Project Case Study
Task 1- WHS Policy and Procedures (5 marks)
You have recently been employed as a full time Work Health
and Safety Officer at AAC Training Pty Ltd [AAC]. On your
first day, you were provided with verbal WHS induction by the
Manager. It has been identified that staff at AAC did not
receive the WHS induction package as the organisation had
recently moved to a new premises.
You have been asked by the Manager to put together a WHS
induction package for staff members. The package should
include, as a minimum:
· Description of WHS policies and procedure– Duty of care,
employer and employees responsibilities, any relevant
legislation [1 marks]
· Emergency procedures, including fire evacuation [1 marks]
· Safe manual handling techniques [1 marks]
· Reporting and Issue resolution procedures [1 marks]
· Principles of equal employment opportunity(EEO) and anti-
discrimination[1 marks]
Task 2 - Workplace Inspection (5 marks)
The purpose of this task is to demonstrate your skills in
identifying and reporting workplace hazards at ACA.
The WHS Committee has requested a safety inspection of the
workplace. Using the WHS inspection form provided below
conduct an inspection of your workplace according to WHS
procedures.
Your inspection should include:
· Identification of any potential health and safety risks
· Any behaviours that may have WHS implications
· Display of Emergency Incidents procedures
· Appropriate signs or symbols or notices displayed for the
work area

actions required to eliminate or alleviate any issues that you

Signs and Symbols [2 marks]
Signs and symbols are used to give information on hazards (eg.
Slippery when wet); the location of safety equipment (Fire
Extinguisher) or to give guidance in an emergency
(Exit or Evacuation Area). Signs need to be easily recognisable
for everyone, regardless of literacy level or language.
Using the website www.seton.com.au find the safety signs listed
below and complete the table. You can copy and paste a copy

Task 3 - WHS Meeting Agenda (5 marks)

Task 4 - WHS Incident reporting (5 marks)
John Jones was working at his PC when he decided to have a
break and get a cup of coffee. as he was very busy he decided
that rather then go to the canteen he would just make a cup in
the kitchen and continue working. On his way back from the
kitchen he tripped and fell over a computer cord lying across
the aisle. He put his hand out to break his fall but fell
awkwardly, spilling his coffee. John ended up with a badly
sprained wrist and a burnt hand.

the top right hand corner of the form. you may need to indicate
some additional details of your own (i.e. exactly where the
accident occurred etc).

Task 5- Identify resources (5 Marks)
AAC has setup a staff team to identify resource usage. As part
of the team, you will write a process / job task list. Limit
yourself to the specific area/tasks in which you are involved.
Calculate the cost of current usage of resources.

Task 6- Workplace environmental survey (5 Marks)
Impressed with your information gathering and analysis skills,
AAC Manager has permitted you to carry out complete a walk
around survey and list your results in the table below
This simple task requires that you walk around and really
LOOK at areas of environmental impacts and inefficiency in
your workplace. Many of these areas are often caused by bad
habits that are easy to spot and straightforward to fix.
They can generally be broken down into four key categories:
• energy
• water
• waste
• pollution
Remember to be polite and diplomatic. You will be looking at
the work practices and habits of people who have been in the
workplace much longer than you!

Task 7- Developing an environmental policy (5 Marks)
As a new employee it is unlikely that you will have an
immediate impact on policy and work procedure development.
However it is a useful exercise to complete a basic
environmental policy for your workplace related to the
particular tasks that you complete. A basic template is included
below and will help guide your thoughts in developing your own
policy.

Project Case study
Task 10 – Develop procedures [20 marks]
You are working at the IT Help desk at ACA Pty Ltd. Sarah Li,
receptionist of the ACA Pty Ltd calls the Helpdesk, and reports
that she cannot find a file she is trying to open in Word. She
only saved it this morning.
Note: She has not saved the file as usual on the Network drive,
but got distracted and being unaware, saved the file in the
folder "Personal" on the C drive. The file is called
Contactlist.DOC.
Determine the approach you would take in supporting the above
person.
Your task is to complete the following:
1. List and describe the steps, including the prompts, you would
follow in supporting the user and solve the problem. [5 marks]
2. Create a Call log and document what you would write in the
log about [5 marks]

Task 11 - Create a Fax [10 marks]
Your task is to design and create a fax for the following
scenario.
You work for the Netronics Pty Ltd at 1 Kent Street, Sydney
2000. The I.T Manager, Mr Yogi Singh has asked you to send a
fax using the company letterhead.
Mr Yogi would like you to complete a fax from him to the
General Manager, John of the ACA Pty Ltd.
In the fax you need to include the following information:
The IBM servers that ACA Pty Ltd was enquiring about are now
in stock and are ready for delivery. You can include a price list
with the fax (in this scenario this is already printed on one
single page ready to go – do not make it up, just mention it in
your fax). The fax content will ask which printer they have
decided to purchase (if any) and what quantity they require.
A copy of the fax needs to go to Mr Yogi’s secretary, Ken
Johnson for filing.
ACA Pty Ltd is located at 501 George Street, Sydney 2000.
Their phone number is 9824242 and fax number is 98424243.
Mr. Yogi would like a reply as soon as possible.
The Netronics Pty Ltd’s phone number is 98999999 and their
fax number is 98999988. Fax must be filled with the details
written above. Do remember to write your name as the sender of
the Fax.
Task 12 – Create a Memo [10 marks]
Mr Yogi has asked you to send a Memo out to the following
staff in the sales department – Kesa , Lelei and Ron.
The memo is to let them know the IBM servers are in stock and
that they can request a price list from you. A copy of the memo
needs to go to Mr Yogi’s secretary, , Ken Johnson for filing.
In this task consider the following:

· All relevant content is included
· You have included details for the receiver of the message to
make contact easily for further clarification, or to ask questions.

On your first day, you were provided with verbal WHS induction by the Manager. It has been identified that staff at AAC did not receive the WHS induction package as the organisation had recently moved to a new premises. You have been asked by the Manager to put together a WHS induction package for staff members.
