EVALUATION QS.1
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT USE , DEVELOP OR
CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF EXISTING MEDIA
PRODUCTS
The genre that I have chosen is
Romantic Thriller. Romantic
Thriller is basicly described
as the merging of two
different genre’s such as
romantic and thriller. The
institution that I chose is
Bollywood whereas my
media institution is Yah Raj
Films. I chose Bollywood and
Yash Raj Films as my
institution because it has
portrayed romance and
thriller inimitably in there
various movies. Some of the
romantic movies produced
by Yash Raj are Jab Tak Hai
 The director Yash Raj
Chopra is known as
the ‚King’’
of romance and has
taught people to fall
in love with his love
stories. Daag-A poem
of love story was a
major success which
received the best
filmfare award.
Mise-en-scene.
 Mise-en-scene used in an
Romantic Thriller movie is
that different types of
effects and lights are very
necessary to achieve the
feeling and to give a touch
of reality. Music plays a
vital role. Soft tender
music would show the love
and the sensitivity among
the relationship. The movie
Ishaqzaade shows both the
romantic as well as the
thrill parts. The female
character Parineeti falls in
love with Arjun who ends up
cheating her in the beginning.
The famous song ishaqzaade
itself is a romantic song
Props.
 There are typical props used in a romantic
genre. E.g flowers or gifts which the
characters give to each other. Flowers and
gifts reflect the romance in a relationship.
Like in the movie ishaqzaade the couple wear
same type of shirts of same colour to portray
there love.
 In a thriller genre films the props that are
used are usually guns, knifes, and different
types of masks that create tension in the
film. In Ishaqzaade a lot of use of guns and
explosions is done. There is a lot of fighting
shown throughout the movie. Same way in
my movie in the last there is a thrill scene
as suddenly the girls kills the guy whom
she tends to love a lot.
Characters.
 In a romantic genre
film the main
characters would
always be the
couple it self. The
male character
ends up being more
intrested in love.
Like in the movie
Ishaqzaade we get
to see this clearly
that although at
first the hero Arjun
is not intrested but
later he gets very
serious with the
relation and in the
Clothes.
 In Bollywood the costumes used in romantic films are
quite different. The type of costumes depend upon the
story of the film. But mostly in romantic films the male
character will have smart yet a casual dress sense
wherelse the female will wear long dresses and smart
clothing to enhance and and be the centre of attraction. In
the movie Ishaqzaade we see that the character of Arjun is
shown as a wild, uneducated and non serious boy wherelse
the heroine Parineeti is shown as an educated serious, yet a
girl who enjoys her life to fullest. However there
costumes in the movie give an overall look about the two
different personalities shown in the movie.
Editing Techniques.
 A lot of editing techniques are used in
Romantic Thriller films . Romantic
thriller films use different types of
editying .For romantic scenes fast cuts
are used in pace with non-digetic music
in the background.This way the
emotions and the atmosphere of the
films is portrayed. Fades are used in
different scenes.Shot reverse shots
are used in different romantic openings
to show the characters looking and
speaking with each other.
 In thriller films editing techniques
such as Dolly zoom is used by film
makers to represent the mode of
realization. Long shot and extreme
long shots are also used . Fast cutting
techniques are used to show the
changing perspective of the viewer.
 In my movie Never Again I added
romantic quotes in the opening as it
was done in the movie Ishaqzaade in
order to seek the attention of the
Title.
 The title of the film is ‘Never Again’ and
the reason why I kept this as a title
because it would make the audience think
about the movie before they even start to
watch the opening. ‘Never Again’ basicly
describes a phrase which holds the
people from not to trust each other
deeply in love. Just like the movie
Ishaqzaade the title itself shows the love
of two people who fell in love with each
other but unfortunately there love was
not accepted by there families,religion
and society.
Challenges.
 In my movie I have challenged the
stereotype because normally we see
that in a romantic thriller the girl is
very kind and serious in relationship
but here in my film the boy is serious
and kind wherelse the girl is not. And
eventually in the end we see that the
girl kills the boy.
