2. Clothing, need..
Clothing protects the vulnerable nude human
body from the extremes of weather, other
features of our environment, and for safety
reasons.
Every article of clothing also carries a cultural
and social meaning.
Human beings are the only creatures known to
wear clothing
3. The first biblical reference to
clothes appears in Genesis 3…
Shortly after Adam and Eve ate the fruit
from "the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil“. They suddenly were aware
that they were naked and immediately
sewed fig leaves together to cover
themselves.
Adam said that he hid from God
because he was afraid for Him to see
him naked, indicating a newly
discovered sense of shame This was
wrong, as there should be no shame in
nakedness before God or between a
husband and wife. However, nakedness
is not appropriate when other people
enter the picture. Immediately after
noting that other human beings would
come through Eve, the Bible says that
God made clothes out of animal skins to
cover the first couple (Genesis 3:20-21).
7. The earliest garments were made of leather and
other non-fabrics, rather than of cloth.
8. Peat-digging in the Iron Age ; is a phase in the
development of human culture in which the use
of early metal tools appeared alongside the use
of stone tools.
14. Modesty..
People do not have innate sense of shame..
Children as they grow, learn this as per the
social behaviour.
It must be said modesty or shame was not a
casual factor in the initial development of
clothes, but is merely a result of the habbit of
wearing them. (Elizabeth Rouse,
understanding Fashion)
20. Clothing as social reason
Social messages sent by clothing,
accessories, and decorations can involve-
Modesty
Social status
Occupation
Ethnic and Religious affiliation,

Humans must know the code in order to
recognize the message transmitted.
24. Clothing as social reason
In ancient times, only Roman senators could wear
garments dyed with Tyrian purple;
In China before the establishment of the republic,
only the emperor could wear yellow.
The threat of social ostracism may also limit
garment choice.
Under the Travancore kingdom of Kerala India, lower
caste women had to pay a tax for the right to cover
their upper body.
25. Only high-ranking Hawaiian chiefs could wear
feather cloaks and palaoa or carved whale

26. In many cases throughout history, there have been
elaborate systems of sumptuary laws regulating who
could wear what. In current Western society, only the
