• Is a word that names a person,
place, thing or idea.
4. Kinds of Nouns
Common -the name of any person, place, thing
or idea.
Examples:
boy , city , toothpick
5. Proper- the name of a specific person, place or
thing.
When a noun is proper, it’s always capitalized.
Example:
Peter, Manila ,Clark
6. Concrete- a person, place or thing that you can
perceive with any of your five senses- sight,
hearing, smell, touch or taste.
Examples:
gorilla, pizza, tulip, raindrops, mud, computer,
valentine
7. Abstract – a feeling, emotion, passion, idea or
quality.
Examples:
sadness, freedom, honesty, intelligence,
patience
8. Collective- a group of persons, places or things.
Examples:
Staff, faculty, bouquet, audience, team, flock,
assembly, bundle, nation
9. Even though collective nouns include many
people, animals or things, they are still singular nouns,
not plural, because everyone or everything in
the group is acting together as one.
The orchestra is (not are) performing at eight o’clock.
10. Compound- two or more words used together
as one noun.
Examples:
earthquake, jellyfish, football
rush hour, fairy tale

sentence.
It tells the subjects actions, events, or state of
being.

of a sentence.
A verb that shows action is called
an action verb.
