The Cleveland Browns And The Detroit Lions
As my relatives arrived, I began to feel more alone. The conversation ran the usual course. The men talked about the Cleveland Browns or the Detroit
Lions. The woman talked about their children or past marriages. I kept on the move between the two groups. My biggest fear was that I would start
taking about the war or say something about the woodland spirits that my Aunt Claudia believed existed. I wanted to talk about her, but I knew very
little about her life. She believed that it was her destiny to build a family industry. She believed if her people followed her, the industry would
become a dynasty. My Aunt Colleen believed that I should complete her task; then, my Aunt Claudia could rest in peace. Both women felt I should
quit my job. I should leave my city home and move into this house in the woodland area. They believed I needed only a bed, a desk, and a lamp. My
salvation was to work in my uncle's workshop. Once I'd built enough fishing boats, their visions would come true. Then, my partner, a soul twin
would arrive, and we'd fish like in the old days. Then, one of the city girls would marry me. I had to trust their visions like the apostles trusted
Jesus when he saved them form the storm in the Sea of Galilee. To bring visions out into the open would end my family dinner before anyone had
eaten. To bring visions into the open would convince everyone that I was crazy. I was crazy, but not because of any beliefs. I was crazy because of the
war, and I had to leave

Descriptive Essay About My Family
Beaten, broken down, ramshackle, and vandalized. This is what you see now, an insignificant piece of architecture. I see a home my family spent
more than 60 years in. It became my sanctuary. My father's childhood home in San Luis Potosi, Mexico helped me embrace my Mexican culture
because it was where I first tried authentic Mexican food, met my ethnic family, and saw so much change in my family's life.
First, I remember the day I tried my aunt's Mexican style rice, and I instantly fell in love. I had never tasted something so delicious. A delicious
blend of white rice with a tomato base. To this day, it remains my favorite food. Not to mention, I discovered the many drinks you can make out of
fruits and plants. In particular, a drink popularly known as "Agua de Jamaica" was a gift sent from heaven. I was with my Aunt and Mother one
night, and I noticed them making some sort of red liquid. I reluctantly asked "what is that?", my mother then replied with "agua de jamaica" or
hibiscus tea in English. I had a taste and I was instantly hooked on it. Last, something that many of us have already heard of is flan. An open, spongy
pastry, flan is one of the most well–known Mexican desserts. I first tried it when I was 10 years old and it was such an amazing treat made by my
Aunt. I was able to try these authentic dishes in that house. Every Time I eat those foods again, it takes me back to what that house used to be.
Second, in that same home where my father grew up, I was able

Uncle Sam Propaganda
One can see the use of recurring propaganda in today's time. The first poster of Uncle Sam, named "I Want You for the U.S Army" rose during 1917
as the original artist, James Montgomery Flagg created this poster to encourage recruitment in the United States Army at the advent of World War I. "I
Want You for the U.S Army" poster was extremely popular as it had over four million copies of it printed and displayed throughout theUnited States.
Flagg created the image to symbolize America and America's demand for young recruits for the war effort. The representation of the colors of the
American flag and "Uncle Sam," a fictional man with a crisp stoic expression, as the main focal point revealed the type of features Flagg incorporated

The context of the propaganda piece is to spark interest in enlisting with the United States army. However, Flagg creates Uncle Sam in a unique
way to not only address the clustered population of young soldiers but to directly encode the importance of the individual. The poster has the word
"YOU" in bolded and slightly bigger letters. When one looks at the parts of the poster that are unique, one might look at the word "YOU" and
straight towards the index finger pointed at the individual. This use of linear perspective that Flagg creates is fundamental to the message of the
poster. If one were to draw lines from any part of the poster, it would lead to the index finger, revealing the important placement of the finger in the
middle of the poster. Additionally, the use of lithographs, or authorized copy of an original work, was ubiquitous in the United States as higher
quality copy images of Uncle Sam were created consistently at a high rate. This recurring image that was engraved in the minds of Americans
exposed to newspapers and media outlets can identify Flagg's poster as a symbol of wartime and demand for soldiers. Flagg's goal of building this
symbolic poster of Uncle Sam revealed a man with great fairness, reliability, and honesty; this man was devoted to his country and is now allowing
young Americans to carry out his legacy

Analysis Of The Poem ' Adrienne Rich
Women had little resources to escape an unhappy or abusive marriage during the nineteen fifties. Most just learned to deal with it behind their closed
doors in silence. During this time the divorce rate, according to an article published in 1973 by the "National Center for Health Statistics", was at
twenty–five percent. (Plateris). Most women did not have the luxury of getting one due to the fact that most husbands of that time had control of the
household finances, not to mention that it was a costly venture. Some marriages struggled with spousal abuse as well; be it emotional or physical yet
domestic violence at this time was something that people really did not talk about, nor were there the resources for victims that we have today. In this
haunting poem, Adrienne Rich uses symbolism to paint a picture of a scared, and lonely woman as she creates this tapestry of Tigers being hunted, in
a colorful landscape, while she is pondering her relationship between her and her spouse.
The author starts the poem in a quiet manner with the character Aunt Jennifer sitting peaceably weaving a tapestry of majestic Tigers being hunted.
With bright colors in the first stanza," Bright topaz denizens of a world of green," (line 2) Topaz is a gem that has a wide color range that includes
brown, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple but the definition of it states that a true Topaz is colorless. Denizens means a place or places

Uncle Sam, A Nickname Gave By The U.s. Government
Uncle Sam, a nickname gave by the U.S. government. Many people say this was first used during the war of 1812. Samuel Wilson or many people
may so "Uncle Sam", was the man behind this name that many American people look up to. This name was a name of brave, hardworking and
courage. Samuel Wilson was born September 13, 1766 in Menotomy Massachusetts. Wilson was the seventh of thirteen kids. Wilson grows up on a
farm close to Mason New Hampshire, also the place he moved when he was about fourteen years of age. When Wilson was about twenty–two years old
he and his older brother Ebenezer Wilson moved away from home to seek their dreams in Troy, New York, about seven miles north of Albany. In

business, and also ran a grocery and dry goods store that was named "Wilson and Mann". Wilson wife Betsey died in 1863. "Burial: Oakwood

My Dad
When I woke up the morning of June 11th, 2008, I thought it was going to be a normal day, but, I was wrong. Growing up, my mom told my
sisters and I about my Uncle. How he was hot tempered and did things that were crazy when he didn 't get his way. My mom and his relationship has
always been tense. From what I 've seen, and from what she has told me. When she got shot by him that day, it proved to me that she was right. It was
just a normal day. My mother sister, and I, driving around. Myuncle had called and told us how he had gotten a new pit bull puppy, and he invited us
over to come see it. We arrive, and this puppy is the cutest pup I 've ever seen. She was brindle with blue eyes. My mom wanted to talk to my uncle
about us keeping her. While lying on the couch playing with the puppy, I look over and see my mom, sister, aunt and uncle sitting on the other couch.
We were laughing, smiling, telling jokes. You wouldn 't think a bad thing would ever happen in the room. I know my mother and uncles' relationship,
an argument was bound to spark over something simple. They began their routine of arguing back and forth. Meanwhile, from what I could understand,
they were fighting about the pup. Now, I know that might sound outrageous but, the arguing continues. The argument ended and my uncle walks off to
the back room with a creepy smile on his face. In my mind I 'm thinking, "Ok everything is fine, they just had a moment." Just like that, I see my uncle

Political Propaganda In Uncle Sam Ruled Out By John Cole
Propaganda Politicians do everything in their power to keep their reputation positive. This can often be ruined by cartoons. Many artists will make
cartoons to poke fun at or even ridicule public officials. This is called propaganda, or political cartoons. Propaganda has been very common throughout
United States History. With social media, the public has immediate access to memes, posts, or even gifs (animated photos) about political issues
happening in the nation. In addition to this, political cartoons and propaganda continue to be used in today's society. "Uncle Sam Ruled Out" by Art
Young and "Trump's Wall BW" by John Cole are very similar types of political propaganda. These cartoons use aspects including their choice of
subject, the use of the fear tactic, and size to represent how political issues are being addressed by two well–known, powerful men. ... Show more

is also a large text statement that says "Build a Wall" in the upper right hand corner. The second cartoon named "Uncle Sam Ruled Out" depicts a

James Montgomery Flagg
There are many pieces in modern design that hold my interest. One of the most interesting pieces of art in modern design is James Montgomery
Flagg's I Want You for U.S. Army poster (James Montgomery Flagg. I Want You for the U.S. Army, Lithograph, 1917. Library of Congress Prints and
Photographs Division Washington, D.C.). While Flagg's piece aims to encourage people to take some action according to the current war, it is also
very easily understood by the text that is intertwined. Much like the I Want You for U.S. poster, Julius Klinger's 8th War Bond poster (Julius Klinger.
Kriegsanleihe, Lithograph. Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, D.C. ) is directed towards the same intent through a
different approach. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Flagg's poster shows his intent through the text, Klinger's poster is much less straightforward and could be hard to understand if the viewer
was not from the same country or culture as Klinger. Unlike Flagg's traditional color scheme in his poster, Klinger uses complementary colors to
enhance the contrast between the red figure eight and the green snakelike figure in the center of the poster. Klinger's poster also does not rely on
its colors to represent its purpose. Instead of relying on the color scheme, Klinger's poster relies on its figure such as the snake and the number to
be the main focus of his piece. The arrows going through the snake give the idea that revenge or anger is toward someone. The top part of the 8
wrapped around the head of the snake also gives the idea of someone being trapped or a very concerning situation. Unlike Flagg's poster, Klinger's
poster seems to take up much more space but does not have a lot of detail or other figures placed in the background. Klinger's poster is much more
simplistic in the tone of the piece. There is very little, if any, value changes that show the rigidness and seriousness compared to Flagg's piece.
Although Klinger relies on its two dimensional form, the items such as the arrows and the figure eight rely on each other in combination as a whole
to depict the message. Much like Flagg's work, the message or context could be lost if the viewer did not speak the same language or was not from the
same country. Klinger's piece captures both simplicity with its two dimensional style and complexity with its unclear

Research Paper On Uncle Sam
He was born on April 27, 1822, in Point Pleasant, Ohio. His ancestors were of English and Scottish heritage. He was not given a name for a month
after his birth because his mother considered several names to call him. Later he was named after his maternal grandfather, but the initials of his
name embarrassed him. When he entered West Point his name was mistakenly enrolled. He did not change his name since he liked the initials. He
was called "Sam, Uncle Sam" by his friends. At an early age, he was observed to have incredible talents for handling horses. He drove fast horses. He
helped his parents by hauling wood, clearing, and plowing the fields. He avoided working in his father's tannery, for the blood–caked hides made him
sick. He was a happy and honest child. He was never punished at home either by scolding or by the rod. He stood 5 feet and 7 inches tall. He had
wavy brown hair, soft blue eyes and amused himself with a full beard and mustache. He had unusually small feet and hands and had long fingers. He
could not tolerate the sight of animal blood so he wanted that his meat should be cooked well. He never ate fowls like chicken. He suffered from

Descriptive Narrative Essay
Looking out into the beautiful blue sky while sitting in an enormous pearl white charter boat along with the peaceful sound of the waves crashing up
against the side of the boat.Along with simple memories such as riding on a boat in the deep sea and deep sea fishing serves as symbols of the most
important memories of my childhood. My family and I were always at the beach because my uncle at one point in time ran his own fishing charter
business. He would always take my siblings and I out on a boat ride. Everytime we would get to a certain point in the nasty what is supposed to be
blue but is a dark brown color of the ocean we would always know that we then could go stand at the front of the boat. Depending on how big the
waves were let us know if we even wanted to go up there or not. When getting up there we would hold on to a handrail along with an anchor cleat.
We would then wait until a big wave came and right as soon as the front of the boat would start to go down we would jump up in the refreshing
ocean breeze. That then making us feel as if we were on a mini roller coaster. One time my brother wasn't holding on tight enough and he jumped up
and when he did his hands slipped and he flew backwards. "I think I'm going to die!!" yelled Tyler as he landed in the livewell for the largerfish. Later
on I was the only one up there and as the waves started getting bigger and bigger it made the cooler with our snacks in it slid up right up behind me.

Reflection Paper On Being A Nurse
Being a nurse takes its toll on emotions and really puts through tough times with dying patients or patients that are just plain out rude. And at first, I
thought that being emotionally involved with the patient was not allowed because it made it harder to do your job. I was wrong being emotionally
involved makes you a better nurse and makes it seem like you are an actual person and not a mechanical being taking care of patients. We went to say
goodbye. We went there for comfort from our family. We went there to give comfort before the end. Arriving in Wyoming at around eleven we wanted
to see my aunt Ritti before she died. Getting to the hospital I was calm and collected but as soon as I walked into the room my emotions were all
scrambled. Her head tilted back and her mouth was wide open so she could breathe, she was skinnier, pale, and there were bags under her eyes. She
was lying there motionless, the only thing that she could move were her eyes. I only knew one way to handle a situation dealing with death, cry. After
saying hello to my aunt Ritti I said hello to my aunts Tuesday and Rhonda, uncles Daryl and David, and my mother's parents. We stayed in the hospital
talking and catching up and including my aunt in the conversation. Around one in the morning my uncle Daryl sent us to go get some rest because the
plan was to see her off. The next morning we got up at six, arrived at seven and when we got into her room my uncle Daryl said she had declined in

Political Cartoon Analyzing Uncle Sam
Trying to decide what to order when going out to eat can sometimes be challenging. I chose to analyze the political cartoon featuring Uncle Sam
trying to decide on what he would like to eat first. It represents what country he wants to take over first, and he seems pretty pleased with himself.
The waiter, portraying President Mckinley, appeals to be angry at Uncle Sam because he believes that it is unnecessary to be greedy and want all
these foreign countries. He also doesn't want to start any wars. I believe that this cartoon correctly depicts America in the early 1900. The US could
take whatever they wanted. It was just a matter of what to take first. America's menu included Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippines and Hawaii, and in the

Uncle Sam Nickname
On this day in 1813, the United States gets its nickname, Uncle Sam. The name is linked to Samuel Wilson, a meat packer from Troy, New York, who
supplied barrels of beef to the United States Army during the War of 1812.Wilson (1766–1854) stamped the barrels with "U.S." for United States, but
soldiers began referring to the grub as "Uncle Sam's." The local newspaper picked up on the story and Uncle Sam eventually gained widespread
acceptance as the nickname for the U.S. federal government. In the late 1860s and 1870s, political cartoonist Thomas Nast (1840–1902) began
popularizing the image of Uncle Sam. Nast continued to evolve the image, eventually giving Sam the white beard and stars–and–stripes suit that are

Uncle Sam Goddamn Analysis
"Uncle Sam Goddamn" is a song written by Brother Ali in 2007 that conveys the United States government as harsh and cruel. Brother Ali writes
lyrics in a very personal and inspiring way. Ali wrote this song in anger and in protest of the United States due to its controversial history and he writes
with anger and passion. Ali calls out the United States Government and he wants change. Ali uses phrases to show Americas flaws and controversial
history. He is disappointed in the way that America has become what it is today. Brother Ali shows his disappointment of America's controversial
past by using vigorous language and his concern for what America has become. In the opening chorus, Ali starts out by saying "welcome to the
United Snakes, Land of the thief home of the slave imperial guard where the dollar is sacred and proud" (Brother Ali [Chorus]). Instead of saying
United States, he says United Snakes to describe how shady America is. He uses the animal snakes because they slither around and are shady. Ali
uses play on words to emphasize his anger toward America. There are several shady activities that go on behind the scenes with the American
Government. Instead of using the phrase, "Land of the free, home of the brave," Ali says "land of the thief, home of the slave." The foundation of
America was made by killing Native Americans. Ali is calling America thieves because they killed people for land. This is one of the harsh realities of
American history that Ali brings up.

Throughout history media has been influential and ever–changing to the emergence and suppression of American dissent and patriotism during
wartimes. Media has been prominent in America since the very beginning, starting with newspapers, moving to magazines and eventually working its

emergence of American ideals and patriotism. The media was an easy way for the government to be able to mold the minds of the American public
on war and political issues. Uncle Sam was one of the biggest used forms of propaganda in the media of the United States. Uncle Sam is the common
personification of the United States government. His persona was commonly used on posters or in newspapers with the slogan "I WANT YOU FOR

Memoir : The Shortcomings Of A Strange Family
______________________________________________
Memoir #1 – Silence
"Everybody has a chapter they don't read out loud."
I have a strange family. We aren't very open with each other, never learned to express our feelings, but we were fine with that. All of us, including
myself, thought there was no need to pour our feelings out to each other. It was a sign of weakness, especially in a family where everyone's sons and
daughters had to be picture perfect. I was fine with that. Of course, sometimes it hurt, knowing that my mental shortcomings had to be kept to myself
for the sake of the family image. But overtime I got used to it. The silence we kept ourselves in eventually became calming to me. Until that very
silence killed someone.
I remember the day it happened. It was raining and my house was oddly quiet. There was no sound coming from downstairs and I assumed
everyone was still asleep. But, it didn't make sense considering it was a Monday morning and it was 8:00 am. My parents would have been running
around the house leaving for work by now. Maybe they haven't woken up yet, I thought. I got out of bed, put on the black slippers I always leave on
the floor, and walked towards my parent's room. They weren't there. The bedsheets were strewn across the floor and my little brother was still in his
crib. My parents would normally put him on the bed, then wake me up so I could go sleep next to him. I knew something was out of place. Our
morning routine for the summer never once changed.
I ran out of my parent's room and knocked on my brother's door. Maybe he knew what was happening. After a few seconds of knocking, I swung
the door open and looked inside. His bed was the same as my parents, the sheets strewn across the floor as if he got out in a hurry. I began to panic
and ran downstairs to grab the phone. I needed to call someone and find out what was happening as soon as possible. Halfway down the stairs, I
come to a stop. I saw my brother and dad, seated on the couch on opposite ends with their face in their hands. Slowly, I walked the rest of the way
down, like a predator studying its prey. Although, I felt more like frail prey rather than a predator. I wiped any

World War II had just ended a few years ago, marriage and birth rates dramatically increased, and the divorce rate was declining. It was nicknamed
the baby boom. The ideal family of the 1950's was the dad was the head of the household, he brought the paycheck, the mom did the cooking, cleaning
and taking care of the children and the kids were well–behaved and courteous. In the 1950s the age for marrying had decreased from 24 for men to 22
and 21 for women to 20. This was due mainly to the war which caused uncertainty in young couple's lives. Many women took wartime jobs and they
got to experience a sense of freedom they had never known before, when the war was over they were pressured to return back to their domestic roles.
Eventually being someone's bride and wife was once again the goal of most women but one–third of women still made up the work force. The 1950s is
viewed as a time of conformity for both men and women. Women were much pressured to keep the family entity strong and together. The way to do
this best was by remaining at home to take care of her husband and children, and refusing to pursue a career or go in the work force, or so they said.
Working women were paid much less than men and were still regarded as meek and inferior beings. Also, a common stereotype about women was that

Analysis Of The Cartoon ' I See Characters Like Uncle Sam '
In the cartoon, I see characters like Uncle Sam, the recently acquired territories of the Philippines, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. Next, I see other
states and territories that were acquired earlier like California, Texas, Mexico, Arizona, and Alaska. Lastly, I see African American, Native American,
and China.
The symbols and actions that the artist employs in the political cartoon is the racist exaggeration. First, the classroom symbolizes reform for new
territories to be more civilized and self–govern themselves based on the U.S. government standards. Second, Uncle Sam (i.e. the U.S. government) the
schoolmaster leaning forward behind his desk with a pointer (rod) lecturing to new territories that "you've got to learn these lessons ... Show more

Seventh, symbolism a plaque above the door states "The Confederate
States refused their consent to be governed, but the union was preserved without their consent." Eighth symbolism is the Native American child
wearing his tribal feathers on his head as well as a blanket wrapped around his shoulders trying to read an "ABC" book upside down by the door.
Ninth symbolism is the Chinese child wearing native clothing holding a book walking towards the classroom. Tenth final symbolism is theAfrican
American child wearing well–dressed clothes with a goofy look on his face washing a window behind Uncle Sam.
The cartoon raises issues of dominance, racist bias, and paternalism. These issues were used to legitimize the rise in imperialism during this political
cartoon. First issues were dominance because of influence over the states and territories (i.e. California, Texas, Mexico, Arizona and Alaska) that the
U.S. has had for a while now are labeled "the modeled students" that eventually became civilized. The second issue was racist bias because of "the
model students" are portrayed as white, perpetuating the idea that White–Americans superiority was more civilized and governed better. However,
dark–skinned people have portrayed two different ways. For example, African Americans and Native Americans were portrayed stupid because one had

Uncle Sam Propaganda
The previous section defined propaganda as an organized attempt by an organization in power to convince a socially significant group of a certain
idea. This idea should be either partially false, ambiguous or "epistemically defective" in order to be qualified as propaganda. The goal of propaganda
message, as follows, is to achieve a desired reaction from the audience and, therefore, to support the propagandist's policies.
Origins of propaganda analysis Some scholars claim that propaganda is virtually embedded in the common people's minds and everyday lives. For
instance, Clyde Miller, who was as one of the founding members of the Institute for Propaganda Analysis (IPA) in 1937 (Miller, 1941, p. 657) believed
that everyone, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the propaganda message transfers the positive image of one object to another. Patriotic cartoon figure Uncle Sam is perhaps a good
example of this techniques. Uncle Sam is supposed to look after American people, therefore, everything he promotes should be accepted (Curti, 1940,
p. 472). Further, "testimonial" tool similarly quotes respected someone supporting a certain event, idea, policy, etc. that has to be presented in a
positive light. For instance, if the audience sees how many successful businesspeople or community leaders vote for a particular candidate in the
elections the tendency to vote for that particular candidate will rise (Miller & Edwards, 1936, pp. 76–77). Another device such as "plain folks" is
clearly inspired by propaganda tool which was frequently utilized by Fascist Germany. This technique indicates that someone (propagandist institution
or person) comes from the common people and, therefore, pursues the same goals. These goals supposedly benefit the people or the community this
individual or organization belongs to. This example is clearly explained in Propaganda Techniques of German

My Life Of My Grandma
Ever since I was small I had been close to my Grandma. Although she lived far away in
Mexico, we always went to go visit her during the summer. She was always sick and had a horrible cough. She kept going to many doctors and kept
talking the medicine the gaved her. We thought it was just a cold and it was going to go away with time but it didn't. It was during our next summer
visit that we noticed that her cough hadn't gone away that we decided to take her to a specialized doctor in the City of Mexico. What we were told after
a the check up was shocking.
My beloved Grandma had cancer in her left lung and was spreading.
I glanced at my dad and saw pain in his eyes, he was devastated. I went over to hug him and murmured, "Todo va a estar bien mi abuelita es fuerte."
everything is going to be fine my grandma is strong. That night I tried getting some sleep but I couldn't. The thought of losing my grandma made me
want to cry. I heard my mom comfort my dad from the other room. "Trata de dormir maГ±ana hablaremos sobre esto," try getting some sleep
tomorrow we'll talk. It was about
1:00 a.m that my eyes finally closed. In the morning I woke up got ready and saw that a few of my uncles had come over, to discuss my Grandma's
sickness. I could hear them say "Le diremos?" should we tell her one of my uncles asked "No creo que debamos, si le dicemos se va a poner mas mala
de lo que ya esta," I don't think we should she might get scared and it might affect her health even more.

Uncle Sam Coming To America
America always represents opportunity and freedom. Many people come here from different countries to look for works in order to achieve their
dream or improve their financial condition. Nowadays, many young people come to America for receiving better education and career. People enjoy
the multi–cultural environment and are willing to accept and learn different cultures. However, some social issues caused by cultural and racial
difference still can be found in this modern society, which can trace back from theimmigration movement in 1880s. The immigration culture began to

A Year I Had An Exciting Summer
This year I had an exciting summer. I did many fun and exciting things, but my best memory was when I went to vacation to New Mexico. I went for
about 2 weeks and had a great time. We've gone 2 years in a row now and hope to go back next year. My family and I went to go visit my dad's side of
the family. The main reason we went was for my cousin Jasmine's Quinceanera (which is the celebration of a teenage girl turning 15 in the Hispanic
culture).
This year almost my whole family that lives in Indiana and my other relatives from Ohio also went. Last year it was only my family so that's why
this year was better. The best thing about the trip was the car ride. Since more family went this time we got to ride with whoever we wanted. I rode in
my aunt's car with her, my cousin Kim who is my age, my cousin Alisen who is younger than us, and my twin sister Breanna. We took 4 cars since
4 families went, and we were all following each other it took about 18 hours to get there. We left on a Thursday at around 7 pm and got there Friday
at around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. The road trip was fun, because we jammed out to our favorite hits, we stopped to eat and get snack many times, and
we just talked and laughed and had a great time and made great memories it was a fun road trip.
So once we got to New Mexico we went straight to my aunt's house (the same house we stayed last year we came) as soon as we got off we got
attacked by all of our cousins. After that we all got ready

Uncle Sams Thanksgiving Dinner Analysis
In "Uncle Sam's Thanksgiving Dinner" and "America The Land of Opportunity", both cartoons show different aspects of immigration. America was
founded by immigrants. Our brave and heroic founding fathers set out to create a new nation. The founding fathers wanted to get away from the
burdens in England and establish a new colony unlike any around. This nation would be free of unjust rule and any tyranny. They wanted citizens of
the country to have rights that would never be taken away. We all came from Immigrants at some point in time. People left where they lived due to
hardships and wanted best for their families. If Immigration didn't exist, America wouldn't exist. The first cartoon is titled, "Uncle Sam's Thanksgiving
Dinner". This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This cartoon paved the way towards a greater tomorrow. In the second cartoon, it shows two immigrants paused in front of a huge wall. This cartoon
is more serious. A sign above them reads "America, the land of opportunity, prosperity, freedom". The top of the wall is lined with razor
–sharp barbed
wire. The immigrants are immediately greeted by a voice behind a reinforced door. The guard peering through says, "Sorry...we've filled our immigrant
quota. Try next year". Instead of welcoming immigrants, we're turning them away. On the other side of the wall, an American Flag can be seen. The
American Flag is a symbol of peace and opportunity, yet we're not extending that to many immigrants. The United States has changed its ways
drastically from when it was founded. It takes too long to become an American citizen, five years should be brought down significantly. Immigrants
make up the United States, they work hard to earn a living each day. Just like the sign, America is known as the land of opportunity. The wall shown in
this cartoon shows just one of the many blockades America has. The immigrant quota isn't giving immigrants many opportunities. We discriminate
against those who are here for a better life. They'll do anything they can to escape the hardships of the country that they're coming from. These
immigrants are forced to become "Americanized". Americans want immigrants to know English, value "American"

Narrative Essay About The First Day Of School
"Cheers!" Uncle Ming cheered.
The drinking has started. Dinner became a slur of red faces and big laughter. Unlike Uncle Ming who is dancing, I'm looking glumly out the window.
"What's wrong Yan? This celebration is for you! Smile, you're an American girl now!", Aunt May said.
"No, I'm not. I just arrived here", I denied. "I could never become an American girl."
"Don't worry. I'll teach you everything I know".
The first day of school goes by very slow, in contrast to my racing heart. During recess, a pale, freckled–faced girl approaches me.
"Hiya! My name's Maggie. Wanna play?" she says.
"S–sure", I replied, words rolling out like tumbleweed.
We soon became explorers of the garden, princesses of Sparkleland, and slayer of the invisible dragon. I no longer felt anxiety.
Lunch rolls by, and I'm relieved. All that jumping made me hungry. Everyone reveals their delicious meals, from pizza to chicken nuggets. So I
decided to do the same.
Smiling big, my little hands hold out the stinky tofu rice meal for approval from my peers. Their wrinkled noses and narrowed eyes however, tell me
they don't like it as much as I do. I realize that I became what I feared most : the weird kid who didn't belong.
Walking home, I keep my shoulders low, as if a giant boulder was laid on my back. Feeling more frustrated than sad, I let it out the only way I know :
with words.
"How come all the kids get cool lunches and I don't?" I asked.
"What do you mean, Yan? You've always likedstinky tofu

Worst Day Of My Life
"Life can give you a surprise even though you don't want it" was a quote that reminded me of my petty little self on my 10th birthday. We were
visiting the striking city of Miami, Florida.
The day starting at 9:45 ready for the best day of my life not knowing the challenges ahead of my road to double digits. We were staying at an Airbnb 6
bedroom 5–bathroom house with my Uncles family. Looking out of my window at the beautiful beach put me in awe.
My Brother in the bed next to me mumbled "oh yay it's the worst day of the year." I didn't listen to him knowing that he was jealous that my birthday
was going to be at a paradise.
Excited for my day I ran out of my room to be flabbergasted by my family for my birthday. They all screamed from the top of their lungs
"SURPRISE!!!" It was as if they wanted to wake up everybody in the state Florida. I was shocked, but not as shocked as my brother. He literally
jumped off the bed of how alarmed he was.
He said to me "I saw a spider on my bed so I got off calmly?!?!" I agreed with him making him think that I believed in the big black spider on his arm
climbing up to bite his head off.
As my family dispersed into their rooms I galloped through the long hallway pushing my aunt to get to the bathroom of sorrows. I called it that
because It was decorated as if someone was color blind and decided to make the bathroom colorful but actually making it the emo bathroom of the
world. I went inside and started brushing my teeth while waiting for

Analysis Of Dear Uncle Sam
Dear Uncle Sam, written by Loretta Lynn is one of the various anti–war movement songs to come out during the Vietnam war. Music was a popular
way to protest the war during this era. Through lyrics and sounds all the artist were able to express what one felt for this tragic event. Released in
January 1966 Loretta Lynn speaks about a husband sent off to war, and the feelings of grief when the husband is killed. She was very indecisive of
speaking on the topic, but influenced by her husband she was able to share this beautiful country song. Listening to the song various times I have
been able to understand part of the grief that wife's, mothers and family members felt when being told there love one had passed away. When reading
the lyrics of Dear Uncle Sam, Loretta begins by telling us she is writing to Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam is a national personification of the American
government & the United States in general. It is the symbol that America uses to get men to enlist. When she says she is writing to him we can feel
how desperate she must have been if she is writing to a fictional person. Adding the music, we hear how the soft guitar and her raspy voice ties it
together, especially when she goes on to saying "Through tears with a trembling hand". It is as if her voice is cracking, which brings out feelings of
pain and unsettledness. Also we can infer that Loretta is crying with lots of feeling. "With a trembling hand", this means she is shaky which shows how
hurt and scared

A Rhetorical Analysis On Uncle Sam
This cartoon is displaying that the government makes promises that they often do not keep. It depicts the patriot receiving very little of what they had
ordered. This is a metaphor for the lies that the government feeds the public. This cartoon is using pathos in the form of patriotism, in that they want
America to be without the lies. The artist of this cartoon wishes to bringing this feeling out of people in order to have the people join up and realize
the truth, or their truth, about what is happening in our country. In this picture you see Uncle Sam calling out to the American public to join the Army.
His facial expressions are stern and determined, this is deliberate to make the viewer feel as though it is their duty to serve. The coloring and font of
the letters bring a sense of how commanding and important this message is. The exaggeration of "you" presents that he is talking directly to the
viewer, making the viewer feel the urgency in the cartoon. This is a form of pathos because of the patriotism and determination that you feel with the
language and imaging provided in the picture. Ethos is also present due to the fact that the character used, Uncle Sam, is an American figure head....

Compare And Contrast Home Burdens Of Uncle Sam
Imperialism began during the 1870's, it was a process in which states, companies, and people exercised their dominance over the rest of the world.
Some characteristics of imperialism are: a system of dominance rather than exchange, the investment of wealth brought in alternated the whole
infrastructure, lastly it is based on treating other class divisions poorly just to benefit from their work. Imperialism came into power through the
disproportionate European power, the unparalleled domestic support, the non–western power vacuum, and lastly due to divide and conquer tactics in
which local leaders would support the imperialist dominating.
Throughout the four different readings by Hobson, Comfort, Ferry, and Kipling each authors' view differed on imperialism. In Hobson's text,
"Imperialism: A Study", he showed his opposition to imperialism because he believed imperialism did not represent those living in the imperialized
countries, but more so it only benefitted the upper–class elites who are just interested for their own monetary benefits. Within Comfort's text, "Home
Burdens of Uncle Sam", she shows her opposition to imperialism as she questions the U.S. as to why they are interfering with other countries' issues
when they themselves have so many issues such as the Native American's plight, the occupation of the New World, slavery, woman suffrage, and
foreign despotism on their own home ground. In Ferry's speech to the French National Assembly, he shows his approval towards

How To Write A Narrative Essay About Moving To Chicago
When we lived in Chicago, we settled in with my dad's side of the family. His older sister, Ana was married to my uncle Rigoberto or "Beto" for
short. They had 4 kids, Ana Elisa, Liliana, Araceli and the youngest, Rigoberto Jr.. We would always get together and have cookouts every other
weekend. My cousins, along with my brother and I, would play games and share jokes. As time went by my family had decided to move to Texas in
2004, we were leaving my aunt and her family. It was a sudden transition for both my brother and I. New school, new people, and a new
environment. We missed living in Chicago, including my parents. Since we had moved in south of Austin there was nothing but open fields and
agricultural roads, it took us about a year to get used to our new home. Over time we had gotten more acquainted with a few of our neighbors here.
My dad was trying to convince my aunt Ana to move down here with us because of the peaceful and quiet environment; especially since it was closer
to travel to Mexico. Finally, after three years of detailed things about our new place through phone calls between my family and aunt, they decided to

Uncle Sam Research Paper
Cartoons have had a long and storied history. When people think of cartoons, they may think of comic books, political cartoons and Saturday morning's
when they were kids. But cartoons have been around in print and visual media for several hundred years.
Some of the earliest cartoons go back to the 18th Century Britain, where cartoons would appear satirizing famous people of the day. These early
political cartoons soon came to colonial America, and became an important part of the movement for independence. The early political cartoons in the
colonies poked fun at British rule and the laws of the day. The political cartoons in the newspapers of the day helped provide a central theme for the
growing revolutionary spirit.
From the start, cartoons have been a way to lampoon and poke fun at the establishment and government. However, over time cartoons moved from
newspapers to other formats. In 1841, Punch Magazine debuts featuring satirical articles and cartoons. The format that Punch utilized became the basis
of future satirical magazines such as Mad and Spy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most famous is Uncle Sam. In 1852, the likeness of Uncle Sam began to appear in a cartoon in a New Yorknewspaper. Soon, the image of

strife.
When the motion picture was invented in the early 1900's, one of the earliest uses of this new medium was the cartoon. Now famous cartoons could
be brought to action on the big screen. Patrons of movies were thrilled to see some of the cartoon shorts that would begin to appear. The cartoons of

such as Disney, Pixar and DreamWorks Studios have advanced the genre of animated cartoon movies to new

The Cleveland Browns And The Detroit Lions

  • 1. The Cleveland Browns And The Detroit Lions As my relatives arrived, I began to feel more alone. The conversation ran the usual course. The men talked about the Cleveland Browns or the Detroit Lions. The woman talked about their children or past marriages. I kept on the move between the two groups. My biggest fear was that I would start taking about the war or say something about the woodland spirits that my Aunt Claudia believed existed. I wanted to talk about her, but I knew very little about her life. She believed that it was her destiny to build a family industry. She believed if her people followed her, the industry would become a dynasty. My Aunt Colleen believed that I should complete her task; then, my Aunt Claudia could rest in peace. Both women felt I should quit my job. I should leave my city home and move into this house in the woodland area. They believed I needed only a bed, a desk, and a lamp. My salvation was to work in my uncle's workshop. Once I'd built enough fishing boats, their visions would come true. Then, my partner, a soul twin would arrive, and we'd fish like in the old days. Then, one of the city girls would marry me. I had to trust their visions like the apostles trusted Jesus when he saved them form the storm in the Sea of Galilee. To bring visions out into the open would end my family dinner before anyone had eaten. To bring visions into the open would convince everyone that I was crazy. I was crazy, but not because of any beliefs. I was crazy because of the war, and I had to leave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Descriptive Essay About My Family Beaten, broken down, ramshackle, and vandalized. This is what you see now, an insignificant piece of architecture. I see a home my family spent more than 60 years in. It became my sanctuary. My father's childhood home in San Luis Potosi, Mexico helped me embrace my Mexican culture because it was where I first tried authentic Mexican food, met my ethnic family, and saw so much change in my family's life. First, I remember the day I tried my aunt's Mexican style rice, and I instantly fell in love. I had never tasted something so delicious. A delicious blend of white rice with a tomato base. To this day, it remains my favorite food. Not to mention, I discovered the many drinks you can make out of fruits and plants. In particular, a drink popularly known as "Agua de Jamaica" was a gift sent from heaven. I was with my Aunt and Mother one night, and I noticed them making some sort of red liquid. I reluctantly asked "what is that?", my mother then replied with "agua de jamaica" or hibiscus tea in English. I had a taste and I was instantly hooked on it. Last, something that many of us have already heard of is flan. An open, spongy pastry, flan is one of the most well–known Mexican desserts. I first tried it when I was 10 years old and it was such an amazing treat made by my Aunt. I was able to try these authentic dishes in that house. Every Time I eat those foods again, it takes me back to what that house used to be. Second, in that same home where my father grew up, I was able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Uncle Sam Propaganda One can see the use of recurring propaganda in today's time. The first poster of Uncle Sam, named "I Want You for the U.S Army" rose during 1917 as the original artist, James Montgomery Flagg created this poster to encourage recruitment in the United States Army at the advent of World War I. "I Want You for the U.S Army" poster was extremely popular as it had over four million copies of it printed and displayed throughout theUnited States. Flagg created the image to symbolize America and America's demand for young recruits for the war effort. The representation of the colors of the American flag and "Uncle Sam," a fictional man with a crisp stoic expression, as the main focal point revealed the type of features Flagg incorporated to explain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The context of the propaganda piece is to spark interest in enlisting with the United States army. However, Flagg creates Uncle Sam in a unique way to not only address the clustered population of young soldiers but to directly encode the importance of the individual. The poster has the word "YOU" in bolded and slightly bigger letters. When one looks at the parts of the poster that are unique, one might look at the word "YOU" and straight towards the index finger pointed at the individual. This use of linear perspective that Flagg creates is fundamental to the message of the poster. If one were to draw lines from any part of the poster, it would lead to the index finger, revealing the important placement of the finger in the middle of the poster. Additionally, the use of lithographs, or authorized copy of an original work, was ubiquitous in the United States as higher quality copy images of Uncle Sam were created consistently at a high rate. This recurring image that was engraved in the minds of Americans exposed to newspapers and media outlets can identify Flagg's poster as a symbol of wartime and demand for soldiers. Flagg's goal of building this symbolic poster of Uncle Sam revealed a man with great fairness, reliability, and honesty; this man was devoted to his country and is now allowing young Americans to carry out his legacy ... • 4. Analysis Of The Poem ' Adrienne Rich Women had little resources to escape an unhappy or abusive marriage during the nineteen fifties. Most just learned to deal with it behind their closed doors in silence. During this time the divorce rate, according to an article published in 1973 by the "National Center for Health Statistics", was at twenty–five percent. (Plateris). Most women did not have the luxury of getting one due to the fact that most husbands of that time had control of the household finances, not to mention that it was a costly venture. Some marriages struggled with spousal abuse as well; be it emotional or physical yet domestic violence at this time was something that people really did not talk about, nor were there the resources for victims that we have today. In this haunting poem, Adrienne Rich uses symbolism to paint a picture of a scared, and lonely woman as she creates this tapestry of Tigers being hunted, in a colorful landscape, while she is pondering her relationship between her and her spouse. The author starts the poem in a quiet manner with the character Aunt Jennifer sitting peaceably weaving a tapestry of majestic Tigers being hunted. With bright colors in the first stanza," Bright topaz denizens of a world of green," (line 2) Topaz is a gem that has a wide color range that includes brown, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple but the definition of it states that a true Topaz is colorless. • 5. Uncle Sam, A Nickname Gave By The U.s. Government Uncle Sam, a nickname gave by the U.S. government. Many people say this was first used during the war of 1812. Samuel Wilson or many people may so "Uncle Sam", was the man behind this name that many American people look up to. This name was a name of brave, hardworking and courage. Samuel Wilson was born September 13, 1766 in Menotomy Massachusetts. Wilson was the seventh of thirteen kids. Wilson grows up on a farm close to Mason New Hampshire, also the place he moved when he was about fourteen years of age. • 6. My Dad When I woke up the morning of June 11th, 2008, I thought it was going to be a normal day, but, I was wrong. Growing up, my mom told my sisters and I about my Uncle. How he was hot tempered and did things that were crazy when he didn 't get his way. My mom and his relationship has always been tense. From what I 've seen, and from what she has told me. When she got shot by him that day, it proved to me that she was right. It was just a normal day. My mother sister, and I, driving around. Myuncle had called and told us how he had gotten a new pit bull puppy, and he invited us over to come see it. We arrive, and this puppy is the cutest pup I 've ever seen. She was brindle with blue eyes. My mom wanted to talk to my uncle about us keeping her. While lying on the couch playing with the puppy, I look over and see my mom, sister, aunt and uncle sitting on the other couch. We were laughing, smiling, telling jokes. You wouldn 't think a bad thing would ever happen in the room. I know my mother and uncles' relationship, an argument was bound to spark over something simple. They began their routine of arguing back and forth. Meanwhile, from what I could understand, they were fighting about the pup. Now, I know that might sound outrageous but, the arguing continues. The argument ended and my uncle walks off to the back room with a creepy smile on his face. In my mind I 'm thinking, "Ok everything is fine, they just had a moment." • 7. Political Propaganda In Uncle Sam Ruled Out By John Cole Propaganda Politicians do everything in their power to keep their reputation positive. This can often be ruined by cartoons. Many artists will make cartoons to poke fun at or even ridicule public officials. This is called propaganda, or political cartoons. Propaganda has been very common throughout United States History. With social media, the public has immediate access to memes, posts, or even gifs (animated photos) about political issues happening in the nation. In addition to this, political cartoons and propaganda continue to be used in today's society. "Uncle Sam Ruled Out" by Art Young and "Trump's Wall BW" by John Cole are very similar types of political propaganda. These cartoons use aspects including their choice of subject, the use of the fear tactic, and size to represent how political issues are being addressed by two well–known, powerful men. ... • 8. James Montgomery Flagg There are many pieces in modern design that hold my interest. One of the most interesting pieces of art in modern design is James Montgomery Flagg's I Want You for U.S. Army poster (James Montgomery Flagg. I Want You for the U.S. Army, Lithograph, 1917. Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, D.C.). While Flagg's piece aims to encourage people to take some action according to the current war, it is also very easily understood by the text that is intertwined. Much like the I Want You for U.S. poster, Julius Klinger's 8th War Bond poster (Julius Klinger. Kriegsanleihe, Lithograph. Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, D.C. ) is directed towards the same intent through a different approach. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Flagg's poster shows his intent through the text, Klinger's poster is much less straightforward and could be hard to understand if the viewer was not from the same country or culture as Klinger. Unlike Flagg's traditional color scheme in his poster, Klinger uses complementary colors to enhance the contrast between the red figure eight and the green snakelike figure in the center of the poster. Klinger's poster also does not rely on its colors to represent its purpose. Instead of relying on the color scheme, Klinger's poster relies on its figure such as the snake and the number to be the main focus of his piece. The arrows going through the snake give the idea that revenge or anger is toward someone. The top part of the 8 wrapped around the head of the snake also gives the idea of someone being trapped or a very concerning situation. Unlike Flagg's poster, Klinger's poster seems to take up much more space but does not have a lot of detail or other figures placed in the background. Klinger's poster is much more simplistic in the tone of the piece. There is very little, if any, value changes that show the rigidness and seriousness compared to Flagg's piece. Although Klinger relies on its two dimensional form, the items such as the arrows and the figure eight rely on each other in combination as a whole to depict the message. Much like Flagg's work, the message or context could be lost if the viewer did not speak the same language or was not from the same country. Klinger's piece captures both simplicity with its two dimensional style and complexity with its unclear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Research Paper On Uncle Sam He was born on April 27, 1822, in Point Pleasant, Ohio. His ancestors were of English and Scottish heritage. He was not given a name for a month after his birth because his mother considered several names to call him. Later he was named after his maternal grandfather, but the initials of his name embarrassed him. When he entered West Point his name was mistakenly enrolled. He did not change his name since he liked the initials. He was called "Sam, Uncle Sam" by his friends. At an early age, he was observed to have incredible talents for handling horses. He drove fast horses. He helped his parents by hauling wood, clearing, and plowing the fields. He avoided working in his father's tannery, for the blood–caked hides made him sick. He was a happy and honest child. He was never punished at home either by scolding or by the rod. He stood 5 feet and 7 inches tall. He had wavy brown hair, soft blue eyes and amused himself with a full beard and mustache. He had unusually small feet and hands and had long fingers. He could not tolerate the sight of animal blood so he wanted that his meat should be cooked well. He never ate fowls like chicken. He suffered from migraine headaches throughout his life. • 10. Descriptive Narrative Essay Looking out into the beautiful blue sky while sitting in an enormous pearl white charter boat along with the peaceful sound of the waves crashing up against the side of the boat.Along with simple memories such as riding on a boat in the deep sea and deep sea fishing serves as symbols of the most important memories of my childhood. My family and I were always at the beach because my uncle at one point in time ran his own fishing charter business. He would always take my siblings and I out on a boat ride. Everytime we would get to a certain point in the nasty what is supposed to be blue but is a dark brown color of the ocean we would always know that we then could go stand at the front of the boat. Depending on how big the waves were let us know if we even wanted to go up there or not. When getting up there we would hold on to a handrail along with an anchor cleat. We would then wait until a big wave came and right as soon as the front of the boat would start to go down we would jump up in the refreshing ocean breeze. That then making us feel as if we were on a mini roller coaster. One time my brother wasn't holding on tight enough and he jumped up and when he did his hands slipped and he flew backwards. "I think I'm going to die!!" yelled Tyler as he landed in the livewell for the largerfish. Later on I was the only one up there and as the waves started getting bigger and bigger it made the cooler with our snacks in it slid up right up behind me. You can probably guess ... • 11. Reflection Paper On Being A Nurse Being a nurse takes its toll on emotions and really puts through tough times with dying patients or patients that are just plain out rude. And at first, I thought that being emotionally involved with the patient was not allowed because it made it harder to do your job. I was wrong being emotionally involved makes you a better nurse and makes it seem like you are an actual person and not a mechanical being taking care of patients. We went to say goodbye. We went there for comfort from our family. We went there to give comfort before the end. Arriving in Wyoming at around eleven we wanted to see my aunt Ritti before she died. Getting to the hospital I was calm and collected but as soon as I walked into the room my emotions were all scrambled. Her head tilted back and her mouth was wide open so she could breathe, she was skinnier, pale, and there were bags under her eyes. She was lying there motionless, the only thing that she could move were her eyes. I only knew one way to handle a situation dealing with death, cry. After saying hello to my aunt Ritti I said hello to my aunts Tuesday and Rhonda, uncles Daryl and David, and my mother's parents. We stayed in the hospital talking and catching up and including my aunt in the conversation. • 12. Political Cartoon Analyzing Uncle Sam Trying to decide what to order when going out to eat can sometimes be challenging. I chose to analyze the political cartoon featuring Uncle Sam trying to decide on what he would like to eat first. It represents what country he wants to take over first, and he seems pretty pleased with himself. The waiter, portraying President Mckinley, appeals to be angry at Uncle Sam because he believes that it is unnecessary to be greedy and want all these foreign countries. He also doesn't want to start any wars. I believe that this cartoon correctly depicts America in the early 1900. The US could take whatever they wanted. It was just a matter of what to take first. People think that advancing technology where all we are going to be is the robots employee and not get paid for it because they want to give a fixed income of $10,000 from Uncle Sam. Yeah, pretty crazy, right? If we had advanced technology more than we already do then why aren't we all just robots? In my opinion I think that advancing technology to the point where people don't have to work is a problem. Don't get me wrong technology can do so many good things and it could help make some work easier but I do not think that we should advance technology where you don't even have to work. • 14. Uncle Sam Nickname On this day in 1813, the United States gets its nickname, Uncle Sam. The name is linked to Samuel Wilson, a meat packer from Troy, New York, who supplied barrels of beef to the United States Army during the War of 1812.Wilson (1766–1854) stamped the barrels with "U.S." for United States, but soldiers began referring to the grub as "Uncle Sam's." The local newspaper picked up on the story and Uncle Sam eventually gained widespread acceptance as the nickname for the U.S. federal government. In the late 1860s and 1870s, political cartoonist Thomas Nast (1840–1902) began popularizing the image of Uncle Sam. Nast continued to evolve the image, eventually giving Sam the white beard and stars–and–stripes suit that are associated with the character ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Uncle Sam Goddamn Analysis "Uncle Sam Goddamn" is a song written by Brother Ali in 2007 that conveys the United States government as harsh and cruel. Brother Ali writes lyrics in a very personal and inspiring way. Ali wrote this song in anger and in protest of the United States due to its controversial history and he writes with anger and passion. Ali calls out the United States Government and he wants change. Ali uses phrases to show Americas flaws and controversial history. He is disappointed in the way that America has become what it is today. Brother Ali shows his disappointment of America's controversial past by using vigorous language and his concern for what America has become. In the opening chorus, Ali starts out by saying "welcome to the United Snakes, Land of the thief home of the slave imperial guard where the dollar is sacred and proud" (Brother Ali [Chorus]). Instead of saying United States, he says United Snakes to describe how shady America is. He uses the animal snakes because they slither around and are shady. Ali uses play on words to emphasize his anger toward America. There are several shady activities that go on behind the scenes with the American Government. Instead of using the phrase, "Land of the free, home of the brave," Ali says "land of the thief, home of the slave." The foundation of America was made by killing Native Americans. We aren't very open with each other, never learned to express our feelings, but we were fine with that. All of us, including myself, thought there was no need to pour our feelings out to each other. It was a sign of weakness, especially in a family where everyone's sons and daughters had to be picture perfect. I was fine with that. Of course, sometimes it hurt, knowing that my mental shortcomings had to be kept to myself for the sake of the family image. But overtime I got used to it. The silence we kept ourselves in eventually became calming to me. Until that very silence killed someone. I remember the day it happened. It was raining and my house was oddly quiet. There was no sound coming from downstairs and I assumed everyone was still asleep. But, it didn't make sense considering it was a Monday morning and it was 8:00 am. My parents would have been running around the house leaving for work by now. Maybe they haven't woken up yet, I thought. I got out of bed, put on the black slippers I always leave on the floor, and walked towards my parent's room. They weren't there. The bedsheets were strewn across the floor and my little brother was still in his crib. My parents would normally put him on the bed, then wake me up so I could go sleep next to him. I knew something was out of place. Our morning routine for the summer never once changed. I ran out of my parent's room and knocked on my brother's door. Maybe he knew what was happening. After a few seconds of knocking, I swung the door open and looked inside. His bed was the same as my parents, the sheets strewn across the floor as if he got out in a hurry. I began to panic and ran downstairs to grab the phone. I needed to call someone and find out what was happening as soon as possible. Halfway down the stairs, I come to a stop. I saw my brother and dad, seated on the couch on opposite ends with their face in their hands. Slowly, I walked the rest of the way down, like a predator studying its prey. World War II had just ended a few years ago, marriage and birth rates dramatically increased, and the divorce rate was declining. It was nicknamed the baby boom. The ideal family of the 1950's was the dad was the head of the household, he brought the paycheck, the mom did the cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children and the kids were well–behaved and courteous. In the 1950s the age for marrying had decreased from 24 for men to 22 and 21 for women to 20. This was due mainly to the war which caused uncertainty in young couple's lives. Many women took wartime jobs and they got to experience a sense of freedom they had never known before, when the war was over they were pressured to return back to their domestic roles. Eventually being someone's bride and wife was once again the goal of most women but one–third of women still made up the work force. The 1950s is viewed as a time of conformity for both men and women. Women were much pressured to keep the family entity strong and together. The way to do this best was by remaining at home to take care of her husband and children, and refusing to pursue a career or go in the work force, or so they said. Working women were paid much less than men and were still regarded as meek and inferior beings. Also, a common stereotype about women was that they went to college to get a "Mrs. (pronounced M.R.S.) degree, meaning a husband" (PBS.Org). Next, I see other states and territories that were acquired earlier like California, Texas, Mexico, Arizona, and Alaska. Lastly, I see African American, Native American, and China. The symbols and actions that the artist employs in the political cartoon is the racist exaggeration. First, the classroom symbolizes reform for new territories to be more civilized and self–govern themselves based on the U.S. government standards. Second, Uncle Sam (i.e. the U.S. government) the schoolmaster leaning forward behind his desk with a pointer (rod) lecturing to new territories that "you've got to learn these lessons ... Ninth symbolism is the Chinese child wearing native clothing holding a book walking towards the classroom. Tenth final symbolism is theAfrican American child wearing well–dressed clothes with a goofy look on his face washing a window behind Uncle Sam. The cartoon raises issues of dominance, racist bias, and paternalism. These issues were used to legitimize the rise in imperialism during this political cartoon. First issues were dominance because of influence over the states and territories (i.e. California, Texas, Mexico, Arizona and Alaska) that the U.S. has had for a while now are labeled "the modeled students" that eventually became civilized. • 23. Uncle Sam Propaganda The previous section defined propaganda as an organized attempt by an organization in power to convince a socially significant group of a certain idea. This idea should be either partially false, ambiguous or "epistemically defective" in order to be qualified as propaganda. The goal of propaganda message, as follows, is to achieve a desired reaction from the audience and, therefore, to support the propagandist's policies. Origins of propaganda analysis Some scholars claim that propaganda is virtually embedded in the common people's minds and everyday lives. For instance, Clyde Miller, who was as one of the founding members of the Institute for Propaganda Analysis (IPA) in 1937 (Miller, 1941, p. 657) believed that everyone, ... Patriotic cartoon figure Uncle Sam is perhaps a good example of this techniques. Uncle Sam is supposed to look after American people, therefore, everything he promotes should be accepted (Curti, 1940, p. 472). Further, "testimonial" tool similarly quotes respected someone supporting a certain event, idea, policy, etc. that has to be presented in a positive light. For instance, if the audience sees how many successful businesspeople or community leaders vote for a particular candidate in the elections the tendency to vote for that particular candidate will rise (Miller & Edwards, 1936, pp. 76–77). Another device such as "plain folks" is clearly inspired by propaganda tool which was frequently utilized by Fascist Germany. This technique indicates that someone (propagandist institution or person) comes from the common people and, therefore, pursues the same goals. I went for about 2 weeks and had a great time. We've gone 2 years in a row now and hope to go back next year. My family and I went to go visit my dad's side of the family. The main reason we went was for my cousin Jasmine's Quinceanera (which is the celebration of a teenage girl turning 15 in the Hispanic culture). This year almost my whole family that lives in Indiana and my other relatives from Ohio also went. Last year it was only my family so that's why this year was better. The best thing about the trip was the car ride. Since more family went this time we got to ride with whoever we wanted. I rode in my aunt's car with her, my cousin Kim who is my age, my cousin Alisen who is younger than us, and my twin sister Breanna. We took 4 cars since 4 families went, and we were all following each other it took about 18 hours to get there. We left on a Thursday at around 7 pm and got there Friday at around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. The road trip was fun, because we jammed out to our favorite hits, we stopped to eat and get snack many times, and we just talked and laughed and had a great time and made great memories it was a fun road trip. Music was a popular way to protest the war during this era. Through lyrics and sounds all the artist were able to express what one felt for this tragic event. Released in January 1966 Loretta Lynn speaks about a husband sent off to war, and the feelings of grief when the husband is killed. She was very indecisive of speaking on the topic, but influenced by her husband she was able to share this beautiful country song. Listening to the song various times I have been able to understand part of the grief that wife's, mothers and family members felt when being told there love one had passed away. When reading the lyrics of Dear Uncle Sam, Loretta begins by telling us she is writing to Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam is a national personification of the American government & the United States in general. It is the symbol that America uses to get men to enlist. When she says she is writing to him we can feel how desperate she must have been if she is writing to a fictional person. Adding the music, we hear how the soft guitar and her raspy voice ties it together, especially when she goes on to saying "Through tears with a trembling hand". It is as if her voice is cracking, which brings out feelings of pain and unsettledness. Also we can infer that Loretta is crying with lots of feeling. "With a trembling hand", this means she is shaky which shows how hurt and scared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Home Burdens Of Uncle Sam Imperialism began during the 1870's, it was a process in which states, companies, and people exercised their dominance over the rest of the world. Throughout the four different readings by Hobson, Comfort, Ferry, and Kipling each authors' view differed on imperialism. In Hobson's text, "Imperialism: A Study", he showed his opposition to imperialism because he believed imperialism did not represent those living in the imperialized countries, but more so it only benefitted the upper–class elites who are just interested for their own monetary benefits.
