1. Menlo Park, CA: Maya Sewald is the new President of the Rotary Club of Menlo Park and
Tom Gibboney is the new President of the Rotary Club of Menlo Park Foundation
Longtime members of the Rotary Club of Menlo Park Maya Sewald and Tom Gibboney began
their terms as president of the club and foundation earlier this month. Ms. Sewald, a real estate
broker with Pacific Union and Mr. Gibboney, the retired editor and publisher of the Almanac
newspaper, will serve until June 30, 2017.
Both new presidents say they are passionate about the mission of Rotary, especially in the local
community. Recent projects completed by the club include building a community garden for
Belle Haven residents, supplying dictionaries to third graders, volunteering at Second Harvest
Food Bank and the Ronald McDonald House.
Mr. Gibboney, an avid cyclist, has co-chaired the Tour de Menlo bicycle ride with longtime club
member Dick Givens for more than 10 years. Last year, the ride raised nearly $40,000 for need-
based scholarships and 10 nonprofit agencies supported by the Almanac Holiday Fund.

About Rotary
Rotary is an international humanitarian service organization. Rotary members are business and
professional leaders who volunteer their expertise, compassion, and power to improve
communities at home and abroad in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Rotary is a
worldwide network of 34,000 clubs and 1.2 million members. The Rotary Club of Menlo Park
consists of volunteers who are active or retired business professionals who live or work in the
city of Menlo Park and neighboring cities. Among other community service projects, the Rotary
Club of Menlo Park has a scholarship program for high school graduates going on to college, and
the club has recently started a community garden project in the Belle Haven community. The
club also puts on two major fundraising events annually – the “Taste of Menlo & beyond” food,
wine and music benefit in June and the “Tour de Menlo” bike ride in August. The Rotary Club
of Menlo Park Foundation was founded as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. 100% of every
dollar is contributed to support its designated mission. This formula has appealed to many
generous friends who have supported the Foundation, enabling the endowment to exceed
$2.5million. For more information, please visit www.menloparkrotary.org or email
