He was born on April 27, 1822, in Point Pleasant, Ohio. His ancestors were of English and Scottish
heritage. He was not given a name for a month after his birth because his mother considered several
names to call him. Later he was named after his maternal grandfather, but the initials of his name
embarrassed him. When he entered West Point his name was mistakenly enrolled. He did not change
his name since he liked the initials. He was called "Sam, Uncle Sam" by his friends. At an early age,

Soon he was doing work for the Communists and was quickly rising in the ranks. He spent lots of
his time working with the Communists glad that they accepted him. His writing took a new turn and
he grew as a writer. Soon he was publishing plays and other works publicizing Communism. After
years of being with the communist party, he was disbanded as an outcast. He was angry with the
Communists and knew he would never right for them again. He was still going to write and the book
ends with him trying to write a new story.

lyrics and sounds all the artist were able to express what one felt for this tragic event. Released in
January 1966 Loretta Lynn speaks about a husband sent off to war, and the feelings of grief when
the husband is killed. She was very indecisive of speaking on the topic, but influenced by her
husband she was able to share this beautiful country song. Listening to the song various times I have
been able to understand part of the grief that wife's, mothers and family members felt when being
told there love one had passed away. When reading the lyrics of Dear Uncle Sam, Loretta begins by
telling us she is writing to Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam is a national personification of the American
government & the United States in general. It is the symbol that America uses to get men to enlist.
When she says she is writing to him we can feel how desperate she must have been if she is writing
to a fictional person. Adding the music, we hear how the soft guitar and her raspy voice ties it
together, especially when she goes on to saying "Through tears with a trembling hand". It is as if her
voice is cracking, which brings out feelings of pain and unsettledness. Also we can infer that Loretta

government as harsh and cruel. Brother Ali writes lyrics in a very personal and inspiring way. Ali
wrote this song in anger and in protest of the United States due to its controversial history and he
writes with anger and passion. Ali calls out the United States Government and he wants change. Ali
uses phrases to show Americas flaws and controversial history. He is disappointed in the way that
America has become what it is today. Brother Ali shows his disappointment of America's
controversial past by using vigorous language and his concern for what America has become. In the
opening chorus, Ali starts out by saying "welcome to the United Snakes, Land of the thief home of
the slave imperial guard where the dollar is sacred and proud" (Brother Ali [Chorus]). Instead of
saying United States, he says United Snakes to describe how shady America is. He uses the animal
snakes because they slither around and are shady. Ali uses play on words to emphasize his anger
toward America. There are several shady activities that go on behind the scenes with the American
Government. Instead of using the phrase, "Land of the free, home of the brave," Ali says "land of the
thief, home of the slave." The foundation of America was made by killing Native Americans. Ali is

of architecture. I see a home my family spent more than 60 years in. It became my sanctuary. My
father's childhood home in San Luis Potosi, Mexico helped me embrace my Mexican culture
because it was where I first tried authentic Mexican food, met my ethnic family, and saw so much
change in my family's life.
First, I remember the day I tried my aunt's Mexican style rice, and I instantly fell in love. I had never

Worst Day Of My Life
"Life can give you a surprise even though you don't want it" was a quote that reminded me of my
petty little self on my 10th birthday. We were visiting the striking city of Miami, Florida.

The story Araby takes place in the winter, the end of North Richmond St. The main character in the
narrator, a boy who is infatuated with his friend's sister. He has created a routine that will allow him
to see her and follow her to school everyday. Everything would be amazing if he had the courage to
talk to her, but he never has. One day however, the girl takes interest in him, asking if he will attend
Araby, in the bazaar. The boy responds he will. In fact, he will purchase something for her due to the
circumstance that she will not be able to attend. As days passed the boy can't wait till the day arrives
and to attend the bazaar, which turns out a problem because the idea intervenes with his school

Ever since I was small I had been close to my Grandma. Although she lived far away in
Mexico, we always went to go visit her during the summer. She was always sick and had a horrible
cough. She kept going to many doctors and kept talking the medicine the gaved her. We thought it
was just a cold and it was going to go away with time but it didn't. It was during our next summer
visit that we noticed that her cough hadn't gone away that we decided to take her to a specialized
doctor in the City of Mexico. What we were told after a the check up was shocking.

There are many pieces in modern design that hold my interest. One of the most interesting pieces of
art in modern design is James Montgomery Flagg's I Want You for U.S. Army poster (James
Montgomery Flagg. I Want You for the U.S. Army, Lithograph, 1917. Library of Congress Prints
and Photographs Division Washington, D.C.). While Flagg's piece aims to encourage people to take
some action according to the current war, it is also very easily understood by the text that is

Although Flagg's poster shows his intent through the text, Klinger's poster is much less
straightforward and could be hard to understand if the viewer was not from the same country or
culture as Klinger. Unlike Flagg's traditional color scheme in his poster, Klinger uses
complementary colors to enhance the contrast between the red figure eight and the green snakelike
figure in the center of the poster. Klinger's poster also does not rely on its colors to represent its
purpose. Instead of relying on the color scheme, Klinger's poster relies on its figure such as the
snake and the number to be the main focus of his piece. The arrows going through the snake give the
idea that revenge or anger is toward someone. The top part of the 8 wrapped around the head of the
snake also gives the idea of someone being trapped or a very concerning situation. Unlike Flagg's
poster, Klinger's poster seems to take up much more space but does not have a lot of detail or other
figures placed in the background. Klinger's poster is much more simplistic in the tone of the piece.
There is very little, if any, value changes that show the rigidness and seriousness compared to
Flagg's piece. Although Klinger relies on its two dimensional form, the items such as the arrows and
the figure eight rely on each other in combination as a whole to depict the message. Much like

with the peaceful sound of the waves crashing up against the side of the boat.Along with simple

most important memories of my childhood. My family and I were always at the beach because my
uncle at one point in time ran his own fishing charter business. He would always take my siblings

I have a strange family. We aren't very open with each other, never learned to express our feelings,
but we were fine with that. All of us, including myself, thought there was no need to pour our
feelings out to each other. It was a sign of weakness, especially in a family where everyone's sons
and daughters had to be picture perfect. I was fine with that. Of course, sometimes it hurt, knowing
that my mental shortcomings had to be kept to myself for the sake of the family image. But overtime
I got used to it. The silence we kept ourselves in eventually became calming to me. Until that very
silence killed someone.
I remember the day it happened. It was raining and my house was oddly quiet. There was no sound
coming from downstairs and I assumed everyone was still asleep. But, it didn't make sense
considering it was a Monday morning and it was 8:00 am. My parents would have been running
around the house leaving for work by now. Maybe they haven't woken up yet, I thought. I got out of
bed, put on the black slippers I always leave on the floor, and walked towards my parent's room.
They weren't there. The bedsheets were strewn across the floor and my little brother was still in his
crib. My parents would normally put him on the bed, then wake me up so I could go sleep next to
him. I knew something was out of place. Our morning routine for the summer never once changed.
I ran out of my parent's room and knocked on my brother's door. Maybe he knew what was
happening. After a few seconds of knocking, I swung the door open and looked inside. His bed was
the same as my parents, the sheets strewn across the floor as if he got out in a hurry. I began to panic

Being a nurse takes its toll on emotions and really puts through tough times with dying patients or

However, Flagg creates Uncle Sam in a unique way to not only address the clustered population of

unique, one might look at the word "YOU" and straight towards the index finger pointed at the

Analysis Of The Poem ' Adrienne Rich
Women had little resources to escape an unhappy or abusive marriage during the nineteen fifties.
Most just learned to deal with it behind their closed doors in silence. During this time the divorce
rate, according to an article published in 1973 by the "National Center for Health Statistics", was at
twenty–five percent. (Plateris). Most women did not have the luxury of getting one due to the fact
that most husbands of that time had control of the household finances, not to mention that it was a
costly venture. Some marriages struggled with spousal abuse as well; be it emotional or physical yet
domestic violence at this time was something that people really did not talk about, nor were there
the resources for victims that we have today. In this haunting poem, Adrienne Rich uses symbolism
to paint a picture of a scared, and lonely woman as she creates this tapestry of Tigers being hunted,
in a colorful landscape, while she is pondering her relationship between her and her spouse.

A Year I Had An Exciting Summer
This year I had an exciting summer. I did many fun and exciting things, but my best memory was
when I went to vacation to New Mexico. I went for about 2 weeks and had a great time. We've gone
2 years in a row now and hope to go back next year. My family and I went to go visit my dad's side
of the family. The main reason we went was for my cousin Jasmine's Quinceanera (which is the
celebration of a teenage girl turning 15 in the Hispanic culture).

it took about 18 hours to get there. We left on a Thursday at around 7 pm and got there Friday at
around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. The road trip was fun, because we jammed out to our favorite hits,
we stopped to eat and get snack many times, and we just talked and laughed and had a great time
and made great memories it was a fun road trip.
