2. Rock Music
This is a classic rock magazine, on this cover we
see Aerosmith, a popular rock band. It’s a two
shot medium close up on a straight angle. The
color scheme is low key, which also the dark
colors relate with rock. The emotions are
darkness, scared and fright. This is displayed by
the dressing of the people in the image and
their accessories. Also the fonts used are faded
and out of line. The whole messy mise-en-scene.
It is in-direct mode of address, meaning
the people in the shot are not looking straight
at the camera. Aerosmith is represented as
hardcore and not caring with a mix of happy
and sad. This can be seen in their face
expressions. Overall it is very messy and out of
the ordinary, by this I mean mainly their
dressing, which can be very well related to the
target group.
3. Electro Music
First thing you see when looking at this magazine
cover is the bright colors. Comparing this to the
rock magazine cover, the colors are much more
high key and happy a cheerful feel, the guy even
has a bright yellow smiley on his t-shirt. The shot
of the guy is a long shot with his whole body
included from a straight angle. His stomach is the
focus, as he is wearing a t-shirt with a giant
smiley which heavily links to the subject. Here
the fonts used are much more bold and all are in
capital. The background used for this is much
more exciting and takes much more attention.
The mode of address is direct as the guy is
making eye contact with the camera. The words
‘RETURN TO RAVE’ which is highlighted well links
in with the genre, overall the cover is organized
well with the color scheme and the writing, but
colors are very intense as is the background.
4. R&B Music
There is a lot less text on this cover, putting more
focus towards the image being a man a thought
which links well with the R&B genre. The color
scheme is very simple and calm which a few of the
headlines being highlighted in yellow. The lighting
is both high and low key. Once again like in the
Electro Music the fonts are bold and capital. The
shot is a medium shot from a straight angle which
the lighting putting a focus on the mans hands and
head. The general feel on this cover is ‘thinking’
and in the subtitle at the bottom this is what it
relates too which the two words ‘INNOCENT’ and
‘GUILTY’ both having a question mark at the end.
Overall looking at this picture you make a
connection with the man in the middle, which is
the magazine trying to bring you onto his side.
