The Rebellious Life Of Rosa Parks
I. Jim Crow was a big issue during Rosa Parks' life.
A. What were Jim Crow Laws? 1. Jim Crow Laws are define by the Dictionary.Reference As the
"practice or policy of segregating or discriminating against blacks, against public places, public
vehicles, or employment." 2. Now what was exactly bad about the Laws in the first place? How
could you imagine what life was like for African American people during the early 20th Century
during Rosa Parks' time?
B. Why were the laws wrong?
1. According to an article on the site U–S–History.com, Jim Crow Laws were made to have
"separate but equal" treatment to blacks. Though the treatment was not equal in anyway. They were
treated inferior in many ways.
2. The Montgomery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rosa Parks help bring together the movement and helped concentrate it as well.
1. The last document about the arrest records also speaks on what happened shortly after her arrest.
Now it says "Mrs. Parks was active in the local National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP), serving as secretary to E.D. Nixon, president of the Montgomery
chapter." Now because of her position in the NAACP, the arrest was heard by most of the members.
It also states Martin Luther King Jr came to join in with the movement as well.
2. Now Martin Luther King later on became one of the most important figures of the Civil Rights
Movement and originally he came to help after hearing Parks was arrested. Rosa Parks had an
interview telling how the public response was. She stated "It was put in the paper that I had been
arrested." She then spoke on the fact that once people found out the leader of the NAACP E.D.
Nixon held a meeting at a church, which King was the Pastor of. Their way of fighting back Parks
said was to, 4 days after her arrest, "stay off in large numbers and did not ride the bus" That then
spark the rest of the Civil Rights movement and allowed for people to end segregation, not only on
the bus, but in everything throughout the United

Speech About Billy Cheeseburger
Billy Cheeseburger
Do you want to hear a story? Oh, you're going to hear a story alright a story that you will most likely
think of your whole life. This is the story of Billy Cheeseburger.
I grew up in Southern Alabama as a slave to an extremely rude owner with my mother in the 1840s.
We tried escaping hundreds of times, but we always managed a way to get caught. Due to our
relentless efforts in trying to escape, we would get whipped extremely hard, but I didn't care as long
as I was with my momma I knew that I was safe. Then that terrible day happened our owner
informed us there was a slave auction in Montgomery Alabama, 10 miles away from our home in
Richmond, Alabama. Like any other greedy white man, our owner came to my momma and told her
that she was going to be auctioned for money. Oh how much I cried that day. That night I tried
convincing my mother to escape in the morning and go to Fort Washington which was right across
Montgomery but my momma just wouldn't budge. She said that "They will find me and try and sell
me to another owner far away from you and you know yo momma can't run fast". To make me
happy, my momma told me that she was just going to be gone for a few weeks and that she will
eventually come back and that the two of us will escape to Fort Washington.
The Decision
I went with my momma to the auction where there were a lot of white men shouting about how
much money they would spend for a certain slave. My momma was up next for auctioning she said

Benedict Arnold Motivation
Benedict Arnold, "the most recognized name in American History 101" (Kullman, 2015), has
become tantamount with the word traitor. Nowadays, Benedict Arnold has become infamous for his
treacherous plot of giving West Point to the Redcoats, but I like to believe that most people overlook
his paramount embroilment in the early stages of the Revolutionary War and the reasons that he
decided to betray the United States. Arnold's decision wasn't one dimensional. In other words, many
factors were prevalent during the time of his attempt at treason that could have tipped him into the
idea of betraying America.
Born on January 14, 1741 in Norwich, Connecticut, Benedict Arnold appeared to most as an
interesting figure. According to Notable Biographies (n.d.), "Arnold was a risk–taker who looked for
outlets for his energetic and impulsive (taking action before thinking things through) nature. He
volunteered for the French and Indian War (1754–63), a war fought between France and England in
America for control of the colonial lands, but at eighteen he deserted in order to be with his mother,
who was dying." Arnold's impulsive behavior and his aptitude for war continued to be prevalent in
his life, but one thing that haunted his childhood would have to be death, seeing that three of his
siblings and both his parents died. Arnold's mother passed away in 1759. Secondly, Arnold's father
"proved to be a drunkard; only after [Benedict Arnold] moved to New Haven could he begin to free

Story Of An Hour Satire
There is immense power in well–written satire: it can make its audience laugh with witticisms
rooted in truths, even make them think differently about any subject, mundane or critical. Bad satire,
however, emphasizes all the wrong parts: it gets its facts wrong, goes off track, and closes its
audience's minds to any new way of thinking it might present. Li Chongyue and Wang Lihua's
article would be bad satire, a bad argument. Chongyue and Lihua's "A Caricature of an Ungrateful
and Unfaithful Wife" distorts Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" through imaginative
exaggeration of character interaction, emotional ignorance, and its simplification of the characters
and the text. Firstly, there is no evidence in the text of "The Story of an Hour" to suggest that Louise
Mallard has been at all unfaithful to her husband. One sentence within the article suggests that some
readers have sensed an extramarital affair–or an attempted one–between Mrs. Mallard and Richards,
which, given its inclusion, the authors appear to agree with (Chongyue and Lihua). However,
Richards is mentioned by name in the text of the short story three times: at the beginning when he
confirmed the news of Brently Mallard's death, toward the end when he awaited Josephine and
Louise at the bottom of the staircase, and when he tries to block Louise from seeing Brently Mallard
alive as he walks in the door (Chopin). He does not even truly interact with Louise: he is described
as "near her" when she learns of

Analysis Of I Have A Dream Speech
The year was 1963, as the chaos of segregation was unfolding in the Southern states, Governor
George C. Wallace and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, are at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.
In the beginning of the year, Governor Wallace will be addressing his constituents with his well–
known, "Segregation Now, Segregation Forever" speech. Nevertheless, it will be seven months later,
that Dr. King will convey his message in his famous, "I Have a Dream" speech. Individually, they
deliver historical speeches concerning civil rights, however, the dialogue encompasses completely
different messages. Comparatively, the two speeches will be presented side by side using Kairos,
Ethos, Logos, and Pathos.

Dr. King and Governor Wallace, both use strong evidence to strengthen their credibility and appeal
to Ethos. Governor Wallace attended the University of Alabama and graduated with a law degree,
which soon after he joined the US Army Air Corp. and was involved in a combat mission over
Japan. Upon returning, he became an Assistant States Attorney, and later a judge of the Third
Judicial Circuit of Alabama. George C. Wallace, campaigned for the Governor's seat in Alabama and
much to his dismay, he lost to his opponent who was a segregationist. Be that as it may, four years
later his decision was to run again, but this time he was endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan, who helped
him obtain the Governorship.
Martin Luther King Jr., was from a middle–class family with strong Baptist beliefs. Surprisingly, at
the young age of 15, he attended Morehouse College and later enter Boston University. Dr. King
obtained his pastoral and doctorate degrees, and appeared that he followed in the footsteps of his
grandfather and father to become a Baptist Pastor. While living in Montgomery, Alabama, a small
group of civil rights activists launched a boycott against the public bus system. Unbeknownst to Dr.
King, the activist would choose him as the representative for their cause. This would launch the
beginning of Dr. King's ongoing struggle to end segregation.

ART CRITICISM PAPER
ART CRITICISM PAPER
"The Grafin von Schonfeld with her Daughter" by Elizabeth Louise Vigee–LeBrun
In the University Of Arizona Museum Of Art, the Pfeiffer Gallery is displaying many art pieces of
oil on canvas paintings. These paintings are mostly portraits of people, both famous and not. They
are painted by a variety of artists of European decent and American decent between the mid 1700's
and the early 1900's. The painting by Elizabeth Louise Vigee–Lebrun caught my eye and drew me in
to look closely at its composition.
"The Grafin von Scholfeld with her Daughter" is oil on canvas art piece painted in 1793. It is a
painting of a woman holding her daughter on her lap, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The little girl's dress gives the texture of lightness and seems like airy fabric that would be thin and
translucent. The time in this piece is very accurate of the late 1700's and when viewing it, the time
seems classic. The emphasis of this piece is mainly the mother and the daughter, however when
looking at them you are drawn into looking at their realistic eyes. The eyes seem like the focal point
which draws the viewer in to the picture.
The relationship in the painting between the mother and daughter give it a definite asymmetrical
balance and maybe a little radial balance. A radial balance because of their eyes being the central
focus, then the faces, then the holding of each other, then where they are placed on the canvas, and
then the bench and the landscape. The colors used by the painter, also creates balance with in the
picture. The wine colored dress of the mother, red sash of the daughter's dress, ruby lips, and the
rosy cheeks give a warm feeling to the central focus of the mother and daughter. The cool color of
the sky is the same as the women's eyes as well as the trees and green on the mother's dress. These
balances give unity or a unifying feeling to the painting, especially between the mother and
daughter.
The idea of this piece is to show the connection between mother and daughter being painted. It
shows the time and the classic style of the

Likewise, Dr. King stood in a place of great significance. Here, in front of the statue of President
Lincoln, is where he will present his infamous "I Have a Dream" speech and it is evident of the great
significance it represents. It was in 1863 that President Lincoln fought to abolish slavery and by
coincidence, one hundred years later, Dr. King will be addressing more than 200,000 demonstrators
fighting the same fight. On this day Dr. King will articulately responds to Governor Wallace's
speech that had taken place seven months prior. As the prominent Dr. King put it, "Now is the time
to make justice a reality for all of God's children" (archives.gov). In other words, Dr. King is stating,
that equality and fair justice should not be based on, ethnicity, color, or status, but in essence we are
all created equal and ought to live harmoniously. Throughout these two speeches, Dr. King and
Governor Wallace, both use strong evidence to strengthen their credibility and appeal to Ethos.
Comparatively, both men are well educated, from the South and are well respected within their
community. Governor Wallace was born a farmer's son in the year 1919. Though he received a law

Capture of Fort Ticonderoga: Benedict Arnold
Capture of Fort Ticonderoga
Prior to the American Revolution, Benedict Arnold was a captain in the Governor's Second
Company of Guards. When hearing about the battles of Lexington and Concord, Arnold and his men
became eager for action. They marched off to Cambridge to ask for the commission of the
Massachusetts Committee of Safety to capture Fort Ticonderoga. Along the way, Arnold's group met
up with Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys. Arnold and Allen disputed about who was in
total command but Arnold's attempt to take command was futile so he accompanied the Green
Mountain Boys with Allen as leader. On May 10th, the two groups successfully captured the fort by
surprising the British Garrison.
After the capture of the fort, another dispute had risen about who gets credit. Arnold lost the
argument and his group received very little credit in the report to Congress. Arnold was about to
proceed with his own plans until the Massachusetts Committee of Safety placed him under the
command of Colonel Benjamin Hinman. Arnold was infuriated; therefore, he dismissed his troops
and turned in his resignation as a Massachusetts Militia Colonel.
When Arnold was heading home to Connecticut, he met Major General Philip Schuyler of the
Continental Army and urged Arnold to take Canada. Major General Schuyler then developed a plan
to take Fort St. Johns to capture Montreal. After hearing Schuyler's plan, Arnold proposed a plan
that another force would attack Quebec in concert with the

The Success Of Martin Luther King Jr.
There were many great leaders of the civil rights movement. Just a few are Martin Luther King Jr.,
Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and Andrew Goodman. These people helped make the civil rights
movement become a reality and a success. These people risked and sometimes lost their lives in the
name of freedom and equality. Martin Luther King Jr. is remembered famously for his speeches
during the civil rights movement, including the famous "I have a dream" speech, and "Letter from
Birmingham Jail." Martin Luther was born January 15 1929 as Michael Luther King Jr., which was
later as we all know changed to Martin. He came from a long line of pastors. From 1960 to the time
he died, he was a co– pastor at Ebenezer baptist church in Atlanta Georgia. He received a B. A.
degree in 1948 from Morehouse College. He studied at Crozer Theological Seminary in
Pennsylvania for three years. While there he was selected to be President of a predominantly white
senior class and was awarded B. D. in 1951. He studied at Boston University for two years receiving
his degree in 1955. In Boston he married his wife, Coretta Scott. He had two sons and two
daughters. In 1954 he became a member of the National Association for the Advancement of colored
people. He then became the first colored man to lead a nonviolent demonstration. During the
boycott, King was arrested, his home was bombed, and he was subjected to personal abuse. In the

Why Iceland Is Considered One Of The Safest Countries
On Earth there are one hundred ninety–five countries, and they are very diverse. There are hundreds,
if not thousands of religions in the world. Many countries have the same religion but there can be a
major difference between them. Religion is not the only difference between countries, including
food, laws, healthcare, cultural beliefs, weather, and the list goes on and on. There is no difference
when it comes to comparing the community in my home town, Akureyri, and Faulkner's community.
When I came to Faulkner I got a shock, and I know now why Iceland is considered one of the safest
countries in the world.
In Iceland the main religion is Christianity. The population of three hundred thirty thousand, divides
up in to, 80% Christianity and 20% that have other religion, or are atheist. According to a survey
from 2010, the average Icelander goes to church four times every year. Counting every time they go
to a funeral, wedding, confirmation and baptism. At Faulkner University I would say that at least
one–third of students here go to church every Sunday. Icelandic education system is put up so that
every child learns about Christianity. Addition to that they have to learn the foundation of main
religions in the world; Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. In Iceland an ethics class is
mandatory, we learn that there is nothing that says that we are any better than the rest of the world.
Nothing says that our believes, and culture is more correct than in other countries.

businesses that have made a greater impact on the city than Marshall Field 's. Before there was a

Analysis Of The March By John Lewis
The graphic novel trilogy, The March, tells a series of events that happen in John Lewis's life for the
better and for the worse. Throughout the books, he is faced with challenges that test his ability to
stay true to his beliefs. When Lewis was a child, he received his first Bible from his uncle which
was what sparked his heavy faith in God. During his spiritual journey, he began to listen to the
teachings of MLK Jr. who impacted his life greatly. Lewis became the SNCC's newest executive
coordinating committee which opened his eyes to all the violence that was really apparent at the
time. John Lewis, even from a very young age wanted to become a preacher. "I'll never forget my

He applied the principles of the church to what was happening now, today. It was called the social
gospel... and I felt like he was preaching directly to me." (Lewis and Aydin 1:56). MLK Jr. sparked
John Lewis's love to fight for what's right to him personally, for example, his acceptance into Troy
State. "But if you want to go, we'll help... we'll raise the money to file those suites, and we'll support
you all the way. But you must keep in mind... your parents could lose their jobs. Your family home
could be bombed or burned." (Lewis and Aydin 1:71). He and MLK Jr. worked on many projects
together as it was in both of their interests. Lewis became very involved with non–violent protesting
and everything MLK Jr. introduced him to. Everything the two of them did was always associated
with the teachings of Christ. "His words liberated me. I thought this is it... this is the way out."
(Lewis and Aydin 1:78). MLK Jr. was in charge of a group called SNCC. In that group, he dealt with
the religious aspects of the racism in the country. John Lawson was asked to become head of the
executive coordinating committee which meant he would be even more involved in the group. "I
saw myself as a doer. I never had any thoughts of being chairman... and I was elected chairman of
SNCC." (Lewis and Aydin 2:142). He went to campaign after campaign and gathered the knowledge
that things were only getting more and more violent. "The black masses are restless, Mr. President...

1965 Voting Rights Act
I think there were many events that helped the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act to pass some I
would not characterize as fortunate.
I would point out that Television was now in people's homes, news came more instantaneous than
before, the death of a young black man named Jimmie Lee Jackson's, and Bloody Sunday.
The first event that leads us to Selma is the encounter with Sheriff Jim Clark who on the town hall
steps stops blacks from entering the building thus not allowing them to register to vote. This event
leads the Sheriff to club a black man on the steps of city hall making him fall down and what
appears to be him now unconscious on the ground. This was all filmed by a news organization.

And so there was a debate in King's circle. Should they go forward they might encounter again what
had been encountered in Marion. And King's advisors were divided. Some said, "Yes, let's go

Here we see the irony of men's decisions the decision to march by King his uncertain feelings about
the march and that of Johnson also not wanting the event to take place. This is why I believe the
Selma march was a major change for the civil rights movement as a whole. It galvanized most
American of the plight of the African American in the south. This also gave government official
some courage to vote for this type of legislation.
The march its self was peaceful on the side of those marching however the police where by no
means peaceful or respectful of the marches. Again here television power is seen the new crews
managed to record the event as it unfolds and get it back to New York were its broadcasted and now

Black Seamstress : Rosa Parks And The Civil Rights Movement

The leaders of the local black community organized a bus boycott that began the day Parks was

The Controversy Of Race And Authority
Has one ever felt disheartened watching the news and the headlines says that there was another
minority victim in an officer related shooting? Has one ever wondered why race versus authority is
such a huge problem? Has one ever asked how did society get this far as to physically harming law
enforcement? The answer is the media has allowed it to get this far. Race relations and authority has
been a deep rooted problem since the founding of this nation. By enslaving Africans and other
ethnicities, wealthy white forced them to long hard toils under the sun. Fast forward to the middle

The 1950's were a time in which televised news sources were not as frequent and plentiful as they

of life determined in large part by whites who virtually monopolized state power and used that
power to subjugate blacks. (Kennedy)" This is what minorities went through in the beautiful state of
Alabama. The media effectively allowed the visual representation of what was happening in
Montgomery at the time. Of course, there were some bias because of the majority white journalists
at the time, but it was difficult to state anything other than the truth with video evidence and picture
evidence proving the reality. Media is such a privilege in

The Trials And Tribulations Between The March Trilogy...
The Trials and Tribulations between the March Trilogy Books and the Movie Selma As Martin
Luther King, Jr. once said, "The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart of the
oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them new
self–respect; it calls up resources of strength and courage they did not know they had". (King) The
conflicts met between the Civil Rights Movement protesters and the white people of the South were
incredibly gruesome. While peace and equality for African Americans was the driving force of the
protests, violence and inhuman resistance was the force of the white people. In the March Trilogy

Lewis and Hosea Williams led the marchers. As they were walking across the bridge, Williams
asked Lewis, "Can you swim?" (Lewis and Aydin 3:197) as if to insinuate that going over the bridge
may be what was to come, not knowing what they were to face at the end of the bridge. Where a
crowd of resisters was waiting for them. Even though the marchers faced violent opposition and met
with conflict, they continued their demonstrations. The books and the movie displayed controversy
throughout. One example is during the first attempt to cross the bridge, when the marchers were met
by the Alabama State Troopers. It went very dark, very quick, as the troopers barged towards them,
making this day known as "Bloody Sunday", March 7, 1965. When asked for his comments in the
movie by the press after the merciless attack on the marchers, King says "While rageful violence
continues towards the unarmed people of Selma, while they are assaulted with tear gas and batons
like enemy in a war, no citizen of this country can call themselves blameless, for we all bear a
responsibility for our fellow man. I am appealing to men and women of God and goodwill
everywhere, white, black and otherwise. If you believe all are created equal, come to Selma. Join us.

American Revolution: Aaron Burr
Aaron Burr contributed to the American Revolution by being George Washington's aide in the
Continental Army. He graduated from the New Jersey College, or what is now known as Princeton
University, at age 17 and used his intelligence to help Washington in the war. Also, he joined the
Continental Army in 1775 and soon had distinguished himself during the Patriot attack on Quebec.
He is credited with trying to evacuate the body of General Richard Montgomery who was killed in
action. Later after the war, he defeated Alexander Hamilton's father–in–law in a race for Senate,
which made Alexander angry and caused him to turn on him. He also served as a state attorney in
1790, lost against Jefferson in a race for vice presidency due to Alexander's actions in 1796, and
eventually returned to the New York Assembly.
Aaron was one of the most brilliant graduates to come from New Jersey College, or what is now
known as Princeton University. He at first went to college for theology at the age 13, but then later
changed his career to studying law as he got older. He then joined the Continental Army as an
officer/Washington's aide and used his high intelligence to help during his time in the war. He led a
300–mile trek taking part in the Battle of Quebec; he to distinguished himself on the battlefield.

The Civil Rights Movement : The New York Times Newspaper...
In 1960 the Civil Rights Movement was beginning to gain a lot strength. Many civil rights leaders
put a full–page ad in the New York Times newspaper company. The ad was to raise money to help
civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King, Jr. There were sixty popular
Americans who signed it. The ad put in the paper was describing how " an unprecedented wave of
terror" was rising with police actions against peaceful demonstrators in Montgomery,
Alabama. The ad was mostly accurate, but a few of the charges in it were not true. An example is
that the ad said police "ringed" a college campus where many protesters were, but this charge was
completely exaggerated. The ad also read the false statement: "When the entire student body

The background to New York Times v. Sullivan is pretty complex and has a lot to it. The city of
Montgomery, Alabama, was already considered to be in civic stress when The New York
Times published an ad by the name of "Heed Their Rising Voices" on March 29, 1960. February
25, about 35 students from the Alabama State College, which was an all–black school, were buying
food in a snack bar in the basement of the Montgomery County Courthouse. They were taken into
custody and arrested. The day after the arrest Governor John Patterson, who was once the officio
chairman for the state board of education, demanded for the expulsion of the African
American students from the public college. Two days after the expulsion almost all of the 800
students that attended Alabama State marched to the state capitol to protest against Patterson's
actions with the students. While state and Montgomery police stood by, members of the Ku Klux
Klan wielding baseball bats assaulted the students of the college. The attack was unpunished even
though the Montgomery Advertiser produced and printed pictures of the incident, with several
clearly identified members. (Urofsky pg. 2)

Beliefs And Traditions Of Those Who Came Before Me
Here is why it is important to know the beliefs and traditions of those who came before us, and what
could happen if we ignore it .
When you know what happened in the past with your family, you won't have to make the same
mistakes they did, and if you do know and find a better solution. When you know what happened in
the past with your family you can make sure your other family members and friends know so they
don't make the same mistakes, and you're being a good person.
When you know the beliefs and traditions of your family, you can continue them so the next
generation knows, and you keep the family going.

Rosa Parks And The Freedom Movement Essay
Segregation is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other or thing or being
set apart. Segregation started in 1867 . Segregation is hard to deal with. At this time African
Americans did not have as much freedom as they do now. They had to basically walk around on
eggs shells because if they did not it could have got them into big trouble. They did not have any
rights they would be taken to prison for a simple thing of standing up for the right that they "were
born" with. A person who had a lot to do with the change of that time is Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was
born February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her full name Rosa Louise McCauley. Her mother a
teacher and her father was a carpenter. At the age of 2 years old she was baptized which led to her
growing up a devoted member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rosa grew up a sick
child. She used Christian hymns to comfort her. At a young age she would memorize bible verses
and quote them. "God is everything to me" Rosa grew up in the center of segregation in the south

Analytical Essay On The Movie Selma
The United States of America, a country viewed by many as glorious and opportunistic, endured
moments in history that shall never be forgotten. Since the beginning of the Civil War in the 1800s,
the act to end slavery was gruesome and horrifying. A war was fought between the free and slave
states to eradicate slavery in the country for ever. In the year 1865, slavery was abolished,
nonetheless, the evil in many Confederate cities and states was still alive. Selma is a breath–taking
movie about Martin Luther King Jr. and his fight against this evil. With death threats sent to his
home, and his own followers beaten by troopers, Dr. King never backed down. Having the right to
vote is exceedingly vital in having a voice in the government, and the kinds of laws and bills that
should be passed. In the beginning of this movie, an African American woman prepares her
documents to be allowed to vote. When she hands the documents to the white worker, he begins
questioning the woman. His main incentive is simply not give her the right to vote. The movie states
that fifty percent of Selma is African American, however, merely two percent are allowed to vote. It
is the power held by white officials that denied their vote. Many people took to the streets to
peacefully protests this injustice and inequality that loomed in the system. As stated both in the
movie and the New York Review article, people have suffered and died for the right to vote. For
instance, a young man named Jimmie

Small Change By Malcolm Gladwell

Educates readers about Civil Rights movement events from the past, and the effects of social media
in today's time. Technology has evolved over the years, giving birth to social media. Social media is
wonderful for a lot of things, but is social media an effective resource for activism? In the article,
Gladwell starts off by telling the story about four friends. Their names were David Richmond,
Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair, and Joseph McNeil. The four friends were freshmen of North
Carolina A&T a black college located in Greensboro. February 1, 1960 at approximately 4:30pm the
four college students went to lunch at Woolworths. Woolworth was located in downtown
Greensboro. There scenery inside the diner was a L shaped counter that could set up to 60 people
with a stand up snack bar at the end. The bar was for the whites and the snack bar was for the
blacks. The four friends set at the counter and Ezell Blair asked the waitress for a cup of coffee. The
waitress replied "we don't serve negroes here". This statement started a civil rights movement. The
four students could of just left and found somewhere else to have lunch, but instead they returned on
the next day with Twenty–seven men and four women. They began to protest and preform a sit–in at
the diner. On the third day the number of protesters moved up to eighty people. The fourth day the

Del was worried about Rich removing him from his will taking with it the only life he knew and
treasured. He figured the only way to fix the problem was to kill. (People nowadays!) Anyway, he
had been learning and mastering the skill of mind control and decided to test it out on a fellow who
would be the least likely to be suspected. Dee! During this time, a meeting had been occurring
between Hugh, Justin, and Dee. Dee needed help to debug the system but what Justin planned was
to steal the whole program. Justin went to talk to Rita at the same time that Dee took a 'bathroom
break'. She made sure that H.T. was preoccupied and put on gloves to leave no trace behind. Mind
you, she was being manipulated by Del the whole time. Before the murder, Rita had drugged Rich
so that Justin was able to steal the program. Her reason for betrayal was because he had been the one
to break it off, leaving her the one with hurt feelings. I guess that never settles well with ferocious
sirens like her. Dee came in soon after Rita and finished up the job by strangling Rich with a mouse
cord and punching the daylight out of him. She drops the gloves underneath Hugh's bed and returns
to the meeting. It continues until everyone has returned to their places. Dee, having lost all memory
of her actions goes to ask a question from Rich. She screams and everyone runs over. And that's
where my story begins. It was quite hard to piece together the parts but when it is done, it is
refreshing! So when are those reporters going to show

For the parent/s of the child who now owns Richard III: a children's novel.
I decided to convert Shakespeare's Richard III into a children's book due to how much Shakespeare's
Richard intrigues me and the moral lessons that I believe a child can learn from his story.
In Shakespeare's play, Richard is portrayed as a Machiavel, he is unapologetically manipulative yet
a smooth–talker with a sense of humour. This combination of characteristics, along with
Shakespeare's use of asides to make the audience confidants to Richard's scheming, evokes an

reason for the Americans winning the war because it kept them going through there up and downs.

really was. Benedict Arnold was born on January 14,1741 in Norwich, Connecticut. His ancestors

Arnold was a brilliant leader in the continental army, leading to many victories for the United States.
His uncommon bravery had really showed a great impression on all the soldiers, boosting their
morals even more. "Arnold dedicated himself to the Revolutionary cause, sacrificing family life,
health, and financial well–being for a conflict that left him physically crippled, sullied by false
accusations, and profoundly alienated from the American cause of liberty." Arnold can be
considered one of the best American Generals during the fight for independence. He was very well
known for that and respected. Though congress would never give him his deserved promotions.
Now as we learn about Arnold, we are never taught of what he did but instead of his treasury.
Arnold really didn't turn on his country but the country had turned on him for not noticing his great
achievements for the fight for independence. The only honor that was rewarded to Arnold was the

obtain my college degree. I have had many conversations about attending college. Some
conversations being very helpful and persuasive, some being very negative and nerve wrecking. The
school that I chose to attend in the end was Alabama State University. I promised myself that this

Summary Of The Battle Of Quebec By Benedict Arnold
The battle of Quebec during 1775 is one of the many battles that took place during the American
Revolution. It is a famous battle that at the time seemed to diminish the hopes of the Americans to
force Britain out of America. The American rebels were split into two armies that were to head up
from opposite sides of the Montreal/Quebec area and force the British out of that area so they could
take over. The main reason the Americans wanted to gain control of this area was in hope that the
French Canadians would join the American revolution, and help send the British back across the
Atlantic Ocean. Britain could not hang onto Montreal, but they easily hung onto Quebec and they
forced the American army to back off and after that night, the American forces never made an effort
to try to take control of that area again. One man who was part of the American forces at that point
was Benedict Arnold. He is known as the biggest traitor in American history, but he is an important
face of the American Revolution at this time. "In 1780, Arnold deflected to the British, and his
change from Patriot to traitor is one of the most compelling narratives in American history." His
journey through the forests of Maine leading up to the battle of Quebec is a story to behold and
when one begins to understand the story of the journey, then they will realize that the long and hard
trip to the destination is a huge contributor to the reason why the rebels lost that battle. In April that

the protests, violence and inhuman resistance was the force for the white people. In the March

Where a crowd of resisters were waiting for them. Even though the marchers faced violent
opposition and met with conflict, they continued their protests. The books and the movie displayed
conflict throughout. One example is during the first attempt to cross the bridge, when the marchers
were met by the Alabama State Troopers. It went very dark, very quick, as the troopers barged
towards them, making this day known as "Bloody Sunday", March 7, 1965. When asked for his
comments in the movie by the press after the brutal attack on the marchers, King says "While
rageful violence continues towards the unarmed people of Selma, while they are assaulted with tear
gas and batons like enemy in a war, no citizen of this country can call themselves blameless, for we
all bear a responsibility for our fellow man. I am appealing to men and women of God and goodwill
everywhere, white, black and otherwise. If you believe all are created equal, come to Selma. Join us.
Join our march against injustice and inhumanity. We need you to stand with us". The second attempt
to cross the bridge on March 9, 1965 brought clergy, men, and women from all over to join. But
faced conflict as well, this time between Martin Luther King Jr, and the marchers themselves.
However, there was a major difference regarding this attempt to cross, between the books and the
movie. In the books, the marchers were met on the bridge by a Federal Official who

Selma Book Vs Movie Essay
As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the
heart of the oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It
gives them new self–respect; it calls up resources of strength and courage they did not know they
had". (King) The conflicts met between the Civil Rights Movement protesters and the white people
of the South were incredibly gruesome. While peace and equality for African Americans was the
driving force of the protests, violence and inhuman resistance was the force of the white people. In
the March Trilogy Books, written by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin, and in the movie Selma,
written by Paul Webb and directed by Ava DuVernay, we are given a ... Show more content on

Twenty–one children were injured and four young girls lost their lives that day. [Figure 1]
Lewis asked, "How could our quest for human dignity spawn such evil?" (3:16). Another example
that they both showed in common was the tension portrayed at the time of the first attempt to march
across the Edmond Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. Lewis and Hosea Williams led the marchers.
As they were walking across the bridge, Williams asked Lewis, "Can you swim?" (Lewis and Aydin
3:197) as if to insinuate that going over the bridge may be what was to come, not knowing what they
were to face at the end of the bridge. Where a crowd of resisters was waiting for them. Even though
the marchers faced violent opposition and met with conflict, they continued their demonstrations.
The books and the movie displayed controversy throughout. One example is during the first attempt
to cross the bridge, when the marchers were met by the Alabama State Troopers. It went very dark,
very quick, as the troopers barged towards them, making this day known as "Bloody Sunday",
March 7, 1965. When asked for his comments in the movie by the press after the merciless attack on
the marchers, King says "While rageful violence continues towards the unarmed people of Selma,
while they are assaulted with tear gas and batons like enemy in a war, no citizen of this country can
call themselves blameless, for we all bear a responsibility for our fellow man. I am appealing to men

Interview 1
Wall Street Journal Reporter: Calvin Lee
Sarah Herbert and spouse, Woodson (Couple)
Montgomery Resident
White Ethnicity
Attitude towards the Boycott: FOR
Famous for supporting the blacks, despite the tension between the two ethnicities and the majority
attitude of the whites opposing the boycott. Their lives were at total risk, from ostracism to threats
on their loves.
INTERVIEWER: Mr and Mrs Herbert, can you please tell us why you chose to be involved in the
Boycott?
SARAH HERBERT: "Well firstly, ethnicity didn't matter to me and my late husband, Woodson. We
both opposed the Jim Crow Laws, which had stood for 79 years since 1876. We both truly wanted
equality for those Negros, especially as we had ones close to us, e.g our house maids. We didn't
understand why even when they were paying the same amount as us whites to ride on the buses that
they had to get off the bus, enter through the rear exit and sit at the back. They deserved to have
equal access to any part of the bus they wanted. It just seemed bizarre and it made them look
inferior. During the boycott, when the community taxi effort by the 18 negro owned bus companies
in Montgomery was halted by the council for it's 'too low' fares of 10¢ instead of the usual 45¢, the
blacks began their own carpooling initiative to help each other get around. There were around 300
cars used at the time for this task, and I decided along with my neighbour and a few other of my
white friends that if we were going to

Who Is Benedict Arnold A Traitor
Desiring recognition and the feeling of pride brings a fullness in life so if you were to not being
given the proper recognition, if you were utterly ignored, if you were tossed aside and others
received credit for your very own work, is if you were faced to choose between taking the high road
and becoming a better human being or would you act out in vengeance? Benedict Arnold's historical
acclaim is often associated with the traitor activity, by examining the experiences with Arnold,
Americans are able to appreciate his leadership prior to his betrayal; his character is really revealed
through his past and all that he accomplished for his beloved country. Benedict Arnold sacrificed a
lot for the greater good of the American people. Arnold is not given recognition for all of the
victories that he had been involved in and at a time during a promotion he gets passed up by low
ranking, less talented, less dedicated men than himself. "Major General Horatio Gates took credit for
the victory. As if that weren't enough of an insult, Congress had promoted five officers–all Arnold's
juniors and most far less talented–over him. Even back then politics was part of the equation as
Congress ignored Washington's consistent backing and praise for Arnold, whom he admired as a
fierce soldier." (Beck 105). Also, "Benedict Arnold was a hero before he turned traitor. And just how
he turned is a complicated story. Arnold made his name in upstate New York, fighting for control of

Rosa Parks's Contribution To The Civil Rights Movement
Rosa Parks was an important part of history because she stood up for something she thought was
right. If it would not have been for her contributions of the civil rights movements there would
probably still be racism going on a lot right now. She was born on February 4, 1913 Tuskegee,
Alabama her parent's names were Leona McCauley (Mother) James McCauley (Father) She went to
school at Highlander Folk School Montgomery, Industrial school for black girls (dropped out
because her grandmother got ill), and Alabama state college for black women. She was influenced
as a kid and Rosa Parks whole childhood had been influenced by segregation. As a young child her
grandmother used to tell her about how once white colored people were kind and nice to her ...

Jackie robinson was court martialed when he refused to give up his seat to a white army officer in
fort hood Texas and Rosa Parks was there to see it happen. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to
a white man and afterwards was arrested, after that event happened there was a boycott held. Then
when she got out of jail she went throughout the country holding protest's and fundraisers to gain
money for the boycott. She went into the field of secretary by refusing to give up her seat to a white
man. She faced racial comments by white people and getting racist remarks everywhere and maybe
even get stuff thrown at her. For what she went through as a child she thought it was wrong to be
treated this bad just because your a differennt color. She said her lifelong company with fear as the
reason for her common fearlessness in deciding to show her firm opinion during the bus boycott.
Four days after the Rosa Parks arrest African Americans boycotted the Montgomery bus. In the year
of the boycott, Rosa Parks traveled around the world raising awareness and funds for the boycott.

The Rebellious Life Of Rosa Parks

  • 1. The Rebellious Life Of Rosa Parks I. Jim Crow was a big issue during Rosa Parks' life. A. What were Jim Crow Laws? 1. Jim Crow Laws are define by the Dictionary.Reference As the "practice or policy of segregating or discriminating against blacks, against public places, public vehicles, or employment." 2. Now what was exactly bad about the Laws in the first place? How could you imagine what life was like for African American people during the early 20th Century during Rosa Parks' time? B. Why were the laws wrong? 1. According to an article on the site U–S–History.com, Jim Crow Laws were made to have "separate but equal" treatment to blacks. Though the treatment was not equal in anyway. They were treated inferior in many ways. 2. The Montgomery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rosa Parks help bring together the movement and helped concentrate it as well. 1. The last document about the arrest records also speaks on what happened shortly after her arrest. Now it says "Mrs. Parks was active in the local National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), serving as secretary to E.D. Nixon, president of the Montgomery chapter." Now because of her position in the NAACP, the arrest was heard by most of the members. It also states Martin Luther King Jr came to join in with the movement as well. 2. Now Martin Luther King later on became one of the most important figures of the Civil Rights Movement and originally he came to help after hearing Parks was arrested. Rosa Parks had an interview telling how the public response was. She stated "It was put in the paper that I had been arrested." She then spoke on the fact that once people found out the leader of the NAACP E.D. Nixon held a meeting at a church, which King was the Pastor of. Their way of fighting back Parks said was to, 4 days after her arrest, "stay off in large numbers and did not ride the bus" That then spark the rest of the Civil Rights movement and allowed for people to end segregation, not only on the bus, but in everything throughout the United ... This is the story of Billy Cheeseburger. I grew up in Southern Alabama as a slave to an extremely rude owner with my mother in the 1840s. We tried escaping hundreds of times, but we always managed a way to get caught. Due to our relentless efforts in trying to escape, we would get whipped extremely hard, but I didn't care as long as I was with my momma I knew that I was safe. Then that terrible day happened our owner informed us there was a slave auction in Montgomery Alabama, 10 miles away from our home in Richmond, Alabama. Like any other greedy white man, our owner came to my momma and told her that she was going to be auctioned for money. Oh how much I cried that day. That night I tried convincing my mother to escape in the morning and go to Fort Washington which was right across Montgomery but my momma just wouldn't budge. She said that "They will find me and try and sell me to another owner far away from you and you know yo momma can't run fast". To make me happy, my momma told me that she was just going to be gone for a few weeks and that she will eventually come back and that the two of us will escape to Fort Washington. The Decision I went with my momma to the auction where there were a lot of white men shouting about how much money they would spend for a certain slave. • 5. Benedict Arnold Motivation Benedict Arnold, "the most recognized name in American History 101" (Kullman, 2015), has become tantamount with the word traitor. Nowadays, Benedict Arnold has become infamous for his treacherous plot of giving West Point to the Redcoats, but I like to believe that most people overlook his paramount embroilment in the early stages of the Revolutionary War and the reasons that he decided to betray the United States. Arnold's decision wasn't one dimensional. In other words, many factors were prevalent during the time of his attempt at treason that could have tipped him into the idea of betraying America. Born on January 14, 1741 in Norwich, Connecticut, Benedict Arnold appeared to most as an interesting figure. According to Notable Biographies (n.d.), "Arnold was a risk–taker who looked for outlets for his energetic and impulsive (taking action before thinking things through) nature. He volunteered for the French and Indian War (1754–63), a war fought between France and England in America for control of the colonial lands, but at eighteen he deserted in order to be with his mother, who was dying." Arnold's impulsive behavior and his aptitude for war continued to be prevalent in his life, but one thing that haunted his childhood would have to be death, seeing that three of his siblings and both his parents died. Arnold's mother passed away in 1759. Secondly, Arnold's father "proved to be a drunkard; only after [Benedict Arnold] moved to New Haven could he begin to free himself ... • 7. Story Of An Hour Satire There is immense power in well–written satire: it can make its audience laugh with witticisms rooted in truths, even make them think differently about any subject, mundane or critical. Bad satire, however, emphasizes all the wrong parts: it gets its facts wrong, goes off track, and closes its audience's minds to any new way of thinking it might present. Li Chongyue and Wang Lihua's article would be bad satire, a bad argument. Chongyue and Lihua's "A Caricature of an Ungrateful and Unfaithful Wife" distorts Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" through imaginative exaggeration of character interaction, emotional ignorance, and its simplification of the characters and the text. Firstly, there is no evidence in the text of "The Story of an Hour" to suggest that Louise Mallard has been at all unfaithful to her husband. One sentence within the article suggests that some readers have sensed an extramarital affair–or an attempted one–between Mrs. Mallard and Richards, which, given its inclusion, the authors appear to agree with (Chongyue and Lihua). However, Richards is mentioned by name in the text of the short story three times: at the beginning when he confirmed the news of Brently Mallard's death, toward the end when he awaited Josephine and Louise at the bottom of the staircase, and when he tries to block Louise from seeing Brently Mallard alive as he walks in the door (Chopin). He does not even truly interact with Louise: he is described as "near her" when she learns of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Analysis Of I Have A Dream Speech The year was 1963, as the chaos of segregation was unfolding in the Southern states, Governor George C. Wallace and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, are at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement. In the beginning of the year, Governor Wallace will be addressing his constituents with his well– known, "Segregation Now, Segregation Forever" speech. Nevertheless, it will be seven months later, that Dr. King will convey his message in his famous, "I Have a Dream" speech. Individually, they deliver historical speeches concerning civil rights, however, the dialogue encompasses completely different messages. Comparatively, the two speeches will be presented side by side using Kairos, Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. . With that in mind, these two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. King and Governor Wallace, both use strong evidence to strengthen their credibility and appeal to Ethos. Governor Wallace attended the University of Alabama and graduated with a law degree, which soon after he joined the US Army Air Corp. and was involved in a combat mission over Japan. Upon returning, he became an Assistant States Attorney, and later a judge of the Third Judicial Circuit of Alabama. George C. Wallace, campaigned for the Governor's seat in Alabama and much to his dismay, he lost to his opponent who was a segregationist. Be that as it may, four years later his decision was to run again, but this time he was endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan, who helped him obtain the Governorship. Martin Luther King Jr., was from a middle–class family with strong Baptist beliefs. Surprisingly, at the young age of 15, he attended Morehouse College and later enter Boston University. Dr. King obtained his pastoral and doctorate degrees, and appeared that he followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and father to become a Baptist Pastor. ART CRITICISM PAPER ART CRITICISM PAPER "The Grafin von Schonfeld with her Daughter" by Elizabeth Louise Vigee–LeBrun In the University Of Arizona Museum Of Art, the Pfeiffer Gallery is displaying many art pieces of oil on canvas paintings. These paintings are mostly portraits of people, both famous and not. They are painted by a variety of artists of European decent and American decent between the mid 1700's and the early 1900's. The painting by Elizabeth Louise Vigee–Lebrun caught my eye and drew me in to look closely at its composition. "The Grafin von Scholfeld with her Daughter" is oil on canvas art piece painted in 1793. The little girl's dress gives the texture of lightness and seems like airy fabric that would be thin and translucent. The time in this piece is very accurate of the late 1700's and when viewing it, the time seems classic. The emphasis of this piece is mainly the mother and the daughter, however when looking at them you are drawn into looking at their realistic eyes. The eyes seem like the focal point which draws the viewer in to the picture. The relationship in the painting between the mother and daughter give it a definite asymmetrical balance and maybe a little radial balance. A radial balance because of their eyes being the central focus, then the faces, then the holding of each other, then where they are placed on the canvas, and then the bench and the landscape. The colors used by the painter, also creates balance with in the picture. The wine colored dress of the mother, red sash of the daughter's dress, ruby lips, and the rosy cheeks give a warm feeling to the central focus of the mother and daughter. The cool color of the sky is the same as the women's eyes as well as the trees and green on the mother's dress. These balances give unity or a unifying feeling to the painting, especially between the mother and daughter. The idea of this piece is to show the connection between mother and daughter being painted. It shows the time and the classic style of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Capture of Fort Ticonderoga: Benedict Arnold Capture of Fort Ticonderoga Prior to the American Revolution, Benedict Arnold was a captain in the Governor's Second Company of Guards. When hearing about the battles of Lexington and Concord, Arnold and his men became eager for action. They marched off to Cambridge to ask for the commission of the Massachusetts Committee of Safety to capture Fort Ticonderoga. Along the way, Arnold's group met up with Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys. Arnold and Allen disputed about who was in total command but Arnold's attempt to take command was futile so he accompanied the Green Mountain Boys with Allen as leader. On May 10th, the two groups successfully captured the fort by surprising the British Garrison. After the capture of the fort, another dispute had risen about who gets credit. Arnold lost the argument and his group received very little credit in the report to Congress. Arnold was about to proceed with his own plans until the Massachusetts Committee of Safety placed him under the command of Colonel Benjamin Hinman. Arnold was infuriated; therefore, he dismissed his troops and turned in his resignation as a Massachusetts Militia Colonel. When Arnold was heading home to Connecticut, he met Major General Philip Schuyler of the Continental Army and urged Arnold to take Canada. Major General Schuyler then developed a plan to take Fort St. Johns to capture Montreal. There are hundreds, if not thousands of religions in the world. Many countries have the same religion but there can be a major difference between them. Religion is not the only difference between countries, including food, laws, healthcare, cultural beliefs, weather, and the list goes on and on. There is no difference when it comes to comparing the community in my home town, Akureyri, and Faulkner's community. When I came to Faulkner I got a shock, and I know now why Iceland is considered one of the safest countries in the world. In Iceland the main religion is Christianity. The population of three hundred thirty thousand, divides up in to, 80% Christianity and 20% that have other religion, or are atheist. According to a survey from 2010, the average Icelander goes to church four times every year. Counting every time they go to a funeral, wedding, confirmation and baptism. At Faulkner University I would say that at least one–third of students here go to church every Sunday. Icelandic education system is put up so that every child learns about Christianity. Addition to that they have to learn the foundation of main religions in the world; Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. In Iceland an ethics class is mandatory, we learn that there is nothing that says that we are any better than the rest of the world. Nothing says that our believes, and culture is more correct than in other countries. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Analysis Of The March By John Lewis The graphic novel trilogy, The March, tells a series of events that happen in John Lewis's life for the better and for the worse. Throughout the books, he is faced with challenges that test his ability to stay true to his beliefs. When Lewis was a child, he received his first Bible from his uncle which was what sparked his heavy faith in God. During his spiritual journey, he began to listen to the teachings of MLK Jr. who impacted his life greatly. Lewis became the SNCC's newest executive coordinating committee which opened his eyes to all the violence that was really apparent at the time. He applied the principles of the church to what was happening now, today. It was called the social gospel... and I felt like he was preaching directly to me." (Lewis and Aydin 1:56). MLK Jr. sparked John Lewis's love to fight for what's right to him personally, for example, his acceptance into Troy State. "But if you want to go, we'll help... we'll raise the money to file those suites, and we'll support you all the way. But you must keep in mind... your parents could lose their jobs. Your family home could be bombed or burned." (Lewis and Aydin 1:71). He and MLK Jr. worked on many projects together as it was in both of their interests. Lewis became very involved with non–violent protesting and everything MLK Jr. introduced him to. Everything the two of them did was always associated with the teachings of Christ. "His words liberated me. I thought this is it... this is the way out." (Lewis and Aydin 1:78). MLK Jr. was in charge of a group called SNCC. In that group, he dealt with the religious aspects of the racism in the country. John Lawson was asked to become head of the executive coordinating committee which meant he would be even more involved in the group. "I saw myself as a doer. I never had any thoughts of being chairman... and I was elected chairman of SNCC." (Lewis and Aydin 2:142). I would point out that Television was now in people's homes, news came more instantaneous than before, the death of a young black man named Jimmie Lee Jackson's, and Bloody Sunday. The first event that leads us to Selma is the encounter with Sheriff Jim Clark who on the town hall steps stops blacks from entering the building thus not allowing them to register to vote. • 47. Rosa Parks And The Freedom Movement Essay Segregation is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other or thing or being set apart. Segregation started in 1867 . Segregation is hard to deal with. At this time African Americans did not have as much freedom as they do now. They had to basically walk around on eggs shells because if they did not it could have got them into big trouble. They did not have any rights they would be taken to prison for a simple thing of standing up for the right that they "were born" with. A person who had a lot to do with the change of that time is Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was born February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her full name Rosa Louise McCauley. Her mother a teacher and her father was a carpenter. At the age of 2 years old she was baptized which led to her growing up a devoted member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rosa grew up a sick child. She used Christian hymns to comfort her. At a young age she would memorize bible verses and quote them. "God is everything to me" Rosa grew up in the center of segregation in the south things were different for blacks and whites. • 49. Analytical Essay On The Movie Selma The United States of America, a country viewed by many as glorious and opportunistic, endured moments in history that shall never be forgotten. Since the beginning of the Civil War in the 1800s, the act to end slavery was gruesome and horrifying. A war was fought between the free and slave states to eradicate slavery in the country for ever. In the year 1865, slavery was abolished, nonetheless, the evil in many Confederate cities and states was still alive. Selma is a breath–taking movie about Martin Luther King Jr. and his fight against this evil. With death threats sent to his home, and his own followers beaten by troopers, Dr. King never backed down. Having the right to vote is exceedingly vital in having a voice in the government, and the kinds of laws and bills that should be passed. In the beginning of this movie, an African American woman prepares her documents to be allowed to vote. When she hands the documents to the white worker, he begins questioning the woman. His main incentive is simply not give her the right to vote. The movie states that fifty percent of Selma is African American, however, merely two percent are allowed to vote. It is the power held by white officials that denied their vote. Many people took to the streets to peacefully protests this injustice and inequality that loomed in the system. As stated both in the movie and the New York Review article, people have suffered and died for the right to vote. For instance, a young man named Jimmie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Educates readers about Civil Rights movement events from the past, and the effects of social media in today's time. Technology has evolved over the years, giving birth to social media. Social media is wonderful for a lot of things, but is social media an effective resource for activism? In the article, Gladwell starts off by telling the story about four friends. Their names were David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair, and Joseph McNeil. The four friends were freshmen of North Carolina A&T a black college located in Greensboro. February 1, 1960 at approximately 4:30pm the four college students went to lunch at Woolworths. Woolworth was located in downtown Greensboro. There scenery inside the diner was a L shaped counter that could set up to 60 people with a stand up snack bar at the end. The bar was for the whites and the snack bar was for the blacks. The four friends set at the counter and Ezell Blair asked the waitress for a cup of coffee. The waitress replied "we don't serve negroes here". This statement started a civil rights movement. The four students could of just left and found somewhere else to have lunch, but instead they returned on the next day with Twenty–seven men and four women. They began to protest and preform a sit–in at the diner. On the third day the number of protesters moved up to eighty people. The fourth day the protesters numbered three hundred, including ... Solving the murder of Richard Webster is what's going to determine whether I receive a spotlight in the newspaper. Business has been slow lately so this will help pick it up. Ahead of the interrogation, I gathered data on the victim and each of the suspects. Some background research shows that the Webster Network of co–workers are troubled: Richard, a class A jerk, Hugh, a broken businessman, Rita, in a troublesome relationship, H.T., a misanthrope, Dee, too loyal, Del, a sloth and victim's cousin, Justin, once jailed for computer hacking. I looked on as Del Packard struggled with the police about getting into the car. The people who had gathered around to watch the action asked about what had occurred and how I managed to figure it out. I repeated the story of the murder out loud as I had practiced multiple times before in my head. Del was worried about Rich removing him from his will taking with it the only life he knew and treasured. He figured the only way to fix the problem was to kill. (People nowadays!) Anyway, he had been learning and mastering the skill of mind control and decided to test it out on a fellow who would be the least likely to be suspected. Dee! During this time, a meeting had been occurring between Hugh, Justin, and Dee. Dee needed help to debug the system but what Justin planned was to steal the whole program. Justin went to talk to Rita at the same time that Dee took a 'bathroom break'. She made sure that H.T. was preoccupied and put on gloves to leave no trace behind. Mind you, she was being manipulated by Del the whole time. Before the murder, Rita had drugged Rich so that Justin was able to steal the program. Her reason for betrayal was because he had been the one to break it off, leaving her the one with hurt feelings. I guess that never settles well with ferocious sirens like her. Dee came in soon after Rita and finished up the job by strangling Rich with a mouse cord and punching the daylight out of him. She drops the gloves underneath Hugh's bed and returns to the meeting. It continues until everyone has returned to their places. Dee, having lost all memory of her actions goes to ask a question from Rich. She screams and everyone runs over. And that's where my story begins. It was quite hard to piece together the parts but when it is done, it is refreshing! So when are those reporters going to show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I decided to convert Shakespeare's Richard III into a children's book due to how much Shakespeare's Richard intrigues me and the moral lessons that I believe a child can learn from his story. In Shakespeare's play, Richard is portrayed as a Machiavel, he is unapologetically manipulative yet a smooth–talker with a sense of humour. This combination of characteristics, along with Shakespeare's use of asides to make the audience confidants to Richard's scheming, evokes an attraction to his character which lasts until his murder–filled to–do list becomes seemingly never ending. Moral could be considered a reason for the Americans winning the war because it kept them going through there up and downs. Arnold was a brilliant leader in the continental army, leading to many victories for the United States. His uncommon bravery had really showed a great impression on all the soldiers, boosting their morals even more. "Arnold dedicated himself to the Revolutionary cause, sacrificing family life, health, and financial well–being for a conflict that left him physically crippled, sullied by false accusations, and profoundly alienated from the American cause of liberty." Arnold can be considered one of the best American Generals during the fight for independence. He was very well known for that and respected. Though congress would never give him his deserved promotions. Now as we learn about Arnold, we are never taught of what he did but instead of his treasury. Arnold really didn't turn on his country but the country had turned on him for not noticing his great achievements for the fight for independence. The only honor that was rewarded to Arnold was the "Boot monument" where he had fought the Battle of Saratoga. He wasn't rewarded for his great accomplishment but just rewarded for a wounded leg. Congress though had never motivated Arnold and always picked on him. Arnold was simple; he was a man with great honor who fought for independence and to keep his family name respected. • 68. Summary Of The Battle Of Quebec By Benedict Arnold The battle of Quebec during 1775 is one of the many battles that took place during the American Revolution. It is a famous battle that at the time seemed to diminish the hopes of the Americans to force Britain out of America. The American rebels were split into two armies that were to head up from opposite sides of the Montreal/Quebec area and force the British out of that area so they could take over. The main reason the Americans wanted to gain control of this area was in hope that the French Canadians would join the American revolution, and help send the British back across the Atlantic Ocean. Britain could not hang onto Montreal, but they easily hung onto Quebec and they forced the American army to back off and after that night, the American forces never made an effort to try to take control of that area again. One man who was part of the American forces at that point was Benedict Arnold. He is known as the biggest traitor in American history, but he is an important face of the American Revolution at this time. "In 1780, Arnold deflected to the British, and his change from Patriot to traitor is one of the most compelling narratives in American history." His journey through the forests of Maine leading up to the battle of Quebec is a story to behold and when one begins to understand the story of the journey, then they will realize that the long and hard trip to the destination is a huge contributor to the reason why the rebels lost that battle. Their lives were at total risk, from ostracism to threats on their loves. INTERVIEWER: Mr and Mrs Herbert, can you please tell us why you chose to be involved in the Boycott? SARAH HERBERT: "Well firstly, ethnicity didn't matter to me and my late husband, Woodson. We both opposed the Jim Crow Laws, which had stood for 79 years since 1876. We both truly wanted equality for those Negros, especially as we had ones close to us, e.g our house maids. We didn't understand why even when they were paying the same amount as us whites to ride on the buses that they had to get off the bus, enter through the rear exit and sit at the back. They deserved to have equal access to any part of the bus they wanted. It just seemed bizarre and it made them look inferior. During the boycott, when the community taxi effort by the 18 negro owned bus companies in Montgomery was halted by the council for it's 'too low' fares of 10¢ instead of the usual 45¢, the blacks began their own carpooling initiative to help each other get around. Who Is Benedict Arnold A Traitor Desiring recognition and the feeling of pride brings a fullness in life so if you were to not being given the proper recognition, if you were utterly ignored, if you were tossed aside and others received credit for your very own work, is if you were faced to choose between taking the high road and becoming a better human being or would you act out in vengeance? Benedict Arnold's historical acclaim is often associated with the traitor activity, by examining the experiences with Arnold, Americans are able to appreciate his leadership prior to his betrayal; his character is really revealed through his past and all that he accomplished for his beloved country. Benedict Arnold sacrificed a lot for the greater good of the American people.
