How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight By Jane Yolen
The author I chose for this project was Jane Yolen. Before this project I had never heard of her; after
this project I was shocked that I never had. Going through the list of authors and illustrators on the
Reading Rockets website I decided the way I was going to choose my author was by a catchy title of
the book under their name. When I cam across Jane the title under her name was How Do Dinosaurs
Say Goodnight? Being a dinosaur lover that instantly caught my eye. After watching Jane's
interview I was ecstatic with my choice. She was born in New York City in 1939. Both of Jane's
parents were well–established writers, so it was only natural for her to follow in their footsteps. Jane
has always enjoyed writing; she can still remember and site

Ocean Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
A symbol is anything that represents an object, an idea, a character, an action, or an animal in the
story. Many times, these symbols signify something conceptual, like a force of nature, a condition of
the world, or an idea. In the book, Lord Of The Flies, there are many symbols that signify the
beginning or end of something new in the story. For example, the island and the ocean, the water
current flowing backwards, and the beast all symbolize a new change and realization to the story.
The island and the ocean symbolize an uncharted, untouched area, the indefinite and endless nature
of life that can change from calm to chaos in seconds, and, also, strength, tranquility, and stability.
The island and the ocean symbolize both a paradise and also the destructive nature of humanity. The
island can symbolize a Garden of Eden, a pristine and bountiful place where the boys can begin
anew. In the beginning of the book, Jack says, "we are going to have fun on this island" (Golding
104). The boys really did think of this island as a paradise, or at least Jack did. However, much like
the biblical Garden of Eden, paradise can be suddenly lost when the boys are enticed by evil. "The
advent of the boys pollutes the sanctity of the island, as did the advent of Satan and the eventual
temptation of Eve and loss and innocence" ("Lauryn Galloway"). The 'pristine paradise' is set on fire
by the boys and everything gets destroyed but luckily it saved them because a ship saw the smoke.
The ocean can symbolize the incessant and endless nature of life but it also symbolizes becoming
astray and then finding one's way through life. The ocean is a boundless space isolating the boys
from all they once knew about the world. But after Simon dies and gets washed out into the sea, the
ocean symbolizes all good getting washed away, getting replaced by evil. Simon becomes the good
bygone and Jack becomes the evil washing over. But the island and the ocean aren't the only
symbols in the book. The water current flowing backwards, that deceives many into thinking it is
just a detail, actually symbolizes more. The water current flowing backwards can symbolize many
things. It could be "giving the subtle impression that civilization may be

Savagery In Lord Of The Flies
Civilizations come in many different forms but even the best of them can descend into savagery. The
boys being stranded on an island made civilization very hard to keep, thus making it not very
difficult for them to descend into savagery. The first time the boys started to show signs of savagery
was when Jack and some other boys split off and made a "tribe." They put on face paint and hunted
the pigs religiously not caring for their rescue, as all of them had already assumed they weren't
going to get rescued. Killing Simon and Piggy showed the true evilness in humanity when
civilization falls. Jack and his tribe went mad after that going on a rampage and to do whatever
pleased them. The tribe did not care for the well being of other and only focused on themselves.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding clearly displays the evil in humanity through the loss of
civilization to the descent into savagery, showing that even the best of people can fade into savagery.
When Jack and some of the boys split off into their own group or "tribe" it really showed the
evilness in humanity. Ralph and Piggy in "Lord of the flies" were the leaders and helped keep
civilization intact. Without them they became savages and brought out the evil within themselves,
Golding shows this with the narrator saying, "The world, that understandable and lawful world, was
slipping away" (Golding 98) . The tribe was obsessed with hunting pigs and would even chant "Kill
the pig! Cut her throat! Spill

Bill Naughton's Play Spring and Port Wine Essay
Bill Naughton's Play "Spring and Port Wine"
How does the playwright, Bill Naughton, prepare the audience for the first appearance for Rafe on
the stage? What are the audience expected to think about him? 07817966841 224 1970
In this coursework I will be focusing on a play called "Spring and
Port Wine". It was first performed in 1965 and is set about forty years ago. I am going to comment
on how social and historical things have changed since then and how we as an audience are
expected to think of the character called Rafe before his first entry in the play.
At the start of the play in the stage directions we get a lot of information about what Rafe is like. We
find out that he looks after his family by giving them a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You know how he likes everything to be just so". This tells us
Rafe likes everything to be faultless. We are also shown that the family is to some extent frightened
of Rafe when Florence says" God help you if he ever finds out", and "I wouldn't want to tell a
barefaced lie to Rafe". This shows they are afraid of how Rafe might react if he finds out they have
changed some figures in the housekeeping. As the play goes on we discover that Rafe is fussy about
keeping the house clean when Daisy says "Rafe always likes to come home to everything spick and
span of a Friday". This tells us that he expects the house to be spotless before he comes back home
from work. We also learn that Rafe likes routine as Daisy says "Rafe's got this obsession about
keeping accounts straight", and "Rafe always liked fish on
Friday". All this shows that Rafe is scrupulous about the house and money. Betsy Jane, a slovenly
nosey neighbour is a useful character of telling us what the neighbours think of Rafe. We see that
she is in total contrast with the Crompton family because Rafe and his family are very cautious
about money but Betsy Jane is careless with money.
Betsy Jane does not think very highly of Rafe, she thinks that he has no right to get in the way of
how Daisy controls the housekeeping money. We notice this when she says "what right has he to

Malala Women's Rights
Malala is probably the most famous girl activist who is in favor of girls education, but she's not the
only one that's changing the way the world views girls education and women's rights. These other
activists come from all over the world and they are passionate about making the way women and
girls are treated, better. They have come over the barriers that are between them, such as religion
and culture and haven't stopped until they reached their goals. Women's rights and girls education
are issues that affect many women and girls around the world. We need to take an initiative and help
these people who are in need of a voice against these injustices. Here are a few.

The Boy Who Would Be A Helicopter Summary
In the book, The Boy Who Would Be A Helicopter, Vivian Paley (1990), a kindergarten teacher
examines the role of stories and storytelling in teaching her students and addresses the development
of friendship in the classroom. Paley (1990) describes her adventures in understanding and learning
about the minds of her students as they go to multiple unknown places when in the process of play.
Paley (1990) discusses what she has learned and discovered as her students play and act out the
stories that come to their minds. Through Paley (1990)'s voice and the children's play and
conversations, the book follows the story of Jason a lonely boy and his triumph into the storytelling
society of his classmates. This book review will critically evaluate the book's usefulness in light of
the course topics play and friendship. Jason a boy who does not wish to engage with the other
children in the classroom, isolates himself, solely focused on his toy helicopter. He traps himself in
his own fantasy world by building a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the children engage in dramatic and imaginative play together, they are creating stories. These
stories are then told to and transcribed by Paley (1990) and acted out on a pretend stage by the
students in the class. Each student or storyteller in the eyes of Paley (1990), chooses classmates to
perform the roles in his or her story, and each story is re–enacted at least once, if not multiple times.
For example:
Once when snake was sleeping and he was hearing noises bump bump bump that was his friend
alligator. That's Simon. Then there was a bang dong ding dong. Do you like that, Simon? And then
snake said to alligator, "I want something to eat," and alligator said, "Come to my house." Then the
mother snake comes. Katie, you're the mother snake. And she has six babies. Then a lion comes and
the lion tries to get into the dream but he can't. So he goes away.

A Short Story : A Scarlet Story?
Somehow Jackson was able to escape the crowd with Alex. Thankfully the crowd was cheering loud
enough no one heard the desperate cries of his lover being dragged away. He was able to bring him
back to the black smith shop, to which the place Jackson lived. "Alex, you're going to have to quiet
down! WE don't want people to question why you're screaming like this." "I just want my mother!
They killed an innocent women saying that she was a witch! Just because she could do things that
other people can't doesn't mean she's a witch!" Alex was now being hysterical. Old tears where
stained to his face as new ones came down on them. Jackson couldn't take it anymore, so he leaned
down and kissed his heart broken partner in hopes to help him calm down. As he pulled away, there
was no more yelling, screaming, just quiet sobs escaping the lips of Alex. "I know it's tough... I can't
imagine what you could possibly be going through, but I'm right here. It's going to be okay." Alex
looks up at his lover, tears still blur his vision to so much he can barely make out the eyes of
Jackson even though he's only two inches away. "W–What prophecy where t–they talking about?"
he's asks barely able to make out without his voice breaking. "You don't know? I thought everyone
knew it, they taught us while in classes." Alex slowly shakes his head. "Well... to put it short. A
witch cursed the king and queen to never have children, and when she was about to be out on exile
she told them that a man with a weird sight in love will find a flower in the dungeon. Then he and
his partner will receive a child, and the man who found the flower will overthrow the royal family
members to kill them." Alex tenses up at the mention of killing the family. He's always been a
peaceful kind of person and always hate the thought of violence. "J–Jackson what if–" suddenly
there's a loud knock on the door that interrupts Alex's sentence. They both look at each other in
disbelief. Jackson gets up, and motions to Alex to stay put. Alex listens as Jackson walks over to the
door. He stays there for a long time, "J–Jackson?" Alex gets up off the ground, wipes away his tears
but his face is still red. He walks over to the door, and stops dead in his tracks as he

that was the only thing keeping them alive. The only people not dancing were passed out on sofas or

got crazier and crazier. Hali could've sworn that she saw a person with fangs talking to another
person with delicate crystal wings jutting five feet out of her back.

A Short Story : A Story?
"Simon I told you I can't go to your gig tonight!" Seraphina Marullo said frustrated as she struts
down the street in a black mini pencil skirt, matching it with a white crop top. She had black stilettos
on her feet which matched her blazer and purse perfectly. Her makeup was minimal with her hair up
in a messy low side bun that made her look flawless and effortless.
"But you said you would and you didn't come to the last one you promised!" Simon Lewis pointed
out pouting. He hadn't seen her in a month and wanted to introduce her to his other best friend Clary,
who she had never met.
"Yes Simon, but we are all not 18–year–olds who have no job and plenty of free time. I have to
work, so I'm sorry but I'm not able to go your gig." She said with a huff as she walked into her work
building, into the elevator and pressed the button that will take her to the 19 floor.
"Ok, fine well are you busy tomorrow?" Simon asks knowing there's nothing he can do to change
her mind.
"No, why? Do you want to meet me at our cafe?" She asks with a smile. Simon and Seraphina had
met a little cafe in Brooklyn called the 'Hot and Cold Cafe' which was amusing for both her and
Simon. Simon in shock at such an obvious name failed to see Seraphina who was walking up to the
counter. Simon then bumped into her and spilled his drink all over her legs. Simon was frantic,

quiet he still goes through a great deal of misery. Simon is a seen as bizarre and odd to the other

Use of Customs, Dialect and Social Status
In "The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County"
Mark Twain's "The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" is a short story with the lesson
that what goes around comes around. In this short story, which first appeared in 1856 and his first
successful story, Twain uses local customs of the time, dialect, and examples of social status in his
story to create a realistic view of the region in which the story takes place. The way that the
characters behave is very distinctive. Dialect is also used to give the reader a convincing impression
of the setting in "The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County". The social status of the main
characters in this story also was something that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Twain uses local dialect throughout the story. Dialect enhances the story by painting a picture of the
surroundings, giving a deeper understanding of the characters and adding local color. The following
quotes show Twain's main purpose is using dialect, which is to emphasize the rural feel of the story's
setting. On page 1189 the narrator says "He was always ready and laying for a chance; there couldn't
be no solit'ry thing mentioned but that feller'd offer to bet on it, and take ary side you please, as I
was just telling you." On page 1190 the narrator says, "Other dogs jest by the j'int of his hind leg and
freeze to it—not chaw ." Smiley uses some interesting and somewhat peculiar phrases at the end of
the story:
Smiley he stood scratching his head and looking down at Dan'l a long time, and at last he says, ‘I
do wonder what in the nation that frog throw'd off for—I wonder if there ain't something the matter
with him—he ‘pears to look mighty baggy, somehow.' And he ketched Dan'l by his neck, and hefted
him, and says, "Why blame my cats if he don't weigh five pound!"(1192)
On page 1190 Simon says, "Well, this–yer had rat–tarriers, and chicken cocks, and tomcats and all
them ." The use of slang like "solit'ry", "feller'd", and "ary" are manners of speech that rural people

Honesty And Characters : The Importance Of Personality,...
On Tuesday morning, you get to work early so you could enjoy a little time to yourself before the
bell rings and your students start to rush in the classroom. You have your coffee and everything else
that you needed ready for the day. A couple of your students have been misbehaving in the
classroom, and talking to the parents or guardian didn't help at all. The way it has been going you
came up with your own plan to help them learn about character traits. Character traits are all the
aspects of a person's behavior and attitudes that make up that person's personality. They are words
used to describe how characters' act during certain situations or what kind of people they are.
Character traits are sometimes described as good or bad, and everyone has them. Good character
traits are what every parent wants for their kids. We all know and believe that this can set them up
for good, healthy, successful and happy lives. To begin with, the first character trait is honesty.
Honesty and truthfulness to self and to others makes you a reliable individual. It is an important
character trait to instill in children. All students will benefit from learning about honesty, earning
trust and trusting in others. It really requires a lot of courage, respect, responsibility, and good

William Golding 's Lord Of The Flies
"Civilization is like a thin layer of ice upon a deep ocean of chaos and darkness" (Werner Herzog).
In places such as the Middle East, many places are in chaos. With much of the time spent fighting
against others, for what cause or what price, seems irrelevant. However, many times during the
fighting, when everything is scarce, the true natures of people come out. If there is a shortage in
food, or medical supplies, people are not afraid to turn on once neighbors to steal if need be. Once
"the law" stops caring, there is nothing stopping people from doing whatever they like. In the
Middle East, in the places where war is going on, many people don't really notice the beasts around
themselves. In Lord of the Flies, Golding shows an island ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A small boy requested the conch, and while being laughed at "He says the beastie came in the dark."
"Then he couldn't see it!" followed by laughter and cheers (36). Here the group is laughing at the
very fact of there being a beast on the island, and just dismiss it. Golding uses two distinct moods
contrasting each other, with the little ones in a scared and worried state, while the big ones laugh
and cheer and have fun. To a degree, there is dramatic irony present here when the big ones claim
that there is no beast and laugh it off, the audience knows that there is in fact a type of "beast" on the
island. After spending more time on the island, the big ones mood changes away from the laughter
and joy that was previously there. While Ralph and Jack are discussing about how the young ones
are scared of the island Simon says "As if, the beastie, the beastie or the snake–thing, was real.
Remember? The two older boys flinched when they heard the shameful syllable" (52). Only now is
everyone starting to recognize that there is in fact a beast on the island. The boys were originally
going to hunt and kill all the snakes on the island, but it transformed from being something that they
hunted to being scared or shamed by them. Now the beast is no longer a laughing matter, but a
slightly more pressed issue with many smaller kids being scared of it, and bringing shame in the
form of the snakes of the island.

Furthermore, Biff, along with Happy tries to conjure up a crazy idea of putting on a sporting goods

wants to do something his way even though he knows that another option would be the wiser choice.
Charley practically sets a potential job into Willy's lap and Willy refuses it. Willy was just fired and
needs a job. He then refuses one. Willy is too stubborn to let go of his old job (which he no longer
has) and take a new one. He still believes that he is at the top of his profession. When Willy does not
get his way he acts just as a child would. He has tantrums such as when he basically challenged
Charley to a fight after Charley told him to grow up, "if you say that to me again I'll rap you one"

Biff cannot handle being ignored, so he steals a pen. "I don't know what came over me, Hap...I took

Corporate Governance Of Listed Companies
Corporate Governance of Listed Private Companies' Board of Directors in China
Abstract
This paper investigated the corporate governance of Board of Directors of listed companies in
China. As the research results shows that, the governance of the board in China plays a critical roles
for the listed firms corporate performance. This paper discusses the board features including board
size, board meetings frequency, board independence, and the leadership structure of the board in
china in relationship with the corporate performance. For the corporate performance, I am using the

However, China, as a government enterprise focused country whose percentage of government held
enterprises are over fifty percent for half of the century. The most of the research has been done are
more focused on the government owned corporation. In addition, compared to the government held
corporation, the size private enterprise is smaller and with the limited resources for the private held
entity, it is easily to cause the information asymmetry. The outside shareholders are more easily to
be at a disadvantage. Therefore it is critical to understand the relationships between the board
characters and the corporate performance. Based on my research, most of the papers for the Chinese
corporate performance are more focused on the executive compensation, and little research has been
done for the relationship between the board of directors and the corporate performance. Therefore,
to be able to better understanding the relationship and to better control the private held entity, this
paper will discuss with it.
Discovery of Papers in this Area
For this paper, I first looked at some of the research that has been done for North America and
finding some of the measures that they are using for the proxy. Most of the researchers will
investigate the Chinese corporate performance governance based on two main reasons which are

Advantages Of The Enterprise And Regulatory Reform
This essay aims to lay out the advantages and disadvantages of the Enterprise and Regulatory
Reform Acts 2013's affect upon corporate governance, and more specifically, executive
compensation. Using a selection of sources from the media to give examples and illustrate opinions
held by different stakeholders, the essay will provide an overview of the potential changes to the
business market in the UK and the factors on which these changes depend. Whilst researching
around the topic, I also had an opportunity to speak with several owners of small–medium sized
enterprises, SMEs, who gave me an insight into their opinions from working alongside company
CEOs.
Companies are directed and controlled by a system known as corporate governance, in which boards
of directors are responsible for governing their companies. The board of directors have
responsibilities such as setting strategy aims for the company, supervising management and
providing leadership. They must also report to the shareholders on their duties as directors. Their
actions are subject to laws and regulations, as well as the shareholders in a general meeting. The
shareholders appoint directors and auditors and must satisfy themselves that the structure in place to
govern the company is adequate, (Financial Reporting Council, 2014).
The recent economic recession has caused many UK businesses to suffer a fall in revenues, and
therefore profits. Due to this, shareholders have angered by their reduced dividends and some

Kinky Boots Analysis
Kinky Boots Playwright: Harvey Fierstein Charlie Price......Lance Bordelon Lola......Jos N.Banks
Kinky Boots, one of Broadway's newer hits starting its legacy in 2012, has drawn in critics and
lovers alike with its charm and charisma. This heartwarming show features a young man by the
name of Charlie Price who was forced to take over the family business after his father passed away.
Profits begin to tank when a major company cancels their seasonal order and all others. Price came
to a realization due to his fiancée's obsession with a certain pair of shoes and decides to invest in the
"niche market" of creating feminine shoes for men. This stroke of genius wasn't entirely thanks to
his fiancée, in fact the source of inspiration came from a drag queen who goes by Lola. Price met
Lola while he was walking in London one night as Lola was being robbed and he mistook him for a
defenseless woman. Price calles Lola, explains the current situation, and asks for his advice. He,
Lola, tells Price what he wants, but apparently not all that well. When Lola comes back to the shoe
factory to get his boots, he is very disappointed by what he sees. The boots aren't the right color, and
aren't far enough of the ground for the diva. Lola draws out a few ideas of what would look better
than the flat burgundy pieces of leather Price originally constructed. Lola's designs are like nothing
Charlie has ever seen. Price asks him to come to Price and Son's and design shoes. The goal was to

The Music of Generation X
The Music of Generation X
Since the beginning of time the human beings have adored the soothing sounds of music. Music has
affected the way people have behaved and dressed throughout different periods of time. Different
groups have been formed based upon their preference in music. Take for an example in the music of
my generation, Generation X, there are several different groups oriented by music.
In Generation X punks, gangs, alternative people, ravers, hippies, and pop rockers have all been
labeled into groups by their preference of music. Music has also affected people mentally, causing
problems in society like suicide, depression, hate/racism, violence, and drug addiction. I am about to
examine five different song lyrics of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last song was just released last Wednesday. "Hope in a Hopeless
World," by Widespread Panic is a song that geniunely conveys the problems in today 's society. The
title itself explains the behaviors of depression and loss of reality. The song looks at the downfalls in
our society and how things went wrong. The line, "What ever happened to the Golden Rule?" says
enough to explain my thoughts. The Golden Rule in my opinion is a major norm in our society, and
with that out of the way everything is really unfriendly and depressing. "Looking for hope in a
hopeless world" explains that people are trying to come out and have a life, but there are so many
drawbacks that they are often stuck. The song also says that you have to keep trying:
You 've got to listen to the voice inside Peace and love don 't compromise Time is passing by Can 't
be standing still.
Music in Generation X has had more affect on society than any other generation has had. More
social groups have been formed and many more feelings have been expressed through our music.
Society is overall effected by music and always will be.

Essay On Who Fired First
Who fired first in the historical Battle of Lexington? Well there is no right answer history has shown
people have come up with theses trying to prove what had happened but we just really don't know.
But I think I have found the the answer. I believe the colonist fired first because they have a history
of antagonizing the british in some situation's it has turned deadly. Also on many accounts of the
events they had been found guilty of firing first. My reasons to support my thesis are from British
Lieutenant John Barker's personal diary of the day of the event and George Leonard a colonist who

My first rebuttal source is Simon Winships official deposition 6 days after the event. He claims that
the british fired first when he says "The troops marched on till they came within a few rods of

observed an officer at the head of said troops flourishing his sword, and with a loud voice giving the

fire first. But this is not a reliable source for the reason of it is 6 days after the event they may forget
some stuff as if it was on the day of the event as both of my sources. Also then is it more reliable if a
colonist say it was a colonist or a british claiming it was the colonist.
My final piece of rebuttal evidence is from the official deposition of Sylvanus Wood. He claims it
was the british when he says "There was not a gun fired by any of Captain Parkers company within
my knowledge". So he was supposedly on the frontline with Captain Parker and they claimed that

Allegory In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
There is a dark side to every human being; it is the savagery that underlies even the most civilized
human beings. It is society that helps hide it and condition us to be good. The novel, "The Lord of
the Flies", by author William Golding is an eye opening, allegory story about a group of British
school boys who survive a plane crash(during World War 2) and end up on a deserted/isolated
island, with no adults. They are forced to hunt, survive, and create shelter to survive, without regular
civilization/try to recreate the civilization they used to have. Golding uses the boys to illustrate the
evil of human nature. He uses events that start from good to a disaster as the boys try to survive
their, deserted, and unsupervised situation/circumstance/setting. ... Show more content on

However, it stands for a bigger meaning. The "beast" symbolizes the savagery that exists within all
humans. At first, it's nothing but a product of the boys' imaginations. However, Simon realizes that
they fear the beast because it exists only within them when he says, "What I mean is... maybe it's
only us" (Golding, page 89). Simon says this during a meeting, which the boys were discussing the
beast. He proposed that perhaps the beast was the boys themselves. Despite, the other boys not
paying attention to Simon's proposition; his words are significant to Golding's views of societal
evils. This symbol is one of the most significant to the novel. It is important to Golding's point about
human nature, and showing us this. Simon is the smartest and concludes that the beast is within
them. When he has the vision in the forest and confronts the Lord of the Flies, it says, "There isn't
anyone to help you. Only me. And I'm the beast." "Fancy thinking the Beast was something you
could kill!"... "You knew, didn't you? I'm part of you?"(Golding, page 143). The Lord of the Flies
says this to Simon during Simon's vison. This confirms Golding's idea that perhaps the beast is the
boys themselves. The Lord of the Flies explains himself as the beast that is within all of

Analysis Of The Movie ' American Beauty '
The film American Beauty is about Lester Burnham and the people he interacts with leading up to
his death such as Carolyn his wife, Jane his daughter, Angela Jane's best friend and Lester's love
interest, and Frank, Lester's next–door neighbor and the father of Jane 's boyfriend Ricky. In this
essay I will discuss how the people in Lester 's life act when no one is looking or their private selves
and the way they act when they know that someone is watching them; their public selves (Adler,
Proctor, 51–52), as well as how they manage their identities or better yet how they influence how
others see them (Adler, Proctor, 51).
Carolyn's public self is elegant, charming, and always smiling. Carolyn presents herself as such
towards her neighbors, acquaintances, and potential clients, she does this in order to be excepted,
because she cares what people think about her and how they see her. One example of Carolyn
managing the identity she has created is when she is in the front yard of her house working in the
garden and Lester thinks to himself "That 's my wife Carolyn. See the way the handle on those
pruning shears matches her gardening clogs? That 's not an accident." The way Carolyn coordinates
her clothing from her shoes to the tools she is using that day shows her obsession with looking good
in the eyes of others thus she manages her identity through her appearance (Adler, Proctor, 55).
Another example that shows this is when they go to the greater rockwell realtor

is safely secured with a locked gate that separates the outside door which leads to the younger

presented to him. Konnor begins to stack up the Lego blocks separately according to the color; all
the blue blocks were stacked neatly in a separate stack, as well as the red blocks and so on. Konnor
shows maturation and according to Berger, maturation of the prefrontal cortex can be identified
through observing children play certain games such as Simon Says, and "the color game," which
was found that children were able to sort the cards out by their color. (234) Konnor shows
maturation because he was able to unstack the uncoordinated colored blocks to color coordinate
them, unlike a few children surrounding him who profusely stacked the blocks, regardless of the
color order. At 3 years and 8 months old, Konnor is within the norm for this development since it
appears at 3 years old (Berger, 234). Konnor picks up a tree branch that has fallen beside a tree, he
stares at it and looks up at the tree and back at the branch. With the branch still gripped firmly in his
hand, Konnor begins to lift his body to wrap his arms and legs around the tree. Hugging the tree
with his body, Konnor begins to ease his way up the tree by pushing his legs up first to scoot the
lower half of his body up, and then lifting his arms up further to scoot up his upper body as well.
Konnor shows gross motor skills and according to Berger, gross motor skills are defined as,

The United States Federal Government
How about maybe? In this paper I will outline the problems of the pedagogical approach the United
States federal government took in light of the War on Drugs on the wide public education on drug
use. I will examine two different articles from Think Progress and The Guardian that argue against
the 1986 initiative by Nancy Reagan that became one of the most subtle but destructive aspects
about the War on Drugs. She started an country wide program aimed at educating the youth. More
specifically on being able to prevent drug use in teenagers. However, there were unintended
consequences that I believe negatively affected the minds bodies and futures of those same
teenagers they were trying to help out. Also, the seemingly noble intent to ... Show more content on

For instance, shortly after its initiation, police officers started being brought into public schools. The
usual events were comprised of drug prevention talks where the police demonize drug dealers and
shared their experiences dealing with drugged out people. While these scare tactics give an
appearance of deterrence there was a study cited in the article by Scientific American, conducted
that teenagers were just as likely to use drugs after through these abstinence based programs than if
they didn't get any information at all. The article also found a fatal flaw in the DARE campaigns
pedagogy, it was the lack of student in student role play on how to handle social situations with
drugs. Bringing in the longitudinal study from a reputable source reinforces the argument against the
DARE programs pedagogy. Not only did they show that has the Nancy Reagan philosophy been
ineffective, the article subtly made a point to highlight how wasteful it must have been to use our tax
money to fund ineffective police educational programs. While no statistics were shown, the fact that
these programs were found to be highly ineffective gives this argument quite a bit of merit. Parallel
to this, in 1986 congress passed the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act which mandated a
zero tolerance policy to drugs in schools. This was the first time police officers began arresting
students straight out of schools. This fact also shines light on the how destructive a simple minded

Lord Of The Flies Innocence Analysis
In Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows the evolution of savagery on the island by starting the
book with the boys being innocent school boys, but in the middle the boys start to become violent
and show signs of savagery. Towards the end, savagery takes over the whole island. Golding has the
boys represent innocence at the beginning of the book, savagery and innocence in the middle, and
savagery at the end to show the important theme of savagery.
First, the evolution of savagery starts when the boys land on the island and are just innocent school
boys. One of the first signs of innocence shown is when Jack, Ralph, and Simon corner a pig to kill,
but Jack can't get himself to kill it. Golding describe it by writing, "Then the piglet tore loose from
the creepers and scurried into the undergrowth. They were left looking at each other and the place of
terror. Jack's face was white under the freckles"(31). Jack does not kill the pig because he cannot
take a life. This demonstrates innocence because he still values life and knows right from wrong.
Jack also is embarrassed that he did not kill the pig and uses the excuse that he was thinking of a
spot to stab it. This shows he is still immature and cares about what the other boys think about him.
At the beginning of the book, the boys also decide they need to have rules. Jack says, "We've got to
have rules and obey them. After all we're not savages"(42). The boys are still used to civilization and
are trying to use it on the

Summary Of Golding In Lord Of The Flies
During this portion of the chapter, Jack, tired from running, stops walking through the forest to catch
his breath. The character continued on. His hair had grown longer and was lighter from the sun's
rays. His back was sunburn and was starting to peel. Only wearing his distressed shorts and carrying
a sharp stick in his right hand, Jack crouches to within inches of the ground as the narrator notes,
"He closed his eyes, raised his head, and breathed in gently with flared nostrils, assessing the current
of warm air for information. The forest and he were very still"(Golding 48). Jack continues walking
forward. The forest is quiet, more overwhelming than the heat. As the sound from a bird echoes
through the trees, Jack crouches for cover and the narrator notes, "And for a minute became less a
hunter than a furtive thing, ape–like among the tangle of trees"(Golding 49). On his knees, Jack
angrily scrutinizes the ground, looking for a clue. Moving like a shadow under the trees, he stoops
down again and examined the ground. With his spear raised Jack walks deeper into the forest.
Finally, he comes across a pig–run. After hearing movement Jack steadily rises to his feet. Moving
his right arm back, he threw the spear with all his might. The sound of hoofs stammering comes
from the pig–run, which meant for Jack, meat. Running from under the bushes, Jack picks up his
spear ready to kill, but the narrator notes that "the pattering of pigs trotters died away in the
distance" (Golding

Reflection Of Lord Of The Flies
The Lord of the Flies is one of the most well–known books. This book evokes fear, discomfort, and
even confusion. This rapid pulse classic isn't about boys shipwrecked on an island but a secret
experiment created by the British government gone tragically wrong. There are so many facts that
support this idea. This book relates to Lost, Divergent, The Hunger Games, and even The Maze
Runner. All of these children wake up to find themselves on an island. They have no idea how they
go there and the plane to completely gone. It is almost as if someone just dropped the boys off and
left. Miraculously as well these children were on an uninhabited island that had livable conditions
for them. This was the perfect set up for a simulation! Let go straight into the first chapter of the
book. It starts off the book with Ralph and a boy named Piggy. They find themselves on this island
that is completely deserted. (Page 1–2)
"Where's the man with the megaphone?"
The fair boy shook his head. "This is an island. At least I think it's an island. That's a reef out in the
sea. Perhaps there aren't any grownups anywhere." The fat boy looked startled."
What this is showing is that Ralph and Piggy are discovering they are on an island all alone. They
currently do not know how they got there or if there are other people. Isn't it strange though when
Ralph and Piggy wake up they are in the forest and not on the beach? If their plane had crashed the
plane would most

"Lord of the Flies" by William Golding Essay
Lord of the Flies "is both a story with a message" and "a great tale of adventure". The novel Lord of
the Flies by William Golding is an allegorical novel representing what the world was like during
World War II. The novel is about a group of boys who survive a plane crash during the Blitzkrieg.
The boys are stranded on an island and must find a way to survive until they are rescued. Most of
the characters do not even know each other before the crash happens. As the novel progresses, the
characters begin to show their different personalities. Ralph, Simon, and Jack have individual traits
and personal qualities that are represented in Lord of the Flies. For instance, Ralph is a character
who symbolizes civilization and order through his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simon helps the kids get fruit from the tree. This shows that Simon is helpful to those who need
him. Simon is also insightful throughout the story. An example of Simon's insight is when the group
of boys talk about the beast. Simon says that maybe it is only themselves who are the beasts. This
example shows that Simon sees what many of the boys do not. Simon later has a seizure and meets
the Lord of the Flies. This seizure shows that Simon was talking to himself and seeing even more
what they have become. Jack is a character that represents savagery and manipulation. An example
of Jack's savage behavior when Jack and his tribe kill the sow. Worst of all, Jack's tribe also mutilate
the sow by shoving the spear right up the sow's rear end. Then Jack orders Roger to put the sow's
head on a double sided spear as an offering to the beast. The placing of the sow's head, as well as the
hunting help ensure Jack's dominance over the boys. Jack has dominance because he uses
manipulation to make his group follow him through fear of the beast. The placing of the sows head
represents this, because if Jack's tribe did not believe in the beast they would not have placed it. One
representation of Jack's savage behavior effecting others is when Jack's tribe goes into a trance and
suddenly want to "kill the beast", "cut his throat", and "spill his blood"(152). This shows that Jack
has become so savage, he cannot recognize between what is

Lesson Reflection
1. Briefly describe what you planned to do and explain if you changed anything along the way
(flexibility is key!!)
What I planned to do was to explain to the students that points, lines, line segments, rays, and planes
are everywhere. They are the building blocks of geometry. Then, I went through my PowerPoint and
explained what each of the figures are. I explained that a point has no dimensions and is a location
on a plane. It is also represented by a dot. I went on and did the same thing for a line, parallel lines,
perpendicular lines, intersecting lines, line segment, ray, and a plane. Throughout the lesson I went
through the worksheet and showed the students how to draw, name/read, and write each one of
them. After that we did the line song. I should them what each one was using my arms. Finally, I
play the game Simon says. During the game, I kept saying Simon says, but then I did not to see if
the students were listening. A couple of students were not, but then got the hang of it then. I changed
my lesson a little bit by going out of order. I did the PowerPoint first, then did the worksheet, played
a game, and then the coffee stirrers.
2. How do you feel the students responded to your activity(ies)? Tell me about some of their
responses.
I feel that the students responded pretty good to the activities. With the worksheet, I hand some of
the students tell me what each one was or how it is to be read, written, drawn. Some of the students

Simon As A Christ Figure In Lord Of The Flies By William...
John T. Martin

Mrs. Mullally

It has been suggested that Simon is a Christ–figure in the novel. Describe some of his qualities and
actions which justify such a comparison.
In the novel, The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, there are a series of characters that
represent different themes, figures, and ideas. Some characters, for example, show leadership,
wisdom, a desire for power, gullibility, and Christ–likeness. These roles are equally as important for
the setup and flow of the novel, but one represents love, sacrifice, and a Christ–like idealism more
than the others. Although his age is never identified, Simon is depicted as one of the more mature
boys and seems to be the only one who remains in a constant and civilized mindset throughout his
time on the island. Simon has an innate goodness and represents a constant moral behavior. His
ability to be a light to the other boys along with his ability to recognize that "the beast" and evil
dwells more so in them than on the actual island, is very important in the novels storyline. The first
major event that really stands out as a representation to Simon's Christ–likeness is when Jack brings
back the first pig for the boys to eat. Jack is the hunter in the group and the most evil character of
the boys. Even though he provides food, his desire for power and the re–occurring events of his evil
actions show his downfall from civilization. Upon Jack's return with meat, he gives all the

Lord Of The Flies Critical Analysis
Lord of the Flies is a twisted tale that blends the savagery of the human race with the civilization of
everyday life. Golding shows that authority can corrupt the mind of those who try to abuse their
power in the wrong way. Golding wrote in a manner that was realistic in order to show the
imperfections of human nature. There was more significance behind the simple elegance of his
words than just a fictional story. The many layers prevalent throughout the novel must be peeled
back one by one in order to fully understand the concept effusively.
Golding uses a style of description and vivid imagery to allow the reader to access their imagination
in order to visualize the scenery of the book. The author describes the creepers and pink ... Show

Many lines come to mind when recalling the vivid scenes from Lord of the Flies, but some touched
me more than others. Ralph says, "Sucks to your ass–mar" (Golding, 10). This quote, pulled from
the beginning of the book, sets the tone for the rest of the book. The reader can immediately tell that
slang and colloquial words will be expressed throughout the text. Next, the words that Piggy
exclaims while trying to get the islanders to refocus on what matters after so much talk of the beast,
"What are we? Humans? Or Animals? Or Savages?" (Golding, 123) Piggy starts to realize that the
boys are headed down the wrong path if they ever want to get rescued from their eminent death. He
speaks furiously and ponders what the adults would think if they could see the reckless behavior
being shown on the island. In another quote, Golding describes the relationship between Ralph and
Jack in such simple but elegant words, "They looked at each other, baffled, in love and hate"
(Golding, 70). Ralph and Jack butt heads throughout the entirety of the work. Each character had a
different leadership style, and each wanted what the other despised. Ralph thought that a fire was the
most important job on this island, whereas Jack was a killer at heart and spent majority of his time
hunting for wild pigs. The unforgettable chant that was shouted will never stray from my mind when

Essay on Jack and Simon in Chapter Three of the Lord of...
Jack and Simon in Chapter Three of the Lord of the Flies
In the Lord of the Flies, William Golding makes many contrasts between his symbolic characters.
For example in chapter three, 'Huts on the beach', many contrasts and similarities are made between
the two characters Jack and Simon. These descriptions give an idea to their personality and feelings.
The description of Simon in the jungle, and Jack in the woods highlights many of their differences.
Jack is alone and descriptions like, 'with flared nostrils', and 'ape– like' suggest he is behaving like
an animal. Jack's appearance is also starting to resemble animals, as his hair has grown, 'longer', and
his skin darker with, 'a mess of dark freckles'. Simon's appearance is ... Show more content on

This clearly shows an unusual ability Simon has, and resembles a Jesus figure, the descriptions, in
contrast to the wood
Jack is in, seem surreal, and tranquil. Jack in the wood is set with,
'a sharpened stick about five feet long', reflecting a threatening, tense atmosphere.
Simon is with the littuns and he is shown to be generous and caring, as he, 'found for them the fruit
they could not reach, pulled of the choicest'. This is an example of the effort Simon took to be caring
for others. This is also shown by Simon's willingness to help with the building of the huts, when all
the others ran away, leaving the responsibility to Ralph. This shows he is considerate to others. Jack,
however is extremely unwilling to help with the huts, and is annoyed when Ralph gives Simon
gratitude for helping, as when Simon is not by the huts Jack tries to make up excuses like, 'got fed
up', and, 'he's buzzed off', trying to make Simon in the wrong. Jack is obsessed about catching a pig
and seems to want to catch one for the enjoyment, rather than the food it would give. Jacks
obsession is shown after
Ralph has been expressing how upset he is that no one helps with the hut, when he bluntly
comments, 'we need meat' and when Ralph mentions rescue, Jack says, 'I'd like to catch a pig first'
and is not prepared to keep the fire going for rescue purposes. These are examples of how desperate
Jack wants to catch the pig, and how he

Why Do People Say A Picture In Jane Eyre
People say a picture is worth a thousand words. In the novel "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Brontë, that's
exactly what they mean to Jane. Jane Eyre is an orphan who grows up experiencing solitude and
cruelty while living with her abusive aunt and cousins. Jane continues to endure these things while
being a student at Lowood, but when she gets to be a governess at Thornfield, she soon finds
happiness while falling in love with her employer, Edward Rochester. Brontë's use of paintings and
pictures in the novel help us get a better understanding of what Jane's feelings and thoughts are by
getting an unfiltered view of her past and herself.
In the earlier chapters of the novel, Jane is ten years old and she is admiring some pictures. The first
picture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is told that Blanche is a beautiful woman, and that Rochester has a liking for her. Jane then
draws a portrait of herself and of Blanche. "An hour or two sufficed to sketch my own portrait in
crayons; and in less than a fortnight I had completed an ivory miniature of an imaginary Blanche
Ingram." (Brontë 187) Jane knows that she isn't attractive, but she was just starting to realize that
she might have a chance with Rochester and when she finds out that Rochester likes Blanche, Jane's
confidence goes away. In a fit of jealousy, Jane draws the two portraits but makes hers plain, and
ugly, and in crayon. When drawing Blanche's portrait, Jane uses beautiful soft colors and her best
materials, and she tries to make it as beautiful as possible. She chooses to draw her picture in
crayon, because crayons make hard, streaky lines, and cannot be blended well together. This helps
Jane focus the attention to the plainness in her face, as well as helping her seem ugly. She uses her
'freshest, finest, clearest tints' and her 'most delicate camel–hair pencils' to paint Blanche because
she wants to make her appear delicate and gorgeous. She uses this range of materials and drawing
styles to contrast her simplicity with Blanche's alluring

One Republic: Song Analysis
For my first Song I picked ordinary human by One Republic. I picked this song as When Jace and
Clary first see each other. In the book they are both surprised. Jace is surprised because he saw that
Clary could see him kill the blue haired boy. This is shown in the beginning of the song when it says
today I felt a switch in my veins meaning that today something irregular happened. Then it says I
used to be a shadow implying that someone can now see him which is Clary who can not only see
him but later in the movie can see him figuratively as in she can tell what he is feeling and she
knows him better than anyone because they are brother and sister. Then the song says now a shadow
screaming my name. This describes the moment when Clary sees the blue haired boy die and she
screams. Next the song says in the daylight I could swear we were the same. ... Show more content

I picked this song as music that would play in the movie when Jace and Clary go into the flower
garden that lights up at night. This song would be played with no speaking the entire seen until the
end. There are many ways this song could be related to the book but i chose just a couple for
shortened writing purposes. There is a lyric that says that I want to shelter you but with the beast
inside there's nowhere we can hide. This is implying that Jace is wanting to protect Clary not as a
sister yet but as a loved one and then as seen later in the series he is a monster truly because he is
part demon. Another lyric says this is my kingdom come. This is symbolic because the mansion they
live in looks like a huge castle and because Jace says that this in his favorite place in the mansion
therefore this is his kingdom. The next lyric says when you feel my heat look into my eyes it's where
my demons hide. This is again referring to his inner demon but this is also describing the seen in the
flower garden when they kiss and they are all dreamy looking into each other's

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight By Jane Yolen

  • 1. How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight By Jane Yolen The author I chose for this project was Jane Yolen. Before this project I had never heard of her; after this project I was shocked that I never had. Going through the list of authors and illustrators on the Reading Rockets website I decided the way I was going to choose my author was by a catchy title of the book under their name. When I cam across Jane the title under her name was How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? Being a dinosaur lover that instantly caught my eye. After watching Jane's interview I was ecstatic with my choice. She was born in New York City in 1939. Both of Jane's parents were well–established writers, so it was only natural for her to follow in their footsteps. Jane has always enjoyed writing; she can still remember and site ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Ocean Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies A symbol is anything that represents an object, an idea, a character, an action, or an animal in the story. Many times, these symbols signify something conceptual, like a force of nature, a condition of the world, or an idea. In the book, Lord Of The Flies, there are many symbols that signify the beginning or end of something new in the story. For example, the island and the ocean, the water current flowing backwards, and the beast all symbolize a new change and realization to the story. The island and the ocean symbolize an uncharted, untouched area, the indefinite and endless nature of life that can change from calm to chaos in seconds, and, also, strength, tranquility, and stability. The island and the ocean symbolize both a paradise and also the destructive nature of humanity. The island can symbolize a Garden of Eden, a pristine and bountiful place where the boys can begin anew. In the beginning of the book, Jack says, "we are going to have fun on this island" (Golding 104). The boys really did think of this island as a paradise, or at least Jack did. However, much like the biblical Garden of Eden, paradise can be suddenly lost when the boys are enticed by evil. "The advent of the boys pollutes the sanctity of the island, as did the advent of Satan and the eventual temptation of Eve and loss and innocence" ("Lauryn Galloway"). The 'pristine paradise' is set on fire by the boys and everything gets destroyed but luckily it saved them because a ship saw the smoke. The ocean can symbolize the incessant and endless nature of life but it also symbolizes becoming astray and then finding one's way through life. The ocean is a boundless space isolating the boys from all they once knew about the world. But after Simon dies and gets washed out into the sea, the ocean symbolizes all good getting washed away, getting replaced by evil. Simon becomes the good bygone and Jack becomes the evil washing over. But the island and the ocean aren't the only symbols in the book. The water current flowing backwards, that deceives many into thinking it is just a detail, actually symbolizes more. The water current flowing backwards can symbolize many things. It could be "giving the subtle impression that civilization may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Savagery In Lord Of The Flies Civilizations come in many different forms but even the best of them can descend into savagery. The boys being stranded on an island made civilization very hard to keep, thus making it not very difficult for them to descend into savagery. The first time the boys started to show signs of savagery was when Jack and some other boys split off and made a "tribe." They put on face paint and hunted the pigs religiously not caring for their rescue, as all of them had already assumed they weren't going to get rescued. Killing Simon and Piggy showed the true evilness in humanity when civilization falls. Jack and his tribe went mad after that going on a rampage and to do whatever pleased them. The tribe did not care for the well being of other and only focused on themselves. Lord of the Flies by William Golding clearly displays the evil in humanity through the loss of civilization to the descent into savagery, showing that even the best of people can fade into savagery. When Jack and some of the boys split off into their own group or "tribe" it really showed the evilness in humanity. Ralph and Piggy in "Lord of the flies" were the leaders and helped keep civilization intact. Without them they became savages and brought out the evil within themselves, Golding shows this with the narrator saying, "The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away" (Golding 98) . The tribe was obsessed with hunting pigs and would even chant "Kill the pig! Cut her throat! Spill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bill Naughton's Play Spring and Port Wine Essay Bill Naughton's Play "Spring and Port Wine" How does the playwright, Bill Naughton, prepare the audience for the first appearance for Rafe on the stage? What are the audience expected to think about him? 07817966841 224 1970 In this coursework I will be focusing on a play called "Spring and Port Wine". It was first performed in 1965 and is set about forty years ago. I am going to comment on how social and historical things have changed since then and how we as an audience are expected to think of the character called Rafe before his first entry in the play. At the start of the play in the stage directions we get a lot of information about what Rafe is like. We find out that he looks after his family by giving them a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You know how he likes everything to be just so". This tells us Rafe likes everything to be faultless. We are also shown that the family is to some extent frightened of Rafe when Florence says" God help you if he ever finds out", and "I wouldn't want to tell a barefaced lie to Rafe". This shows they are afraid of how Rafe might react if he finds out they have changed some figures in the housekeeping. As the play goes on we discover that Rafe is fussy about keeping the house clean when Daisy says "Rafe always likes to come home to everything spick and span of a Friday". This tells us that he expects the house to be spotless before he comes back home from work. We also learn that Rafe likes routine as Daisy says "Rafe's got this obsession about keeping accounts straight", and "Rafe always liked fish on Friday". All this shows that Rafe is scrupulous about the house and money. Betsy Jane, a slovenly nosey neighbour is a useful character of telling us what the neighbours think of Rafe. We see that she is in total contrast with the Crompton family because Rafe and his family are very cautious about money but Betsy Jane is careless with money. Betsy Jane does not think very highly of Rafe, she thinks that he has no right to get in the way of how Daisy controls the housekeeping money. We notice this when she says "what right has he to interfere with your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paley (1990) describes her adventures in understanding and learning about the minds of her students as they go to multiple unknown places when in the process of play. Paley (1990) discusses what she has learned and discovered as her students play and act out the stories that come to their minds. Through Paley (1990)'s voice and the children's play and conversations, the book follows the story of Jason a lonely boy and his triumph into the storytelling society of his classmates. Seraphina Marullo said frustrated as she struts down the street in a black mini pencil skirt, matching it with a white crop top. She had black stilettos on her feet which matched her blazer and purse perfectly. Her makeup was minimal with her hair up in a messy low side bun that made her look flawless and effortless. "But you said you would and you didn't come to the last one you promised!" Simon Lewis pointed out pouting. He hadn't seen her in a month and wanted to introduce her to his other best friend Clary, who she had never met. "Yes Simon, but we are all not 18–year–olds who have no job and plenty of free time. I have to work, so I'm sorry but I'm not able to go your gig." She said with a huff as she walked into her work building, into the elevator and pressed the button that will take her to the 19 floor. "Ok, fine well are you busy tomorrow?" Simon asks knowing there's nothing he can do to change her mind. "No, why? Do you want to meet me at our cafe?" She asks with a smile. Simon and Seraphina had met a little cafe in Brooklyn called the 'Hot and Cold Cafe' which was amusing for both her and Simon. Simon in shock at such an obvious name failed to see Seraphina who was walking up to the counter. Simon then bumped into her and spilled his drink all over her legs. Simon was frantic, thinking he had burned the beautiful woman, but she hadn't felt it at all. She then asked him to sit with her and the rest was history. "Yeah, anyway I have to go to Champagne Enigma prac–" "Are you still going with that god awful name? Seriously Simon?" She snorts while shaking her head amused. Finally, the elevator doors open and she walks towards the room at the end of the long narrow hall. "Yes, yes we are. I quite like that name you know!" Simons says offended. You have your coffee and everything else that you needed ready for the day. A couple of your students have been misbehaving in the classroom, and talking to the parents or guardian didn't help at all. The way it has been going you came up with your own plan to help them learn about character traits. Character traits are all the aspects of a person's behavior and attitudes that make up that person's personality. They are words used to describe how characters' act during certain situations or what kind of people they are. Character traits are sometimes described as good or bad, and everyone has them. Good character traits are what every parent wants for their kids. We all know and believe that this can set them up for good, healthy, successful and happy lives. To begin with, the first character trait is honesty. Honesty and truthfulness to self and to others makes you a reliable individual. It is an important character trait to instill in children. All students will benefit from learning about honesty, earning trust and trusting in others. It really requires a lot of courage, respect, responsibility, and good judgment from others. In places such as the Middle East, many places are in chaos. With much of the time spent fighting against others, for what cause or what price, seems irrelevant. However, many times during the fighting, when everything is scarce, the true natures of people come out. If there is a shortage in food, or medical supplies, people are not afraid to turn on once neighbors to steal if need be. Golding uses two distinct moods contrasting each other, with the little ones in a scared and worried state, while the big ones laugh and cheer and have fun. To a degree, there is dramatic irony present here when the big ones claim that there is no beast and laugh it off, the audience knows that there is in fact a type of "beast" on the island. After spending more time on the island, the big ones mood changes away from the laughter and joy that was previously there. While Ralph and Jack are discussing about how the young ones are scared of the island Simon says "As if, the beastie, the beastie or the snake–thing, was real. Remember? The two older boys flinched when they heard the shameful syllable" (52). Only now is everyone starting to recognize that there is in fact a beast on the island. The boys were originally going to hunt and kill all the snakes on the island, but it transformed from being something that they hunted to being scared or shamed by them. Using a selection of sources from the media to give examples and illustrate opinions held by different stakeholders, the essay will provide an overview of the potential changes to the business market in the UK and the factors on which these changes depend. Whilst researching around the topic, I also had an opportunity to speak with several owners of small–medium sized enterprises, SMEs, who gave me an insight into their opinions from working alongside company CEOs. Companies are directed and controlled by a system known as corporate governance, in which boards of directors are responsible for governing their companies. The board of directors have responsibilities such as setting strategy aims for the company, supervising management and providing leadership. They must also report to the shareholders on their duties as directors. Their actions are subject to laws and regulations, as well as the shareholders in a general meeting. The shareholders appoint directors and auditors and must satisfy themselves that the structure in place to govern the company is adequate, (Financial Reporting Council, 2014). It is society that helps hide it and condition us to be good. The novel, "The Lord of the Flies", by author William Golding is an eye opening, allegory story about a group of British school boys who survive a plane crash(during World War 2) and end up on a deserted/isolated island, with no adults. They are forced to hunt, survive, and create shelter to survive, without regular civilization/try to recreate the civilization they used to have. Simon says this during a meeting, which the boys were discussing the beast. He proposed that perhaps the beast was the boys themselves. In this essay I will discuss how the people in Lester 's life act when no one is looking or their private selves and the way they act when they know that someone is watching them; their public selves (Adler, Proctor, 51–52), as well as how they manage their identities or better yet how they influence how others see them (Adler, Proctor, 51). Carolyn's public self is elegant, charming, and always smiling. Carolyn presents herself as such towards her neighbors, acquaintances, and potential clients, she does this in order to be excepted, because she cares what people think about her and how they see her. One example of Carolyn managing the identity she has created is when she is in the front yard of her house working in the garden and Lester thinks to himself "That 's my wife Carolyn. See the way the handle on those pruning shears matches her gardening clogs? That 's not an accident." The way Carolyn coordinates her clothing from her shoes to the tools she is using that day shows her obsession with looking good in the eyes of others thus she manages her identity through her appearance (Adler, Proctor, 55). Konnor shows maturation and according to Berger, maturation of the prefrontal cortex can be identified through observing children play certain games such as Simon Says, and "the color game," which was found that children were able to sort the cards out by their color. (234) Konnor shows maturation because he was able to unstack the uncoordinated colored blocks to color coordinate them, unlike a few children surrounding him who profusely stacked the blocks, regardless of the color order. At 3 years and 8 months old, Konnor is within the norm for this development since it appears at 3 years old (Berger, 234). With the branch still gripped firmly in his hand, Konnor begins to lift his body to wrap his arms and legs around the tree. Hugging the tree with his body, Konnor begins to ease his way up the tree by pushing his legs up first to scoot the lower half of his body up, and then lifting his arms up further to scoot up his upper body as well. Konnor shows gross motor skills and according to Berger, gross motor skills are defined as, "physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. The United States Federal Government How about maybe? In this paper I will outline the problems of the pedagogical approach the United States federal government took in light of the War on Drugs on the wide public education on drug use. I will examine two different articles from Think Progress and The Guardian that argue against the 1986 initiative by Nancy Reagan that became one of the most subtle but destructive aspects about the War on Drugs. She started an country wide program aimed at educating the youth. More specifically on being able to prevent drug use in teenagers. However, there were unintended consequences that I believe negatively affected the minds bodies and futures of those same teenagers they were trying to help out. Also, the seemingly noble intent to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, shortly after its initiation, police officers started being brought into public schools. The usual events were comprised of drug prevention talks where the police demonize drug dealers and shared their experiences dealing with drugged out people. While these scare tactics give an appearance of deterrence there was a study cited in the article by Scientific American, conducted that teenagers were just as likely to use drugs after through these abstinence based programs than if they didn't get any information at all. The article also found a fatal flaw in the DARE campaigns pedagogy, it was the lack of student in student role play on how to handle social situations with drugs. Bringing in the longitudinal study from a reputable source reinforces the argument against the DARE programs pedagogy. Not only did they show that has the Nancy Reagan philosophy been ineffective, the article subtly made a point to highlight how wasteful it must have been to use our tax money to fund ineffective police educational programs. While no statistics were shown, the fact that these programs were found to be highly ineffective gives this argument quite a bit of merit. Parallel to this, in 1986 congress passed the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act which mandated a zero tolerance policy to drugs in schools. This was the first time police officers began arresting students straight out of schools. This fact also shines light on the how destructive a simple minded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. Lord Of The Flies Innocence Analysis In Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows the evolution of savagery on the island by starting the book with the boys being innocent school boys, but in the middle the boys start to become violent and show signs of savagery. Towards the end, savagery takes over the whole island. Golding has the boys represent innocence at the beginning of the book, savagery and innocence in the middle, and savagery at the end to show the important theme of savagery. First, the evolution of savagery starts when the boys land on the island and are just innocent school boys. One of the first signs of innocence shown is when Jack, Ralph, and Simon corner a pig to kill, but Jack can't get himself to kill it. Golding describe it by writing, "Then the piglet tore loose from the creepers and scurried into the undergrowth. They were left looking at each other and the place of terror. Jack's face was white under the freckles"(31). Jack does not kill the pig because he cannot take a life. This demonstrates innocence because he still values life and knows right from wrong. Jack also is embarrassed that he did not kill the pig and uses the excuse that he was thinking of a spot to stab it. This shows he is still immature and cares about what the other boys think about him. At the beginning of the book, the boys also decide they need to have rules. Jack says, "We've got to have rules and obey them. After all we're not savages"(42). The boys are still used to civilization and are trying to use it on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Summary Of Golding In Lord Of The Flies During this portion of the chapter, Jack, tired from running, stops walking through the forest to catch his breath. The character continued on. His hair had grown longer and was lighter from the sun's rays. His back was sunburn and was starting to peel. Only wearing his distressed shorts and carrying a sharp stick in his right hand, Jack crouches to within inches of the ground as the narrator notes, "He closed his eyes, raised his head, and breathed in gently with flared nostrils, assessing the current of warm air for information. The forest and he were very still"(Golding 48). Jack continues walking forward. The forest is quiet, more overwhelming than the heat. As the sound from a bird echoes through the trees, Jack crouches for cover and the narrator notes, "And for a minute became less a hunter than a furtive thing, ape–like among the tangle of trees"(Golding 49). On his knees, Jack angrily scrutinizes the ground, looking for a clue. Moving like a shadow under the trees, he stoops down again and examined the ground. With his spear raised Jack walks deeper into the forest. Finally, he comes across a pig–run. After hearing movement Jack steadily rises to his feet. Moving his right arm back, he threw the spear with all his might. The sound of hoofs stammering comes from the pig–run, which meant for Jack, meat. Running from under the bushes, Jack picks up his spear ready to kill, but the narrator notes that "the pattering of pigs trotters died away in the distance" (Golding ... • 63. Reflection Of Lord Of The Flies The Lord of the Flies is one of the most well–known books. This book evokes fear, discomfort, and even confusion. This rapid pulse classic isn't about boys shipwrecked on an island but a secret experiment created by the British government gone tragically wrong. There are so many facts that support this idea. This book relates to Lost, Divergent, The Hunger Games, and even The Maze Runner. All of these children wake up to find themselves on an island. They have no idea how they go there and the plane to completely gone. It is almost as if someone just dropped the boys off and left. Miraculously as well these children were on an uninhabited island that had livable conditions for them. This was the perfect set up for a simulation! Let go straight into the first chapter of the book. It starts off the book with Ralph and a boy named Piggy. They find themselves on this island that is completely deserted. (Page 1–2) "Where's the man with the megaphone?" The fair boy shook his head. "This is an island. At least I think it's an island. That's a reef out in the sea. Perhaps there aren't any grownups anywhere." The fat boy looked startled." What this is showing is that Ralph and Piggy are discovering they are on an island all alone. They currently do not know how they got there or if there are other people. Isn't it strange though when Ralph and Piggy wake up they are in the forest and not on the beach? If their plane had crashed the plane would most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding Essay Lord of the Flies "is both a story with a message" and "a great tale of adventure". The novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding is an allegorical novel representing what the world was like during World War II. The novel is about a group of boys who survive a plane crash during the Blitzkrieg. The boys are stranded on an island and must find a way to survive until they are rescued. Most of the characters do not even know each other before the crash happens. As the novel progresses, the characters begin to show their different personalities. Ralph, Simon, and Jack have individual traits and personal qualities that are represented in Lord of the Flies. For instance, Ralph is a character who symbolizes civilization and order through his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simon helps the kids get fruit from the tree. This shows that Simon is helpful to those who need him. Simon is also insightful throughout the story. An example of Simon's insight is when the group of boys talk about the beast. Simon says that maybe it is only themselves who are the beasts. This example shows that Simon sees what many of the boys do not. Simon later has a seizure and meets the Lord of the Flies. This seizure shows that Simon was talking to himself and seeing even more what they have become. Jack is a character that represents savagery and manipulation. An example of Jack's savage behavior when Jack and his tribe kill the sow. Worst of all, Jack's tribe also mutilate the sow by shoving the spear right up the sow's rear end. Then Jack orders Roger to put the sow's head on a double sided spear as an offering to the beast. The placing of the sow's head, as well as the hunting help ensure Jack's dominance over the boys. Jack has dominance because he uses manipulation to make his group follow him through fear of the beast. The placing of the sows head represents this, because if Jack's tribe did not believe in the beast they would not have placed it. One representation of Jack's savage behavior effecting others is when Jack's tribe goes into a trance and suddenly want to "kill the beast", "cut his throat", and "spill his blood"(152). This shows that Jack has become so savage, he cannot recognize between what is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Lesson Reflection 1. Briefly describe what you planned to do and explain if you changed anything along the way (flexibility is key!!) What I planned to do was to explain to the students that points, lines, line segments, rays, and planes are everywhere. They are the building blocks of geometry. Then, I went through my PowerPoint and explained what each of the figures are. I explained that a point has no dimensions and is a location on a plane. It is also represented by a dot. I went on and did the same thing for a line, parallel lines, perpendicular lines, intersecting lines, line segment, ray, and a plane. Throughout the lesson I went through the worksheet and showed the students how to draw, name/read, and write each one of them. After that we did the line song. I should them what each one was using my arms. Finally, I play the game Simon says. During the game, I kept saying Simon says, but then I did not to see if the students were listening. A couple of students were not, but then got the hang of it then. I changed my lesson a little bit by going out of order. I did the PowerPoint first, then did the worksheet, played a game, and then the coffee stirrers. 2. How do you feel the students responded to your activity(ies)? Tell me about some of their responses. I feel that the students responded pretty good to the activities. With the worksheet, I hand some of the students tell me what each one was or how it is to be read, written, drawn. Some of the students said that a line segment is a ... • 69. Simon As A Christ Figure In Lord Of The Flies By William... John T. Martin English IV Honors Mrs. Mullally 10/18/17 It has been suggested that Simon is a Christ–figure in the novel. Describe some of his qualities and actions which justify such a comparison. In the novel, The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, there are a series of characters that represent different themes, figures, and ideas. Some characters, for example, show leadership, wisdom, a desire for power, gullibility, and Christ–likeness. These roles are equally as important for the setup and flow of the novel, but one represents love, sacrifice, and a Christ–like idealism more than the others. Although his age is never identified, Simon is depicted as one of the more mature boys and seems to be the only one who remains in a constant and civilized mindset throughout his time on the island. Simon has an innate goodness and represents a constant moral behavior. His ability to be a light to the other boys along with his ability to recognize that "the beast" and evil dwells more so in them than on the actual island, is very important in the novels storyline. The first major event that really stands out as a representation to Simon's Christ–likeness is when Jack brings back the first pig for the boys to eat. Jack is the hunter in the group and the most evil character of the boys. Even though he provides food, his desire for power and the re–occurring events of his evil actions show his downfall from civilization. Upon Jack's return with meat, he gives all the ... • 71. Lord Of The Flies Critical Analysis Lord of the Flies is a twisted tale that blends the savagery of the human race with the civilization of everyday life. Golding shows that authority can corrupt the mind of those who try to abuse their power in the wrong way. Golding wrote in a manner that was realistic in order to show the imperfections of human nature. There was more significance behind the simple elegance of his words than just a fictional story. The many layers prevalent throughout the novel must be peeled back one by one in order to fully understand the concept effusively. Golding uses a style of description and vivid imagery to allow the reader to access their imagination in order to visualize the scenery of the book. The author describes the creepers and pink ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many lines come to mind when recalling the vivid scenes from Lord of the Flies, but some touched me more than others. Ralph says, "Sucks to your ass–mar" (Golding, 10). This quote, pulled from the beginning of the book, sets the tone for the rest of the book. The reader can immediately tell that slang and colloquial words will be expressed throughout the text. Next, the words that Piggy exclaims while trying to get the islanders to refocus on what matters after so much talk of the beast, "What are we? Humans? Or Animals? Or Savages?" (Golding, 123) Piggy starts to realize that the boys are headed down the wrong path if they ever want to get rescued from their eminent death. He speaks furiously and ponders what the adults would think if they could see the reckless behavior being shown on the island. In another quote, Golding describes the relationship between Ralph and Jack in such simple but elegant words, "They looked at each other, baffled, in love and hate" (Golding, 70). Ralph and Jack butt heads throughout the entirety of the work. Each character had a different leadership style, and each wanted what the other despised. Ralph thought that a fire was the most important job on this island, whereas Jack was a killer at heart and spent majority of his time hunting for wild pigs. The unforgettable chant that was shouted will never stray from my mind when I recall this book, "Kill the beast! Cut his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Essay on Jack and Simon in Chapter Three of the Lord of... Jack and Simon in Chapter Three of the Lord of the Flies In the Lord of the Flies, William Golding makes many contrasts between his symbolic characters. For example in chapter three, 'Huts on the beach', many contrasts and similarities are made between the two characters Jack and Simon. These descriptions give an idea to their personality and feelings. The description of Simon in the jungle, and Jack in the woods highlights many of their differences. Jack is alone and descriptions like, 'with flared nostrils', and 'ape– like' suggest he is behaving like an animal. Jack's appearance is also starting to resemble animals, as his hair has grown, 'longer', and his skin darker with, 'a mess of dark freckles'. Simon's appearance is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This clearly shows an unusual ability Simon has, and resembles a Jesus figure, the descriptions, in contrast to the wood Jack is in, seem surreal, and tranquil. Jack in the wood is set with, 'a sharpened stick about five feet long', reflecting a threatening, tense atmosphere. Simon is with the littuns and he is shown to be generous and caring, as he, 'found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled of the choicest'. This is an example of the effort Simon took to be caring for others. This is also shown by Simon's willingness to help with the building of the huts, when all the others ran away, leaving the responsibility to Ralph. This shows he is considerate to others. Jack, however is extremely unwilling to help with the huts, and is annoyed when Ralph gives Simon gratitude for helping, as when Simon is not by the huts Jack tries to make up excuses like, 'got fed up', and, 'he's buzzed off', trying to make Simon in the wrong. Jack is obsessed about catching a pig and seems to want to catch one for the enjoyment, rather than the food it would give. Jacks obsession is shown after Ralph has been expressing how upset he is that no one helps with the hut, when he bluntly comments, 'we need meat' and when Ralph mentions rescue, Jack says, 'I'd like to catch a pig first' and is not prepared to keep the fire going for rescue purposes. These are examples of how desperate Jack wants to catch the pig, and how he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Why Do People Say A Picture In Jane Eyre People say a picture is worth a thousand words. In the novel "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Brontë, that's exactly what they mean to Jane. Jane Eyre is an orphan who grows up experiencing solitude and cruelty while living with her abusive aunt and cousins. Jane continues to endure these things while being a student at Lowood, but when she gets to be a governess at Thornfield, she soon finds happiness while falling in love with her employer, Edward Rochester. Brontë's use of paintings and pictures in the novel help us get a better understanding of what Jane's feelings and thoughts are by getting an unfiltered view of her past and herself. In the earlier chapters of the novel, Jane is ten years old and she is admiring some pictures. The first picture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is told that Blanche is a beautiful woman, and that Rochester has a liking for her. Jane then draws a portrait of herself and of Blanche. "An hour or two sufficed to sketch my own portrait in crayons; and in less than a fortnight I had completed an ivory miniature of an imaginary Blanche Ingram." (Brontë 187) Jane knows that she isn't attractive, but she was just starting to realize that she might have a chance with Rochester and when she finds out that Rochester likes Blanche, Jane's confidence goes away. In a fit of jealousy, Jane draws the two portraits but makes hers plain, and ugly, and in crayon. When drawing Blanche's portrait, Jane uses beautiful soft colors and her best materials, and she tries to make it as beautiful as possible. She chooses to draw her picture in crayon, because crayons make hard, streaky lines, and cannot be blended well together. This helps Jane focus the attention to the plainness in her face, as well as helping her seem ugly. She uses her 'freshest, finest, clearest tints' and her 'most delicate camel–hair pencils' to paint Blanche because she wants to make her appear delicate and gorgeous. She uses this range of materials and drawing styles to contrast her simplicity with Blanche's alluring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jace is surprised because he saw that Clary could see him kill the blue haired boy. This is shown in the beginning of the song when it says today I felt a switch in my veins meaning that today something irregular happened. Then it says I used to be a shadow implying that someone can now see him which is Clary who can not only see him but later in the movie can see him figuratively as in she can tell what he is feeling and she knows him better than anyone because they are brother and sister. Then the song says now a shadow screaming my name. This describes the moment when Clary sees the blue haired boy die and she screams. Next the song says in the daylight I could swear we were the same. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I picked this song as music that would play in the movie when Jace and Clary go into the flower garden that lights up at night. This song would be played with no speaking the entire seen until the end. There are many ways this song could be related to the book but i chose just a couple for shortened writing purposes. There is a lyric that says that I want to shelter you but with the beast inside there's nowhere we can hide. This is implying that Jace is wanting to protect Clary not as a sister yet but as a loved one and then as seen later in the series he is a monster truly because he is part demon. Another lyric says this is my kingdom come. This is symbolic because the mansion they live in looks like a huge castle and because Jace says that this in his favorite place in the mansion therefore this is his kingdom. The next lyric says when you feel my heat look into my eyes it's where my demons hide.
