1. Key words and terminology
Strapline- Slogan or quote describing the magazine or the principal of the magazine
Masthead- magazine title or name
Pug- Bit of the cover not containing information or information of any importance (blank spots,
barcodes etc.)
Drop-cap- When the first letter of the article is highlighted above the rest, mainly for presentational
purposes
In – house- Trademarks of the magazine e.g. colour scheme = house colours
Slug- In house logo for this particular section e.g. reviews have a diff. slug to interviews
End marker – fancy/ elaborate full stop at the end of an article
Pull quotes- enlarged quotes.
Date line – line telling you the date the magazine was issued.
Model credits – To tell you who the model is in the cover photo.
Rule of thirds – use of the 3x3 grid for presentation and to avoid the ‘cluttered’ look.
