1. In this industry the poster is an important factor in promoting a film to the
public. This tells the people who see the poster what the film may be about and
what to expect. First of all controversy surrounds one of the original posters of
The Descent, which had to be changed
as it had close reference to the 7/11
attacks which took place in London on
a bus which had a Descent poster on it.
One poster includes the six girls
conjoined together to form a skull
figure/shape. By doing so it creates an
idea that there is an element of death
that is apart of this film. Also the title
is written in bold to make it stand out
to anyone passing by a poster or
billboard.
The alternative poster/billboard tries to
stay basic by just showing a black poster
with the face of Sarah and a mysterious
quote describing the film. They also sell it
by promoting the fact that the director of
Dog Soldiers ‘Neil Marshall’ is also in a
directing role in this film.
7/11 ATTACKS
A Skull shape made from girls
bodies.
On the edge of the skull
formation you might be able
to spot each of the girls faces.
The use of a distorted image of a
Crawler leaves suspense to the
audience on what exactly one
looks, prompting them to go and
watch the film.
