friends and family call him Mack. He is a father of five children and husband to Nan. He has built a wall around him ever since Missy was killed
and has found himself in the "Great Sadness". He has backslid in his faith and his love for Nan isn't as strong as it used to be before the "Great
Sadness". Nan is the glue that holds the family together she is very faithful to the Lord which she calls "Papa". She is very strong and helps the family

On February 17, 2017, my partner and I visited the Eagle's Nest pantry located near the entrance of Seymour's. I have been at the University of
Southern Mississippi for four years now and had no clue that this campus afford food assistance to those in need. My belief for not knowing the
pantry existed is because of its location. When I approached the door, I felt like I was about to enter a student restricted storage room; there were no

without hesitations skipped over the vegetables sections. That made me believe he was a repeating guest. When we went to complete his interview I

Science Reflection
St Marys holds an Inspire Science Program advocating the learning of science for primary children (year 6 ). It was a day spent in a local primary
school teaching them about DNA and Forensic science.
The Inspire Science program involved having weekly basis school meetings in the science labs. I attended each week working on preparing for
science–related activities such as making DNA, chromosomes from strawberries and creating a DNA model. The class was split into groups of 8
each group assigned to a classroom for the day. Furthermore splitting into pairs to work with a group of 6 children. I lead my group teaching them
interesting facts about science and how science is involved in everyday life. I monitored my group as we worked on a forensic worksheet, DNA
booklet and DNA/ dry ice experiments. This activity increased my confidence in teaching others and being able to involve myself in a community
activity.
I participate in school clubs such as Amnesty and Girl's Club, which are social justice clubs in my school. 'Girl's Club' a primarily female based club
which focuses on the social issues relating to women and discussing gender inequality. As annual activities, we participate in school Ribbon days and

Introduction Throughout the semester, I have been able to volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Services Team. This has been one of the
most beneficial volunteer opportunities that I have ever accomplished. As an American Red Cross of Georgia Major Gift Officer, this volunteer
experience allowed me to gain knowledge in a department that serves as the backbone of the American Red Cross. As a nonprofit fundraiser, it is
difficult to truly see the mission that your team raises money for every single day. Fundraisers at the American Red Cross are trained as "sales
people," and before this volunteer experience I had never even been on a Red Cross disaster response call. Throughout the duration of the semester, I

The evolution of technology has become indescribable. Technology is prevalent in our society, as well as its portrayal in the media, a seemingly
essential aspect of our everyday lives. Although many idolize how technology has improved our lives, many fail to recognize technology's faults. By
using three persuasive literary devices (pathos, logos, and ethos), Neil Postman expresses his concern for technological advancement and possible
failure in the book Amusing Ourselves to Death. Logos appeals to logic; when using a persuasive device such as logos, you are using logical
reasoning to appeal to the reader. When using logos, you must include facts, statistics, and citing credible sources. By using ethos, the author
conveys his ideas while being well aware of what he is talking about by utilizing credible sources. Pathos, however, conveys the author's ideas by
appealing to the reader's emotions. Postman does an outstanding job of orchestrating a piece using the most popular persuasive elements. Postman
was able to incorporate all three of these devices into his book, but the most prominent one in my opinion, and that helps to best convey Postman's
point, is logos; statistics and facts are two things you very rarely can fight against. Over and over Postman uses facts on how the media is basically

Francisco Franco. On the 18th of July 1936 Generals of the Spanish Army led a coup against the democratically elected
Popular Front government of Spain. Within days, the country was plunged into one of the bloodiest wars the world had ever seen, with the Republicans
battling the insurgent Nationalists for control of the country. The Nationalists were fascist in principle, and therefore received massive amounts of aid
from Hitler and
Mussolini as a result of their shared ideology. The rest of the world turned their back on Spain and signed the nonintervention act, which constituted a
series of agreements limiting foreign involvement in the Spanish Civil War. The Republicans were communist and received a limited amount of aid
from the Soviet
Union. However, their main source of aid did not originate from a single power, but from a group of some forty thousand volunteers from around the

In July and August of 2012, I volunteered with the Nepal Volunteers Council1 for a month in Kathmandu, Nepal, and I found that despite the NVC
hired many international volunteers who contribute a considerable amount of money to the organization, it did not disclose to any volunteer its source
of funding or where and how much was the money spent. Later on, I was informed that there was actually a board which provides the major funding
for the NVC, implying that the organization was not as responsible for the international volunteers as I expected. However, international volunteers are
one of the most important stake holders in the perspective of this organization and a transparent environment is important for the sustainability of the
NVC in terms of the recruitment of volunteers.
The Issue
Nepal Volunteers Council (NVC) is anon–profit organization affiliated to the Social Welfare Council and it offersvolunteer, internship programs. The
objective of the NVC is to continue the process of sustainable development and uplifting the life standard of the poor and the marginalized community
through national and international volunteer enlistment.
To volunteer with NVC, each volunteer needs to pay a not refundable $100 application fee at the beginning of the applying process, and the program

Technology has awarded consumers the opportunity to purchase items from any location, allows for the exchange of information through individuals,
and led to productivity and accuracy in the agricultural field. However, the use of technology has been misunderstood in its relationship with education.
Opponents of technology in terms education can state that it is the primary cause that literacy rates have decreased in recent years, since technology can
distract from literacy development or academic engagement. The question arises is technology detrimental to literacy development and engagement or
is it beneficial. Should technology and the digital age be reevaluated in its effectiveness in literacy development and academic engagement? Absolutely,
technology should be reevaluated in effectiveness in literacy development due to the fact it provides more opportunities then barriers. When evaluating
ideas, we should look at the pros and the cons; and if the pros outweighs the cons the ideas should be accepted as the influential. Technology has made
literacy development more adaptable, led to the development of new literacy skills such as critical thinking and research skills, while providing
personal instruction. A benefit of technology in literacy development is that it can reach students with learning disabilities or challenges than
traditional texts. Students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, or ADHD are not able to sit down over a long period of time and read a
traditional text due to challenges imposed. To properly gain an understanding of a text time must be spent with the existing knowledge of some words.

On August 29, 2005, just after 9:00 am, Hurricane Katrina made landfall just east of New Orleans, Louisiana (Drye, 2010). Winds near the downtown
area were upwards of 125 mph, causing intense wind gusts and 40–foot high tidal surges (Drye, 2010). At 11:00 am, a major levee in the city failed,
causing walls of water to come pouring into New Orleans proper (Drye, 2010). Throughout the day, other levies failed leading to a vast citywide flood

In order to respond to these devastating events and provide aid to those left in the aftermath, humanitarian relief organizations have to quickly prepare
and implement large–scale relief activities, with only a short period of time to do so (Lassiter et al., 2015).
To do this efficiently, relief organizations look to the volunteer base. However, because of the limited resources available after natural disasters and the
unstable, often dangerous conditions in affected areas, volunteer management is a difficult problem (Lassiter et al., 2015). Moreover, often times due
to the large–scale nature of these disasters, relief organizations need to train additional, otherwise unqualified volunteers in order to utilize them in the
various tasks of their relief effort, further complicating an already complex relief coordination system (Lassiter et al., 2015).
This essay first describes the existing framework present in the United States to coordinate volunteers to assist in the aftermath of a natural disaster and
the role nongovernmental organizations have in its implementation, then analyzes the key factors and challenges that affect volunteer management
during such extraordinary times, before finally presenting additional strategies for managing the issues described throughout the analysis.
