Negative Effects Of Technology On Society
Nowadays it is almost impossible for many people to do their works and spend their days without using any kind of technology. According to Savanah
Guthrie, an American journalist " a recent survey found that people check their phones up to hundred fifty times a day. We talk, text, listen to music,
surf the web, take pictures, oh, and then we share it all on social media." Many people think of technology in a negative way. They think technology
makes people create their own world and it make them alone. Even though technology has some negative effects on society, it has also a positive
impact on the way people communicate. Technology makes it possible for people to enrich their relationships and for disabled people to overcome
their disabilities. Today with many communication applications available people are able to easily stay in touch over long distances. Social media
depends highly on technology. The development of technology impacts social media. Social media makes it possible for people to stay in touch.
Communicating through mobiles at any time of the day through hundreds of applications are the outcome of technology. Except getting in touch with
everyone in every part of the world, social media has provided the opportunity of making new friends, except friends many wives and husbands have
known each other through social media. In addition, technology makes it possible for people to participate in different community activities from all
over the world. People

Themes Of Voyeurism In Peeping Tom
Helens blind mother, Mrs. Stephens, in the movie Peeping Tom, plays a crucial role in enticing Michael Powell's major themes of voyeurism and
fear, and is the only character who is able to bring a deeper understanding of Mark as a person and the humanity he hides deep within his childhood.
Film scholar Linda Williams has observed that silent films in the early 1900's often portrayed the heroin to be naГЇve and figuratively or even
physically blind. This rests on the concept of voyeurism and objectification of women as well as the fact that women exist solely for the purpose to
be looked at and are not in the position to "see" for pleasure themselves. The true satisfaction attained during voyeuristic activities is from the victim
being unaware of being watched; making a "blind" woman an ideal victim for a voyeur because of their inability to detect being watched. However,
Mark does not kill Mrs. Stephens because even though he prepares to kill her at one point, he realizes that she is unable to watch her own death due to
her blindness, thus not contributing to his film and experiment. This shows that Mark is not an ordinary Peeping Tom, and that his voyeurism stems
primarily from his childhood and the filmed episodes of his life that his father directed. His perverted acts of voyeurism and violence are for purposes
much larger than just his own pleasure.
An important quote in the movie is when Mark asks, "Do you know what the most frightening thing in the world is?" and he

Introduction. My Relationship Development Paper Is About
INTRODUCTION
My relationship development paper is about a girl named Breana Young; our friendship was for about 3 years. The current stage is terminated.
INITIATING
I had first met Breana in the fifth grade; although we weren't in the same class, I had met her at recess. The elementary school we went to was pretty
small so everyone in the same grade nearly knew everyone. We would occasionally make awkward eye contact but never have actual conversation.
Fast forward to the eighth grade, Breana was friends with an old friend of mine named Nina, so I was seeing her more and more often. Now that Nina
and Breana had become friends, Breana would sometimes eat lunch with Nina and I. She seemed pretty cool; I didn't know her very well so ... Show

Although we had two of the same classes and saw each other every day, we'd only speak in forensic science because we sat next to each other.
Throughout forensic science we'd exchange laughs about the teachers we had and other students. One day Breana called me by surprise, I wasn't
expecting this because we usually only spoke in school or texted each other about school work. During the conversation we were discussing the
upcoming homecoming dance and we began to talk about our family dynamic and what our home life is like. As we were on the phone Breana
asked me to join her at Eleanor Roosevelt's homecoming football game, this was the first time we had ever hung out with each other outside of
school. After the game her mom picked us up, this was the first time I had ever met her; after her mom picked us up we had gone to her aunt's house
where I had met more of her family.
According to Johari's window the open box has grown larger because we are now exchanging personal information and more details about each other.
The hidden box is still there because I'm not fully comfortable with her yet and haven't spent much time with her outside of school. The blind box exists
because it contains Breana's first impression about me and other feelings about me that I'm unaware of.
INTENSIFYING
As my junior year was coming to an end I realized that I made a new friend, Breana. It was to my surprise because I had a

The Impact Of Pop Industry On The Music Industry
When discussing the pop–industry today a general belief seems to form, that young musicians who grew up with either rich or famous parents
compose the majority of the industry. On the other hand, the alternative genres of music are typically made up of people who grew up in the
middle–class or lower class. Unfortunately their music never finds a market or receives play on the radio. That said, technical avenues still exist for the
alternative artist to make music. Twitter, Spotify and Apple Music offer opportunities for amusician to promote their music. Also, live gigs and
collaborations help boost a person's music profile. Unfortunately, even with these benefits, many musicians cannot make enough money to support their

Despite this challenge, Ed Sheeran set out to do just that. His mom helped by limiting his tv media "We didn't own a video games console and I
honestly think that was one of the best things my mum never did"(Webster).Shortly after his meeting with Rice, Ed Sheeran put out the EP, The
Orange Room. Due to limitations by his family, Ed Sheeran moved out of his home in 2006 and headed towards London's underground independent
music scene.
After touring the London singer–songwriter circuit for a year, Sheeran pulled together a small starting fanbase. However, after a year making next to
no money, he found himself on the streets of London. He wrote two notable songs about living on those streets. In one, "The City" (Sheeran), he recalls
the many of the aspects of living in London. During the song, he relates city life to country life, and how unnatural pavement feels. In the song
"Homeless" (Sheeran), Sheeran expresses life on the streets using quotes. While homeless, the singer–songwriter slept on a number of friends' couches
while trying to write music.
Ed Sheeran considered changing careers after struggling to make money and a period of couch surfing (Showbiz). " ' 'There came a point when I
wanted to quit. When I thought, 'This is horrible. This isn 't going to work"(Showbiz). Later, Sheeran decided to continue to weather the storm. When
his friends couldn't take him in, he would sleep on the subway. He would then

Erin Mccandrew Research Paper
Since I am a musician myself, I derive immense joy from discovering up and coming musicians with genuine talent and fierce determination. And Erin
McAndrew is certainly all that and more. Recently, I was able to ask her a few questions about how she got started in music, her involvement in the
music industry so far, and what she has planned for the near (and even distant) future.

RH: What inspired you to become a musician? What were your early music influences?

While social media and digital music has given fans more access to music, ensuring that one's music is heard above the maddening crowd can be a
seemingly insurmountable task. Thankfully, the undaunted Erin has made the decision to leap into this industry, and the desire of her heart is to
make a living doing what she loves to do. She is enamored with the arts, and as she shares her gifts with the world, she recognizes that in order to be
a success in this business, she must have patience and take each and every opportunity for advancement that she can. Already she is setting herself
apart by utilizing YouTube as a place to display her array of talents, and while some days it might be an uphill battle, she has the positive attitude and
sunny disposition (not to mention the energy and optimism of youth) to guarntee that she continues her quest of accomplishing every dream within her
heart. While she is far from a household name in music, she seems to understand even at her age that overnight success is a myth, and she is aware of
the fact that perseverance is the key to success. I would invite everyone to check out her music and social media accounts below so that you may
experience her talent firsthand and support this young musician. Furthermore, you

The Importance Of Psychological Awareness In Raymond...
Psychological Awareness What do you think of when you think of the 80's? Girls dressed in bright neon clothes that had shoulder pads and leg
warmers, with hair teased so high it didn't look natural, and wearing bright blue or pink eyeshadow? Or maybe boys in all denim, pinned to look
tight jeans with an oversized denim jacket? It was a time for fashion and music to thrive. It was completely normal to be "all about me" in the 80's.
Raymond Carver's Cathedral was written in 1983, and the narrator is very self absorbed and insular. This coincides with the ambience of the time
period, reflecting the majority of society. The narrator's wife has an old friend, who happens to be blind. His wife has just died, so he is going to
stay with the narrator and his wife for a bit. The narrator is very passive aggressive towards him and even pulls childish pranks on him. Eventually the
two are left alone and the narrator realizes how narrow–minded he has been his entire life. In Carver's Cathedral, the narrator's lack of social depth and
tolerance for others mimics that of the societal norm, which reverses when his wife's blind friend, Robert, strains the narrator's mentality.
The narrator is a characterized representation of society, and how society can change when immersed in deviant lifestyles. According to Kirk Nesset
(1994), "Still, Carver implies, it is through our collaboration with others that we free ourselves from the slavery of self–absorption" (para 30). This
means that

The Gap Between Vocal And Instrumental Instruction
Throughout the beginning of music education, there has been a divide. A separation between the lands of vocalists and instrumentalists existed and
still exists today. While it isn't a conscience happening at all times, it can divide a music program into two separate entities. Figuring out how the two
areas can coincide will ultimately get music educators on the right tracks for building an excelling program. When students feel that they can be in both
and feel wanted in each area and not feel tension between the directors and the music choices, they can thrive. Removing the gap between vocal and
instrumental instruction can be done by researching alike techniques and implementing the coinciding department into either program.

With woodwind players, tone can be changed by simply changing the space in the throat and mouth. The same can be said of brass players, but one
other aspect lies in the amount of space between the teeth. If enough space between the teeth is not present, especially with young brass players, an
unpleasant buzzing sound will occur, once again hindering a beautiful tone. The directors of vocalists push and push for more space in the mouth and
throat, especially with young singers that want to sound like the next greatest pop artist. The music performed in the context of concerts and contests at
the high school and middle school level, however, need just the opposite.
The last way technique overlaps, is in the use of warmups, and technical exercises. Instrumentalists use these on a reoccurring basis for warmups
before rehearsal. Scales are learned at a brisk tempo for auditions and at the collegiate level, technique books and extended technique exercises are
studied. These are used to not only warm up air, but to also warm up the fingers and gain dexterity. For vocalists, similar processes occur. Before
rehearsing, vocalists use warmups; most of which are based on scales, arpeggios and other theory points. They are used to warm up the voice, and get
performers aware of their breathing and voice flexibility. All of these are extremely similar to their voice counterparts. Some

connecting with the words that are written is what's important and it's not all about just playing the notes that are right in front of him. This seemed to
be a big step in his music career and I'm sure it helped to open his mind up to new ideas and new ways of playing such as incorporating improvisation
into his music and making the music his own. In addition, he learned what it was like to be in a big band and follow along with other musicians in
the band such as Dizzy. By watching the other members and how they played, he learned how important it is to have a good connection with band
members and be able to follow along with the different cues and physical movements that Dizzy gave. For example, Lateef explained how the

Free Music Allowed on the Internet?
Technology is a huge part of our lives today. So much of what we do involves the use of the computer. Things that we never thought would be
available to us over the computer are now there, so why not be able to download free music from your favorite artists? Artists as well as the record
companies need to see the growth of technology as a good thing, and use it to their advantage so they do not miss out on the inevitable benefits.
Many artists and record companies do not think that it is a good thing to have their music available for free because they feel that they will lose a lot
of money. The thing that they need to realize is that technology is only going to get better and they need to use it... Show more content on

What Napster actually does is provide access to nearly every recording anyone oculd want. Napster has not copied or accumulated any of the
recordings available from it; it simply helps people to seek the music that they want. It has music available that may not be available anywhere else,
and it offers instant connection. It allows someone to listen to a song and check out the artist before spending eighteen dollars on the CD. It is like a
"library," where everyone connected "shares" songs with one another. Artists, such as Metallica, who sued Napster, believed their songs were "being
given away and the 'library' as ill–gotten pirate booty."
Another reason why the Recording Industry says that free music should not be allowed is because of the copyright law. In the article, "Chained
melodies" by Damien Cave he discusses the copyright law. Many of the CDs that are coming out these days are being copy–protected. This means that
you are not able to download them onto your computer and put them onto your MP3 player. This is done so that music cannot be downloaded onto
the computer. The problem is that many of the people who would want to download the music are not interested in pirating, they just want to
download it onto their MP3 players and the new CDs will not allow it. Computer Programmers will eventually find a way to unlock the encryption,
and get it to work so that they are able to download their

Malala Yousafzai's Impact On The World
"Today on my first day as an adult, on behalf of the world's children, I demand of leaders we must invest in books instead of bullets." This quote was
said by Malala Yousafzai, a young woman who in her teenage years was an advocate for education and peace, and still continues to make a significant
impact on the world. Malala and two other people, Easton LaChappelle and Louis Braille, are proof that teenagers can make a meaningful difference in
this world. Malala Yousafzai was born July 12, 1997 in Mingora, Pakistan. Malala attended a school founded by her father that allowed girls to join.
Even in her early years she became an advocate for girl's education, and she in September 2008 even gave a speech condemning the Taliban's attack
on school girls. This is a very brave and daring thing to do; she spoke out against the Taliban. She inspired many people with her courage, and she
continued her support for education. Because of her ongoing defiance of Taliban control and her passion for peace and education, in 2011, Malala got
death threats from the Taliban. Then, on October 9, 2012, she was shot on the bus on her way home from school. She was shot in the left side of her
head, and was left in critical condition. After recovering in March of 2013 in Birmingham, England, she attended school in Birmingham. Even after
this, she persevered, and continued to be vocal about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

adulthood." So, teenagers are more likely to be bad decision makers. Regardless of this fact, teenagers can make a difference, and thanks to Malala,

Music Streaming : How Can They Not Carry Those Amazing...
He can still remember it as if it was yesterday – how he had his heart broken for the first time and not tell anyone. Through his growing years, his
mom bought him numerous records of his favorite artists. He loved it dearly and listened to it every day. When he realized that some of it had been
broken, he tried searching for new copies on record stores, but he was not able to find any. On the back of his mind, he was asking, "How can they
not carry those amazing records anymore?" However, all those years of pain were momentarily forgotten when music streaming was introduced in the

to pursue a music career, while their parents or family members might be pulling them in the opposite direction to be come a dotor, buniness man or

In fact this is probably the number one thing that dicourages musiccians when they are first starting out. All of us have heard about bands making a
huge profit off a record deal that they singed with. Unforunately this is not the case for most of us. Pretty much all recording company have a
contract of some sort. As little as 14% of those rolaities actual make it back to the artist (Yeh;). Even after all those deductions the artist still owes a
recording fee which takes more away forom that 14% leaving a vey little profit to be made. Cohen thinks you can avoid the major record labels by
recording your own music, but even indie music has had struggles recently. A well know indiemusician Cat Power who had a top selling album in
2013 recently had to drop out of the sence because aof going brankrupt. "It 's no shock to learn that musicians lead financially precarious lives, but
the thought of an artist as big as Cat Power going broke is particularly disheartening" (Wagner). Tomkiel argues against this in that is not impossible
to make a good living in music you just have to really know the industry inside and out and figure out ways of doing things that have a different
approach from what others are doing. Following our passion in life is something we all strive to accomplish. Whether it be sports, music, teaching, or

Essay about Lack of Vision in Carver's Cathedral
Lack of Vision in Cathedral
The narrator in Raymond Carver's "Cathedral" is not a particularly sensitive man. I might describe him as self–centered, superficial, and egotistical.
And while his actions certainly speak to these points, it is his misunderstanding of the people and the relationships presented to him in this story which
show most clearly his tragic flaw: while Robert is physically blind, it is the narrator who cannot clearly see the world around him.
In the eyes of the narrator, Robert's blindness is his defining characteristic. The opening line of "Cathedral" reads, "This blind man, an old friend of my
wife's, he was on his way to spend the night" (1052). Clearly, the narrator cannot see past Robert's disability; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The narrator's naivete leaves him amazed by Robert, who does things which the narrator would view as atypical of the blind. This reinforces the idea
that the narrator is blind to the reality of the world.
The narrator's blindness is certainly not limited to Robert–he no better understands the relationship between his wife and the blind man:
They'd become good friends, my wife and the blind man. . . . On her last day in the office, the blind man asked if he could touch her face . . . .She
told me he touched his fingers to every part of her face . . . .She never forgot it. She even tried to write a poem about it . . . .She wrote a poem or
two every year, usually after something really important had happened to her. When we first started going out together, she showed me the poem . . . I
can remember I didn't think much of the poem . . . Maybe I just don't understand poetry (Carver 1053).
While the narrator realizes that his wife's relationship with Robert is important to her, he cannot understand why. Under other circumstances, the
narrator's wife's descriptions of experiences that summer and Robert's friendship and advice through her marriages might have left him enlightened as
to the depth of their relationship. But here, despite all evidence to the contrary, the narrator (ultimately because of his prejudice) has ruled out Robert as
a thoughtful, consequential person. He cannot comprehend that a blind man is capable of touching

The Theme Of Blindness In 'Cathedral' By Raymond Carver
As we gain knowledge we gain understanding, giving us a different view of the world. In the story, "Cathedral" by Raymond Carver, the author takes
us through a day in the life of a husband who is forced by his wife to meet and entertain her longtime friend Robert– who happens to be blind. The
husband is not exactly excited by this visit. The author illustrates the characters' development beginning as apprehensive and jealous, transitioning to
more of an uncomfortable feeling, and finally ending with acceptance as the husband is put into a situation where he gains a new understanding of the
blind man. He ends the story with his eyes closed and a mind open to a new view of the world.
As the story begins, the author seems to portray the main character as apprehensive and jealous. As he narrates the story, the husband opens with a
blunt statement, "his being blind bothered me." (34) It immediately gives the reader the impression that he was very upset about the situation he was
put in. The husband seems more concerned with the fact that the man is blind and states later that his "idea of blindness came from movies." (34)
Giving once again an example of how uncomfortable and really uninformed he was. The husband has a stereotypical view of what a blind person
should be like and sticks to those thoughts throughout the beginning of the story. This gives the impression that he feels that blindness is more of a
handicap and make Robert unrelatable. He also seemed to be jealous of the

More than one million Americans suffer from blindness, a severe vision impairment (Marcovitz 6). Blindness can be caused from an accident or a
disease (10). One victim of blindness, Stevie Wonder, has overcome it by making music and performing. His positive outlook on life helps him
achieve many things (79). Being blind means a person is sightless or is unable to distinguish dark colors from light colors, but they can still overcome
it (Dahl). Eye diseases, like glaucoma and cataracts, can be causes of blindness. Symptoms of glaucoma may include headaches, pain in the eyes, or

In future technology, surgeries, such as implant surgery and transplantation of retinal tissue may help blind people (Marcovitz 73, 76). In 1831 Perkins
School for the Blind was the first school to help blind people read, communicate, and speak. Later, Louis Braille discovered Braille, a code using dots
and dashes for the alphabet (34). When rubbing fingers across it, the markings indicate certain numbers or letters (33). Guide dogs can also aid
the blind when walking around so they know where to go (45). Groups such as the American Foundation for the Blind and National Federation of
the Blind help provide assistance and new laws for blind people and their families (41). Preventing eye disease and blindness is important. Wearing
protective eyewear, and practicing healthy habits like exercising and eating well (Marcovitz 68) can prevent blindness. Getting regular eye exams
(Worth) can also help detect it earlier as well (Dahl). There are many people worldwide and in America who are blind. About fifty million people
around the world (Dahl) and over one million Americans (Marcovitz 6) are totally blind (Dahl). Therefore, it is essential to take steps to prevent
blindness. Stevie Wonder, one of the many affected by blindness, was born on May 13, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan where his love for music began.
Wonder was born prematurely and has been blind since infancy because the blood vessels in his eyes were not fully developed (Marcovitz 6) but, he

Music Piracy Should be Illegal
Many people are in discord with the polemical statement, music piracy should be legalised. It is a topic that provokes arguments, as some believe that
it should be free and accessible whereas others believe that it should be paid for and should remain illegitimate.
Music piracy is the act of illegally downloading music for free, bilking sites such as iTunes and iMesh that lawfully sell music to millions of people
worldwide. It is one of the most frequently committed crimes. According to an article in the newspaper 'The Guardian' in 2009, ninety–five per cent of
music available online is downloaded illegally with no payments made to the artist and over 40 billion files were illegally shared in 2008. It may be
a free service but is it ethical? Is it something that society should continue to do or something that should be discouraged? The downloading of songs
using the Internet is a large source of income for musicians. Without this, they would not be earning as much as they currently are. If artists begin to lose
money to pay record labels and advertisers, loyal fans end up paying more money to help support their favourite artists. It can be argued that many
renowned and creditable musicians earn the majority of their money from tours and concerts rather than sales. However, there are also an abundant
number of musicians who have neither the money nor the fame to go on tour. Therefore, if the revenue from sales is taken away from them, they could

Streaming Stereotypes
Some would say that there is music all around, in commercials, in movies, in tv shows, even in grocery stores. There are many ways to listen to
music, various streaming apps such as Spotify, pandora, YouTube, all of these sites allow people to stream artists music for free. It has been said
before that someone has founded their favorite song in a commercial or in a bizarre place that surrounds many human lives. Although a group of the
population does not agree with this tactic of publicity. In fact a few artist have taken the right of publicizing their music on streaming apps due to loss
of revenue. This can leave a hole between the fan and the artist rather than communicating an interaction with them. Apps such as Spotify and iTunes

By allowing streaming of music decrease of income is a risk and a likely one. Tours are known to be more difficult because with less money after
all of the cost not much is left. Downloading is much more beneficial to the artists and allows them to do more tours. Most streaming apps you
cannot use without internet or data either way but when you down load a song you can listen to it anytime you like. Yes those are negative sides to
streaming but people make it seem as if downloading is free when it's not. To cancel streaming to fans because they don't have money to pay and have
to stream songs is somewhat like discrimination against the less wealthy, might as well just say "oh you can't pay to listen to my song? Oh

Analysis Of Raymond Carver 's Cathedral
Pastor Bonhoeffer once said, "Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging other's, we blind ourselves to our own evil
and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are." The way we treat people reflects on ourselves. The way the world judges and
condemns each other is very true and an everyday reality for most. The same could be said about people who are limited by one or more of their six
senses and are judged by the majority of the population who are not limited and make preconceived notions about these limitations which can bind
them. Raymond Carver's "Cathedral" explores many literary devices that reveal the pre conceived perception towards people with physical limitations
without understanding the individual first, which is still a problem today.
The protagonist, the narrator is closed minded and lacks communication with his wife, which clearly exhibits the distance and troubles in their
relationship. The narrator is not happy with having the blind man, Robert, who he sees as a stranger over in his home which stirs up more trouble with
his wife. '"You don't have any friends, she said. Period, she said, "goddamn it, his wife's just died! Don't you understand that? The man's lost his wife"'
(Carver 107). The wife is obviously mad with her husband who doesn't understand the close relationship she has with Robert, which is a mutual
understanding. Throughout their limited conversation the narrator asks about Roberts wife who has just

Epiphany In Raymond Carver's 'Cathedral'
Raymond Carver's "Cathedral" is a short story that unfolds through the perspective of Bub. The story begins by depicting Bub's narrow mindedness
and as the story progresses it becomes clear that his perspective shifts after an encounter with his wife's blind friend Robert. It is through this encounter
that Bub has an epiphany. It is his jealousy towards Robert and intoxication that debunk his preconceived notations and highlight the connection
between him and Robert. It is only after his epiphany that he is drawn out of this obliviousness and gains insight. Bub's wife, his smoking, and
drinking are key elements in breaking apart his bias and as a result he is enlightened.
Bub's epiphany helps him realize how Robert mirrors his life. The first indication of this was the jealousy he felt when his wife told him about her last
day working with Robert. "On her last day last day in the office, the blind man asked if he could touch her face. She told me he touched his fingers to
every part of her face, her nose––even her neck! She never forgot it"(pg. 3). The narrator's jealousy was triggered because the thought of another male
touching his wife bothered him. The mere fact that it was a she could never forget, it hit him hard. This emotional reaction shows that either the
narrator doesn't connect with his wife on an intimate level or he never cared for how his wife felt intimately until she spoke of another male and how
his touch was unforgettable.
Another factor in Bub's enlightenment was the consumption of alcohol. "I was having a drink and watching TV when I heard the car pull into the
drive. I got up off the sofa with my drink and went to the window to have a look"( 5). His constant drinking helped to slowly lowered the walls that he
had up. Before becoming intoxicated, Bub held several preconceived notions about blindness. He felt that Robert's blindness hindered him from his
daily activities such as eating, "The blind man had right away located his foods, he knew just where everything was on his plate. I watched with
admiration as he used his knife and fork on the meat" (pg. 7). The narrator was astonished, he didn't expect Robert to be able to locate the food on his
plate nor did he expect him to find and

The Enterprising Musicians : An Entrepreneur Thinker
The Enterprising Musician Essay
Entrepreneurs are people, who create opportunities for themselves, risk takers, innovative, creative, always favor challenges of medium risk, and are
highly optimistic. These people have the skills and initiative that are necessary to take good new ideas to market and make the right decisions to make
the idea profitable. So for us, musicians, being an entrepreneur thinker is very important for us in order to make a living. There are so many careers in
music out there for us, for example, writing and production (arranger, orchestration, producer), music business and management (publisher), music
educators (choir/band director, private instructor), music producer and engineer, and so on. Some people will stick to these careers, while others will
try experimenting new things in order for them to be enterprising, but real entrepreneurial thinkers will design their own career, they try to discover
something that no one else has done or is doing, and make it happen. For music artists and entrepreneurs, we have to figure out our passion, skills, and
what we can do to make money for a living. We have to try and experiment with new things, new ways that can make us different and stand out from
the rest of the group. "A music entrepreneur is someone who uses creativity, innovation, and bold leadership to channel his/her passion for music into a
new business that challenges the status quo and has value in the public marketplace." –

Louis Biraille Accomplishments
Because of Louis Braille, the blind can read and write. People never thought that it would, or could, ever happen. Louis Braille made a HUGE
difference in the lives of blind people, starting in 1824 when he developed the 6–dot cell system. Even today he is still making a difference, such as the "
Braille Olympics," where blind students use their braille skills in competitions. (Perkins) Louis Braille, although was not born blind, created a
system still being used today. Louis has become a major hero, especially to the world of the blind. Louis' childhood shaped the type of person he
became later on. Louis Braille was born in Coupvray, France in 1809. Then, when he was three years old, he wanted to be like his father. He
thought, I can do what my father can do, so he took an awl, a sharp tool to poke holes into leather with, and tried to use it. But the awl slipped and
stabbed him in the eye. He then became blind in that eye. The now blind eye got an infection and it spread to his other eye making him completely
blind. He did very well in school, but he thought that it was too easy, he wanted a challenge and to read books, so he went to an institute for the blind.

Less and less people today are using the braille system. Moving on to audio books and voice recognition. In 2009, only ten percent of blind
Americans can read braille. But those who do, are more likely to obtain higher levels of education and employment. There is also an asteroid named
Braille, in honor of Louis Braille's accomplishments. The asteroid was discovered in 1992 orbiting the sun. Did you know that braille isn't a language?
It is used in all countries, such as for Spanish, they have a special arrangement of dots that indicate a letter with an accent. There are also arrangements
for punctuation, such as commas, periods, exclamation marks, question marks, and so on. (Perkins) In conclusion, Louis has made a major impact in our

How Social Media Shapes Musical Identities
The following proposal will be an overview of a short documentary project that will analyze and discuss how social media shapes musical identities.
To do this I will use Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook to consider the interactions that happen through these mediums and also look into how this
relationship can form musical identities. Thus, I will use interview subjects who I will film interviews with myself and I will also interview and use
videos of fellow students on Mike Johnston's online student page. I will use Jimmie Manning's chapter in the book, Beyond New Media by Herbig,

identity and social mediated music identity. I will also use things like Mcgee's theory of fragmentation and Megan Foley's sound bites to explain how
subjects subsume their social mediated music identities.
For this project I would like to do a short three to four minute documentary to analyze how social media helps shape peoples musical identity in this
technological era. I can only give an estimate at this time because I know a lot of people who have said they would like to contribute to this project.

The Expressivity Of Creativity : Music
The Expressivity of Creativity Musicians in this era release music nowadays that always seems to follow similar melodic patterns, making a great
amount of the music we listen to sound all too familiar. Listening to music is a way that people relax their soul; it takes them to a different place and
away from personal problems. Yet, there seems to be fewer and fewer artists that actually express their emotions through theirmusic, making it seem
impassive and repetitive. Music is an outlet where there are millions of possibilities within the combinations that you can choose from. Different
patterns can be used to accommodate according to how the artist is feeling and what they are going through. When creating music there are an
indefinite amount of possibilities for the writer to use, yet the majority of the music we listen to seems to always follow a similar rhythmic pattern.
Artists are not taking advantage the privilege they have to express themselves through their creativity. The final product an artist creates should
illustrate an accurate representation of the writer's emotions that the listener should be able to recognize and perhaps relate to the song. Music is a
great way to work with both the dark and the light side of our emotions. Due to music allowing people to reminisce on older memories. Many people
use music as a therapeutic way to calm their souls, relax themselves, and allow for the melody to find serenity within. When listening to a song often

Argumentative Essay: The Change In The Music Industry
Music has been around for centuries, but lately the music industry has been making major changes in how it all works. In the twentieth century music
was bought on CD's, cassette tapes and records where now a days, it is most common to digitally download a song or album rather than getting the
physical copy. While this is a major change occurring, this isn't the biggest change in the industry currently. The biggest debate is on whether an artist
should use their music in advertising campaigns in order to get paid a sum of money. With the music industry being one of the most competitive right
now, artists often choose to do ad campaigns as a way to get their music out there all the while getting paid for it. It has been observed though, that
doing this could cause catastrophic events in their career. Overall, musicians should not do brand deals for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the article "Selling Out Not Worth the Risk" by Darrius Johnson, advertising deals could potentially decrease the artists' popularity. For
example the successful rock band U2 did an advertising deal with Apple to advertise their new album Song of Innocence in 2014. This deal put their
album into 500 million iTunes subscribers' libraries for free, but what they thought was an intelligent advertising move, ended with catastrophic
results for their career. The band faced thousands of fans sending negative feedback on the fact that the album was being forced into their playlists. It
was then labeled as "musical spam" and the reputation of both Apple and U2 was forever damaged. This one brand deal they made in 2014 damaged
their image indefinitely, further showing that advertising deals can cause more harm than good. While it is proven that advertising deals have the
potential to damage an artist's image, it also has the possibility of being over–used and causing the public to stop listening to their

"Cathedral" written by Raymond Carver is a short story that unfolds as a first–person narrative of the main character named Bub. The story beautifully
depicts the process of an individual who transforms from a person with lack of knowledge and ignorant towards knowledgeable soul, due to an
encounter with his wife's blind friend Robert, to an individual that is enlightened. The cathedral, in this story, is a mere subject brought up at the end of
this story which becomes the object of his enlightenment. "Cathedral," tells a tale of Bub who through a blind man receives an eye–opening
experience. The narrator starts off as intolerable, but towards the end of the story, with the assistance of a blind man makes him open–minded. He is

I got up off the sofa with my drink and went to the window to have a look"(pg. 5). From the narrator's consumption of alcohol it helped slowly lower
the walls that he had up blocking him to allow Robert into his space.
Another indication that shows the narrator was hit hard was when he began to realized that what he read in papers weren't always true. "I remember I
read somewhere that the blind didn't smoke... they couldn't see the smoke they exhale... But this blind man smoked his cigarette down to the nubbin
and then lit another one"(pg. 6). This moment allowed for the narrator to see that what he has read isn't always the truth, and that was shown when
Robert proved the narrator 's preconceived notations wrong.
The narrator's presumptions led to him being clobbered and irony played a role in the process. Bub felt that Robert's blindness hindered him from his
daily activities such as eating, "The blind man had right away located his foods, he knew just where everything was on his plate. I watched with
admiration as he used his knife and fork on the meat" (pg. 7). The narrator was astonished, he didn't expect Robert to be able to locate the food on his
plate nor did he expect him to find and use the eating utensils with ease. Another example of irony was when the narrator went to turn on the television
and his wife felt he was vainly disrespectful towards Robert. The narrator's wife believed that since Robert was blind, he wouldn't have a television set.

Music enthusiasts now use streaming services like Pandora, Google Play Music, iHeart

Many famous music artists of today have SoundCloud to thank, like the recent prominent rapper Willie Maxwell II, known professionally as "Fetty

summer, "Trap Queen" had reached eleven million plays on SoundCloud, which led to a record deal with 300 Entertainment

house musician Kygo.
In contrast, Spotify's direction is to provide its listeners with songs for everyone of life's moment. Spotify accomplishes this goal by creating playlists
for specific genres and moods. For example, such playlists include Country, R&B, Rock, Holidays, Good
Vibes, Mood Booster, Romance, Workout, and Focus. In addition, Spotify's goal is also to allow its users to access Spotify from anywhere through the

Essay on Music Censorship
Music Censorship
The tall, lanky fifteen–year–old ambled slowly up to the counter and tossed his music selection toward the clerk. The salesman began to ring the sale

"explicit lyrics." As the teenager fumbled through his pockets searching for a method of payment, the clerk gave him a questioning glance. "Could I

By removing the libretto of La Traviata Verde's opera has lost at least some of its impact or meaning. Though we can not be sure what this particular
libretto's content was, we can be sure that we have missed out on some of Giuseppe Verde's work of art.
The issue of censorship has been with us for centuries. Due to the argumentative nature of the human race, this issue will in all probability remain
with us for centuries to come. Radio broadcasters in the Nineteen Fifties regularly altered and removed certain lyrics that were determined too
offensive for listeners. " The Billie Holiday song 'Love for Sale' was banned outright by the ABC radio network in 1956 because of its prostitution
theme" (Volz 2). In other cases lyrics were changed in order to allow these hit songs some guaranteed air time. "ABC changed a line in the Cole
Porter tune 'I get a kick out of you' from ' I get a kick from cocaine' to ' I get perfume from Spain'"(2). Sure, these lines may well rhyme, but they
totally lack the artist's intended meaning. Cole Porter was deprived of a main point he was trying to get across. Once again the unjust act of censorship
has robbed the meaning of a song from millions.
In 1966 an Irish group named "Them" wrote, and sung, the top selling European song "Gloria." One line in this song, "she comes in my room" was
marked offensive by WLS, a radio station in Chicago. This song was so

Parents Involvement In Music Education Essay
Parental involvement is a key factor in music education. An analysis showed that "Students whose parents were involved in music and supportive of
their children's musical participation developed better self–concepts in music and felt more comfortable academically and socially(Sichivista)."
Without the parent's involvement, an ensemble would not be able to live to the full potential that it can. The parents are also what helps the students
become greater musicians with their help and motivation. Unfortunately dealing with parents does not always go as easy as we want them to. Some
parents are willing to step in but they do not know where to start. They are completely lost, they do not know here to start. "Parents willing to support

Music : The Power Of Music In Music
The Power of Lyrics
Musicians in this time are thought of as idols or role models. Children strive to be exactly like their favorite rap or pop artist. Because they are so
popular, musicians can be influential in everything they say, whether that be to the media or in their music. Their lyrics become so influential, that
people take them quite literally, and can even act upon some of the things sang by the lyricist. Although this can be dangerous at times, like with
Marilyn Manson being blamed for school shootings, musicians reserve the right to speak freely thru their music, much like everyone has the right to
free speech. Musicians are beloved celebrities because people feel they can connect directly to the musician thru their lyrics. If musicians are not able
to express themselves freely thru their songs, then their music loses all meaning. People no longer will be able to connect to it, because it usually
would not show the artists true emotions. For example, rap artists rap about many different things (drugs, girls, and death) but a lot of times they sing
about their lives, and how they got to where they are. Often, this includes inappropriate content, but this is how the artist chose to represent how they
were feeling, and that should be accepted. Consumers can choose to buy any music they want, thru iTunes, Spotify, Sound Cloud, etc. These consumers
know exactly what they are buying when they purchase explicit music. This is mostly due to them already knowing of

Sometimes led by seeing eye dogs. A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward to." (Carver 200).
We realize that the narrator did not think much of Robert even before he has ever met him. After meeting him and trying to draw the cathedral, he
was told by Robert to close his eyes and continue. At the end, we can see the growth of the narrator and his feeling towards Robert and blind men in
general. When he's told to open his eyes:
"'Well?' he said. 'Are you looking?'
My eyes were still closed. I was in my house. I knew that. But I didn't feel like I was inside anything.
'It's really something,' I said." (Craver 210)
Here we see the narrator starting to feel sympathetic in a way. Trying to put himself in Roberts shoes, which has shown that he has come a long way
in self discovery since the start of the story. In the movie, The Island the characters Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta develop from very simple
character thinking they are going to an island. Instead they had to start learning about how to live in the real world and learn why they were created.
When we meet both Lincoln and Jordan they think they are living in a world during an apocalypse and that there is a lottery that sends them to an

Artists can now bypass record labels. With all the free or almost free ways to download music, the labels themselves are struggling to survive; whereas
before, they were the supreme brokers between artists and their consumers.
When tech–savvy artists look at the music industry today, they see opportunity.
As an independent recording artist, you have a lot going for you. All that is left to do is to step up and act like an Artist– To be creative,
improvisational, and take risks. Musicians have a lot of what it takes to be adaptive, agile, and innovative.
Thanks to Technology, The "undiscovered artist" can now better than ever be the master of his/her own destiny instead of hanging on to be
"discovered" by the masses or record labels.
LEVERAGING THE INTERNET TO GAIN EXPOSURE
The Internet has become an immensely influential stage that artists didn't have ten years ago. Nothing has changed in terms of creating provocative
and inspiring music that can move people. The physical avenue has just largely surrendered to digital distribution – the crowds at live shows have
drastically shrunk, studio technology has become a great deal better and more affordable, and promotional tools have become near–infinite in number –
especially online.

WhatВґs behind MusicianВґs Dystonia?
Thousand of musicians across the world suffer from Focal Dystonia. Not always correctly diagnosed or understood, it attacks what the musicians love
the most: the music and what they most need: their hands, arms or voice. Facing life ahead with such a condition can become unbelievably difficult
and challenging.
Dystonia is a neurological condition that affects a muscle or a group of them, causing involuntary movements and contractions. ItВґs called Focal
Dystonia when itВґs very focused on a specific area of the body. In the case of MusicianВґs Dystonia it appears in the parts of the body that they
mostly use: Vocal cords for singers, hands for guitar, violin players, etc. MusicianВґs dystonia is in almost all the cases Focal, not affecting a wide
range of parts of the body.
There are two main classifications for Focal Dystonia based on the causes: Primary and secondary. The first one is not caused by any external reason
and is probably caused by a genetic component. The second one is occasioned by an external trauma or any other cause that can trigger the issue. In
the case of musicians, the most of the subjects seem to fall under the second category: the repetitive movements of the same muscles would cause The
Dystonia, even if there could be a genetic predisposition for it. There is not a clear cure for this problem and only some partial solutions as
Neurological re–training or Botox injections seem to alleviate the problem, but not fix it totally.
Focal Dystonia is a

Because of my support of Michael and Janeen Damian and their amazing movie High Strung, I have become aware of many other magnificent
musicians and artists in the business, and Keith Cullen is one of them. At this point, he is best known for his song "Say Something," which can be
heard in the movie and soundtrack for High Strung, and I was pleased that he took some time to answer a few questions about his music, his outlook on
the business, and even a hint as to his future aspirations.
RH: What inspired you to become a musician? What kind of training have you had in music?
KC: I chose music––or should I say––music chose me. Music has always been my first love and my passion, and I just feel so grateful that I now get

This keeps people progressing and keeps things exciting.
How would you describe your style of music?
My style is a cross between pop and adult contemporary. I'm often told that my music is catchy and my lyrics are easily relatable which is the main
aim of the music I create.
Where do you get the ideas for your songwriting?
My ideas come from a wide range of places. I like to go through life learning and absorbing as much as I can. For this reason, I have many thoughts
and ideas which I can then translate into music. Songwriting is a way for me to express myself and definitely an outlet for a lot of what I am
experiencing and feeling.
So how did you get connected with Michael Damian and High Strung?
You could call this " The Luck of the Irish." While I was recording the song in a studio in LA, the producer of the movie, Michael Damian, overheard
the song as he just happened to be in the same studio and knew immediately that the song was a fit for the movie, and my management team handled it
from there.
Tell us about the writing of Say Something. How did you get the inspiration to write it? How long did it take to write that

Negative Effects Of Technology On Society And Relationships

 • 1. Negative Effects Of Technology On Society Nowadays it is almost impossible for many people to do their works and spend their days without using any kind of technology. According to Savanah Guthrie, an American journalist " a recent survey found that people check their phones up to hundred fifty times a day. We talk, text, listen to music, surf the web, take pictures, oh, and then we share it all on social media." Many people think of technology in a negative way. They think technology makes people create their own world and it make them alone. Even though technology has some negative effects on society, it has also a positive impact on the way people communicate. Technology makes it possible for people to enrich their relationships and for disabled people to overcome their disabilities. Today with many communication applications available people are able to easily stay in touch over long distances. Social media depends highly on technology. The development of technology impacts social media. Social media makes it possible for people to stay in touch. Communicating through mobiles at any time of the day through hundreds of applications are the outcome of technology. Except getting in touch with everyone in every part of the world, social media has provided the opportunity of making new friends, except friends many wives and husbands have known each other through social media. In addition, technology makes it possible for people to participate in different community activities from all over the world. People ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 2. Themes Of Voyeurism In Peeping Tom Helens blind mother, Mrs. Stephens, in the movie Peeping Tom, plays a crucial role in enticing Michael Powell's major themes of voyeurism and fear, and is the only character who is able to bring a deeper understanding of Mark as a person and the humanity he hides deep within his childhood. Film scholar Linda Williams has observed that silent films in the early 1900's often portrayed the heroin to be naГЇve and figuratively or even physically blind. This rests on the concept of voyeurism and objectification of women as well as the fact that women exist solely for the purpose to be looked at and are not in the position to "see" for pleasure themselves. The true satisfaction attained during voyeuristic activities is from the victim being unaware of being watched; making a "blind" woman an ideal victim for a voyeur because of their inability to detect being watched. However, Mark does not kill Mrs. Stephens because even though he prepares to kill her at one point, he realizes that she is unable to watch her own death due to her blindness, thus not contributing to his film and experiment. This shows that Mark is not an ordinary Peeping Tom, and that his voyeurism stems primarily from his childhood and the filmed episodes of his life that his father directed. His perverted acts of voyeurism and violence are for purposes much larger than just his own pleasure. An important quote in the movie is when Mark asks, "Do you know what the most frightening thing in the world is?" and he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
 • 3. Introduction. My Relationship Development Paper Is About INTRODUCTION My relationship development paper is about a girl named Breana Young; our friendship was for about 3 years. The current stage is terminated. INITIATING I had first met Breana in the fifth grade; although we weren't in the same class, I had met her at recess. The elementary school we went to was pretty small so everyone in the same grade nearly knew everyone. We would occasionally make awkward eye contact but never have actual conversation. Fast forward to the eighth grade, Breana was friends with an old friend of mine named Nina, so I was seeing her more and more often. Now that Nina and Breana had become friends, Breana would sometimes eat lunch with Nina and I. She seemed pretty cool; I didn't know her very well so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although we had two of the same classes and saw each other every day, we'd only speak in forensic science because we sat next to each other. Throughout forensic science we'd exchange laughs about the teachers we had and other students. One day Breana called me by surprise, I wasn't expecting this because we usually only spoke in school or texted each other about school work. During the conversation we were discussing the upcoming homecoming dance and we began to talk about our family dynamic and what our home life is like. As we were on the phone Breana asked me to join her at Eleanor Roosevelt's homecoming football game, this was the first time we had ever hung out with each other outside of school. After the game her mom picked us up, this was the first time I had ever met her; after her mom picked us up we had gone to her aunt's house where I had met more of her family. According to Johari's window the open box has grown larger because we are now exchanging personal information and more details about each other. The hidden box is still there because I'm not fully comfortable with her yet and haven't spent much time with her outside of school. The blind box exists because it contains Breana's first impression about me and other feelings about me that I'm unaware of. The Impact Of Pop Industry On The Music Industry When discussing the pop–industry today a general belief seems to form, that young musicians who grew up with either rich or famous parents compose the majority of the industry. On the other hand, the alternative genres of music are typically made up of people who grew up in the middle–class or lower class. Unfortunately their music never finds a market or receives play on the radio. That said, technical avenues still exist for the alternative artist to make music. Despite this challenge, Ed Sheeran set out to do just that. His mom helped by limiting his tv media "We didn't own a video games console and I honestly think that was one of the best things my mum never did"(Webster).Shortly after his meeting with Rice, Ed Sheeran put out the EP, The Orange Room. Due to limitations by his family, Ed Sheeran moved out of his home in 2006 and headed towards London's underground independent music scene. After touring the London singer–songwriter circuit for a year, Sheeran pulled together a small starting fanbase. However, after a year making next to no money, he found himself on the streets of London. He wrote two notable songs about living on those streets. In one, "The City" (Sheeran), he recalls the many of the aspects of living in London. During the song, he relates city life to country life, and how unnatural pavement feels. In the song "Homeless" (Sheeran), Sheeran expresses life on the streets using quotes. While homeless, the singer–songwriter slept on a number of friends' couches while trying to write music. Ed Sheeran considered changing careers after struggling to make money and a period of couch surfing (Showbiz). " ' 'There came a point when I wanted to quit. When I thought, 'This is horrible. • 6. Erin Mccandrew Research Paper Since I am a musician myself, I derive immense joy from discovering up and coming musicians with genuine talent and fierce determination. And Erin McAndrew is certainly all that and more. Recently, I was able to ask her a few questions about how she got started in music, her involvement in the music industry so far, and what she has planned for the near (and even distant) future. Photo Credit: Brooke Ashley Photography RH: What inspired you to become a musician? What were your early music influences? EM: I've always loved music. While social media and digital music has given fans more access to music, ensuring that one's music is heard above the maddening crowd can be a seemingly insurmountable task. Thankfully, the undaunted Erin has made the decision to leap into this industry, and the desire of her heart is to make a living doing what she loves to do. She is enamored with the arts, and as she shares her gifts with the world, she recognizes that in order to be a success in this business, she must have patience and take each and every opportunity for advancement that she can. Already she is setting herself apart by utilizing YouTube as a place to display her array of talents, and while some days it might be an uphill battle, she has the positive attitude and sunny disposition (not to mention the energy and optimism of youth) to guarntee that she continues her quest of accomplishing every dream within her heart. While she is far from a household name in music, she seems to understand even at her age that overnight success is a myth, and she is aware of the fact that perseverance is the key to success. • 7. The Importance Of Psychological Awareness In Raymond... Psychological Awareness What do you think of when you think of the 80's? Girls dressed in bright neon clothes that had shoulder pads and leg warmers, with hair teased so high it didn't look natural, and wearing bright blue or pink eyeshadow? Or maybe boys in all denim, pinned to look tight jeans with an oversized denim jacket? It was a time for fashion and music to thrive. It was completely normal to be "all about me" in the 80's. Raymond Carver's Cathedral was written in 1983, and the narrator is very self absorbed and insular. This coincides with the ambience of the time period, reflecting the majority of society. The narrator's wife has an old friend, who happens to be blind. His wife has just died, so he is going to stay with the narrator and his wife for a bit. The narrator is very passive aggressive towards him and even pulls childish pranks on him. Eventually the two are left alone and the narrator realizes how narrow–minded he has been his entire life. In Carver's Cathedral, the narrator's lack of social depth and tolerance for others mimics that of the societal norm, which reverses when his wife's blind friend, Robert, strains the narrator's mentality. The narrator is a characterized representation of society, and how society can change when immersed in deviant lifestyles. According to Kirk Nesset (1994), "Still, Carver implies, it is through our collaboration with others that we free ourselves from the slavery of self–absorption" (para 30). This means that ... • 8. The Gap Between Vocal And Instrumental Instruction Throughout the beginning of music education, there has been a divide. A separation between the lands of vocalists and instrumentalists existed and still exists today. While it isn't a conscience happening at all times, it can divide a music program into two separate entities. Figuring out how the two areas can coincide will ultimately get music educators on the right tracks for building an excelling program. When students feel that they can be in both and feel wanted in each area and not feel tension between the directors and the music choices, they can thrive. Removing the gap between vocal and instrumental instruction can be done by researching alike techniques and implementing the coinciding department into either program. Although the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With woodwind players, tone can be changed by simply changing the space in the throat and mouth. The same can be said of brass players, but one other aspect lies in the amount of space between the teeth. If enough space between the teeth is not present, especially with young brass players, an unpleasant buzzing sound will occur, once again hindering a beautiful tone. The directors of vocalists push and push for more space in the mouth and throat, especially with young singers that want to sound like the next greatest pop artist. The music performed in the context of concerts and contests at the high school and middle school level, however, need just the opposite. The last way technique overlaps, is in the use of warmups, and technical exercises. Instrumentalists use these on a reoccurring basis for warmups before rehearsal. Scales are learned at a brisk tempo for auditions and at the collegiate level, technique books and extended technique exercises are studied. These are used to not only warm up air, but to also warm up the fingers and gain dexterity. For vocalists, similar processes occur. Before rehearsing, vocalists use warmups; most of which are based on scales, arpeggios and other theory points. They are used to warm up the voice, and get performers aware of their breathing and voice flexibility. All of these are extremely similar to their voice counterparts. Some ... This seemed to be a big step in his music career and I'm sure it helped to open his mind up to new ideas and new ways of playing such as incorporating improvisation into his music and making the music his own. In addition, he learned what it was like to be in a big band and follow along with other musicians in the band such as Dizzy. By watching the other members and how they played, he learned how important it is to have a good connection with band members and be able to follow along with the different cues and physical movements that Dizzy gave. Things that we never thought would be available to us over the computer are now there, so why not be able to download free music from your favorite artists? Artists as well as the record companies need to see the growth of technology as a good thing, and use it to their advantage so they do not miss out on the inevitable benefits. It allows someone to listen to a song and check out the artist before spending eighteen dollars on the CD. It is like a "library," where everyone connected "shares" songs with one another. Artists, such as Metallica, who sued Napster, believed their songs were "being given away and the 'library' as ill–gotten pirate booty." Another reason why the Recording Industry says that free music should not be allowed is because of the copyright law. In the article, "Chained melodies" by Damien Cave he discusses the copyright law. Many of the CDs that are coming out these days are being copy–protected. This means that you are not able to download them onto your computer and put them onto your MP3 player. This is done so that music cannot be downloaded onto the computer. The problem is that many of the people who would want to download the music are not interested in pirating, they just want to download it onto their MP3 players and the new CDs will not allow it. This quote was said by Malala Yousafzai, a young woman who in her teenage years was an advocate for education and peace, and still continues to make a significant impact on the world. Malala and two other people, Easton LaChappelle and Louis Braille, are proof that teenagers can make a meaningful difference in this world. Malala Yousafzai was born July 12, 1997 in Mingora, Pakistan. Malala attended a school founded by her father that allowed girls to join. Even in her early years she became an advocate for girl's education, and she in September 2008 even gave a speech condemning the Taliban's attack on school girls. This is a very brave and daring thing to do; she spoke out against the Taliban. She inspired many people with her courage, and she continued her support for education. Because of her ongoing defiance of Taliban control and her passion for peace and education, in 2011, Malala got death threats from the Taliban. Then, on October 9, 2012, she was shot on the bus on her way home from school. She was shot in the left side of her head, and was left in critical condition. • 15. Essay about Lack of Vision in Carver's Cathedral Lack of Vision in Cathedral The narrator in Raymond Carver's "Cathedral" is not a particularly sensitive man. I might describe him as self–centered, superficial, and egotistical. And while his actions certainly speak to these points, it is his misunderstanding of the people and the relationships presented to him in this story which show most clearly his tragic flaw: while Robert is physically blind, it is the narrator who cannot clearly see the world around him. In the eyes of the narrator, Robert's blindness is his defining characteristic. The opening line of "Cathedral" reads, "This blind man, an old friend of my wife's, he was on his way to spend the night" (1052). Clearly, the narrator cannot see past Robert's disability; ... This reinforces the idea that the narrator is blind to the reality of the world. On her last day in the office, the blind man asked if he could touch her face . . . .She told me he touched his fingers to every part of her face . . . .She never forgot it. While the narrator realizes that his wife's relationship with Robert is important to her, he cannot understand why. Under other circumstances, the narrator's wife's descriptions of experiences that summer and Robert's friendship and advice through her marriages might have left him enlightened as to the depth of their relationship. But here, despite all evidence to the contrary, the narrator (ultimately because of his prejudice) has ruled out Robert as a thoughtful, consequential person. In the story, "Cathedral" by Raymond Carver, the author takes us through a day in the life of a husband who is forced by his wife to meet and entertain her longtime friend Robert– who happens to be blind. The husband is not exactly excited by this visit. The author illustrates the characters' development beginning as apprehensive and jealous, transitioning to more of an uncomfortable feeling, and finally ending with acceptance as the husband is put into a situation where he gains a new understanding of the blind man. He ends the story with his eyes closed and a mind open to a new view of the world. As the story begins, the author seems to portray the main character as apprehensive and jealous. As he narrates the story, the husband opens with a blunt statement, "his being blind bothered me." (34) It immediately gives the reader the impression that he was very upset about the situation he was put in. The husband seems more concerned with the fact that the man is blind and states later that his "idea of blindness came from movies." (34) Giving once again an example of how uncomfortable and really uninformed he was. The husband has a stereotypical view of what a blind person should be like and sticks to those thoughts throughout the beginning of the story. This gives the impression that he feels that blindness is more of a handicap and make Robert unrelatable. He also seemed to be jealous of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The same could be said about people who are limited by one or more of their six senses and are judged by the majority of the population who are not limited and make preconceived notions about these limitations which can bind them. • 25. Epiphany In Raymond Carver's 'Cathedral' Raymond Carver's "Cathedral" is a short story that unfolds through the perspective of Bub. The story begins by depicting Bub's narrow mindedness and as the story progresses it becomes clear that his perspective shifts after an encounter with his wife's blind friend Robert. It is through this encounter that Bub has an epiphany. It is his jealousy towards Robert and intoxication that debunk his preconceived notations and highlight the connection between him and Robert. It is only after his epiphany that he is drawn out of this obliviousness and gains insight. Bub's wife, his smoking, and drinking are key elements in breaking apart his bias and as a result he is enlightened. Bub's epiphany helps him realize how Robert mirrors his life. The first indication of this was the jealousy he felt when his wife told him about her last day working with Robert. "On her last day last day in the office, the blind man asked if he could touch her face. She told me he touched his fingers to every part of her face, her nose––even her neck! She never forgot it"(pg. 3). The narrator's jealousy was triggered because the thought of another male touching his wife bothered him. The mere fact that it was a she could never forget, it hit him hard. This emotional reaction shows that either the narrator doesn't connect with his wife on an intimate level or he never cared for how his wife felt intimately until she spoke of another male and how his touch was unforgettable. Another factor in Bub's enlightenment was the consumption of alcohol. "I was having a drink and watching TV when I heard the car pull into the drive. I got up off the sofa with my drink and went to the window to have a look"( 5). His constant drinking helped to slowly lowered the walls that he had up. Before becoming intoxicated, Bub held several preconceived notions about blindness. He felt that Robert's blindness hindered him from his daily activities such as eating, "The blind man had right away located his foods, he knew just where everything was on his plate. I watched with admiration as he used his knife and fork on the meat" (pg. 7). Thus, I will use interview subjects who I will film interviews with myself and I will also interview and use videos of fellow students on Mike Johnston's online student page. I will use Jimmie Manning's chapter in the book, Beyond New Media by Herbig, Herrmann, and Tyma to discuss the intricate nature ofidentity throughout this proposal to identify some of the areas of focus such as public music identity and social mediated music identity. I will also use things like Mcgee's theory of fragmentation and Megan Foley's sound bites to explain how subjects subsume their social mediated music identities. For this project I would like to do a short three to four minute documentary to analyze how social media helps shape peoples musical identity in this technological era. I can only give an estimate at this time because I know a lot of people who have said they would like to contribute to this project. However, I also know life happens so that number may change that is why I have chosen to leave the length a little open ended. The Expressivity Of Creativity : Music The Expressivity of Creativity Musicians in this era release music nowadays that always seems to follow similar melodic patterns, making a great amount of the music we listen to sound all too familiar. Listening to music is a way that people relax their soul; it takes them to a different place and away from personal problems. Yet, there seems to be fewer and fewer artists that actually express their emotions through theirmusic, making it seem impassive and repetitive. Music is an outlet where there are millions of possibilities within the combinations that you can choose from. Different patterns can be used to accommodate according to how the artist is feeling and what they are going through. When creating music there are an indefinite amount of possibilities for the writer to use, yet the majority of the music we listen to seems to always follow a similar rhythmic pattern. Artists are not taking advantage the privilege they have to express themselves through their creativity. The final product an artist creates should illustrate an accurate representation of the writer's emotions that the listener should be able to recognize and perhaps relate to the song. Music is a great way to work with both the dark and the light side of our emotions. Due to music allowing people to reminisce on older memories. • 32. Argumentative Essay: The Change In The Music Industry Music has been around for centuries, but lately the music industry has been making major changes in how it all works. In the twentieth century music was bought on CD's, cassette tapes and records where now a days, it is most common to digitally download a song or album rather than getting the physical copy. While this is a major change occurring, this isn't the biggest change in the industry currently. The biggest debate is on whether an artist should use their music in advertising campaigns in order to get paid a sum of money. With the music industry being one of the most competitive right now, artists often choose to do ad campaigns as a way to get their music out there all the while getting paid for it. It has been observed though, that doing this could cause catastrophic events in their career. Overall, musicians should not do brand deals for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the article "Selling Out Not Worth the Risk" by Darrius Johnson, advertising deals could potentially decrease the artists' popularity. For example the successful rock band U2 did an advertising deal with Apple to advertise their new album Song of Innocence in 2014. This deal put their album into 500 million iTunes subscribers' libraries for free, but what they thought was an intelligent advertising move, ended with catastrophic results for their career. The band faced thousands of fans sending negative feedback on the fact that the album was being forced into their playlists. It was then labeled as "musical spam" and the reputation of both Apple and U2 was forever damaged. This one brand deal they made in 2014 damaged their image indefinitely, further showing that advertising deals can cause more harm than good. While it is proven that advertising deals have the potential to damage an artist's image, it also has the possibility of being over–used and causing the public to stop listening to their ... • 33. The Cathedral By Raymond Carver "Cathedral" written by Raymond Carver is a short story that unfolds as a first–person narrative of the main character named Bub. The story beautifully depicts the process of an individual who transforms from a person with lack of knowledge and ignorant towards knowledgeable soul, due to an encounter with his wife's blind friend Robert, to an individual that is enlightened. The cathedral, in this story, is a mere subject brought up at the end of this story which becomes the object of his enlightenment. From the narrator's consumption of alcohol it helped slowly lower the walls that he had up blocking him to allow Robert into his space. Another indication that shows the narrator was hit hard was when he began to realized that what he read in papers weren't always true. "I remember I read somewhere that the blind didn't smoke... they couldn't see the smoke they exhale... But this blind man smoked his cigarette down to the nubbin and then lit another one"(pg. 6). This moment allowed for the narrator to see that what he has read isn't always the truth, and that was shown when Robert proved the narrator 's preconceived notations wrong. The narrator's presumptions led to him being clobbered and irony played a role in the process. Bub felt that Robert's blindness hindered him from his daily activities such as eating, "The blind man had right away located his foods, he knew just where everything was on his plate. I watched with admiration as he used his knife and fork on the meat" (pg. 7). The narrator was astonished, he didn't expect Robert to be able to locate the food on his plate nor did he expect him to find and use the eating utensils with ease. Another example of irony was when the narrator went to turn on the television and his wife felt he was vainly disrespectful towards Robert. By the end of summer, "Trap Queen" had reached eleven million plays on SoundCloud, which led to a record deal with 300 Entertainment (Gruger). In addition to Maxwell II, SoundCloud also helped music artists like electronic dance musician Skrillex, hip–hop rapper Post Malone, and house musician Kygo. The salesman began to ring the sale up in his routine manner, but just then something caught his eye. It was a small black sticker on the corner of the CD. This sticker plainly read "explicit lyrics." As the teenager fumbled through his pockets searching for a method of payment, the clerk gave him a questioning glance. "Could I see some identification please?" The clerk's voice cut through the silence like a knife through butter. Immediately the boy's face went from something of a blank stare to a frown. By removing the libretto of La Traviata Verde's opera has lost at least some of its impact or meaning. Though we can not be sure what this particular libretto's content was, we can be sure that we have missed out on some of Giuseppe Verde's work of art. The issue of censorship has been with us for centuries. Due to the argumentative nature of the human race, this issue will in all probability remain with us for centuries to come. Radio broadcasters in the Nineteen Fifties regularly altered and removed certain lyrics that were determined too offensive for listeners. " The Billie Holiday song 'Love for Sale' was banned outright by the ABC radio network in 1956 because of its prostitution theme" (Volz 2). In other cases lyrics were changed in order to allow these hit songs some guaranteed air time. "ABC changed a line in the Cole Porter tune 'I get a kick out of you' from ' I get a kick from cocaine' to ' I get perfume from Spain'"(2). Sure, these lines may well rhyme, but they totally lack the artist's intended meaning. Cole Porter was deprived of a main point he was trying to get across. Once again the unjust act of censorship has robbed the meaning of a song from millions. In 1966 an Irish group named "Them" wrote, and sung, the top selling European song "Gloria." One line in this song, "she comes in my room" was marked offensive by WLS, a radio station in Chicago. This song was so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An analysis showed that "Students whose parents were involved in music and supportive of their children's musical participation developed better self–concepts in music and felt more comfortable academically and socially(Sichivista)." Without the parent's involvement, an ensemble would not be able to live to the full potential that it can. The parents are also what helps the students become greater musicians with their help and motivation. Unfortunately dealing with parents does not always go as easy as we want them to. "Parents willing to support their child's musical learning often do not know how to help the child learning often do not know how to help the child overcome difficulties and obstacles during the early stages of the learning(Margiotta)." • 37. Music : The Power Of Music In Music The Power of Lyrics Musicians in this time are thought of as idols or role models. Children strive to be exactly like their favorite rap or pop artist. Because they are so popular, musicians can be influential in everything they say, whether that be to the media or in their music. Their lyrics become so influential, that people take them quite literally, and can even act upon some of the things sang by the lyricist. Although this can be dangerous at times, like with Marilyn Manson being blamed for school shootings, musicians reserve the right to speak freely thru their music, much like everyone has the right to free speech. Musicians are beloved celebrities because people feel they can connect directly to the musician thru their lyrics. If musicians are not able to express themselves freely thru their songs, then their music loses all meaning. People no longer will be able to connect to it, because it usually would not show the artists true emotions. For example, rap artists rap about many different things (drugs, girls, and death) but a lot of times they sing about their lives, and how they got to where they are. Often, this includes inappropriate content, but this is how the artist chose to represent how they were feeling, and that should be accepted. Consumers can choose to buy any music they want, thru iTunes, Spotify, Sound Cloud, etc. These consumers know exactly what they are buying when they purchase explicit music. Not always correctly diagnosed or understood, it attacks what the musicians love the most: the music and what they most need: their hands, arms or voice. Facing life ahead with such a condition can become unbelievably difficult and challenging. Dystonia is a neurological condition that affects a muscle or a group of them, causing involuntary movements and contractions. ItВґs called Focal Dystonia when itВґs very focused on a specific area of the body. In the case of MusicianВґs Dystonia it appears in the parts of the body that they mostly use: Vocal cords for singers, hands for guitar, violin players, etc. MusicianВґs dystonia is in almost all the cases Focal, not affecting a wide range of parts of the body. There are two main classifications for Focal Dystonia based on the causes: Primary and secondary. The first one is not caused by any external reason and is probably caused by a genetic component. The second one is occasioned by an external trauma or any other cause that can trigger the issue. In the case of musicians, the most of the subjects seem to fall under the second category: the repetitive movements of the same muscles would cause The Dystonia, even if there could be a genetic predisposition for it. There is not a clear cure for this problem and only some partial solutions as Neurological re–training or Botox injections seem to alleviate the problem, but not fix it totally.
