2. INTRODUCTION
The main idea of this work is to make known the main attractions that this country has, being
one of the most outstanding in Latin America for belonging to the European Union.
It should be noted that despite the great diversity of languages, ethnicities and cultures is a
country that revolves around modernism. Its habitants identify more with Europe, because the
roots of their former colonizers still predominate.
3. FRENCH GUYANA
French Guiana is a region of France, constituted in the overseas department, which is part of the
European Union as an outermost region. It is located on the north coast of South America, in the
region of Las Guayanas, between Brazil and Suriname, limiting on the north by the Atlantic
Ocean. Its capital and most populated city is Cayenne.
1. Some History
According to the historians, this territory was initially populated by indigenous populations such
as galibi, emerillon, palikour, waiampi and wayana. From the 15th century, with the arrival of
the Spaniards to the continent, a process of conquest characterized for violent confrontations.
From the seventeenth century this territory is visited by conquerors and colonizers from other
regions of Europe: English, Dutch and French, the latter being those who decide to make small
commercial settlements.
During the seventeenth century also comes the enslaved population, brought from Africa. Also
during this century the French migration increased, happening even towards the last decades of
this period.
In this way, a great diversity of populations and cultures was created in this French colony
located in South America. It is believed that currently more than 259 people living in French
Guiana descend mainly from the enslaved African population. Likewise, this region also has a
presence of Europeans, western Indians, Brazilians, Asians and less indigenous, descendants of
the original tribes.
.
2. Culture
The Culture of French Guyana is made up of British, Dutch, Portuguese, Hindu, Chinese,
indigenous and above all African and Caribbean influences. However, this diversity of cultures
does not constitute a mixture or miscegenation, but rather they coexist in the territory, conserving
their autonomy, while they are practiced independently by each of the populations or
descendants that exercise them.
4. French is the official language of Guyana, but other languages are also spoken. The most spoken
language is Creole French Guiana, which is based on French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and
other African and Amerindian languages.
3. Music
Among the most important cultural manifestations of the region is music, which evidences the
Caribbean influences, although it does not stop being a miscegenation between the cultures
coming from India, Europe and Africa. Highlight some musical rhythms such as calypso, reggae
and soca. Also, some scholars point out that French Guyana shares customs and musical cultural
events Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago and even Venezuela.
4. Turism
French Guyana has ventured into the territory of tourism in recent years.
Among the reasons to visit this country are biodiversity, its extensive forest areas, its history, its
cultural richness and its sea. Another of its tourist attractions is the spaceport of Kourou.
Some special points for tourism are: Cayenne, Kourou, Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni and Remire-
Montjoly.
5. Gastronomy (typical food)
Like most areas of the Caribbean and northern South America, French Guiana uses a lot of fish
and seafood in general. It also uses many fruits and vegetables, along with spices and spicy.
This is a kitchen full of flavor and delicacy. Guyana's culinary tradition comes from the
influence of people from almost every nation on earth; this game is about rediscovering the
flavors of the Amazonian tropical cuisine. In fact, the forest is everywhere because it is where
they come from more traditional products such as yucca, Awara and fruits. However, Guyana
dishes are also dishes that have their roots in the depths of Africa, and Europe.
5. CONCLUSIONS
In this work, we unveiled characteristics of this country, as it is identified, its territories and its
main ideals, were made known, it was chosen more than all this country because of the great
diversity it handles despite being little known within the Latin American territory.
