11. “I’ve often felt that modern life tends to separate all the ages too much. In the old days, the
children lived with the parents and the grandparents, and the family unit each gave one
another something very valuable. So when we began to develop the idea for this winery, we
thought it should be like a resort, basically a wine wonderland, a park of pleasure where
people of all ages can enjoy the best things in life – food, wine, music, dancing, games,
swimming and performances of all types. A place to celebrate the love of life."
12. “The myth of Virginia Dare always intrigued me, and as a child I remember
the Virginia Dare wine because of the pretty blonde girl on the label and
the 'Say it again, Virginia Dare’ jingle they used to advertise on the radio.”
13. The discoveries of the Greek mathematician Archimedes
nearly 2,000 years ago established laws of physics still
viable today. Francis Coppola’s grandfather Agostino so
greatly admired the intellect and ingenuity of the
mathematician that he gave his first son the same
name.
When Francis Ford Coppola’s grandfather, Agostino, was
a child growing up in the small town of Bernalda in
Southern Italy, he often played among ancient Greek
ruins in nearby Metaponto, where thousands of years
earlier stood a school run by the legendary Greek scholar
Pythagoras — Pitagora in Italian. More than a
mathematician, Pythagoras was also a philosopher who
sought new ways of understanding the world through
mathematics, astronomy, and music theory.
