John Rackham, also known as Calico Jack, was an English pirate captain in the Bahamas and Cuba in the early 1700s. He was known for wearing calico clothing and for having two female pirates, Mary Read and Anne Bonny, on his crew, making them the first recorded female pirates. After deposing another pirate captain and receiving a pardon for a time, Rackham returned to piracy in 1720 but was soon captured and hanged in Jamaica on November 18, 1720.
