1. In what way does Your media
product use, develop, or
challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?
2. Relating to real music magazines
On the right, you can see the photo I took throughout
my photoshoot and used on my front cover, As you
can
see, I tried to get a professional looking pose of my
cover star which I took outside so I could edit the
nackground out.
Overall I feel as though the Picture looked good and
the
size of the picture was good, If I had to go back I
would
take the picture a little closer and perhaps have the
cover star on a different angle to show more of the
face
however that would conflict with having the same
pose/
look as the one on the real magazine.
3. Relating to real music magazines (2)
On the right you can see my final front
cover compared to an actual mixmag
magazine, you should be able to notice
some similarities which I will list below
• Colour scheme on everything despite
body text due to the fact I had to
contrast the text to the background
• Placement of objects and text, tried
to copy the magazine layout in order
to make it look more professional
• The backgroumd. Despite different
colours, I went for the same kind of
blurred grundge effect which I think
worked out, it provides a good
chance to put a glow around my
cover star which is on the mixmag
despite being hard to see.
4. Relating to real music magazines (3)
As you can see above, The picture on the double page spread of Mixmag there is a DJ in action at an event, I tried
to replicate this as best I could with the limited resources as DJ equipment is very expensive and I couldn’t get access
to any DJ events, nonetheless, in my DPS, I’ve tried to get a good looking DJ pose with the cover star working some
DJ equipment with Studio headphones on to try and replicate some sort of DJ pose throughout my magazine.
5. Relating to real music magazines (4)
On the right, you can see the contents page I created and the contents page
from a real music magazine, I tried copying some form of layout from the
magazine on the left however i didn’t keep the background black as I
wanted to keep a dark colour scheme which wasn’t just one solid colour.
Nonetheless as you can see at the top, I’ve kept the ‘contents’ headline and
the masthead on my contents page in the same location as the mixmag
magazine and also tried to use a font similar to the one in the magazine,
also on my content page I’ve kept the main picture in the same place and
provided the page number of the article, similar to the mixmag. Also on the
mixmag, the stories on the left hand side of the picture dropping down i
have tried ti imitate that in my magazine however provided more
information upon the articles and not provided as many articles. Finally, on
the bottom right hand of my contents page, I have only provided a picture
of one of my stars whereas the mixmag features a CD cover and information
regarding this CD, I think this looks better than my contents page as my
contents page now has a lot of empty space compared to the mixmag.
6. Relating to real music
magazines (5)
Despite the fact on the last slide I mentioned that I
didn’t copy the way in which the mixmag had the
CD with information regarding it, I looked at
another Mixmag issue’s contnets page and
discovered a picture of band/ group of artists to
which I incorporated into my music magazine, I did
this as it shows I have looked into a number of
magazines for research and try to use new Ideas
rather than just copy one.
