The document discusses the conventions used in magazine design and how the student's media product compares. It examines the conventions used for magazine covers, contents pages, and articles.
For the cover, it shares conventions like the masthead, cover lines, and color schemes with real magazines. The contents page uses a two-column layout with page numbers like real magazines. The article includes a photo alongside text, a catch heading and quote like in magazines.
The student aimed to follow conventions but also challenge them by using different fonts, photos and layouts to create a sleek, clean style while maintaining a magazine-like feel. Finding the right balance of content and professionalism within this style was a challenge.

In what ways does your

Magazine cover inspiration
We share similar conventions as we both have a mast head that
spans the top page. We share a main cover line which spans the
bottom of the page.
We also share cover lines although mine are on the left in contrast
We both use
a colour
scheme
although
they differ
slightly, in
that their
colour
scheme uses
red as a
house colour
were as
mine is a
dark blue.

magazine cover I found that most of my inspiration stems
from the rolling stone and Q magazines
as I like the professional clean cut look
that both magazines use.
My magazine cover conforms to most
conventions in that there is a large
header which spans the length of the
cover with also a cover artist who looks
directly at the camera, while also having
sub-headings with small pieces or clues
to what is contained inside. My cover
also shares a convention from the rolling
stone magazine cover in that the artist
name is presented along the bottom. I
have also tried to give newspaper style
subheadings along the left hand side
which resemble the rolling stone.
I have used classic traditional serif fonts
to resemble a times new roman news
paper feel. While also using new grungy
graphitti style fonts to contrast while also
maintaining a sleek clean cut magazine.
I faced many challenges with the cover. I
found the sizing of fonts very difficuilt

Contents Page Inspiration
We both share similar conventions and forms. We both use a two column system with
two rows in which one of them is much larger than the other. We both also use page
numbers in the feature section. Although they do not have a letter from the editor along
with any subscription information. We both use a mast head although mine is
considerably larger.
We also
share a
contents
page
that give
a clue as
to what
the
articles
contain.
Although
the Q
contents
page
does not
include a
photo of
the
cover.
5. +Contents Page My contents page fairly conforms to
conventions, as it uses the traditional
newspaper layout compared to more
scaled back contents pages.
I tried to resemble the rolling stone
main text line as it differs from the
cover header.
I used news paper style columns to
resemble the rolling stone while also
trying to use a more modern layout
which is similar to the Q contents page.
I did this though using drop shadows
on the graphic boxes to give the page a
slight depth.
I used sans serif fonts for the main
amount of text as this is a common
convention, while also using serif fonts
for the sub headings and main banner
title.
I used two photos based on the articles
inside. I have used a subscription
section as well as a not from the editor.

Article page inspiration
We both use the
article on one
side, with a photo
on the other side.
We both also use
a catch heading
and a central
quote.
We both use a mid shot of the
main artist. Although theirs
differs in that it is one main
photo that spans the back
ground, where as mine is a
graphic placed on the back
7. +Article
I have used
polaroid photos
as my article
images to go
against traditional
studio photo
conventions.
My article conforms to standard regulations and conventions, although it is
quite scaled back compared to other article styles available. I have done this
to fit my theme of a sleek clean cut magazine style. Although it does not look
as affective as I had imagined.
I have used a
sans serif font for
the main body of
text, with a serif
font as a header.

challenges
I found many tasks difficult, mostly around trying to implement
my theme of scaled back, sleek professionalism.
Partly because it seems their is a lack of content and or looks
very clean and professional.
I find I have to resource other magazines to find the right
balance to achieve the presentation I desire.
