Nintendo was founded in 1889 and launched its first video game console, the Game & Watch, in 1980. It achieved massive success with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) launched in 1983. The NES was Nintendo's first 8-bit console and the best-selling of its generation. Nintendo followed up with the 16-bit Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, known for being the first to feature 3D graphics. Later popular consoles included the Nintendo 64 in 1996 and the GameCube in 2002, which was the first to use mini DVDs. Nintendo has continued to innovate with motion controls in the Wii and a hybrid portable/home console in the Nintendo Switch.
