This document describes research on cloning, expressing, and purifying the L-type lectin LvLTLC1 from the white leg shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei. LvLTLC1 was previously shown to support shrimp innate immunity against Vibrio parahaemolyticus, the pathogen causing acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND). The researchers cloned the LvLTLC1 gene from L. vannamei shrimp and expressed it recombinantly in E. coli. They purified the recombinant LvLTLC1 protein and found it was able to agglutinate, or clump, V. parahaemolyticus in a calcium-independent manner. This suggests LvLTLC1
