Editor's Notes
ILO: This means that productivity is basically a measure of the effectiveness and efficiency of your organization in generating output with the resources available.
NWPC defines productivity as the efficient use of resources in relation to the effective delivery of quality goods/services.
Efficiency is the capacity of a company to achieve the desired output at a least cost.
Effectiveness is the capacity of a company to produce quality output.
Quality means accurate, complete and timely delivery of goods and services.
A bottleneck (or constraint) in a supply chain means the resource that requires the longest time in operations of the supply chain for certain demand.
5S is a simple tool for organizing your workplace in a clean, efficient and safe manner to enhance your productivity, visual management and to ensure the introduction of standardized working. It is not just a methodology; but a culture that has to be built in to any organization which aims for spontaneous and continuous improvement of working environment and working conditions.
Establish a set of criteria to distinguish what is necessary from unnecessary. Some factors to consider are: frequency of usage, value, shelf life, quality requirement, etc. Sort useful from useless:
No use: throw away!
No use: not yours
- Not yours: ask whose
- Don’t know whose, no use: throw away!
