each

Essay My Personal Culture
Culture defines people's values, beliefs, and personal interests. Culture is important because it allows people to maintain a unique identity society.
Many cultures have common interests, while others may have customs that differ greatly from that of another. Technology has had a huge impact on
present day cultures. Many culture have been altered including my own, and some have been created due to the rise of technology. Cultures differ so
greatly that someone belonging to one culture may not agree with the values of another, which then causes social and ethical issues. My culture shares
many similarities with others around the world; most of which have connected more people in recent years than ever before. Cultural gaps, and lack of

In the past, things were primarily about skin color, and issues regarding people of a particular skin color were handled by such, and not ethnicity.Black
people were black people, whites were whites, and so on. The point is that by distinguishing myself from a general role, I am able to have my own
identity, and I can make choices for my best interest, and not for the majority.
In spite of their differences, both African and African–American culture have been able to connect in certain ways in recent years, as well as other
cultures. Technology, specifically social media has allowed my generation to connect with one another even with our cultural differences. There is a
chemistry that exists within my generation that my parent's generation never could have imagined was possible. The International Association of
Business Communicators says "At its core, social media are about sharing information across boundaries. We can now find out what we want from
whomever we want. Social media is breaking down hierarchical, regional, age and cultural boundaries" (IABC). Things have changed socially, through
digital means, and it's a big part of what makes me and my generation unique. Today, people in the United States can interact and communicate with
people from anywhere around the world. I listened to some weird electronic music from France one night and it is amazing that I can do that. The

My Personal Culture Essay
My personal culture is influenced by many things, especially by how life treated my parents affected how life treated me. Sometimes life wrecks
your expectations so that it can bring you something greater. My parents faced many obstacles in their life and all they ever wanted was to
prevent them from happening to me. In my personal culture I'm affected by seven criteria: conflict, income, gender, age, disabilities, location and
sexual orientation. These effects made me who I am today. When people hear refugee camp, they usually think about a place where people go to
escape bad situations. I know refugee camp sounds way better than living in a dangerous place but staying at a refugee camp was really hard for
my parents. My parents didn't get to go to school because they couldn't afford it and they didn't have a home. My parents had to work in the rice
field every single day so that they could feed themselves. After working a long day, they had to sleep on dirt. In 2000, my parents got help from the
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to resettle in the United States; I was only nine months old at the time. Because of the
obstacles that my parents faced, my education comes first before anything. Now, and my family, we live in a beautiful house. One day, I want to help
people back in my country. My family went from being poor to being a middle class family. Growing up from a middle class family, I get almost
everything that I want. My parents want me to

An Essay On My Cultural Identity
The idea of cultural identity is your feeling of belonging to a cultural group, the things that separate you from your culture and the things that bring you
together with your culture. Even though members of a culture share some beliefs they aren't exactly the same, this is the concept of cultural identity.
These things that separate you from your culture, forge you into a dynamic and productive member of the same culture. My cultural identity represents
who I am, if I am a productive member of society or not. It represents how I talk, what religion I am and what things I like to do. My cultural identity is
represented by food, generation, nationality, ethnicity, and religion.
First, food plays a minor role in my cultural identity. People in my culture all love seafood,...show more content...
Like I said before, nearly all members of my culture were born in a different generation than me. Since, there is an age gap between my culture and I
there aren't an abundance of people who I can relate to. Most of my family were born in America, around when America was still recovering from the
Great Depression. So they take less for granted than people of my generation. Next, nationality makes up an important part of my cultural identity. My
nationality is American. There are only a few people in my culture whom have different nationalities than I do. They have different customs than I do,
but we share the same religion. They teach me how they did things in their home country compared to how we do things in America. They help shape
my cultural identity by introducing me to different customs. Similarly, ethnicity shares an equally vital role in my cultural identity. My ethnicity is half
African American and half Caucasian. My mother's side of the family teaches me their customs and what foods they like. My father's side of the family
teaches me their customs and how they feel about stereotypes about black

My Cultural Identity Essay examples
My culture identity, as I know it as is African American. My culture can be seen in food, literature, religion, language, the community, family structure,
the individual, music, dance, art, and could be summed up as the symbolic level. Symbolic, because faith plays a major role in our daily lives through
song, prayer, praise and worship. When I'm happy I rely on my faith, same as when I'm sad, for I know things will get better as they have before. There
are different disciplines within the humanities, but there is one that I feel that has influenced my cultural identity the most...music. I say music because
from the start music told my culture's history; informed others about deeds or events that had taken place, also, music was and...show more content...
June 19th was shortened to the name Juneteenth. Those slaves started the celebration that we know and continue today as the Juneteenth
Celebration which is now celebrated all across America, and has now become the African American addendum to our national Independence Day.
(Juneteenth, n.d.) Now, this is what you call a celebration, each year is exciting more and more. I've met a variety of people, from various parts
of Africa, and from many cities in the United States. I would sum it [Juneteenth Festival] up as a huge family reunion in the park. Realizing we
have more in common than not, when I meet new people, I look at them as individuals. I take into consideration the concrete, the behavioral and
the symbolic for they all have their place in a person being who they are. Yes, I wish others could see and gain understanding for other cultures
through my eyes. For example, "it is possible to acquire a new culture by becoming disabled, moving to a new country or region, or by a change in
our economic status. When we think of culture this broadly we realize we all belong to many cultures at once" (Community Tool Box, 2013). Who are
the Lumbee? The largest, most prosperous, educated Indian tribe in North Carolina since the 1700s, whose name is from the Lumbee River is in
Robeson County. The Lumbee people have been recognized

My Culture Essay
What is my culture? Do I even have one? I've asked myself these questions about a million times. In the essay Ethnic Hash, it says, "What were the
flavors, accents, and linguistic trail that were passed down to me over the ages? What were the habits, customs, and common traits of the social
group by which I have been guided in life?" Just like the girl who wrote Ethnic Hash, I have been struggling trying to find out what my culture is.
From the outside, I seem pretty average. I look American and have a slight southern accent, but down here who doesn't? Everyone has a culture,
sometimes it's just hard to recognize it when you're living in the middle of it. Have you ever heard the expression, "You are what you eat"? This holds
true for me, I...show more content...
We have a good system. It is the highlight of my week, we get to catch up with my grandparents while eating delicious food. My mawmaw makes
something special for every occasion; peach cobbler for my pawpaw's birthday, satin pie for my dad's birthday, and shrimp jambalaya when my
aunts come into town. The food my grandmother cooks represents a part of my culture because it represents the time spent with my grandparents
and who they are. And being with my grandparents has definitely influenced who I am. Another part of my culture can be shown through the foods
my dad makes. My dad also really likes to cook, especially grill. He cooks great steaks, makes drunk chicken, and killer burgers. My dad also likes
to work with seafood, he always cooks something good for my aunts when they come into town. Louisiana has the best seafood, hands down. Just
take my word for it. So my aunts that live in Texas don't get to eat good seafood except for when they visit. My dad likes to make something
yummy for them that they don't normally get to eat. He makes grilled and fried fish and shrimp fettuccine, which is cheesy noodles and shrimp, it's
wonderful. Every Sunday night we eat dinner with my grandparents; because my mawmaw and pawpaw cook breakfast on Sunday mornings, we
usually cook dinner. And by we, I mean my dad. Crawfish is very popular down here and rightfully so. Most people that live in Louisiana eat crawfish
annually. This food is a part of Louisiana culture

What Is My Culture Essay
I am familiar with my culture because my grandparents were able to impose their customs onto my parents and their children. Without them I would
not be eating traditional foods, celebrating the Hispanic culture, or be aware of my family history. I am 100% Mexican, and I admire the Latin culture
to the fullest. The Mexican culture consists of a tight family, plentiful cuisine, Spanish language, Latin music, and the Catholic religion. Growing up in
a Mexican household has definitely influenced my morals, values, and character. Although I remain living in a Hispanic household I sometimes forget
how important the culture influences the person I am today.
In the Mexican culture, we cook with many different spices, vegetables, and meats.

I would visit every day afterschool and it was the best adventure running through multiple gardens with different crops. My grandparents grew cactus,
lemons, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and aloe vera plants. It is a small reminder of their ranch in Zacatecas, Mexico and it is also their getaway from the
city. My grandparents grow their own crops because to them it is a hobby, and they are able to sell them when there is an exceeding amount of
harvest. Agriculture is common in most Hispanic families, whether it is owning a simple lemon tree or growing a small aloe vera plant, there is
always something sprouting. I found it unusual that no matter what oppression we were put through we were still able to preserve our most important
customs and values. Many other cultures were stripped of their identities, and till today we are able to pass down our traditions. Learning about how
my family traveled from deep into Mexico to Southern California brining their culture with them is amazing. Being able to speak a different language
with people that share the same ethnicity reminds me of how special my cultural identity is. The Mexican culture is rich of culture has not been

My Culture Reflection
My Culture
We all have lenses through which we view the world from, in a general statement, there all diffrent. Some can be brutal but raw and others sensitive and
delightful. With this information, I invite you to take a small look into my culture.
I was born in Los Angeles and continue to live here. I came from a Mexican Mother and Father. I had a nice childhood from what I can remember. I
am the smallest out of four sisters and boy was I a brat, although I am still a little punk I now have self–control.
I was taught manners and respect at a young age. I was taught no elbows on the dining table, always say please and thank you, never raise your voice,
be the bigger person etc. I was taught to be patients although I am nowhere near to be a patient person. I try and that's what matters.
Trying new things is great but staying in your state of mind is even better. I have both bad and good habits and both bad and good traditions. An
example of a bad addition is my family waking me up at five in the morning to sing happy birthday. No it's not horrible but a girl loves her slumber .
I don't complain about it either I wake up and get my day started along with the rest of Halloween . One tradition that I like is traveling to lots of cool
places.
Mexico is one of my family's favorite spots to stay. We have a nice house there and everyone that lives in The RaГ±cho is somehow related to me. I
feel safe there and so does my family. I am a proud Mexican and not many people can say. My

Cultures differ so greatly that someone belonging to one culture may not agree with the values of another, which then causes social and ethical issues. My culture shares many similarities with others around the world; most of which have connected more people in recent years than ever before. Cultural gaps, and lack of ...show more content... In the past, things were primarily about skin color, and issues regarding people of a particular skin color were handled by such, and not ethnicity.Black people were black people, whites were whites, and so on. The point is that by distinguishing myself from a general role, I am able to have my own identity, and I can make choices for my best interest, and not for the majority. In spite of their differences, both African and African–American culture have been able to connect in certain ways in recent years, as well as other cultures. Technology, specifically social media has allowed my generation to connect with one another even with our cultural differences. There is a chemistry that exists within my generation that my parent's generation never could have imagined was possible. The International Association of Business Communicators says "At its core, social media are about sharing information across boundaries. We can now find out what we want from whomever we want. Social media is breaking down hierarchical, regional, age and cultural boundaries" (IABC). Things have changed socially, through digital means, and it's a big part of what makes me and my generation unique. Today, people in the United States can interact and communicate with people from anywhere around the world. I listened to some weird electronic music from France one night and it is amazing that I can do that. The internet has Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Personal Culture Essay My personal culture is influenced by many things, especially by how life treated my parents affected how life treated me. Sometimes life wrecks your expectations so that it can bring you something greater. My parents faced many obstacles in their life and all they ever wanted was to prevent them from happening to me. In my personal culture I'm affected by seven criteria: conflict, income, gender, age, disabilities, location and sexual orientation. These effects made me who I am today. When people hear refugee camp, they usually think about a place where people go to escape bad situations. I know refugee camp sounds way better than living in a dangerous place but staying at a refugee camp was really hard for my parents. My parents didn't get to go to school because they couldn't afford it and they didn't have a home. My parents had to work in the rice field every single day so that they could feed themselves. After working a long day, they had to sleep on dirt. In 2000, my parents got help from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to resettle in the United States; I was only nine months old at the time. Because of the obstacles that my parents faced, my education comes first before anything. Now, and my family, we live in a beautiful house. One day, I want to help people back in my country. My family went from being poor to being a middle class family. Growing up from a middle class family, I get almost everything that I want. My parents want me to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. An Essay On My Cultural Identity The idea of cultural identity is your feeling of belonging to a cultural group, the things that separate you from your culture and the things that bring you together with your culture. Even though members of a culture share some beliefs they aren't exactly the same, this is the concept of cultural identity. These things that separate you from your culture, forge you into a dynamic and productive member of the same culture. My cultural identity represents who I am, if I am a productive member of society or not. It represents how I talk, what religion I am and what things I like to do. My cultural identity is represented by food, generation, nationality, ethnicity, and religion. First, food plays a minor role in my cultural identity. People in my culture all love seafood,...show more content... Like I said before, nearly all members of my culture were born in a different generation than me. Since, there is an age gap between my culture and I there aren't an abundance of people who I can relate to. Most of my family were born in America, around when America was still recovering from the Great Depression. So they take less for granted than people of my generation. Next, nationality makes up an important part of my cultural identity. My nationality is American. There are only a few people in my culture whom have different nationalities than I do. They have different customs than I do, but we share the same religion. They teach me how they did things in their home country compared to how we do things in America. They help shape my cultural identity by introducing me to different customs. Similarly, ethnicity shares an equally vital role in my cultural identity. My ethnicity is half African American and half Caucasian. My mother's side of the family teaches me their customs and what foods they like. My father's side of the family teaches me their customs and how they feel about stereotypes about black Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Cultural Identity Essay examples My culture identity, as I know it as is African American. My culture can be seen in food, literature, religion, language, the community, family structure, the individual, music, dance, art, and could be summed up as the symbolic level. Symbolic, because faith plays a major role in our daily lives through song, prayer, praise and worship. When I'm happy I rely on my faith, same as when I'm sad, for I know things will get better as they have before. There are different disciplines within the humanities, but there is one that I feel that has influenced my cultural identity the most...music. I say music because from the start music told my culture's history; informed others about deeds or events that had taken place, also, music was and...show more content... June 19th was shortened to the name Juneteenth. Those slaves started the celebration that we know and continue today as the Juneteenth Celebration which is now celebrated all across America, and has now become the African American addendum to our national Independence Day. (Juneteenth, n.d.) Now, this is what you call a celebration, each year is exciting more and more. I've met a variety of people, from various parts of Africa, and from many cities in the United States. I would sum it [Juneteenth Festival] up as a huge family reunion in the park. Realizing we have more in common than not, when I meet new people, I look at them as individuals. I take into consideration the concrete, the behavioral and the symbolic for they all have their place in a person being who they are. Yes, I wish others could see and gain understanding for other cultures through my eyes. For example, "it is possible to acquire a new culture by becoming disabled, moving to a new country or region, or by a change in our economic status. When we think of culture this broadly we realize we all belong to many cultures at once" (Community Tool Box, 2013). Who are the Lumbee? • 6. My Culture Essay What is my culture? Do I even have one? I've asked myself these questions about a million times. In the essay Ethnic Hash, it says, "What were the flavors, accents, and linguistic trail that were passed down to me over the ages? What were the habits, customs, and common traits of the social group by which I have been guided in life?" Just like the girl who wrote Ethnic Hash, I have been struggling trying to find out what my culture is. From the outside, I seem pretty average. I look American and have a slight southern accent, but down here who doesn't? Everyone has a culture, sometimes it's just hard to recognize it when you're living in the middle of it. Have you ever heard the expression, "You are what you eat"? This holds true for me, I...show more content... We have a good system. It is the highlight of my week, we get to catch up with my grandparents while eating delicious food. My mawmaw makes something special for every occasion; peach cobbler for my pawpaw's birthday, satin pie for my dad's birthday, and shrimp jambalaya when my aunts come into town. The food my grandmother cooks represents a part of my culture because it represents the time spent with my grandparents and who they are. And being with my grandparents has definitely influenced who I am. Another part of my culture can be shown through the foods my dad makes. My dad also really likes to cook, especially grill. He cooks great steaks, makes drunk chicken, and killer burgers. My dad also likes to work with seafood, he always cooks something good for my aunts when they come into town. Louisiana has the best seafood, hands down. Just take my word for it. So my aunts that live in Texas don't get to eat good seafood except for when they visit. My dad likes to make something yummy for them that they don't normally get to eat. He makes grilled and fried fish and shrimp fettuccine, which is cheesy noodles and shrimp, it's wonderful. Every Sunday night we eat dinner with my grandparents; because my mawmaw and pawpaw cook breakfast on Sunday mornings, we usually cook dinner. And by we, I mean my dad. Crawfish is very popular down here and rightfully so. Most people that live in Louisiana eat crawfish annually. This food is a part of Louisiana culture Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. What Is My Culture Essay I am familiar with my culture because my grandparents were able to impose their customs onto my parents and their children. Without them I would not be eating traditional foods, celebrating the Hispanic culture, or be aware of my family history. I am 100% Mexican, and I admire the Latin culture to the fullest. The Mexican culture consists of a tight family, plentiful cuisine, Spanish language, Latin music, and the Catholic religion. Growing up in a Mexican household has definitely influenced my morals, values, and character. Although I remain living in a Hispanic household I sometimes forget how important the culture influences the person I am today. I would visit every day afterschool and it was the best adventure running through multiple gardens with different crops. My grandparents grew cactus, lemons, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and aloe vera plants. It is a small reminder of their ranch in Zacatecas, Mexico and it is also their getaway from the city. My grandparents grow their own crops because to them it is a hobby, and they are able to sell them when there is an exceeding amount of harvest. Agriculture is common in most Hispanic families, whether it is owning a simple lemon tree or growing a small aloe vera plant, there is always something sprouting. I found it unusual that no matter what oppression we were put through we were still able to preserve our most important customs and values. Many other cultures were stripped of their identities, and till today we are able to pass down our traditions. Learning about how my family traveled from deep into Mexico to Southern California brining their culture with them is amazing. Being able to speak a different language with people that share the same ethnicity reminds me of how special my cultural identity is. • 8. My Culture Reflection My Culture We all have lenses through which we view the world from, in a general statement, there all diffrent. Some can be brutal but raw and others sensitive and delightful. With this information, I invite you to take a small look into my culture. I was born in Los Angeles and continue to live here. I came from a Mexican Mother and Father. I had a nice childhood from what I can remember. I am the smallest out of four sisters and boy was I a brat, although I am still a little punk I now have self–control. I was taught manners and respect at a young age. I was taught no elbows on the dining table, always say please and thank you, never raise your voice, be the bigger person etc. I was taught to be patients although I am nowhere near to be a patient person. I try and that's what matters. Trying new things is great but staying in your state of mind is even better. I have both bad and good habits and both bad and good traditions. An example of a bad addition is my family waking me up at five in the morning to sing happy birthday. No it's not horrible but a girl loves her slumber . I don't complain about it either I wake up and get my day started along with the rest of Halloween . One tradition that I like is traveling to lots of cool places. Mexico is one of my family's favorite spots to stay. We have a nice house there and everyone that lives in The RaГ±cho is somehow related to me. I feel safe there and so does my family. I am a proud Mexican and not many people can say. My Get more content on HelpWriting.net
