Instructions for completing this particular task:
For this particular task, you are required to complete the table provided on the following page
(COLUMNS D to F only) as follows:
PART A: Complete COLUMNS D and E
Use the information provided on the Virtual office website to complete COLUMNS D and E where
applicable. An example has been provided for you to follow.
For COLUMN E you need to select the most appropriate control for your chosen hazard i.e. one (1)
only.
PART B: Complete COLUMN F
Use the information provided in the ‘Hierarchy of Controls’ factsheet published by WorkCover NSW to
complete COLUMN F. You can find this factsheet on the SAKAI site for this unit. Based on the control
which you have chosen to control your selected hazard, you need to state how the particular hazard
has been controlled with reference to the ‘Hierarchy of Controls’.

Case study
Marcelo Galena is the new owner of a burger house in the city. It operates from 8:00am–6:00pm daily,
with the exceptions of Sundays and public holidays. It is located at the corner of Bourke and Collin Streets
in Melbourne. The dining area has an average seating capacity of 20 persons. There are 10 people
employed daily from 7:00am–7:00pm. Employees are expected to keep both the dining and kitchen areas
clean and free from hazards. Part of an employee’s duty is to operate kitchen equipment, such as the deep
fryer, oven, microwave and food warmer.
