SNAP IN – IT JUST MIGHT SAVE YOUR LIFE!
Long distance travel and heavy
traffic are typically associated with
the winter holiday season. How we
prepare and combat these two risks is
essential to “arriving alive,”
whatever the destination.
Seatbelts are probably the most
important protective tool you can use
to ensure your safety when driving.
Any time you hop in your car the first
thing you should hear is the “click”
of your seatbelt. This is a sound we
can all live with, as it indicates you
have taken the first step toward NOT
becoming a fatality statistic.
The U.S. Department of
Transportation, National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration outlined
in their 2009 National Occupant
Protection Use Survey Controlled
Intersection Study, that seat belt use
nationwide was 84 percent, a slight
gain from the 2008 use rate of 83
percent. All Sailors and Marines must
fall within that 84 percent!
In FY-10 our Naval service had
a total of five vehicle ejections.
Four involved drivers and one was a
passenger. None of the five survived
to tell the story.
Snap in, Sailors, Marines and
families, it just may save your life!
