Q7.
1. Evaluation Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you
have learnt in this progression from it to the full product?
2. In our preliminary task we had to make a short clip of
someone entering a room, walking across the room, and
conversing with another person. Within this task, we had
to include match on action, 180 degree rule and shot
reverse shot.
The reason we did this task was to provide us with the
basic rules of film leading up to our opening sequence.
Before I began media studies, I was completely
unaware of these necessary factors, and the preliminary
task taught me them.
3. In terms of sound, my preliminary task was
basic. We used non diagetic music and had
some dialogue. For the dialogue we didn't use
a sound recorder, but the sound on the
camera.
This meant that it was very basic and not as
clear as it would be on a recorder.
We also didn't use any foley sounds as we
didn't realise how important sound really is.
4. When making my opening sequence, a lot of
planning went into it. I had to research the
conventions of my genre, and plan out every
aspect of my sequence, whereas in the
preliminary task we just did what we felt like
doing at the time.
What I have learnt from this is that the more
your idea develops, the better it gets. My
original script is extremely different to my final
outcome.
5. Since making my preliminary task, I have learnt
a lot more concerning the adobe programmes
as well as overall film making experience.
I have learnt to edit alone, making use of colour
correction, cropping, freeze frames, different
speeds etc. and I know that I will continue to
learn more and more.
6. I struggled a lot whilst making my opening
sequence because all of the programmes were
completely new to me, and since my preliminary
task, I dedicated a lot of time to try and teach
myself all the softwares. I have learnt so much
and gained a lot of confidence in this since my
preliminary.
7. Since my preliminary task, I have learnt to:
• plan an opening sequence from scratch
• write a script
• improve camera skills
• edit in premier pro
• successfully use foley sounds
8. Looking at my progress since making my
preliminary task, I can really see a difference. I
know that the more i make films, the better they
will become, however I am excited by the
progress I have already seen. I feel more
confident, and feel that I have improved in all the
aspects mentioned earlier, and that this will
continue to improve in future films.
