Currentlythe ideafora title whichIam consideringtouse forthisfilmiseither‘draw it’or‘ink
kingdom’.Ibelieve thatthese titleswill be suitable formyfilmbecauseitisabouta child whose
drawingscome to life.The title mustbe short,snappyandeffective inmyopinionbecause if the title
isquite goodit can influenceaproduceror readerto like orwantto watch my shortfilmbecause it
can suggestto themthe kindof experience theywill have watching the filmorgive themavague
ideaof the genre orplotof the filmwhichenticesthemtowatchit.
Length of film
Currentlyatthispointintime I believethatthe lengthof thisfilmwill be around6-8minutes.Inmy
opinionthe shorterthe filmisinthe endthe betteritwill be because If Ispendmore time focusing
on a shorterfilmandlessscenesmyfilmwill endupbeingalotmore effective inthe endandof a
much higherquality.
A short longline
In thisfilmthe maincharacterwill be eitherayoungboyor girl agedbetween7-11(juniorschool
age) whoat the beginningof the filmisdrawingpicturesinhis/herbedroomandwhentheyfall
asleepthe drawingscome tolife/becomeareality,weatheritisinhis/herdreamsorit comingtrue
whenhe/ she wakesupthe nextmorning.
Towardsthe endof the filmthe character comesto the conclusionthattheycan getwhateverthey
wantif theydrawit. Howevertheysoonrealise whattheydotoget whattheywantcan be selfish
and hurtful toothersand the lessonthattheylearnisgreeddoesn’tbringhappiness.
The thingthat makesthisshortfilmparticularlyunique isthatwithoutthe use of anydialogue you
can see whatthe charactersintentsare and youcan see themlearningavital lessonandthere being
a motto to the storyeventhoughnowords have beenspoken.
Keepingthiskeyinfoof myfilmideainmindIbelieve thatagoodand effectivetagline/longline for
my shortfilmwouldbe ‘the future of drawing’ asI believe thatitgivesagood summaryof the
synopsisof the filmandgivesavague hintto the audience asto whattheycouldexpectinthe film,
whichfurtherenticesthemtowatchmy film.
Introduction ofkey characters
The main character of thisshort filmwill be eitherayoungboyor girl agedbetween7-11 (junior
school age) the character will be dressedinpyjamasatthe start of the filmandcasual clothestypical
of theirage and genderatthiscurrent time periodinthe restof the filmas itis setinthisyear. The
maincharacter will be of the reformeronthe youngand Rubicam’s4c’s model andC1 (lowermiddle
class) on the NRSsocial grade classificationscale. Theirattitude andbehaviourwill alsobe thatof a
childtypical of theirage and gender.
2. Synopsisbroken down into3 clear acts:
Act 1
In the openingscene itisautumn/winterinthe southof Englandinthe new forest,the childisin
theirpyjamasintheirroomjustbefore bedtime doingsome sketchesanddrawings. There are
several shotsof himaddingtodifferentdrawingsandfinishinguphis/herfinal drawing he/she flicks
throughthe sketchbookrevealingafewotherdrawingsthattheyhave done.Theythengoto clear
all the pencilsaway,putthe sketchbookundertheirpillow,getintobedandleanoverto turnoff the
bedside light.Nothingseemsoutof the ordinarysofar.
Act 2
In the followingscene while the childisasleepthe sketchbookslidesoutfromunderhis/herpillow
by itself andfallsontothe floorandthe pagesstrangelystartto turnand flipoverbythemselves
whichthengivesthe audience asense thatsomethingstrange andoutof the ordinaryisabout to
happen.
Act 3
In thisscene the childthenwakesuptofindthat the drawingshave gone andhave now been
replacedwiththe itemswhichhe haddrawnthe nightbefore.Thingsare startingtofeel strange and
eerie forthe audience.
Target audience- who are theyand how will you reach them
My targetaudience isaimedatyoung(junioraged)/earlyteenage yearsboysandgirls(aged8-14)
and theywill be will be the mainstreamand/orthe reformeronthe youngand Rubicam’s4c’s
model andC1 (lowermiddle class) onthe NRSsocial grade classificationscale.Because the main
character isa juniorschool agedchild thenIam aimingforthe filmto be relatable tothem.Iwill also
attract the targetaudience through children’sTV ads, postersandsocial mediaadvertsasall of my
target audience are verylikelytobe activelyusingsocial mediasotherefore thisisthe bestwayto
getthe word out.

microphone andtripodforbetteraudioandsteadyshots.I will alsouse ago pro for the POV shotsas
it iseasiertoshootthese sceneswithasmallercamera.
Marketplace- where do you see this filmin the market? Will it do well at festivals?Is there scope
for a sequel/prequel,spinoff etc.?
I wouldsee thisfilmdoingquitewellfrombeingsharedonsitessuchasYouTube andFacebook.
Howeverif itturnsout as goodas I hope Ithinkit coulddowell ina small local shortfilmfestival
such as the SouthamptonSolentuniversityshortfilmcompetition.
