Freshman In High School
9th grade is the most important year of highschool
I believe freshman year of high school is essential in deciding whether a student drops out or stays
on school. I believe that you should try your hardest freshman year so that you can stay motivated
and get good start in high school. Freshmans should try their hardest in freshman year or it can
damage their self esteem, in article: ¨Ninth Grade: The Most Important Year in High School"
paragraph 4. Usually if a student gets held back a grade than their peers (from both grades) will
judge them, and the judgment will not motivate them, it would lower their self esteem and it can
possibly turn into a vicious cycle and the student could possibly stay back again. Freshmans usually
have poor

Transitioning From Junior High To High School
Transitioning from the junior high to the high school will always be a defining moment of growth
and learning for me. I remember middle school as if it were yesterday; I formed a tight relationship
with the people in my class and we shared jokes, and supported each other no matter what.
However, I knew 8th–grade year couldn't last forever and that, eventually my then best friend would
be going to a different school and everyone who I saw and laughed with every day would be split
apart. Some people may argue that I could still keep in touch with most of my close friends but I
knew it would never be the same without us all together. Although it seems childish to me now, I
remember the sickening feeling of everyone I love leaving me, and the dread

High School Problems
High school students face many problems with the education system. They have become expected to
be ready for anything life throws at them, when in reality they are struggling with the obstacles
thrown at them on a daily basis. School is the one major problem adolescents have had to deal with
growing up. Undergraduates hear that "high school is the best four years of their lives" but how can
it be the best when there is something more important or nobody truly cares about their education?
Sports are such a huge factor in high school, being on varsity, having all the attention, winning
against your rival school, and winning the championship game, that is what the full high school
experience is, right? "The team sports of high school dominate more than student culture. A
community's loyalty to the high school system is often based on the extent to which varsity teams
succeed" (source B). In high school, everyone worries about fitting in with what everyone else
thinks and not paying attention to what really matters. On Friday's instead of staying home and
studying for the test there is on Monday they would rather go to the football game and push off
studying for the weekend, but then something comes up during those two days, causing them not to
studying at all, doing lousy on the test, causing their grades to suffer, but then complain when they
have a terrible grade in the class. Schools publicize sports more than anything academic, there are
posters around campus,

High Teacher Turnover
Chapter three discusses the quantitative research used to uncover whether associations exist between
specific working conditions present in high minority and high poverty schools and low teacher
turnover in those schools. The chapter begins with a review of the problem statement and research
questions followed by a description of the research design. The process for collecting and analyzing
data concludes this chapter. Without data revealing what works to keep teachers in hard–to–staff
schools in Indiana, solutions to the perceived teacher shortage problem are a shot in the dark. Data
from this research will provide educators and policy makers with numeric descriptions
demonstrating which working conditions are present in high minority and high poverty schools that
experience less teacher turnover than schools with low minority and low poverty schools. Analysis
of these data can help educators and policy makers make strategic decisions about how to craft
effective policy to keep more teachers in their current schools, thus slowing the revolving door that
leads to excess demand for teachers. The researcher is concerned with ... Show more content on

What are the differences between teachers' perceptions of working conditions in schools with low
and with high teacher turnover rates in high minority and high poverty schools? 2. What is the
relationship between teachers' perceptions of working conditions and teacher retention in high
minority and high poverty schools? The researcher hypothesizes that working conditions,
individually and in combinations, will influence teachers' plans to remain or exit a building and that
these perceptions are associated with teachers' ages and years of experience. The null hypotheses
states there is no difference between the working conditions in high minority and in high poverty
school districts with lower teacher turnover and the working conditions in high minority and in high
poverty school districts with higher teacher turnover. Research

Break Into High School
Kids usually get overwhelm with all the work that gets thrown at them in 9th grade. People told me
that high school is way harder and I have to work harder. I was so nervous on the second for
freshman, I am now the smallest kid in the school. I was afraid one wrong move my life would be
over. If I walked into the wrong room hundreds of eyes would be starring at me thinking I was an
idiot. That was mostly my biggest fear. I just told myself I beat a lot of other kids did it to. The
transition could be vey hard for some people, but it is fine. They are a few important key ideas that
students should know before going into high school. First off, join a activity. Join a club, a sport, or
band and choir. I recommend to join a club. It could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Friends change, classmates, and maybe whoever is reading this has change from last year. It could
be tough for a student to get through the school year because the one person they once relay on is
now struggling themselves. Coming into high school can be very stressful, they are again now at the
bottom of the latter, and last in the school. Other people can be a bad influence on other students
which could prevent them from doing homework or activities. This could cause kids to become inti–
social and have a change in mood. The best way to deal with this it to keep going, stay positive, and
just role with it. Have a shell and accept people no matter what. Lastly, grades can kill. I mean do
not let grades slip. Always do, and hand in assignments in the beginning of the semester or quarter.
Grades matter more in high than in middle school. Collages are going to look at high school grades.
I did not try in middle school at all knowing this, so most of my grades were C's. Now that I am in
high school I stay up till the middle of the night doing home work. Try to check the grade book on
Skyward once or twice a week, and ask the teacher nicely if an assignment is missing. Never let
grades slip; the punishment could be summer

High School Students On The SAT: High Stakes Analysis
James S. Murphy wrote about how the SAT is a high Stakes evaluation of enormous magnitude in
which colleges use to analyze the readiness and skills of high school students. Some students are not
financial stable to pay tutors or discover other resources that enable them to get adequate scores on
the various exams. These rigorous exams act as a subject course other than showing students
abilities through their academic achievements in high school, something where colleges rather judge
students on their SAT to determine if their good enough to attend college. The College Board are
now proposing a program named Khan Academy; which better equip students to be prepared and
comfortable taking exams under pressure, which allow the programs offer varies

High School And College
High school and college have the legacy to hold the greatest years of your life. All of these fantastic
memories can be forever engraved into your mind. High School takes place in the middle of a
person's teenage years, which is also a very confusing time for most teenagers. Although college can
be attended by a wide variety of ages, the average age that attends college is roughly eighteen to
twenty–five years old. Between these two ages a lot of growing up is required before you enter the
real world. This is why there will always be a large amount of reasons why college is different than
high school.
The social network that infests a high school is an intricate and complicated system of teenagers
disliking other teenagers since their days in middle school. Everyone knows everyone, and each
person is willing to go to the extreme to expose their enemies. Being in high school allows for a
person to make a large amount of friends, but college is where people make a smaller group of
friends, which are more close–knitted bonds. College is a more simplistic form of high school, but
still contains the everyday drama. The key differences are the fact that there are thousands of
students on the campus, and that throughout the year you might see a quarter of the total student
body. Because of this, friend groups are greatly smaller than that of high school, which provides less
drama. One big advantage that college has over high school is the implication of sororities and
fraternities.

High School Sports
Playing a sport or being part of a high school athletic team is something that is very common in
today's society. Whether male or female, there are many different sports to choose from. Baseball,
football, and soccer are three of the main sports that boys participate in. For girls, it may vary from
softball, soccer, tennis, and sometimes even cheerleading. Whatever a person's preference may be,
playing any sport can be very demanding. The number of high school students who play a sport is
one that increases every school year; the effects of playing a sport in high school are losing free
time, staying fit, and struggling to maintain high grades throughout the sporting season and school
year.
Just like any other daily activity, playing

The High Life
The High Life In high school peer pressure is stronger then ever. Students are critically judged by
their peers and are forced to either compromise one's own moral values to fit into the group or face
being ostracized and out casted. Students sometimes feel backed against a wall and following the
group is sometimes easier than going against the grain. It all started a few years ago on a blistering
summer day towards the end of the school year. Class was, like usual, long, boring and unbelievably
tiresome. All day long I had been thanking God, more than usual, that it was Friday; earlier that day
I ran it an old friend, Deiondre Howard, we made plans to hangout; he said he wanted to introduce
me to a few friends and chill with a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wade opens the door and instantly a blinding light and a strong thick pungent wave of haze floats
out the room. A smell of flowers and smoke hit my nose like a freight train. Now I know everyone is
familiar with this situation. In everyone's life they come to a crossroads where their common sense
and mind tells them to turn around and walk away but their curiosity draws them closer. Well this
was one of those situations. We enter the room and sit down on wades futon. Across from me on the
laz–y–boy is Christina, immediately that nervousness is replaced with stupidty and cockiness. So for
the next few hours I partake in the consumption of alcohol and marijuana, all in the pursuit of trying
to impress this girl across from me. For me this was a serious break of moral code. I had always
prided myself on my ability to be a leader and not a follower, to avoid un–wanted pressures from
peers. Looking back I see how this one incident lead to another and then another. Next thing I know,
im hanging out with a totally different group of friends. My afternoons started to change from going
home and doing homework to going over Wade's house, smoking pot, and doing half my home
work. I think teachers and parents need to really consider the effects peer pressure has on their
children. The simple feeling of not wanting to disappoint someone is enough to lead them to drastic
behavior changes in order to do what they think might impress a group of friends or

Transition To High School
The transition from junior high to high school isn't all that it sought out to be, but it is definitely
different. In junior high we heard numerous rumors about how difficult high school would be
compared to junior high. We heard how extreme the material would be, how much more homework
we would have, how the upper classmen pick on freshmen, and of course getting our first letter
grade dropped. High school is certainly everything that people claimed it would be, but it is
undeniably attainable.
Almost everyone has seen a movie where freshmen are picked on by upper classmen. Although this
might seem scary, it is typically false. Our seniors at Ironton high school are mostly supportive of
the freshmen throughout the hallways, as of what I see and hear. Since we are a very prideful school,
we come together and have pride for all of the student's academics, athleticism, and leadership. ...

This, in some cases, is generally true. It is not near as easy as the junior high level material, but it's
also far from impossible. There is a lot more homework, but what I have realized is that if we do our
own homework, the classes and test are moderately easy. Studying is unquestionably more
necessary than that of what it was in junior high, but isn't as bad of what I have heard.
Last but not least, we hear how we need to learn to accept getting our first B in high school. This
statement is accurate indeed. This year, I got my first B and I was extremely discouraged at first.
Then I realized that life doesn't revolve around getting one B. As long as we know that we tried our
hardest, everything will be okay. I have always believed in thinking positively, and understanding
that everything happens for a reason. In ten years, we won't be thinking about getting our first

Essay On High Grades In High School
As I made the walk into my first hour, geometry, my first day of high school; I thought to myself I
would never pass this class, I am a freshman in a sophomore class and I have not been taught any of
this before. Nervous and scared about the rest of the day and how hard my classes would be, I
looked forward to a year of low grades and failed assignments. However, this was not the case, high
school classes were much different then what I had thought. Many teachers were easy on students,
gave less homework than I had expected and were lenient on the homework assignments. Much
different than what I had expected, I have flown through high school with ease and superior grades.
On the other hand, as I begin to take college courses, I have learned that those grades in High
School were much easier to obtain and were of less value. High Schools have made it easier to get
higher grades, and that in turn, will affect my grades in college.
It can be seen strongly at my High School, Oologah High, that students have gotten lazier and
parents still expect teachers to hand out better grades. When enrolling and selecting classes; students
have the option to select easier, less demanding classes, yet are still rewarded with high grades.
Now, instead of taking classes that reward hard work and prepare students for the future, they are
able to pass easy classes and receive better scores. Those students who take more rigorous courses
are slated with more work, tougher assignments, and

Junior High Vs High School
We live in a society that puts high school up on a pedestal, and it is often referred to as the best four
years of our lives; however, high school can be some of the most stressful years of a student's life, as
well as the most difficult, especially if we are unprepared. The various differences between junior
high and high school are astounding. Transitioning from junior high to high school, requires students
to reach a completely different level of maturity and responsibility. In junior high, poor actions
didn't have severe consequences, whereas, in high school, consequences can be a detrimental as
being suspended from school. Also, middle school requires substantially less responsibility than
high school; in middle school, there are no repercussions for turning assignments in late. In
comparison to high school, all late assignments result in a specific percentage deduction from your
earned score. Another difference between junior high and high school is the amount of time spent on
and the difficulty level of homework. Junior high assignments were much more straightforward than
high school assignments. High school is much more difficult and demanding than junior high.
Overall, junior high does not adequately prepare students for high school.
As a child, my parents repeatedly told me that all actions have consequences; it was up to me
whether the consequences were satisfactory or unsatisfactory. At the junior high level, the
consequences students would suffer

students about my experience after high school and encourage those who want to go to college to

Essay on High Noon
For my at home movie I watched Hang em' High directed by Ted Post. It is considered a spaghetti
western that was made in America. In comparison to the film we watched in class, High Noon
directed by Fred Zinnemann. These two westerns had many similarities and differences. From
differences in how the movie was actually shot, to the similarity of how both of the main characters
are loners, these two movies connect all over on many different levels.
High Noon was the story of a very brave man, Will Kane played by Gary Cooper, which is giving up
his Sheriff position to become a homemaker with him wife. Just when they are leaving to start their

Cooper's life. Then the Marshall brought him to the judge to see if he is guilty. Eventually, it was
discovered that Cooper was innocent, and had bought the cattle from a criminal who killed the
owner then sold the cattle to him. Cooper was finally released, but he now wanted revenge on the
men who tried to lynch him. The judge tells Cooper to give their descriptions to one of his marshal's

my most important goal of becoming my dream career.
As I stated before that I want to be accepted to this High School because the quality of learning is

related clubs. I am sure that when I get accepted I know that I will be interested in joining one of
these clubs. That variety of courses for sure is going to bring people of different styles and bring
them together in one school. That will make it even better since I will meet new people of different
styles.
Moreover, the main goal I want to achieve is for me to learn a lot about my main interest or my
future career. My future career is to be a doctor or a surgeon. In both cases, I want to get the basics
down. Since this will be my major I want to take a lot of science courses. Also, science relates to a
lot of other subjects mainly math, and technology, which both are in the courses. By being accepted
into this school this brings me one step closer to accomplishing my dream goal.
To conclude with, I want to say that this school is highly rated. It is also one of the top high schools
in Jersey City. The quality of learning is awesome, there are many different courses, and it is
hopefully going to bring me even closer to the most important goal in life for me.Go figure it is the

High School Dress Codes In High Schools
The logic and mindset of how the high school was structured were absolutely ridiculous. Basically,
like Beacon, my high school was a school for kids with learning disabilities. It was also a K–12
school. However, they defined learning disability as the students being somewhat untrustworthy.
When there was a non–academic situation arising, they would only confront the main person
causing all of it and not ask witnesses. The majority of my high school teachers were some of the
most unpleasant people ever.
For starters, they would overly enforce small rules that weren't necessary. For example, they were a
huge pain about the dress code. When I first got there, the dress code was polo shirt only, and guys
had to have them tucked in at all times. Even when it was slightly untucked, they would give us a
hard time about it. When someone wasn't wearing a polo shirt and was wearing a t–shirt instead, no
matter what was on it, they would make them go to the bathroom and turn it inside out. Fortunately,
it didn't last too long because during my sophomore year, my best friend managed to rally almost the
entire high school (there were only about thirty to forty people) and we broke the entire dress code
for an entire week at the end of the year. Since then, they pretty much let us wear whatever we
wanted as long as it wasn't too revealing. There was also a point when they were giving out
detentions for carrying backpacks from class to class. I even still have the questions they made me

High School Cliques In High Schools
Any teen movie ever made has successfully pushed the social hierarchal agenda. Look at any John
Hughes movie from the 1980's and you'll see a familiar trend. The common stereotypical high
school cliques such as the popular crowd, the jocks, and the nerds flashed across the screen. Ever
since the inception of films geared towards teenagers, the idea of queen bees and academically inept
jocks was reinforced in a negative light. Creating anxieties for middle schoolers around the world.
Though these heavy stereotypes do plague many high schools, there are some schools that seem to
be exempt from the trend. Studies show the exemption could stem from the size of the school.
However, the amount of freedom the students have also made a difference when it comes to social
order. Daniel McFarland, a professor of education at Stanford Graduate School of Education,
conducted a study monitoring two separate high schools on what causes cliques, and why they
occur. McFarland states in his research "Larger schools that offer more choice and variety are most
likely to form hierarchies, cliques, and self–segregation, ... In smaller schools, and in smaller
classrooms, you force people to interact, and they are less hierarchical, less cliquish, and less self–
segregated." His study was conducted in two different high schools over two semesters. He goes on
to say, "Schools that offer students more choice – more elective courses, more ways to complete
requirements, a bigger range of potential

High Cost Of Tuition At High School
The community college has been considered the cheaper alternative for graduating high schools to
finish their prerequisites before transferring off to a 4 year university. Students initially take this
route due to the high cost of tuition at a 4 year institution and the fact that these classes come at a
lower cost (Lu, 2014, para. 1–2). But that doesn't mean the community can still be a bit costly for
some families in the range of the lower social economic class. Loans and interest rates to meet the
rising cost of school in general build up over time and present an economic barrier to a certain class
range of students. This past year, President Obama recently announced plans to make the first two
years of community college free for incoming students. According to the White House Blog, The
requirements are for students attend community at least partially and maintain an average GPA of a
2.5 (Hudson, 2015, The requirements, para. 1). This is an excellent decision on the president's part
and could help improve education in this country in general. The positives of this initiative would
include the fact that free community college is an inevitability, Student enrollment would increase,
and the states in general would be more persuaded to spend on higher education. For starters,
Community college is already on the road to becoming free in some form or another. With many

My High School
High School: The Early Years
High school is something we all go through, for some people it is a breeze but for others it is their
worst nightmare. For me, high school was a time for me to grow up and learn how to deal with
annoying people. I have had some good memories through my years at Burns Flat–Dill City High
School. I met people who have affected me on a personal level, they helped me realize what would
be the best route to take in a bad situation. I will never forget these experiences I faced. Freshman
year in high school was a weird experience for me, just thinking about finally being an official high
schooler terrified me. Even through all this the senior girls became friends with me and were
extremely nice to me, even when I was too cocky. Sports really helped me grow friendships with
people and create a self–pride in myself. My freshman year we were district campions and that was
the first time in Burns Flat–Dill City history to make it to regionals. We were in the very last game
in regionals and sadly lost out by a ball that was dropped in the outfield. That same year I went to
state in track for the very first time. Through all my sports accomplishments I was ready to take on
my sophomore year. My sophomore year was a pretty relax year academic not really sport wise. Just
like the year before, my softball team made it past districts and on to regionals. But this time we
faced harder competition and we were out in just two games. But when basketball

Transitioning Into High School
The effect of choosing which high school a student will be attending will last longer than the four
years. The decision follows the student into college, continuing their habits set in high school. The
more basic question is whether they will attend a same sex or co–ed school. The different types of
high schools do not only effect the 9–12th grade experience but effects the behavior of students
transitioning into college classrooms. "This is a common debate in my house: whether it is helpful to
attend same sex high schools or not. My sister attended a same sex school and her college professor
noticed before she could tell him. Because of her active participation and constant hand raising, her
teacher asked if she attended a single sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"It took me a few years of high school to be comfortable raising my hand in class. I was too scared
to ask something dumb, or answer a question wrong that I found myself and other girls asking each
other questions before asking the teacher," said Jessica Recker, senior at Perrysburg high school.
Many co–ed schools find it necessary to have a talk to males about how to treat female classmates
and how to behave themselves while also teachings girls how to properly treat their make
classmates. Single sex schools communicate more on how to handle the drama that may occur when
putting same sex students together. Transitioning from high school to college is a complex process
for students from all schools. It's complexity is rooted not only in choosing the gender of the school
but rather the size, environment, distance and other factors that go into determining where these new
adults will go for their next four years. Although the college atmosphere is a new feel for all
incoming freshmen, the habits and behavior students learn from high school tend to stick with them
when they enter classes at universities. The effect of going to a same sex high school can show
differently in all students at the start of college. The same goes for co–ed graduating

High School Dropouts
Working two jobs, paying bills, and trying to live a good life are what most dropouts go through.
Education is a key factor in succeeding in life. However, not all students get to complete their high
school and continue on to a college. Completing high school and getting a degree from college is the
ticket to a better lifestyle. As we look around us, people are still living and paying off their bills even
as dropouts from high school. However, they are living at a hand–to–mouth situation. Most dropouts
probably work several jobs to just pay off their bills and support themselves. Today, you can have a
well–respected job and a better lifestyle with simply an associate or bachelor's degree. So, what is
wrong with being a high school dropout? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(3) Yet, a student is exempt from this policy if he fulfills the requirements under article 25.086 in the
education code. (4) This policy lists the students who are exempt from the compulsory attendance
age. Under this policy, a student of at least 17 years old working on an exam equivalent to high
school with a few other requirements and a student of at least 16 years old also preparing to take an
exam equivalent to high school with a few other requirements are exempt from the compulsory
attendance age stated in section 25.085. (4) Both of these policies contribute to the percentage of
high school dropouts. The question that boggles my mind is if students have to attend school until
the age of 18 or can complete an exam equivalent to high school if they are exempt under section
25.085, then according to the Texas on the Brink report, why does Texas have such a low percentage
of students who graduate from high school? (3,5) Because of the definition of dropout by NCES, I
do not consider the students under section 25.086 as dropouts because they are "enrolled in grades
7–12," are "not expelled," do not graduate, but do get their GED. (2) Therefore, they are not
dropouts. However since these students do not actually graduate from high school,

High Tech High School Research Paper
"The road ahead waits for your journey, you just got to take the first step." High Tech High School is
my road to success. Not only will it fulfill my academic needs, but will help me stay on the right
track as a dancer and an individual. As a girl who has gone to Catholic school her whole life, I
question going to a public school. Why should I go down this road? Because High Tech is not your
average high school. It gives people the opportunity to be surrounded by those who share your same
passion. People who are going down the same road. No matter the number of bumps in the road, I
consistently challenge to push myself past my limits and attain my ambitions. I am sure that High
Tech will help me achieve my goal of becoming a choreographer.

Personal Narrative: My High And High School Career
Throughout my Jr. High and High School career, I've had many pastimes and hobbies that I found I
could participate in outside of the classroom for. During the seventh grade and all the way until my
sophomore year of High School I participated in basketball. From the seventh grade until my senior
year of high school I participated in cross–country. In Middle School I participated in wrestling, and
most recently I have partaken in soccer for my junior and senior year of High School. Besides sports
I spent a good amount of time dedicating myself to volunteer for the local parks and rec center. I
volunteered on projects such as the Annual Triathlon, the Haunted House, and many more. I also
volunteered for the local Clinic during their annual 5K Color Run. ... Show more content on

During my Freshman year of High School I was able to work at the Aquatics Center in Dutch
Harbor from April, 2014 until July of 2015. I had to quit working there because I was moving to
Kodiak. In Kodiak I had a job at the local Recycling Center from December, 2015 until March of
2016 because I was laid off. Most recently I decided to create my own lawn care business during the
summer which taught me a lot about responsibility and how to maintain a schedule to keep
customers satisfied. Over the course of my Education I have been able to participate in many
activities outside of school which I feel has taught me many valuable life lessons. In sports, I
learned to continue to keep pushing even in the face of adversity. In volunteer work, I learned to
care for other people then myself and that doing something besides for a paycheck is a valuable
asset to a community. And through employment opportunities, I learned responsibility. With these
lessons I've learned, I will continue to carry them with me through everything I do for the rest of my

High Rigor Courses At Englewood High School
By the Year 2018, almost two thirds of jobs created in the United States will require some form of
post–secondary education. Research has indicated that a rigorous high school curriculum is a strong
predictor of college success and is positively related to standardized test scores, college enrollment
rates, four–year graduation rates and negatively related to remediation rates. Additionally, students
taking high rigor coursework receive several benefits in their postsecondary careers as college
students including the ability to prove to universities that they have the ability to succeed in high
rigor courses, improvement of writing skills and problem solving skills, the development of study
habits necessary for college and the possibility of earning college credit while in high school. This
research brief investigates the effects of participation in several high rigor courses at Englewood
High School.
Purpose and Overview
The purpose of this research is to provide information to the district to determine if they are
preparing students for post–secondary success. The principal research question that this research
looks to answer is: "Do students who participate in high rigor coursework increase their odds of 1)
enrolling in college immediately after high school 2) persisting in college through the second year
and 3) graduating from college in six years?"
Post–secondary Success Indicators. Specifically, this reports looks at high rigor coursework that

High Schoolers And High School
Think back to when you were a child. While looking around, you often realize all of your friends
playing sports are exceptional at them. You are not the ultimate athlete and honestly don't enjoy
sports at all, but you keep playing anyways. All of your friends' play and your parents have always
encouraged you to do well in sports and to be the best. You know there are other opportunities out
there for you, but you don't feel as popular just being satisfactory in school. In today's world, high
schoolers are constantly under pressure to do well in sports, but not necessarily in school. Life
lessons, like getting a job or just being an overall good person fly out the window. Central High
School focuses too much on athletics instead of academics; this problem can be alleviated through
the encouragement of parents to promote academic success and to help set realistic goals.
Parents need to promote academic success at every age and no matter what the student is involved
in. One of the problems today is that too many kids are overinvolved in activities, not allowing them
to have the proper amount of time to finish homework. Children are constantly under the
presumption that sports are more important than doing well in school. They work harder in practice
than when doing homework. Parents need to help encourage kids to get homework done, excel
academically and to gain the right friends. Many kids wind up making friends through sports and
then they feel as though if they

Traditional High School Is Not A Traditional High School
When someone typically thinks of a high school, they think about a traditional high school. What I
mean by a traditional high school is a high school that consists of more than 600 students just trying
to get their high school diplomas. Middle College is not your traditional high school. I come across
a lot of people rejecting Middle College because it takes away from the "real high school
experience". However, being at MCHS has given me a unique high school experience that not
everyone can relate to.
I am here at MCHS because it's a challenge for me. I've grown a lot because of MCHS and their
high standards and I am able to take school more serious now. I was at a point in school where I just
wanted to be academically challenged and the opportunity at MCHS opened up. I came from a big
middle school where a lot of the kids were very ignorant and I wanted to separate myself from them.
It motivates me to know that I could potentially earn an AA degree at the end of high school which
is outstanding to me. I enjoy learning in small communities especially where people share similar
academic goals. I like being surrounded daily by people who support and want you to succeed. At
MCHS, the majority of the students tend to aim higher academically which gives a sense of
motivation to the students knowing that education is important to everyone. What I really enjoy
about MCHS is that you start to make connections not just in high school, but in the college as well.

High Noon : A Formal Analysis Of High Noon
Standing Your Ground: A Formal Analysis of High Noon Kane, the main character in High Noon is
a Hero. He didn't slay dragons or walk through fire. He didn't conquer the world or go on an
adventurous quest. However, he did something most people are afraid to do. He stood up for what
he believed in regardless of whether he stood alone. Made by Carl Foreman, this movie contained a
marshal named Kane. News went around town that Frank Miller, a criminal Kane put in prison a
while back, was coming to town on the noon train to get his revenge. Instead of leaving town, he
decided to stay and fight. He turned to the townspeople for help, but none lifted a finger. They were
all concerned for their own safety. Nevertheless, despite all of the pleas from the people and his wife
for him to leave town, Kane's plans remain unchanged. Kane was not a hero like Thor, or Wonder
Woman, but the type of hero from real life; one who stood up for what he believed in, even if he
stood alone. Foreman skillfully highlights the loneliness that Kane feels when facing Miller and his
gang. Near the end of the movie, Kane was standing in the street waiting for Miller to arrive. Sweat
was pouring down his face, and he was shaking with fear. Then, the camera slowly zooms out and
the rest of the street is desolate. There is nothing but silence as the people fearfully wait in hiding for
Kane to face Miller. Similarly, other works of literature praise those who fight for what they believe
in, even if they

High School Obstacles
Challenges and obstacles are life defining moments in someone's life that teaches them skills and
responses that they can utilize and build upon for the duration of their lives. I would not necessarily
call my challenge a moment, I would call it a period or season of my life where I had to learn how to
cope with the many personalities of high school students, and differentiate who I would consider my
friends. High school is a very stressful environment and peer pressure is very prevalent. Not only is
there the fact that you may not attend a high school in the same town as you live, but inevitably, it
thrusts you into a world of people you may not even know.
My first year of high school was a bit of a challenge because I did not know anyone

High Schools : A Critique Of The American High School
A Critique of the American High School
The idea that the American education system requires its students to attend school for a full 13 years
is absurd. The average student does not need 13 years of high school to be prepared for graduation
and college, and those who do require that much attention most likely would not succeed in college
anyways. In the typical high school, students and teachers waste more time focusing on sports and
social issues rather than actual schooling. When one truly realizes how many days are wasted at
sporting events or on silly pep rallies and activities, then it becomes clear why it's a waste to attend
school for such a large amount of time.
High schools in America typically are in session for 9–10 out of 12 total months. Students get the
occasional week–long breaks every so often for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the like. Classes
usually run from approximately 8 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday, with hardly any breaks in
between. An average class can last anywhere from 45 minutes all the way to two hours depending
on the style of school you attend. Most high school aged teens also participate in one, or several
extracurricular activities. The pressure to succeed greatly in these activities can lead a student to let
their life become consumed with a nonstop cycle of school, activity, school, activity, etc.
Sports tend to dominate the high school scene these days. Almost any school you walk through, you
can see several trophies and posters

Although I was excited to be cruising down Highway 30 there was one problem we weren't going to

Sports have two options for involvement play the game or sit the bench; however in FFA there are
uncountable options for student involvement. In FFA no matter the involvement level a member is
still a part of an organization nearly 600,000 students strong. In a sport you learn to work as a team
with the others you see at school every day, in FFA you can meet people and work with a team from
all around the U.S. by attending events such as State and National Convention, Washington
Leadership Conference, and FFA Competitions. The Northeast FFA Chapter offered the opportunity
for 5 sophomores this past summer to go on the Washington Leadership Conference. Lucky enough
to be one of these participants I rode the 22 hour bus ride to D.C. and on the way there I had already
met several people from around Iowa and as soon as I got there I met my roommates. My
roommates were from Kansas, Missouri, and Ohio. Throughout the week we got to meet more kids
from around the U.S. like New Jersey, South Dakota, and more as a big group we packaged nearly
30,000 meals in one morning, we traveled to Arlington National Cemetery and paid respect for those
who died for our freedom, and traveled the subway inspiring D.C. natives with our blue and gold
jacket all week. Packaging meals inspired us to think about other people and what an advantage we
have just in food. All of those 30,000 meals stayed in the D.C. area and they would all be used
before the month was up. I

Sebastian. Caleb's eyes lingered on a boy in the crowd of cool kids and saw him coughing and
hacking. His eyes lingered a little longer, then he went off to find Sebastian and Lilliana. "Hey

Caleb asked, trying not to sound nervous. "Trying to make friends

High Stakes Testing In High Schools
Schools across the nation are eliminating programs that enhance creativity or even discussions about
the current world events. They all have an identical curriculum and are set up to proceed one type of
mind that processes information in one way. Thus, high–stakes testing pressures students to improve
their performance. Lisa Collier states, "... So many Michigan students stayed home when their
assessment tests were given last year that several high schools were threatened with loss of
accreditation. In Illinois, 200 students expressed their scorn for the state's exam by showing up–and
deliberately giving the wrong answers. Critics feel the students are being turned off to learning
because they're being force–fed the dry facts and figures needed to excel on high–stakes tests..." The
school is more about testing now, and we have turned away from creative teaching to teach a test
and have unmotivated the students to achieve success. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At my high school, all students from 9 through 12–grade levels were required to take the Regents
exam authorized by the state of New York. If students did not pass the Regents exam in June, their
first time, and were forced to go to summer school and take the Regents again, and if they did not
pass the test again they were held back a grade or they did not graduate with their class. Thus, it is
hard to test students in this way since no one was taught the same way all 12 years or learned the
same exact things. That's not all, before taking the Regent exam in June, we had 4 district
assessments each quarter. Higher amounts of testing will end up frustrating the students and they
will feel tired when taking state tests. Thus, high–stakes testing is profoundly a mistaken approach
of evaluating student's

Freshman In High School

  • 1. Freshman In High School 9th grade is the most important year of highschool I believe freshman year of high school is essential in deciding whether a student drops out or stays on school. I believe that you should try your hardest freshman year so that you can stay motivated and get good start in high school. Freshmans should try their hardest in freshman year or it can damage their self esteem, in article: ¨Ninth Grade: The Most Important Year in High School" paragraph 4. Usually if a student gets held back a grade than their peers (from both grades) will judge them, and the judgment will not motivate them, it would lower their self esteem and it can possibly turn into a vicious cycle and the student could possibly stay back again. • 3. Transitioning From Junior High To High School Transitioning from the junior high to the high school will always be a defining moment of growth and learning for me. I remember middle school as if it were yesterday; I formed a tight relationship with the people in my class and we shared jokes, and supported each other no matter what. However, I knew 8th–grade year couldn't last forever and that, eventually my then best friend would be going to a different school and everyone who I saw and laughed with every day would be split apart. Some people may argue that I could still keep in touch with most of my close friends but I knew it would never be the same without us all together. Although it seems childish to me now, I remember the sickening feeling of everyone I love leaving me, and the dread ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. High School Problems High school students face many problems with the education system. They have become expected to be ready for anything life throws at them, when in reality they are struggling with the obstacles thrown at them on a daily basis. School is the one major problem adolescents have had to deal with growing up. Undergraduates hear that "high school is the best four years of their lives" but how can it be the best when there is something more important or nobody truly cares about their education? Sports are such a huge factor in high school, being on varsity, having all the attention, winning against your rival school, and winning the championship game, that is what the full high school experience is, right? "The team sports of high school dominate more than student culture. A community's loyalty to the high school system is often based on the extent to which varsity teams succeed" (source B). In high school, everyone worries about fitting in with what everyone else thinks and not paying attention to what really matters. On Friday's instead of staying home and studying for the test there is on Monday they would rather go to the football game and push off studying for the weekend, but then something comes up during those two days, causing them not to studying at all, doing lousy on the test, causing their grades to suffer, but then complain when they have a terrible grade in the class. Schools publicize sports more than anything academic, there are posters around campus, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. High Teacher Turnover Chapter three discusses the quantitative research used to uncover whether associations exist between specific working conditions present in high minority and high poverty schools and low teacher turnover in those schools. The chapter begins with a review of the problem statement and research questions followed by a description of the research design. The process for collecting and analyzing data concludes this chapter. Without data revealing what works to keep teachers in hard–to–staff schools in Indiana, solutions to the perceived teacher shortage problem are a shot in the dark. Data from this research will provide educators and policy makers with numeric descriptions demonstrating which working conditions are present in high minority and high poverty schools that experience less teacher turnover than schools with low minority and low poverty schools. Analysis of these data can help educators and policy makers make strategic decisions about how to craft effective policy to keep more teachers in their current schools, thus slowing the revolving door that leads to excess demand for teachers. The researcher is concerned with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What are the differences between teachers' perceptions of working conditions in schools with low and with high teacher turnover rates in high minority and high poverty schools? 2. What is the relationship between teachers' perceptions of working conditions and teacher retention in high minority and high poverty schools? The researcher hypothesizes that working conditions, individually and in combinations, will influence teachers' plans to remain or exit a building and that these perceptions are associated with teachers' ages and years of experience. The null hypotheses states there is no difference between the working conditions in high minority and in high poverty school districts with lower teacher turnover and the working conditions in high minority and in high poverty school districts with higher teacher turnover. • 9. Break Into High School Kids usually get overwhelm with all the work that gets thrown at them in 9th grade. People told me that high school is way harder and I have to work harder. I was so nervous on the second for freshman, I am now the smallest kid in the school. I was afraid one wrong move my life would be over. If I walked into the wrong room hundreds of eyes would be starring at me thinking I was an idiot. That was mostly my biggest fear. I just told myself I beat a lot of other kids did it to. The transition could be vey hard for some people, but it is fine. They are a few important key ideas that students should know before going into high school. First off, join a activity. Join a club, a sport, or band and choir. I recommend to join a club. It could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Friends change, classmates, and maybe whoever is reading this has change from last year. It could be tough for a student to get through the school year because the one person they once relay on is now struggling themselves. Coming into high school can be very stressful, they are again now at the bottom of the latter, and last in the school. Other people can be a bad influence on other students which could prevent them from doing homework or activities. This could cause kids to become inti– social and have a change in mood. The best way to deal with this it to keep going, stay positive, and just role with it. Have a shell and accept people no matter what. Lastly, grades can kill. I mean do not let grades slip. Always do, and hand in assignments in the beginning of the semester or quarter. Grades matter more in high than in middle school. Collages are going to look at high school grades. I did not try in middle school at all knowing this, so most of my grades were C's. Now that I am in high school I stay up till the middle of the night doing home work. Try to check the grade book on Skyward once or twice a week, and ask the teacher nicely if an assignment is missing. Never let grades slip; the punishment could be summer ... • 11. High School Students On The SAT: High Stakes Analysis James S. Murphy wrote about how the SAT is a high Stakes evaluation of enormous magnitude in which colleges use to analyze the readiness and skills of high school students. Some students are not financial stable to pay tutors or discover other resources that enable them to get adequate scores on the various exams. These rigorous exams act as a subject course other than showing students abilities through their academic achievements in high school, something where colleges rather judge students on their SAT to determine if their good enough to attend college. The College Board are now proposing a program named Khan Academy; which better equip students to be prepared and comfortable taking exams under pressure, which allow the programs offer varies ... • 13. High School And College High school and college have the legacy to hold the greatest years of your life. All of these fantastic memories can be forever engraved into your mind. High School takes place in the middle of a person's teenage years, which is also a very confusing time for most teenagers. Although college can be attended by a wide variety of ages, the average age that attends college is roughly eighteen to twenty–five years old. Between these two ages a lot of growing up is required before you enter the real world. This is why there will always be a large amount of reasons why college is different than high school. The social network that infests a high school is an intricate and complicated system of teenagers disliking other teenagers since their days in middle school. Everyone knows everyone, and each person is willing to go to the extreme to expose their enemies. Being in high school allows for a person to make a large amount of friends, but college is where people make a smaller group of friends, which are more close–knitted bonds. College is a more simplistic form of high school, but still contains the everyday drama. The key differences are the fact that there are thousands of students on the campus, and that throughout the year you might see a quarter of the total student body. Because of this, friend groups are greatly smaller than that of high school, which provides less drama. One big advantage that college has over high school is the implication of sororities and fraternities. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. High School Sports Playing a sport or being part of a high school athletic team is something that is very common in today's society. Whether male or female, there are many different sports to choose from. Baseball, football, and soccer are three of the main sports that boys participate in. For girls, it may vary from softball, soccer, tennis, and sometimes even cheerleading. Whatever a person's preference may be, playing any sport can be very demanding. The number of high school students who play a sport is one that increases every school year; the effects of playing a sport in high school are losing free time, staying fit, and struggling to maintain high grades throughout the sporting season and school year. • 17. The High Life The High Life In high school peer pressure is stronger then ever. Students are critically judged by their peers and are forced to either compromise one's own moral values to fit into the group or face being ostracized and out casted. Students sometimes feel backed against a wall and following the group is sometimes easier than going against the grain. It all started a few years ago on a blistering summer day towards the end of the school year. Class was, like usual, long, boring and unbelievably tiresome. All day long I had been thanking God, more than usual, that it was Friday; earlier that day I ran it an old friend, Deiondre Howard, we made plans to hangout; he said he wanted to introduce me to a few friends and chill with a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wade opens the door and instantly a blinding light and a strong thick pungent wave of haze floats out the room. A smell of flowers and smoke hit my nose like a freight train. Now I know everyone is familiar with this situation. In everyone's life they come to a crossroads where their common sense and mind tells them to turn around and walk away but their curiosity draws them closer. Well this was one of those situations. We enter the room and sit down on wades futon. Across from me on the laz–y–boy is Christina, immediately that nervousness is replaced with stupidty and cockiness. So for the next few hours I partake in the consumption of alcohol and marijuana, all in the pursuit of trying to impress this girl across from me. For me this was a serious break of moral code. I had always prided myself on my ability to be a leader and not a follower, to avoid un–wanted pressures from peers. Looking back I see how this one incident lead to another and then another. Next thing I know, im hanging out with a totally different group of friends. My afternoons started to change from going home and doing homework to going over Wade's house, smoking pot, and doing half my home work. I think teachers and parents need to really consider the effects peer pressure has on their children. The simple feeling of not wanting to disappoint someone is enough to lead them to drastic behavior changes in order to do what they think might impress a group of friends or ... • 19. Transition To High School The transition from junior high to high school isn't all that it sought out to be, but it is definitely different. In junior high we heard numerous rumors about how difficult high school would be compared to junior high. We heard how extreme the material would be, how much more homework we would have, how the upper classmen pick on freshmen, and of course getting our first letter grade dropped. High school is certainly everything that people claimed it would be, but it is undeniably attainable. Almost everyone has seen a movie where freshmen are picked on by upper classmen. Although this might seem scary, it is typically false. Our seniors at Ironton high school are mostly supportive of the freshmen throughout the hallways, as of what I see and hear. Since we are a very prideful school, we come together and have pride for all of the student's academics, athleticism, and leadership. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This, in some cases, is generally true. It is not near as easy as the junior high level material, but it's also far from impossible. There is a lot more homework, but what I have realized is that if we do our own homework, the classes and test are moderately easy. Studying is unquestionably more necessary than that of what it was in junior high, but isn't as bad of what I have heard. Last but not least, we hear how we need to learn to accept getting our first B in high school. This statement is accurate indeed. This year, I got my first B and I was extremely discouraged at first. Then I realized that life doesn't revolve around getting one B. As long as we know that we tried our hardest, everything will be okay. I have always believed in thinking positively, and understanding that everything happens for a reason. In ten years, we won't be thinking about getting our first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Essay On High Grades In High School As I made the walk into my first hour, geometry, my first day of high school; I thought to myself I would never pass this class, I am a freshman in a sophomore class and I have not been taught any of this before. Nervous and scared about the rest of the day and how hard my classes would be, I looked forward to a year of low grades and failed assignments. However, this was not the case, high school classes were much different then what I had thought. Many teachers were easy on students, gave less homework than I had expected and were lenient on the homework assignments. Much different than what I had expected, I have flown through high school with ease and superior grades. On the other hand, as I begin to take college courses, I have learned that those grades in High School were much easier to obtain and were of less value. High Schools have made it easier to get higher grades, and that in turn, will affect my grades in college. It can be seen strongly at my High School, Oologah High, that students have gotten lazier and parents still expect teachers to hand out better grades. When enrolling and selecting classes; students have the option to select easier, less demanding classes, yet are still rewarded with high grades. Now, instead of taking classes that reward hard work and prepare students for the future, they are able to pass easy classes and receive better scores. Those students who take more rigorous courses are slated with more work, tougher assignments, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Junior High Vs High School We live in a society that puts high school up on a pedestal, and it is often referred to as the best four years of our lives; however, high school can be some of the most stressful years of a student's life, as well as the most difficult, especially if we are unprepared. The various differences between junior high and high school are astounding. Transitioning from junior high to high school, requires students to reach a completely different level of maturity and responsibility. In junior high, poor actions didn't have severe consequences, whereas, in high school, consequences can be a detrimental as being suspended from school. Also, middle school requires substantially less responsibility than high school; in middle school, there are no repercussions for turning assignments in late. In comparison to high school, all late assignments result in a specific percentage deduction from your earned score. Another difference between junior high and high school is the amount of time spent on and the difficulty level of homework. Junior high assignments were much more straightforward than high school assignments. High school is much more difficult and demanding than junior high. Overall, junior high does not adequately prepare students for high school. As a child, my parents repeatedly told me that all actions have consequences; it was up to me whether the consequences were satisfactory or unsatisfactory. Being able to speak to stu–dents who are where I once was in life was rejuvenating. In comparison to the film we watched in class, High Noon directed by Fred Zinnemann. These two westerns had many similarities and differences. • 33. High School Dress Codes In High Schools The logic and mindset of how the high school was structured were absolutely ridiculous. Basically, like Beacon, my high school was a school for kids with learning disabilities. It was also a K–12 school. However, they defined learning disability as the students being somewhat untrustworthy. When there was a non–academic situation arising, they would only confront the main person causing all of it and not ask witnesses. The majority of my high school teachers were some of the most unpleasant people ever. For starters, they would overly enforce small rules that weren't necessary. For example, they were a huge pain about the dress code. When I first got there, the dress code was polo shirt only, and guys had to have them tucked in at all times. Even when it was slightly untucked, they would give us a hard time about it. When someone wasn't wearing a polo shirt and was wearing a t–shirt instead, no matter what was on it, they would make them go to the bathroom and turn it inside out. Fortunately, it didn't last too long because during my sophomore year, my best friend managed to rally almost the entire high school (there were only about thirty to forty people) and we broke the entire dress code for an entire week at the end of the year. Since then, they pretty much let us wear whatever we wanted as long as it wasn't too revealing. There was also a point when they were giving out detentions for carrying backpacks from class to class. • 39. High School Cliques In High Schools Any teen movie ever made has successfully pushed the social hierarchal agenda. Look at any John Hughes movie from the 1980's and you'll see a familiar trend. The common stereotypical high school cliques such as the popular crowd, the jocks, and the nerds flashed across the screen. Ever since the inception of films geared towards teenagers, the idea of queen bees and academically inept jocks was reinforced in a negative light. Creating anxieties for middle schoolers around the world. Though these heavy stereotypes do plague many high schools, there are some schools that seem to be exempt from the trend. Studies show the exemption could stem from the size of the school. However, the amount of freedom the students have also made a difference when it comes to social order. Daniel McFarland, a professor of education at Stanford Graduate School of Education, conducted a study monitoring two separate high schools on what causes cliques, and why they occur. McFarland states in his research "Larger schools that offer more choice and variety are most likely to form hierarchies, cliques, and self–segregation, ... In smaller schools, and in smaller classrooms, you force people to interact, and they are less hierarchical, less cliquish, and less self– segregated." His study was conducted in two different high schools over two semesters. He goes on to say, "Schools that offer students more choice – more elective courses, more ways to complete requirements, a bigger range of potential ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. High Cost Of Tuition At High School The community college has been considered the cheaper alternative for graduating high schools to finish their prerequisites before transferring off to a 4 year university. Students initially take this route due to the high cost of tuition at a 4 year institution and the fact that these classes come at a lower cost (Lu, 2014, para. 1–2). But that doesn't mean the community can still be a bit costly for some families in the range of the lower social economic class. Loans and interest rates to meet the rising cost of school in general build up over time and present an economic barrier to a certain class range of students. This past year, President Obama recently announced plans to make the first two years of community college free for incoming students. According to the White House Blog, The requirements are for students attend community at least partially and maintain an average GPA of a 2.5 (Hudson, 2015, The requirements, para. 1). This is an excellent decision on the president's part and could help improve education in this country in general. The positives of this initiative would include the fact that free community college is an inevitability, Student enrollment would increase, and the states in general would be more persuaded to spend on higher education. For starters, Community college is already on the road to becoming free in some form or another. With many other western countries vying for and initiating universal education in both the community and university ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. My High School High School: The Early Years High school is something we all go through, for some people it is a breeze but for others it is their worst nightmare. For me, high school was a time for me to grow up and learn how to deal with annoying people. I have had some good memories through my years at Burns Flat–Dill City High School. I met people who have affected me on a personal level, they helped me realize what would be the best route to take in a bad situation. I will never forget these experiences I faced. Freshman year in high school was a weird experience for me, just thinking about finally being an official high schooler terrified me. Even through all this the senior girls became friends with me and were extremely nice to me, even when I was too cocky. Sports really helped me grow friendships with people and create a self–pride in myself. My freshman year we were district campions and that was the first time in Burns Flat–Dill City history to make it to regionals. We were in the very last game in regionals and sadly lost out by a ball that was dropped in the outfield. That same year I went to state in track for the very first time. Through all my sports accomplishments I was ready to take on my sophomore year. My sophomore year was a pretty relax year academic not really sport wise. Just like the year before, my softball team made it past districts and on to regionals. But this time we faced harder competition and we were out in just two games. But when basketball ... The decision follows the student into college, continuing their habits set in high school. The more basic question is whether they will attend a same sex or co–ed school. The different types of high schools do not only effect the 9–12th grade experience but effects the behavior of students transitioning into college classrooms. "This is a common debate in my house: whether it is helpful to attend same sex high schools or not. My sister attended a same sex school and her college professor noticed before she could tell him. "It took me a few years of high school to be comfortable raising my hand in class. I was too scared to ask something dumb, or answer a question wrong that I found myself and other girls asking each other questions before asking the teacher," said Jessica Recker, senior at Perrysburg high school. Many co–ed schools find it necessary to have a talk to males about how to treat female classmates and how to behave themselves while also teachings girls how to properly treat their make classmates. Single sex schools communicate more on how to handle the drama that may occur when putting same sex students together. Transitioning from high school to college is a complex process for students from all schools. It's complexity is rooted not only in choosing the gender of the school but rather the size, environment, distance and other factors that go into determining where these new adults will go for their next four years. Although the college atmosphere is a new feel for all incoming freshmen, the habits and behavior students learn from high school tend to stick with them when they enter classes at universities. However, not all students get to complete their high school and continue on to a college. Completing high school and getting a degree from college is the ticket to a better lifestyle. As we look around us, people are still living and paying off their bills even as dropouts from high school. However, they are living at a hand–to–mouth situation. You are not the ultimate athlete and honestly don't enjoy sports at all, but you keep playing anyways. All of your friends' play and your parents have always encouraged you to do well in sports and to be the best. You know there are other opportunities out there for you, but you don't feel as popular just being satisfactory in school. In today's world, high schoolers are constantly under pressure to do well in sports, but not necessarily in school. Life lessons, like getting a job or just being an overall good person fly out the window. Central High School focuses too much on athletics instead of academics; this problem can be alleviated through the encouragement of parents to promote academic success and to help set realistic goals. Parents need to promote academic success at every age and no matter what the student is involved in. One of the problems today is that too many kids are overinvolved in activities, not allowing them to have the proper amount of time to finish homework. Children are constantly under the presumption that sports are more important than doing well in school. They work harder in practice than when doing homework. Parents need to help encourage kids to get homework done, excel academically and to gain the right friends. Many kids wind up making friends through sports and then they feel as though if they ... I come across a lot of people rejecting Middle College because it takes away from the "real high school experience". However, being at MCHS has given me a unique high school experience that not everyone can relate to. I am here at MCHS because it's a challenge for me. It motivates me to know that I could potentially earn an AA degree at the end of high school which is outstanding to me. I enjoy learning in small communities especially where people share similar academic goals. I like being surrounded daily by people who support and want you to succeed. At MCHS, the majority of the students tend to aim higher academically which gives a sense of motivation to the students knowing that education is important to everyone. He didn't conquer the world or go on an adventurous quest. However, he did something most people are afraid to do. He stood up for what he believed in regardless of whether he stood alone. Made by Carl Foreman, this movie contained a marshal named Kane. News went around town that Frank Miller, a criminal Kane put in prison a while back, was coming to town on the noon train to get his revenge. Instead of leaving town, he decided to stay and fight. He turned to the townspeople for help, but none lifted a finger. They were all concerned for their own safety. Nevertheless, despite all of the pleas from the people and his wife for him to leave town, Kane's plans remain unchanged. Kane was not a hero like Thor, or Wonder Woman, but the type of hero from real life; one who stood up for what he believed in, even if he stood alone. Foreman skillfully highlights the loneliness that Kane feels when facing Miller and his gang. Near the end of the movie, Kane was standing in the street waiting for Miller to arrive. Sweat was pouring down his face, and he was shaking with fear. Then, the camera slowly zooms out and the rest of the street is desolate. There is nothing but silence as the people fearfully wait in hiding for Kane to face Miller. Similarly, other works of literature praise those who fight for what they believe in, even if they ... • 71. High Schools : A Critique Of The American High School A Critique of the American High School The idea that the American education system requires its students to attend school for a full 13 years is absurd. The average student does not need 13 years of high school to be prepared for graduation and college, and those who do require that much attention most likely would not succeed in college anyways. In the typical high school, students and teachers waste more time focusing on sports and social issues rather than actual schooling. When one truly realizes how many days are wasted at sporting events or on silly pep rallies and activities, then it becomes clear why it's a waste to attend school for such a large amount of time. High schools in America typically are in session for 9–10 out of 12 total months. Students get the occasional week–long breaks every so often for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the like. Classes usually run from approximately 8 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday, with hardly any breaks in between. An average class can last anywhere from 45 minutes all the way to two hours depending on the style of school you attend. Most high school aged teens also participate in one, or several extracurricular activities.
