This document discusses several precedents for biodiverse prairie and meadow landscapes in major prairie systems of the southeast U.S. It lists various university and botanical garden sites that maintain prairie habitats, including the University of Wisconsin Arboretum that burns 120 acres annually in Madison. It also provides examples of preservation sites for Cajun prairie habitat in Louisiana and Texas, as well as arboretum sites in Mississippi that experiment with prairie seed mixtures. The document concludes by noting an upcoming Urban Meadows class at LSU School of Landscape Architecture beginning in spring 2014.
